Daily Surf Report - 3/31/2011

Another sunny and beautiful morning in Bolinas - 2 in a row! Current temp is 56F with highs in the 70s predicted. Windless with a smooth ocean surface. Still have some NW swell in the water and the start of a small but long interval S which continues to give us something to ride.

Closing at 3:00pm to attend PJHS Track meet vs. Windsor.

Channel: Rideable surf in the waist high size with sets up to chest/shoulder. Waves have a bit of a bump in them as sandbars are not fully re-formed but there is some decent energy and some good fast sections. Mini Simmons worked well today. Bars in the Channel and at the Groin pole are working.

Patch/Groin: Waves in the waist high range with longboards and SUPs catching them outside past the rock. Sunny and smooth with lots of different peaks.

NEWS: Mini Simmons Surfboards -
New batch of Mini Simmons boards are in the shop! Come by and be one of the first to get your hands on the boards. Get on one if you want to fly!

With the return of retro and classic surfboards, many surfers love the feel of riding a Mini Simmons board. Based on the early designs of Bob Simmons, who was light years ahead of his peers, the boards were considered revolutionary at the time. They have enjoyed resurgence in the last few years with a massive decrease in their length, and a modernization of their features. The best way to describe these boards is short and wide. The board is a revelation to ride. They are loose, oh so skatey and the fastest board you’ll feel under your feet -period.
Designed so that even the heaviest of riders can go small in size, these boards are ridden ridiculously small, rarely getting over the 6’0” mark. An awesome alternative to the swallow-tail fish which can tend to be tippy and doesn’t handle bigger surf well.

We have new locally shaped SK8 Hand Planes in the shop made from recycled skateboards. Pair it with a set of Churchill fins and you will always have a smile on your face after your session. Each plane is unique and has individual signed artwork. Come by the shop and check them out. Makes a great gift for the surfer in the family.

Awesome board bags from Deeper Visions are flying out the door. Hand-made by a local Bolinas artist. A perfect way to store your board and all are one of a kind. Check out our current selection or ask about a custom order.

Just a reminder to pack your trash!!! PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 3/26/2011

3:30pm - Sun is out and wind is light. Surf cleaning up a bit. Closing shop early.

Mostly light drizzle falling - not actual rain. Partial clearing skies with small patches of blue. Winds are still light but weather was not very cooperative last night and ocean is still not very organized. Current temp is 52F and rain is predicted throughout the day. There are a few people in the water catching waves but it is a mixed bag of 3 - 4' peaks again. If you are committed or really need to get wet there are a few drops to be made.

Channel/Groin: Disorganized break in the 3 - 4' range. Not very surfable but lots of pieces and parts of waves coming through.

Boat Ramp: Breaking 3 - 4' but not as clean as yesterday. Short lefts and rights that are holding up a little bit so you can make a drop and turn.

Patch: Disorganized break 3 - 4'. Like the Channel it has pieces and parts and the low tide is not helping. Could improve with more water and good weather.

Daily Surf Report - 3/25/2011

A respite from the rain for the moment. Partially clear skies with actual sunshine, light winds and a current temp of 50F. Rain still in the forecast but currently dry and decent in town. Ocean has calmed down and is surfable if not very organized. If weather and wind hold off should clean up nicely for the weekend. Big thanks to county sheriff and Cal Trans who worked hard all yesterday clearing the roads of fallen debri and mudslides.

Channel/Groin: Disorganized break in the chest to overhead size range. Not very surfable but lots of pieces and parts of waves coming through.

Boat Ramp: Breaking chest to head high and the better spot right now. Short lefts and rights that are holding up a little bit so you can make a drop and turn.

Patch: Disorganized break 3 - 4'. Like the Channel it has pieces and parts and the low tide is not helping. Should improve with more water and good weather.

Daily Surf Report - 3/21/2011

Closing at 2:00pm today.

Good Morning,
The sun is out this morning.
Forcast calls for rain later in the day. Wind is picking up.

This morning is looking pretty clean compared to the last few days.
There is a good push in the water with all spots seeing waves in the chest high plus range. It's not super clean, with the high tide mushing things up and some texture on the water, but it is clean enough at this point, with solid peaks all over.

Solid waist high sets are rolling into the channel.

The patch isn't as clean but there are peaks outside, inside,
you name it. Waves are in the waist to chest high range. A hand full of people are on the far inside.

Out in front of the boat ramp there is a solid peak as well. With the occasional perfect peeler. Chest high.

As the tide drops later in the day it could clean up real nice.
If the winds stay down it could be perfect.

Daily Surf Report - 3/20/2011

Good Morning, happy first day of spring!
Sun is poking through the clouds.

This morning is looking pretty clean compared to the last few days.
There is a good push in the water with all spots seeing waves in the chest high plus range. It's not super clean, with the high tide mushing things up and some texture on the water, but it is clean enough at this point, with solid peaks all over.

Solid chest to head high sets are rolling into the channel. Again not real clean but if you're feeling adventures you will catch some big peaks that are occasionally connecting up with the inside for a fun ride.

The patch isn't as clean but there are peaks outside, inside,
you name it. Waves are in the waist to chest high range.

Out in front of the boat ramp there is a solid peak as well. With the occasional perfect peeler. Chest high.

As the tide drops later in the day it could clean up real nice.
If the winds stay down it could be perfect.

Please drive with caution as there is a lot of debris on the road.

NEWS: Mini Simmons Surfboards -
New batch of Mini Simmons boards are in the shop! Come by and be one of the first to get your hands on the boards. Buy and ride today - it works insane.

Daily Surf Report - 3/17/2011

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Wear some green and celebrate.

Clear skies today with lots of blue showing - guess the rain is going to hold off. No wind and crisp temp of 44F. Ocean surface is smooth and there is swell in the water. It is a surf day today.

Channel/Groin: Shoulder to head high sets - again. Sandbars have settled down and are working. Dredging on the inside and very shortboardable even on the high tide. Better yesterday afternoon with lower tide. Good, workable lefts with some Seadrift rights. Lots of W in the swell direction so also some 2 - 3' waves breaking right in front of the boat ramp.

Patch: Chest to head high on the sets. Still breaking way outside with the higher tide. Longboards and SUPs in the water all catching waves. Should improve with tide change later in the day.

Closing at 2:00pm today. PJHS track meet vs. Healdsburg today. Go Bantams!

Daily Surf Report - 3/12/2011

Surf's Up! Just fun to be able to say that today.

Clear blue, sunny skies with no wind and a current temp of 50F. Another nice weather day on tap so come on out to the beach and enjoy. W/NW activity on the buoys has brought waves to town today. Some sand moved around yesterday with the extreme tidal activity and it may take a bit for the bars to completely reorganize.

Channel/Groin: Solidly breaking surf in the chest to head high range on the sets. Deep Channel bar and inside Groin bar working with some sections between. If you can connect the dots and draw a good line it will line up for some long lefts. Decent energy in the water and short boards will work today.

Patch: Pieces and parts that are not too organized. Breaking way outside and inside as well. There are a few SUPs, longboards and a surf kayak in the water. Wave size is waist + and you will have to hunt for good waves. Incoming tide may improve this spot later today.

Daily Surf Report - 3/8/2011

Closing at 4:00pm today.

Overcast and drizzling this morning. We should have a high in the mid 60s, west winds up to 10mph, and partly cloudy skies this afternoon.

Channel/Groin: knee high sets inconsistently breaking to the right of the Channel. Some longboarders out catching waves.

Patch: small sets about ankle high breaking far out.

NEWS: Mini Simmons Surfboards -
With the return of retro and classic surfboards, many surfers love the feel of riding a Mini Simmons board. They are loose, oh so skatey and the fastest board you’ll feel under your feet - period.
Designed so that even the heaviest of riders can go small in size, these boards are ridden ridiculously small, rarely getting over the 6’0” mark. An awesome alternative to the swallow-tail fish which can tend to be tippy and doesn’t handle bigger surf well.

Daily Surf Report - 3/6/2011

As of 12:00 pm:

Tide hasn't helped much.

Channel/Groin: Not working at this time.

Patch: Breaking inconsistently in the knee to thigh high range
on the inside.

The most consistent and best size is in front of the boat ramp.
Most of the time it's closing out but the occasional peeler is rolling in.
There are about six people out there making the most of this otherwise dismal beach day.

Will be closing around 1:00pm today.

Good Morning,

It is a wet, grey morning here. There isn't too much wind
at this point, just a little texture on the water.
Surf is small and inconsistent.
No one out at this time.

Channel / Groin: Occasionally breaking in the knee high range. If you're really hungry to surf bring your longest board and you will be able to catch a little something. May improve as tide fills in.

Patch: Low morning tide still filling in. Waves are small, not breaking until almost on the beach.

There are a few waves breaking in front of the boat ramp as well.
Thigh high, inconsistent. I will check conditions a little later and update.
