Daily Surf Report - 5/31/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Sunny skies with light valley fog on the drive out and a morning temp of 54F.  No wind and a high pressure system is over the area through the weekend.  Inland temps expected into the 90s.  Come out to the beach to cool off and take a dip.

No more S swell and just localized NW windswell in the water.  Next real swell of significance isn't due until next week.  It looks legit with periods out to 22s and wave heights of 4' but not expected to reach CA until the 5th or 6th.  Stay tuned!

Better morning tides but still heading to low.  Lots of beach to walk on but not too many exposed rocks - yet.  Early or late will yield best potential results as mid-day tide is too low.  Micro waves at best but a beautiful day here in Bolinas.

CHANNEL:   Lefts working in the knee high size both at the Groin and in the Channel.  Not too much going on here but just enough to get a longboard moving.  Possibly something going on over at Seadrift where the rights may be working in the knee high range as well.

PATCH: Bordering on FLAT with the occasional knee high log-able right working midway and outside.  Great for kayaks and touring SUPs.  Not so much for wave riding equipment today.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Lots of NEW and USED boards are in the racks so come check it out. Full wetsuits, 3 and 5mm booties, hoods and gloves are in stock as well. If you are in need of a new suit or board now is a great time to shop. We have all the gear for your cold water surfing needs.

Daily Surf Report - 5/30/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Sunny skies with a morning temp of 54F.  A bit breezy but from the NW so good direction.  Seems a bit calmer down at the beach.  Diminishing S swell and low water levels greet us this morning.  Lots of beach exposed for that long walk with your sweetheart.  More water will equal more waves but that will take some time. Early-early is best or afternoon / evening for best tides.

CHANNEL:   Sand and lots of it.  Calf cramping lefts off the Groin.  Knee knocking lefts in the Channel.  Take your pick and bring the biggest board you have.

PATCH: Rocks and lots of them.  Thigh tingling rights way, way outside.  Lots of paddling potential and bring your longest log.

Daily Surf Report - 5/29/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

The SUN is now out having replaced the overcast and grey skies.  No wind and temp clocking in at 58F.  No water with the negative low tides in the morning.    Lots of beach exposed if you are looking to take a long walk and treasure hunt the reef.  More water will equal more waves but that will take some time.  Take your time coming out and expect an afternoon or evening session.

CHANNEL:   Sand and lots of it.  Knee crunching lefts that are going un-ridden.

PATCH: Rocks and lots of them.  Thigh high waves way, way outside.  Lots of paddling potential but wave counts will remain low.

Daily Surf Report - 5/28/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Post holiday weekend.  Town has a bit of that hangover feel now that everyone has gone home, back to work and school.  Not too trashed or thrashed but used well and put away wet.

General moistness but already 59F with clearing skies, blue and sunshine!  Rained yesterday and overnight and is currently clear and calm.  No wind and also no water as the early morning negative low tides are NOW.  Everything is uncovered - ALL rocks and ALL sandbars.  Come check out what makes waves work at Bolinas.  While you are at it pick up and throw away a few pieces of trash as well.  Plenty of potential as the town is empty, weather is nice and there is still some swell in the water.

CHANNEL:   No tide.  No water.  No waves.  A few pieces of water here and there making an attempt but this places needs a few hours of incoming tide to get rolling.  Check it around noon and into the evening for best results.  Fishing conditions look good.

PATCH: Negative low tide, all rocks exposed.  Empty lineup.  A few marginal waves trying to work.  This place also needs a few hours of incoming tide to get water levels up and waves working.  Check back around noon and into the afternoon / evening.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/27/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

NOON UPDATE: Getting some light rain sprinkles. Wind does remain light and there are still waves in town.

Memorial Day Monday.  A good day to kiss mermaids and ride the El Nino.  Walk the sands with the crustaceans.  Find your way to Mariana on the waves of Bolinas.

Calm, cool and collected morning with light clouds giving way to blue skies.  Temp is 57F and it promises to be another nice day at the beach.  Another all-time negative low tide this morning with every rock and sandbar exposed for your viewing pleasure.  Explore the uncharted reefs and look for that fin you lost in the Patch 3 years ago.  Walk across the Channel to Seadrift and visit some friends.  There are still small waves to ride and more water will be a bonus.

CHANNEL:   Low tide / No tide but slowly filling in.  Still have set sandbars and the Groin left has great shape if not great size.  Going knee high + currently but will improve throughout the day.  Incoming tide push will get this place working as Mali-Bo rights and the Channel left just need more water.  Still a few waves in front of the boat ramp for the boogie board or hand plane.  Expect crowds later and more surf as well.  Best tides are later this morning, afternoon and evening. Hopefully the winds stays light.  3 people in the water trying to make it work.

PATCH: Negative low tide, all rocks exposed but still crowed with waves to ride.  SUPs and logs doing the dance with rights and lefts popping up.  Size runs to thigh high but it is surfable even with no water.  Grab something big and join the fun.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/26/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Overnight winds from the N where Highway 5 meets the 89 then goes S to the 44.  Winds from the E where Highway 80 joins the 50 then meets up with the 680.  Winds from the S where Highway 101 and 280 merge.  Has chilled down the water and ruffled the surface as well.  Currently calm and warm at 57F.  Sunny, blue skies - another nice Memorial Day weekend beach day.  Winds have been and will pick up later in the day into the evening but now looks good and rideable surf does remain in town.  Super low morning tide so bring the shovel and pail then pull out the log as the water returns.

CHANNEL:   Low tide / No tide but starting to fill in. Best tides are later this morning and hopefully the winds stays light.  2 people in the water. Everyone ABIDE.

PATCH: Negative low tide but the Patch is working.  Rights popping up and rideable in the thigh to almost waist high size.  This is the better spot right now and is currently supporting about 22 surfers and a few SUPs.  Tide has just turned around and the incoming tide will get things working better.  Try your luck here now and sample the Channel later.

Daily Surf Report - 5/25/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Memorial Day weekend and everyone is coming to the beach.  We do have nice weather and sunny skies will hold throughout the holiday.  Winds have been moderate to stiff in the afternoon and evenings and that has brought the water temp down to 49F.  Boots and gloves may be required depending on your tolerance level.  Morning temp is 51F and winds are nil to very light at the moment.  Still have surf that is hitting all through town and delivering a little bit for everyone today.  Spread out from the Patch to the Channel with bars in-between as well.  Expect crowds and mind your manners in and out of the water.

CHANNEL:   Pieces here and pieces there.  Occasionally a clean and lined up left off the Groin bar that will hold up and run to the beach.  Also, surf  and shore dumpers right out in front of the boat ramp with sectiony lefts to ride or body surf here as well.  Size is around thigh to waist high on the best waves in the Channel.  Still spread out but expect thick crowds and lots of yard sale action today. A very low negative tide is filling in and starting to cover up the rocks and sand.  Better tides late morning and throughout the day.

PATCH: Pop Up Peaks in the Patch this morning.  Incoming tide has the inside Snags working cleanly as it runs towards the beach.  Great for body surfing or boogie boards and a fish may work as well.  Outside and mid-way there are waves that go about waist high +/- and they are rideable on a big board or SUP.  Plenty of waves to ride this morning.  Logs work best as per usual.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/24/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Fabulous Friday with clear blue skies, no wind and morning temp of 53F.  Expecting another nice weather day with winds increasing in the afternoon. Ocean temp of 49F and chilled out due to recent winds.  Bring the booties and gloves if you need them.  A bit more surf today in that it is hitting a few different spots and there are plenty of waves for everyone.  Localized NW windswell and a small S swell providing fun waves to ride in town today.  Glassy and glistening in the sun.  A beautiful morning to be in Bolinas.

CHANNEL:   Clean and shapely left off the Groin bar that holds up for turns and runs.  Also, surf right out in front of the boat ramp with sectiony lefts to ride here as well.  Size is around thigh to almost waist high and it is spread out on the different bars with about 10 surfers up and riding.  The incoming tide hitting Mali-BO is worth a look as well as that wave is always fun.

PATCH: Push REPEAT from yesterday.  Peaks galore and popping up all over the Patch today.  Incoming tide has the inside Snags working cleanly as it runs towards the beach.  Mid-way and outside there are waves that go anywhere from waist high and a bit bigger.  Plenty of waves to ride this morning.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Chill air but sunny skies and no wind - yet.  Morning temp of 51F and warming.  Ocean temp of 49F and chilled out due to recent winds.  Bring the booties and gloves if you need them.  Still expecting afternoon winds to blow so jump in now for the best conditions.  Localized NW windswell and the remaining S swell still delivering fun waves to ride in town today.  Glassy and glistening in the sun.  A beautiful morning to be in Bolinas.

CHANNEL:   Clean and shapely left off the Groin bar that holds up for turns and runs.  Size is around thigh to almost waist but consistent and fun.  A few rights worth exploring at Seadrift and the incoming tide hitting Mali-BO is worth a look as well.  A crowd of 2 in the water getting it good.

PATCH: Peaks galore and popping up all over the Patch today.  Incoming tide has the inside Snags working cleanly as it runs towards the beach.  A few shore dumpers that require an early exit but fun stuff to ride.  Mid-way and outside there are waves that go anywhere from waist high and a bit bigger.  Plenty of waves to ride this morning.

Daily Surf Report - 5/22/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Chill air with already moderate winds.  Expecting to increase during the day.  Now a bit NW with sunny, blue skies and a morning temp of 50F.  Should remain clear but with slightly lower temps through the weekend.  South swell remains in play + N windswell that can combo up to improve surf conditions.  Mornings look like the best time especially if the wind increases.  Waves to ride in both town spots today.

CHANNEL: A touch smaller but still clean and hitting the Groin bar.  Size running up to waist high with a very smooth left for your riding pleasure.  Longboards and eggs will excel this morning.  Don't overlook the inside Mali-Bo rights as the incoming tide makes it work.  The sandbars are re-formed and look ready for summer.  About 5 in the water here.

PATCH: Plenty of smooth surf all over the region.  The rights mid-way and inside look to be the best call as they are breaking cleanly and have good shape and duration.  Size is waist high and above.  Outside there are waves - some break and some don't.  SUPs seem to have the advantage here so if you are surfing, sit inside and take off there.  Good size shore pound as well.  Nice for the handplane or boogie board.  Sandy bottom side only please.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/21/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

New pulse from the South kicking in and delivering today.  Sunny skies, a bit of NW wind and morning temp of 57F makes this a great day.  Take your best shot at both spots in town as waves are happening and tides are favorable for the day.

CHANNEL: Glistening and glassy left that is rideable and rippable today.  Plenty of face for turns and holds shape as it runs towards the beach.  On the Groin bar with size in the waist high + range.  Longboard, egg, fish or Simmons will work.  Nice shape and the bar is set.  Deeper Channel still has some waves but not working as consistently as insiders.  About 8 in the water here.

PATCH: Plenty of smooth surf all over the region.  Inside rights have some juice with shore-pound for the body surfers and rights that are smooth and fast.  Midways and outside has peaks popping up and delivering the goods in the waist high + size.  Decent group of about 15 are on it.  Bigger boards work best outside but something shorter will work inside.

Daily Surf Report - 5/20/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

SOUTH swell remains on this beautiful Monday morning.  Fantabulous day with blue skies, sunshine, just a touch of wind, the scent of island jasmine in the air and temp clocking in at 56F and rising.  Could be the day to call in sick and get some waves.  Both spots in town are worth checking out and the morning high tide is favorable.

CHANNEL: Channel is waist high this morning as the incoming tide has just peaked.  Rights just outside the Groin pole are workable into the Mali-BO region and can run all the way to the beach.  Outside, deeper left a bit cleaner but not as consistent today.  Still enough juice to get your board going down the line.  Pick your poison and board carefully and conditions will change with the tide today.  8 in the water right now.

PATCH: Thigh to waist high outside and on the northern end this morning.  Sets come in bunches then cool off for a while.  Plenty to ride and plenty of surfers on it.  Good pod of about 20+ enjoying the waves. Inside rights working with some shore pound and rideable waves going waist high or better.  Morning high tide helping conditions.

Daily Surf Report - 5/19/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

SOUTH swell is sure swell for Bolinas and I've got some radical prophesies for you. There is surf in town and its a beautiful morning. The sun is shining and the weather is sweet, with almost non existent wind and surf in the waist to chest high range. Don't tell anyone but any board can be brought out today. Air temp is at 54 and the water is warming up. Skip work, skip breakfast and skip down into the beautiful sea.

CHANNEL: Channel is at belly button piercing height with some nipple piercing sets rolling through. Closes out fast but with sharp wits and cat like reflexes you could get a radical left. 5 dudes and dudettes in the water looking like they are having a sweet morning. Grab whatever stick makes you stoked and head out.

PATCH: Waist to chest and breaking all the way out side. Morning mid-high tide most likely helping and almost 30 sirs and madams out. Mostly a few nose riders sliding around but a fish will do the trick. RESPECT all surfers as everyone wants some. No snakes. Grab a thruster and practice your grab rail cut backs.

Daily Surf Report - 5/18/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Clear, sunny and chill morning in Bolinas today.  No clouds, light puffs of wind, smooth ocean and temp starts at 55F.  High pressure over the region through the weekend so come on out to the beach, it's a beautiful day.  Not much but a little bit surf wise.  Enough to get wet and stay tuned for the new S swell expected to start showing up later today.

CHANNEL: Periodic peaks with not much energy behind them.  Enough to get your log moving and get your fill.  Get your 10 wave limit outside in the Channel on the thigh high lefts then change spots and sample something else.  Tempt your taste buds on the Mali-BO rights as they cruise along at a snail's pace through the Groin and to the beach.  Only knee high but what a ride!  Early morning high tide helps but it is on the way out so get your suit on and ride.  About 12 already in the water.

PATCH: Light winds blowing offshore here helping to groom up the waves.  They are small and few and far between but shapely and rideable on a big board.  Inside rights are smooth and run along the Snags to the beach.  Scattered peaks mid way and occasionally outside and size is knee to thigh all over.  Sunny and beautiful here.  Grab something big and walk the plank.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/17/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Really beautiful morning with sunny, blue skies, no wind, temp of 55F and an overall calm demeanor at the beach.  Dogs are running, birds chirping, kids on their merry way to school - a serene scene for sure.  We are pretty much between swells at this time with only local windswell and a slight touch of S here and there.  Use what you've got to get what you need.  Grab the lunch tray and flippers and go get wet.

CHANNEL: An occasional and promising knee high + grinding left appearing in the Channel on the deeper bar.  Looks rideable and worth checking out.  Wall jockeys debating its merits right now.  Tide is heading low into the late morning so sooner is better or wait until the afternoon / evening set at this location.

PATCH: A few SUPs and logs way outside and to the northern reaches of the Patch today.  A few waves to sample and size looks to be thigh high at best.  Smooth ocean, glassy and warm out already.  Grab something big and give it a go.  If your board is too small come by the shop and check the rack for the log of your dreams!

Daily Surf Report - 5/16/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Sunny and warm afternoon with temp up to 73F.  Surf does remain small but more water has helped slightly.  Marginal conditions at best.

Calm, overcast and mild with a morning temp of 58F.  A few puffs of wind here and there and fog ringing the coast.  Maybe some sun today or not.  Very little out in the ocean to produce waves.  Local N windswell and a dying, and already small S swell.  Still have low tides and not much in terms of waves this morning.

CHANNEL: Low tide still going lower for another 2 hours.  Knee high grinders across the Groin bar.  Not sure if is actually surfable.  No takers at this time.  Much more water and swell are required.

PATCH: Empty lineup.  Not even a SUP in sight.  Most all rocks exposed this morning and tide still heading lower for a bit.  Flat as can be right now.  No swell and no waves rolling through yet.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

LOW:  10:32 am  0.2'

Daily Surf Report - 5/15/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Almost summer and the living is easy.  Calm, clear, sunshine, no wind and morning temp of 55F.  May be getting a few clouds before the weekend then  high pressure kicks in again with some off-shore winds.   Still have local N windswell and the new S swell holding in steady with small wave heights and long intervals.  Morning low tide still a bonus for rock pickers but there is a bit more surf to explore this morning as well.

CHANNEL: Low tide still going lower for another hour.  Take the time to stretch out and plan your attack on the knee high lefts exploding across the Groin sandbars.  Still showing a lot of Groin wall and sandbars at this time.  More water required.  Afternoon longboard decompression expression sessions are the right call at this spot.

PATCH: Most all rocks exposed this morning and tide still heading lower for a bit.  A bit more surf just out past the meeting rock today and about 6 in the water at this spot.  Inside rights to the south of the exposed rocks are grinding away and looks like the best wave.  May require a quick exit before the beach but the bottom is sandy and the wave is smooth and fun.  Size looks to be almost waist high today and bigger board always scores in the Patch.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/14/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Sunny, clear, calm and windless.  Temp starts at 56F and will warm up.  Another nice day in Bolinas.  Slight uptick in the surf but just a little bit.  Still have local N windswell and the start of a new S swell.  Numbers are small but a bit more to ride even with the low morning tide.  Hockey playoffs in full swing so not a total loss.  Rock pickers still score in the morning with the negative tides.

CHANNEL: Exposed sand bars and full Groin wall for your viewing pleasure.  Fishermen taking advantage of the conditions to get some surf casting in.  A few knee high lefts off the Groin bar but otherwise needs more water.  Afternoon Mali-Bo sessions have been small but rideable and fun.

PATCH: All rocks exposed this morning.  A bit of surf just out past the meeting rock where 3 longboarders have gathered.  Thigh high waves breaking periodically here.  Could be the start of the S swell showing up.  Long lulls to be expected but as the tide fills in could give that little extra push to get your 10 footer moving in the right direction.  Join the fun and paddle out.

Daily Surf Report - 5/13/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Partially blue skies already with the sun winning the battle to appear.  Very calm and quiet morning with an early temp of 55F.  Promises to be a nice day in West Marin.  Not much of not much surf wise with only windswell showing from both the N and S.  Another great rock picking / tide pool morning.  Lots of treasures still to be found.

CHANNEL: Exposed sand bars almost giving you a walking path across to Stinson this morning.  Negative low at this very moment.  A few intrepid longboarders are in the water exploring the calf high tubes rolling left at the Groin.  Can only get better with time and more water.  Afternoons and evenings have been rideable.

PATCH: Almost all rocks exposed this morning.  2 SUPs and 1 log out at the meeting rock which is about 3' out of the water.  Not much here to ride today but probably some good water conversations are taking place.  Grab a cup of joe and let the tide fill in.  Maybe there may be a knee high right to ride.

Daily Surf Report - 5/12/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

CALL IN ADVANCE (after calling mom), we may close early.

UPDATE 11:30! SUN IS OUT!

Its a grey day in Norcal. The morning fog is hugging to the water and the tide, as well as the surf have run away together. The sun is trying to break through and should as the day progresses. It is 88 degrees this morning.. in my car, and a sharp 54 degrees outside. Lots of road kill so watch out for the bunnies, raccoons, and DEER. Over all its crisp but should become another beautiful day.

CHANNEL: Shell collectors are in heaven as the exposed sand bars are exposing those special trinkets for your significant other. Its about knee high and with some luck, a finless board, and plenty of stoke, you might find a 1/2 second left before getting a mouth full of sand. Rights somewhat working yesterday with the high tide. No one out yet.

PATCH: If your teaching a 4th grade marine science class your in luck! The rocks are as exposed as they get, and all the critters are hopping around looking for a puddle. I saw a calf high set as a boat wake peeled in, but there is most likely going to be very long lulls in between those. Bring your ma down to the lake and soak up the sweet smell of the sea. (Wait for the High if you must surf here.)

Daily Surf Report - 5/11/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

NOON UPDATE: Full sunshine and 67F.  Waves slightly improved to knee high!

Ghostly coastal fog wrapping around the bay. Negative wind and a negative tide this morning. Temperature is a cozy 54 degrees but feels like a balmy 56 at least. The water is warming up and feeling like at least 75 in my 5.5/4.5. Sea birds frolicking among the exposed rocks and sand bars exciting the not so happy, recently dry, marine life. Over all its a beautiful day in Norcal.

CHANNEL: Showing a few double over toe sets that close out when they hit the exposed sand bar. No one in the water but YOU can be the first. Restless dogs and restless seals are having some staring contests and the morning beach walkers are getting their Zen on. Wait for the high tide and possibly get a lil' somthin somthin.

PATCH: Head on over and take a peek at all the crabs and starfish. SOLID 6 to 8 inchers pounding the exposed rocks and for some reason no one is out. The morning soul searchers are looking longingly over the fields of drying kelp but alas, a low tide stank in making them cry. Possibilities for logging may arrive as the tide goes high.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.
