Daily Surf Report - 10/28/2011

Enough digression for a while. Now back to the basics which are weather, surf, tides, wind and events.

That Fall feeling is in the air which is currently 45F but sunny and beautiful this morning. Lightly offshore breeze and a relatively smooth ocean. A few lines starting to form and hopefully a precursor to increased surf. There is a decent period swell from the north on the buoys.

Channel: Thigh high little peelers in the middle of the Channel. Only 2 or 3 longboarders out in this spot. Sun is up and light spray off the back. Waves are small but rideable today.

Patch: Signs of the Patch waking up with scattered surfers and SUPs outside and to the north. Lines forming with typical swell period waiting but rewarding with waist high waves and some long rides.

Daily Surf Report - 10/27/2011

Less to think about:
If you are coming to Bolinas you should already have a low key attitude and vibe about the surf. Bolinas is a fun and funky town known for its artist community and small waves to name a few things. Have awareness and know your surroundings. Give the lineup and waves a check to get a surfer's perspective then put on your suit, grab a log and glide into some slow rollers. Enjoy the beach and town. Support the local merchants. Have a nice beach day.
Our report is not scientific, nor based on models or long term swell forecasts. It is a real-time snapshot of the surf conditions in town. Having surfed or observed the waves we post a morning report for all those thinking of coming out to Bolinas. Use it as best you can. At the shop we will help you get the best fitting suit and right board for your ability level. We will point you in the right direction and describe the various breaks. We will give you advice and hold your keys while you surf. We will do everything except gently push you into breaking waves.

When the surf is small - as it tends to be we give you alternatives like boogie boards, handplanes and surf mats so you can still get in the water and stay stoked.

Remember, waves are fickle and surf changes rapidly and is based on many changing conditions. Tide, sandbars, swell, current and wind to name a few factors will change the surf conditions throughout the day. Don't expect to roll out here at 2:30pm and have the morning report hold true. Keep the mellow attitude and remember where you are and what the sport is all about. But again, think less, put on your suit and get wet. Add a bit of soul to your surfing.

Sunny, crisp at 44F. Lightly offshore winds and good Channel bars with nice peelers rolling in.

Channel: Thigh to waist high lines through the middle to the inside, about 6 people out. Offshore spray and a nice morning to catch waves. Longboards are best right now.

Patch: Periodic and knee to thigh high + waves are showing outside. 2 surfers out but a bit of waiting for the moment to happen.

The board rack is full of sticks waiting and wanting to be waxed and ridden. Surf season is upon us so come by and check out the selection.

Daily Surf Report - 10/26/2011

Another thing,

Surfers are known for their ability in "clutch" situations.
"Adrenaline Junkies"~ always "in the moment"
This can be problematic, due to the fact that waves are not always around.
Sometimes surfers think there will be waves around, when in fact, there will not be waves around. This is called "over-amping" ~ Some surfers are known for over-amping, some are known for under-amping. These reflect one's experience with the ocean conditions, and in no way, reflect their actual mental conditions. Contrary to popular belief, surfer's are actually not "mental"

Neither are the waves at the moment. They are more- "chill" and also quite fun looking. Definitely refrain from freaking out and thinking there will be barrels or anything. Just bring your longboard and do what should be done in bolinas, trim.
66 degrees, no wind, sunny, peelers : )

Channel: Knee to waist high lines through the middle to the inside, about 6 people out.

Daily Surf Report - 10/23/2011

Good Morning,

We'll start with the good news. It's a beautiful, calm day.
Sun is shining, winds are calm and offshore. It feels balmy with
a current temp of 55 degrees. It's definitely a nice day.
The unfortunate news, however, is the lack of surf.

There was one surfer in the water who looked as
though he was doing a prayer to the surf gods
for which he was rewarded a knee high peeler on
the inside of the Channel/Groin.

But as I said, it's definitely a nice day to enjoy the beach,
or a hike, or pretty much anything outdoors.

Channel: Occasional knee high peelers on the inside.

Patch: Currently flat...

Daily Surf Report - 10/17/2011

Good morning,

There is sun...somewhere out there. I can see the halo of the sun, and feel that with some time this morning the foggy shroud that sits on top of us will burn of, and the fog sitting on top of the ocean obsuring our vision of the waves will leave and reveal micro surf in super glassy conditions. I tried to burn the fog off with my heat ray vision this morning, but to no avail. I could see the shorebreak, in the 2ft range, glassy as can be, cascading along the shoreline in front of the boat ramp. There are some surfers coming and going, headed in both directions to the patch and the channel, but I couldn't tell you how many people are actually out there since this Octofog is playing the role of curtains. I'll update when the curtain is pulled and the surf reveals its gloriously small peeling fun self. If you've got nothing else to do, grab some coffee or tea, read your latest issue of the Worker's Vanguard, occupy Wall Street, make some investments, call your broker, then hit the beach and shred the Mondays away.

Channel: with the greatest powers of deduction and imagination...the buoy is calling 2ft @ 10sec from the North and 2ft@ 14 from the south, probably knee, maybe occasionally waist, grab a log and slide on that morning glass.

Patch: If that South is actually around out there, the Patch could be it right now under that veil of fogginess, rising tide and lil peelers could deliver some serious stokeage to the right surfer on the right board...at the right time.

Daily Surf Report - 10/15/2011

We start the day with Musical Youth to put us in a good mood - Pass the Dutchie. We then roll into The Police for the rest of the day.

South winds ahoy but moderate. Currently overcast with a balmy 59F temp. Still expecting sunshine and temps into the low 70s today. Surf is like the packaged chicken you buy at the grocery store - pieces and parts. There are about 10 in the water so waves can be ridden. Small S south and NW windswell combo.

Channel: Lefts off the 2 bars working in the thigh high size. Coming from a few directions due to the wind. Longboarders out getting some. Textured ocean surface today.

Patch: Inside waves in the knee to thigh high range. Tide dependent so should change throughout the day. Not working outside but a few SUPs paddling. Hoping for the evening glass off.
