Daily Surf Report - 8/31/2011

"UPDATED" Bolinas Surf Report: 2:45 PM

Everyone is asking "is the surf up yet?"
Answer: yes, the swell is starting to show, AND the wind is still up too- about 10 knots onshore from the south. There are waves coming in everywhere, not really big, but definetly energy in the water, but not as surfable as it should be. Only like 5 people out in the water. No need to bring a shortboard yet.

Channel: Super high tide, the left off the channel bar is trying to grind, at around waist to almost chest high, but because of this tide there really is not too much to work with as far as shape goes. Dropping tide could = long lines

Patch: Probably the call, the wind is not killing it as much here, and there are a few people out surfing. About waist high, but lined up and somewhat consistant. Things should get better with the tide drop and hopefully the winds will beging to mellow.

Daily Surf Report - 8/30/2011

Goodness Gracious,

I wish I could do the surf report later this week, when a swell is here. At that time though, I will probably just be surfing.
I truely would love to be telling everyone about great waves and conditions. I however, am not one to fight their own destiny, and I am realizing that I am indeed determined to be the grim reeper of surf reporters~ bringing news of cold onshore conditions and ankle high waves. Thats just the way it is folks. Not my fault. Neptune is preparing for something, I can say that for sure, but today it seems, is a day of preperation. That said, such preparations do most definetly include learning to surf (your #1 priority remember?) Today is a great day for that indeed, crumbling and gentle knee high waves with nobody around. Perhaps, later today, when the sun comes out, we could see ideal longboard and learning conditions... so bear that in mind.

Channel: Waves in the ankle to knee high range today. Scattered peaks from Seadrift to the Channel and the inside Groin. Mostly lefts with an occasional right towards Stinson. Incoming tide seems to be helping and a few fun and long rides are out there.

Patch: Outside past the rock are a few small waves in the knee high + range. No one out at this spot right now, but waves are trying to break on the outside, more tide might let them do so.

Daily Surf Report - 8/29/2011

UPDATE: 12:40 PM, SUN HAS BURNED THROUGH AND THE TIDE IS HIGH, AS IT DROPS THE WAVES COULD PICK UP A TAD

Good Morning Californianites and followers of the Sun.

Today it seems Bolinas beach and surf spots are a little tired and cloudy from such a busy weekend. I mean, I guess waves are breaking through the fog, and I guess there are a few guys out, I mean, I did see someone at the channel shuffle into a ankle high left for a cross step-to- 3 second trimsection. In my opinion, it looked like a lot of work. But hey, if you have the means and abilities to get stoked off of a lined up, 58degree, 1ft and foggy, sandbar left, you should go into the ministry or something, because your powers of stoke and optimism go beyond the sandbar. Also, if you need to beat the crowds of this weekend and still cleanse your being with a wave on a longboard in a serene and peaceful setting, you could definitely do so at the channel today. I will let you know if the sun comes out later today.....Om, peace, peace, peace~

Channel: Waves in the waist high + size breaking consistently on the Channel bar. Smooth and rideable lefts. Inside Groin waves as well in the thigh + size. Might be able to get a smaller board working on the inside sections but a longboard is the best call right now.

Patch: Starting to show signs of life with a few SUPs and loggers outside. Waves in the knee to thigh high size. Mighty still need some more tide to fill in and evenings have been working.

Daily Surf Report - 8/24/2011

*Faugust 24th

AFTERNOON UPDATE 2:30PM: SUN IS BLAZING, PEELERS ARE...AROUND~~~~~~
**********************
MORNING: 8:45 AM
I see fog, and I see logs. Logs on long waves, maybe even above waist high : D there is a full on pack out at the channel. about 15 people on it. No one at the patch, but I saw a wave (ankles)***temp is about the usual 58 degrees in the air this morning. Yesterday it heated up and the sun came out before lunch. I am rooting for the fog, but don't let that stop you, it sure wont stop everyone else, including the sun from coming out!

Channel: Breaking around waist high on the middle to outside channel bar, definitely fun and consistent for big boards, all except SUP's (fog and paddle boarding are dangerous combinations, fog is too thick up that high)kinda a heavy pack on it at the channel, multiple lefts breaking.

Patch: knee high and crumbling in, possible session here.

Daily Surf Report - 8/23/2011

2:20 PM
UPDATE: FAUGUST FOGGATHON UPDATE.... SUN WON, AND IS BLAZING

The Faugust "foggathon" is currently raging in Bolinas!
I could barely see the waves, but hey, I saw some waves.
Breaking in the channel, in the middle, about waist high.
If vision is not too important, and you are a more "feel" oriented surfer, you might enjoy this morning up here. Who knows? the sun might even burn through everything, as it always seems to do~ You could have 2 days in one! Light onshore winds... about 58degrees in the air...

Channel: Breaking around waist high on the middle to outside channel bar, definitely fun and consistent for logging, a couple people out, I saw someone get out of the water on a longboard really stoked.

Patch: Nada...maybe sometime later today with + tide match 4 the patch~

2:30 pm update: SUN IS OUT, LITTLE PEELERS WORKING IN SPOTS

A Good Munday Morn to all ye wayward beachgoers and seafarers,
This week is begining with very mild and soft conditions.
Clean, workable lines are rolling through, but they are small, and the boards in the water are definetly big. Mellow tides rising throughout the day could bring more waves with the water. If the pressure permits, we could see the sun as well : )Currently-No wind, light drizzle in the overcast air, 59 degrees.

Channel: Breaking small and thigh level in the inside channel bar, defiently fun and consistant for logging, Some guys on paddleboards are amping, someone on a longboard is style-ing....

Patch: Nada...maybe sometime later today with + tide match 4 the patch~

Daily Surf Report - 8/19/2011

Foggy, misty, drizzly, gloomy morning? I say no. I see a smooth ocean and calm winds. I feel a temp of 55F. Who needs sun when the steep angle south swell is still showing.

The swell still remains, and there are again rideable waves breaking in glassy conditions. The tide is mid most of the day so water levels are good. There are surfers in the water and waves to be had.

Channel: About 8 surfers and 2 SUPs in the water. There are waves reeling along the groin bar. Left in the thigh high range + and long rides to the inside. Bring a longboard to have the best results.

Patch: There are small, knee high waves breaking on the inside. They are rideable and the incoming tide will help as well. 2 surfers on out logs at this time.

Daily Surf Report - 8/18/2011

Good morning,

Well, if you were banished inland like myself yesterday, and heard all the hoopla of so and so going to this and that spot, and playful south swell in the water, maybe you feel cursed by Neptune or Posieden on which ever sea god you prescribe to at this point in your life.
But I digress...
Today, by the good graces of our beloved oceanic storm systems, some swell still remains, and there are waves breaking away in somewhat glassy conditions and a slight onshore hint of breeze. The tide is low and incoming, but should improve throughout the day, maybe we will even see some sunshine out here, but Icarus don't fly too close to the sun and wear your sunscreen. Our current air temp is 55*F and it is overcast and misty.

Channel: About 8 surfers out at this time and there are waves reeling along the groin bar, lefts, in the knee to occasionally chest high range.

Patch: the cookie crumbles and the waves in this zone are in the knee to, maybe waist if you're praying on your board or doing the downward dog. Low tide and should improve later with the push, currently one surfer out at this time.

Daily Surf Report - 8/17/2011

1:30pm Update:
I have seen the light and it is accompanied by blue sky and warm temps. 71F currently, with sunshine and light winds. Surf picking up as well.

Good morning,

I really do preffer my mornings to start off grey like this.
Blanket of clouds, 59 degrees, misty air, and best of all, no wind.
And when the sunshine comes (which it usually does) it will be a wonderful change to such a soft start. Speaking of soft: the waves are for sure.

Channel: Soft and playfull little lines coming through the channel, about at the knees. Breaking on the outer groin bar, and with more water, I bet this could shape up rad, the swell is steep, so it is wrapping in at nice little angle, I will be taking my log out later for sure, currently a couple of longboarders out this morning.

Patch: Crumbling sets out the middle, in the knee high zone, very big board required, but ridable....nobody out at the moment...

Daily Surf Report - 8/16/2011

Good morning,

And yes it looks grey, and grey is at least neutral right? So yes, a little overcast with no wind, but some ridable waves are wanting to manifest in the channel. With a little more tide I am sure they will come to. With a little pressure as well, we could see the sun today, very possible that it will break through before the end of the day.
Check back for sunny updates.

Channel: Waves breaking in the knee to thigh high range.
Currently bottomed out tides, with rising everything.
No one out yet.

Daily Surf Report - 8/13/2011

1:30pm Update -
Sunny skies and temp is 70F. Winds remain light. What are you waiting for? Come out to the beach.

Again no wind but foggy and overcast to start the morning. Current temp of 55 degrees. Ocean a bit textured from negative low tide but should smooth out during the day. Sun should be here by early afternoon.

Channel: Waves in the knee/thigh to waist high on the better ones. Breaking on both the Groin and Channel bars this morning. A little sectiony but they grind along and are lots of fun when you hook em up. Should get better with the incoming tide. About 10 in the water.

Patch: Low tide with lots of exposed bottom. Intermittent and crumbly surf in the knee high size. Mostly breaking inside. Improving with afternoon tides. No one out at the moment but good for evening logging.

Daily Surf Report - 8/10/2011

Still a little sick out there... not~ "sick!" Just kinda makes me sick~
Onshore winds putting minor texture on the water, aka "the morning sickness" Quite cloudy and cold, at around 55 degrees, I wonder if this will be able to blow off by lunchtime? you never know in this zone~ GOOD NEWS: the sun usually comes out! It loves to~ yesterday it did at around 3:33! I will keep you updated this afternoon if I see the light *_*

Channel: Waist high waves trying to break on the outside Channel bars. Current conditions call for longer board, for sure. As tide goes out should get a little better for short boards. Inside Groin bar still working somewhat and longish rides when it all connects. About 3 longboarders out this morning.

Patch: Intermittent surf in the crumbly knee high size. Mostly breaking inside. Improving with afternoon tides. No one out at the moment.

Daily Surf Report - 8/8/2011

Update: 3:33 PM~
Sun is out, wind is sideshore, little swell, longboards will work!

Congratulations to Jack Ellis, 2Mile sponsored rider, who placed first in the Grand Legends division in yesterday's Kupuna Classic!!! Go Jack, you're AWESOME!!

2nd Place went to Loren Moore, another Bolinas regular and our Surfrider Foundation Marin chapter contact.

Good morning, Happy Monday~ 8/8/11 is a lucky number!

And with a little luck this morning, the clouds could clear and the small swell that we have could shape up into something somewhat ridable, currently however- things are a little shapeless with the high tide, and the foggycast is hanging a cold windless blanket over the zone.
Around 55F.

Channel: Waist high waves trying to break on the outside Channel bars. Current conditions call for longer board, for sure. As tide goes out should get a little better for short boards. Inside Groin bar working as well and longish rides when it all connects. About 6 longboarders out this morning.

Daily Surf Report - 8/6/2011

Good luck Jack Ellis, competing in the Kahuna Kupuna Classic in Pacifica today. The shop is pulling for you to bring home the trophy!

Happy Birthday April G. We all miss you.

Misty, overcast and foggy morning with light S winds and a current temp of 56F. Hoping for sun by early afternoon. Lightly textured ocean surface but pockets of smoothness and swell in the ocean. Chunky pieces of surf and bring your paddling arms because the current is strong.

Channel: Waist to chest high waves breaking on the deeper Channel bar. Shortboard rippable if you can make it to the right spot and hold position. Inside Groin bar working as well and long rides when it all connects. Inside perfect for the handplane.

Patch: Intermittent surf in the thigh high size. Mostly breaking inside and a few on longboards already. Improving with afternoon tides.

Daily Surf Report - 8/5/2011

Misty, overcast and foggy morning with S winds and a current temp of 57F. Hoping for sun by noon. Textured ocean surface due to low tide and wind. More tide and less wind would improve conditions but it is marginally surfable with about 8 in the water.

Channel: Low tide conditions with pieces and parts in the thigh high size. Surfers congregating in the Channel after giving up on Seadrift. Groin needs more water.

Patch: Low tide conditions, with lots of exposed rocks. Not much doing right now and no-one surfing here yet. Should improve with more tide later today.

Daily Surf Report - 8/4/2011

Misty morning with a balmy 59F current temp. Patches of sun starting to burn through. Light winds and smoothness on the ocean. Little swell lines showing even with the low tide. Small spinners to be had today. More tide could improve conditions but it is currently surfable.

Channel: Low tide conditions with little spinning lefts showing in the thigh high size. Surfers spread out from the Groin through to Seadrift where waves look a bit bigger right now.

Patch: Low tide conditions, with lots of exposed rocks, maybe a little wave on the outside, but not real consistent yet. Inside is showing potential with smooth ocean surface and a nice little left to be had that is knee to thigh high. Watch out for the inside rocks! Should improve with more tide later today.

Daily Surf Report - 08/03/2011

Update: 2:24 pm ~ It is warm and sunny, and the winds are friendly!
I am hearing that the channel is quite fun right now
Come on out, the rest of the afternoon should be quite nice : )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morning:
Bo could get betta, but for now, it is 55 deg and onshore winds, with overcast conditions. This morning sickness very well might blow over,then clear and turn off-shore in a few hours... when the sun burns through and turns the winds into the prevailing direction. There actually is some small groundswell lines showing through the chop though...
Channel: Low tide conditions with long textured little lefts showing, if the winds mellow out like I think they will, this spot could get fun with the incoming tide, currently there are a few heads in the water hoping for the best as well.
Patch: Low tide conditions, with lots of exposed rocks, maybe a little wave on the outside, but not real consistent yet. Could be longboardable later in the day with more tide and less wind. At the moment~ not so much.
Daily Surf Report - 08/02/2011
Good morning. In Bolinas we currently have foggy skies, with grey and glassy conditions. The air is at around 59 degrees, and the ocean is currently drained out from a negative tide at 7 Am. Conditions should improve throughout the day, as the tide fills in and lets some of the swell get in.
Channel: Low tide conditions with knee to waist high waves peeling in... The shape is better than the past few days, there is more energy showing now, things could get shredable with the tide filling in. People are catching waves on shortboards on the Stinson side of the channel.
Patch: Low tide conditions, with lots of exposed rocks, maybe a little wave on the outside, but not real consistent yet. Again, should get better with a little more tide so the swell can show...
Channel: Low tide conditions with knee high waves crumbling in... last night this spot was fun, and with more water in a few hours, I imagine it will be again...currently 1 or 2 early birds paddleing around at this spot...
Patch: Low tide conditions, with lots of exposed rocks, maybe a little wave on the outside, but not real consistent yet. Again, should get better with a little more water plus a small south swell that should be filling in... Four people on the outside, and a no one surfing inside yet.
ONE-OF-A-KIND KAHUNA KUPUNA BENEFIT SURF CONTEST RETURNS TO PACIFICA FOR 12TH YEAR!
The 12th Annual Kahuna Kupuna benefit surf contest will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California from 7 am to 5 pm. Entry forms are now being accepted and are available at all Pacifica surf shops or via download at www.kahunakupunasurf.org.
Developed with the idea of putting a spotlight on the ever growing numbers of local avid surfers moving into their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond while also raising some much needed funds for PEF, the Kahuna Kupuna is the only amateur surf contest in the world that offers surfers 50 years of age and over competitive divisions that are set up in 5-year increments as well as offering a “Junior Kupuna” division for surfers 40 – 49 years of age. Kahuna, in Hawaiian, means “Big Chief” and Kupuna means “Grandparent” or, more accurately, “older member of the community who others turn to for advice and counsel.”
