Daily Surf Report - 8/31/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius

Well Bolinas has finally returned to its more familiar self as the last little bit of the Hurricane Marie swell has died off. Bring all your biggest logs today as waves are back to that knee to thigh range all around. Air temps are at 59F and bound to heat up as  the sun is already out and showering us with its rays. The wind is still as of now and sheets of glass encase our bay. Crowds are already starting to form as we start the morning, so get here before the parking is gone and the beach is packed like sardines. Bring your sunscreen and come have some fun.

CHANNEL:  Small waves breaking in the knee to thigh high range as a handful of logs are riding and gliding in front of the groin pole. Over on Seadrift it is the same story minus the crowd. Fun waves all around that should only get better later in the morning and mid afternoon with the tide. In front of the boat ramp a few small waves are breaking and a few guys are out having fun getting slammed in the shorebreak. Whatever your choice is today, it'll be the right one.

PATCH:  Small rollers making their way through today from the way outside and once breaking, are in the knee high range. About 4 logs enjoying their morning meditation and occasional ride. Longer to longest boards will be key today.

Daily Surf Report - 8/30/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing" - Socrates

Put them shortboards away fools and break out the logs.  MEGA Marie swell has dropped and surf is now back to a more manageable size.  Swell remnants are here but waves are now more conducive to your longer length water craft and energy levels are back to normal.  Amateurs and beginners rejoice!  Still have a full crowd pouring into town.  Parking is already at a premium and long walks to the beach are expected.  A beautiful morning with sunshine and blue skies making the early appearance.  Temp is 58F now and will get warm over the full holiday weekend.  Expect crowds and general madness and mayhem on land and in the sea.  Know your limits and have an ethos.

CHANNEL:  Surfable and fun sized waves in the thigh to waist high size this morning.  Tide heading low but water levels are good all day and the waves are spread out from the Groin pole all the way across to the Seadrift community.  Lefts at the Channel now best suited for longboards and sectioned with medium length rides.  Lefts at the Groin a bit smaller but better shape and longer rides to the beach.  Seadrift has rights that may be best today with the current swells.  Enjoy the wealth and beauty in the ocean and go home with a smile on your face.

PATCH:  Roly poly surf outside and well outside.  Longer boards for sure today as it is typical Patch stuff with thigh to almost waist high lumps trying to break on the lowering tide.  Inside waves will work at the Snags as well and size here runs knee to thigh.  It is working but you will need length to get in and maintain speed.  Rideable and glideable on the right equipment.  If you are coming up short swing by as our racks are full of boards that work.

Daily Surf Report - 8/29/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Search out your space, discover your solitude, and leave the turbulence of daily life behind." - Anonymous

Consistent swell staying in play and bringing out all the heavy hitters.  Ripping shortboarders, legendary loggers, retro hipsters, prone pipers and everyone in between.  Much more manageable, clean and rideable today but still has EPIC size for Bolinas and is breaking in spots yet un-named.  Be a hero in the making today by committing to the drop.  Speed to burn and turns a plenty can be the norm depending on your skill level and place in the pecking order.  Big swell spreads things out but lots of surfers in the water and parking is down to nil.  Tides are favorable throughout the day so call in sick to work and find your way to the beach NOW.  High overcast but relatively windless.  Temp 61F and we will have sun by noon-ish.  Grab your surfcraft of choice and jump in today.

CHANNEL:  Chest to head high lefts this morning that start deep in the Channel and remain at the Groin pole.  Not connectable but plenty of face to fly on at both spots.  Looks like Seadrift has cleaned up as well and is delivering rights to ride that have some size bigger than you are used to.   Expect plenty of paddling and the potential for injury and broken boards remains available as well.  Push limits but know limits as well.  Let the crystals guide as they always know best.

PATCH:  Starting in front of the boat ramp and moving north into the far reaches of the Patch there are waves to ride.  Low tide has things pushed out towards the Farallons and size is chest to shoulder high.  Loggers rejoice as this is the good stuff for your single-fin contraption and we don't see surf like this on a regular basis.  Keep it kool and keep it klassy out there today.

Daily Surf Report - 8/28/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"I'm like a walkin' razor, don't watch my size, I'm dangerous, yeah dangerous." - Peter Tosh

Macking combo of S / SW and NW swells continues to pound Bolinas.  Could be considered EPIC - it is at least very big and overhead in most spots.  Some sets close out the beach and some waves pitch, fire, hold up and reel towards shore.  A true combo of everything Mother Ocean can throw at you today.  Overcast, 61F and no wind to help keep things smooth.  Should end up being a sun and surf spectacular later today.  Rabid surfers frothing to get in the water and all parking spots filling up.  Crowd of wall jockeys as well just to watch the spectacle in the water.  Not a day for amateurs or beginners and the corners are best for clean rides.

CHANNEL: Head high + sets as the swell remains solid and in charge this morning.  Deep outside in the Channel and well beyond the Groin pole has surf breaking and rideable for any board or plank you desire.  Inside corner lefts are smaller at shoulder high + but have good shape and enough water to make turns and rip on.  Most are big drops, a turn and closeout but those that hold are are very surfable today.  Crowded but spread out with lots of water moving around and tide hitting low.  Know your ability levels and find a place in the lineup that suits your desires.

PATCH: Scattered and sizeable at chest high with waves all over breaking and some actually being ridden.  Lots of tide pull sending surfers out and S to areas well out in front of the boat ramp.  More water should help clean it up a bit but for now there is surf here for most boards but not super clean.  More manageable conditions and better suited for beginners today.

Daily Surf Report - 8/27/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"In the end, it's the characters and company that turn activity into passion." - Claire Buchar

Days like these are what memories are made of, what we recall as one of the best moments of our year. It is mornings like this that we reminisce about for today is beautiful and joyous. The sun has just rose above the hills and skies are clear with no wind. And on top of that, the swell is Pumping. There is a solid 4ft S swell comboing with a 2-3ft NW that are creating some of the best surf all summer. Not only that, but the swell is expected to build and the tide is coming back in which should only improve the conditions. All watercraft are rideable today, from your biggest log to your smallest chip (though smaller boards that aren't fish-like will have a tougher time). Beginners be warned of the size today and know your limits. But regardless of surf, it is a perfect beach day so come on out and have some fun.

CHANNEL: Head high sets are breaking way out in front of the groin pole and peeling across almost all the way to the boat ramp as a crowd is already forming. The tide is just starting to come back in and should improve the conditions and the size is more than likely to reach that head high to overhead range. Seadrift isn't breaking as well yet, but with the tide expect some excellent rights to peel and reel through over there.

PATCH: Waist to chest waves are breaking, slightly jumbled, but consistent nonetheless. Should pick up later with the tide as it is just starting to come back in. Still a solid choice today and probably the best place for those absolute beginners.

Daily Surf Report - 8/26/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"The surf waits for no man." - Anonymous

Well people the surf gods are smiling on BoBo this morning blessing us with favorable conditions. Air temps this morning are 62F with clear to slightly cloudy skies. For the surf, get here. Waves are in the thigh high range all the way around. Just a few people in the water and no wind to speak of. The making of an ultra classic morning.

CHANNEL: Thigh high lefts breaking in front of the groin pole peeling into little almond barrels. Middle channel has a few rights rolling into the sea drift side. Smooth and clean conditions with only a few guys out this morning. Get here!!!!!

PATCH: Different story. Knee high peaks jumbled and rolling over the shallow rocks as one brave soul challenges the patch this morning. Still clean surface conditions but no order. Could possibly be the hot spot later in the day.

Dail Surf Report-8/25/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Yeah, Well, thats just like your opinion, man" - The Dude.

Grey skies prevail this morning here in our little piece of heaven. Still and calm in down town BoBo today. As for the surf-not much happening as the swell has died down a bit and south winds are on the menu. Air temp at 61F and should heat up later this afternoon. A few hardy souls are braving the conditions. Hopefully with the tide shift conditions will improve. Bring your largest stick to the beach today for the salt water soak will be a long one.

CHANNEL: Thigh to waist high waves are breaking in front of the groin pole with two people out trying their luck. Not much breaking over on the sea drift side or in the middle channel.  Slight texture due to wind and tide. Little mushy and a little closed out. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for later in the day gang.

PATCH: Small to knee high rights mushing their way through the way outside today. A few guys put with an SUP struggling to have fun. Hope for improvement as the tide comes in. As for now the jury is still out.

Daily Surf Report - 8/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"I could not tread these perilous paths in safety, if I did not keep a saving sense of humor." - Horatio Nelson

There's an energy about town today as the sky is grey, the winds are blowing, and the swell is pumping through this morning. Slightly overcast skies are present and bound to lift later in the day as air temps are at 62F and bound to heat up into the 70s later today. SW winds are blowing pretty steadily at 5 knots and are supposed to shift to NW and pick up later in the day. Combo-ing NW and S swells are converging in our little bay this morning producing waist plus waves that may reach head high on the right tide. Will be a tough day for beginners so I suggest to err on the side of caution and know what your limits are. Be safe and ocean minded.

CHANNEL:   Consistent waist high plus waves are breaking with a short interval as a handful of guys are out dealing with an already high rising tide. SW winds are making waves mushy and the surface textured, but they are rideable nonetheless. Over on Seadrift, a few rights are breaking through as they reach across from the walled and closed out middle channel. In front of the groin pole, or more to the right of it, lefts are coming through breaking in the waist to chest range with some standout sets in the head high range. All sorts of water craft will work today, just be aware of the tidal rips and size.

PATCH:   Lines on the horizon, lines on the shore. The swell is easily seen here as waves are breaking way outside the meeting rock and all the way in to the Snags section. Many of the waves are a bit mushy right now and roll more than break all the way to the inside section. That said, waves are plentiful in the waist to chest range and the rollers are still standing up enough to glide on in. Bring your magic stick and see whats in store or just have fun getting slammed in the shore-break.

Daily Surf Report - 8/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"It is always overhead when your are prone." - PeePaw Piper

Overcast and calm in the early morning.  No chance for the sun to shine yet but it will appear and cast a glow later today.  Expect moderate temps up to 70s or better.  Now 61F and light puffs of S wind but an overall smooth ocean with some energy and juice this morning.  Something has got the surf kicked up this morning.  Buoys still showing a slightly larger NW windswell and the steep S swell.  Combo angles may just be coalescing over Bolinas today as there are plenty of waves to ride and glide upon.  Some stuff not for amateurs so be prepared to show your surfer card to anyone with and inquiring mind.

CHANNEL:  Reeling, dealing, peeling and squealing.  Consistently waist high or better with the incoming tide giving that little extra push.  Water levels are low but the waves power through un-impeded.  Lefts are holding shape in the Channel and connecting through at the Groin bar.  Slight wrinkle to navigate and the inside corners are perfect for paipos and body surfing.  Water is warm and a few waves are actually pitching.  Best waves going nearly shoulder high.  Longboards are working.  Eggs off all varieties will score as well - scrambled, fried, over easy or sunny side up.  Fish can manage too - salmon, halibut, rock cod and stripers will make easy work of the inside lefts.  Overall fun morning surf that should stick around and adjust with the tides.

PATCH:  Well outside is where it begins.  Green Afrika and beyond if the current group of surfers are any indicator.  New continents being explored by the intrepid few way out past the meeting rock.  Peaks abound in the region mid-way and starting to work inside, and size flows from thigh high to almost chest.  Relatively smooth ocean surface and everyone is spread out all over.  Looks like long rides can be had and lots of paddling required to make your way back out.  Good stuff on the right board.

Daily Surf Report - 8/22/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"The power of imagination makes us infinite." - John Muir

Overcast with high cloud cover but no rain, mist or drizzle.  Sun came out yesterday and warmed things up to nearly 70.  Expect more of the same today with sunshine by early afternoon.  Now light S winds chopping the ocean surface up a bit.  Temp is 60F and the positive possibilities are endless.  Swell activity remains consistent with NW windswell and a steep S swell combo in play.  Current swell angle and tide are sub-optimal for epic results but there are a few in the water now riding the small stuff that is being offered up.

CHANNEL:  Groin corners have thigh high or better waves to ride at the present moment.  A bit ripped up and choppy in the Channel but the incoming tide push starting to show a little at Mali-Bo.  Time and more water will help this environment flourish.  Now just bits and pieces but waves are available.  A couple of logs and SUPs interacting here with mixed results.

PATCH:  Not smooth but has small waves.  S pulses being observed in the thigh high realm of reality.  A bit of wind on it keeping things not so glassy yet drawing a few surfers out to sample the wares.  Bring a big chop-cutter longboard and power through the early morning wobble to find nirvana on a wave.

Daily Surf Report - 8/21/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." - Albert Einstein

Nearly rain and wipers are on this moist Marin morning.  Almost drizzle, we call is mizzle as it is a heavy mist.  Overcast and foggy as well but that is keeping the winds light.  Temp clocks in at 60F and that may be as warm as it gets today.  Who needs sun when kids are back in school and a little wave is available to ride?  Still have NW windswell and the remnants of a steep S groundswell to contend with.  Combo is possible and those waves are best.  For now relatively small but rideable and incoming tide push should help.

CHANNEL:  A cluster-cuss of surfers sitting on the Groin bar peak that is delivering thigh high rights and lefts for your longboard this morning.  Waves to be shared and ridden by you and your closest friends.  Remember positivity and sharing is caring.  Keep one eye open for Mali-Bo insiders as the tide is right for small wave rippers there.  Seadrift is foggy but likes windswell and should have something to ride if the maddening crowd of 8 is too much to bear.

PATCH:  Nothing much happening and even less to report as the early morning Patch has low tide and low waves.  J-ankle high at best and perfect for the fishing kayaks launching early this morning.  Tour on your SUP but waves will be scarce until the tide fills in late morning.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"What is a soul? It's like electricity - we don't really know what it is, but it's a force that can light a room" - Ray Charles

Cold wet and drizzly day in down town BoBo. Gray skies and little surf as air temps are holding at 61F this morning.  Hope is on the horizon for a change in the tide today. The swell is nearly non existent as south winds prevail through the morning. Bring your hoodies as the shadow of mordor has descended on our little hamlet today. As Bon Scott said "let there be light" and there was fog.

CHANNEL:  Small and mushy today as the tide is coming in and the south wind blow. Small ankle slappers are on the menu as one lone soul braves the conditions this morning. May improve with the tide, keep your fingers crossed.

Daily Surf Report - 8/19/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." - Andy Dufresne (Shawshank Redemption)

Dreary is the sky and even drearier are the waves this morning as the mist is heavy and the swell has depleted itself. But that may just be the morning blues as mother earth knows that school has started back up again. Air temps are at a brisk 58F as light winds are faintly making their way around town. If the current trend persists throughout the day, the sun is less than likely to show itself as the clouds give an ominous reminder that, yes, winter is coming soon...ish, and summer is reaching it's end. If you decide to come out, bring your biggest log and paddle hard. No such thing as a dry run.

CHANNEL:   Small waves in the ankle range are rolling and barely breaking this morning in front of the groin pole as 3 logs try their best with little luck. Not much breaking over on Seadrift or in the middle channel. The tide is high so conditions may improve later this afternoon. The waiting game is on.

PATCH:    One guy out meditating as some lines roll through, but never break till they kiss the beach. There may be a stray pulse every now and then as the S swell fights to stay alive, but those will be very few and far between if at all. This spot could see improvement with a different tide, but don't hold your breath just yet.

Daily Surf Report - 8/18/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"If you fell down yesterday, stand up today." -H.G. Wells

The grooving guitar of Jimmy Page is playing as we make the misty mountain hop from inland towns on this Monday morning. The fog is low and windshield wipers are in effect as we kick off the week. Swell is still present as waves are breaking in the knee high range and winds are light (thank you morning fog). Air temps are at 59F and will probably stay around there till much later in the afternoon when the sun finally breaks through as has been the trend the last few days. Should be a fun and mellow morning for beginners and veterans alike.

CHANNEL:    The tide has just peaked and the waves are slightly swamped out. Yet there is still one guy out trying his luck at Mali-bo which is breaking in the ankle-knee range. Over on Seadrift, similar conditions are persisting and rolling through. Middle Channel is completely swamped, but will more than likely see improvement with the lower tide later this afternoon.

PATCH:   Knee plus sets are rolling through as the surface is a mirror of glass that is only blemished by the three logs out that are rotating turns all the way in. Tide is a bit high, but waves are still coming through with a little push as the SW swell is still trying to push through. This spot is the call for the morning and will likely stay fairly good throughout the day.

Daily Surf Report - 8/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." - Mark Twain

For many, today is the last day of summer as school starts anew and all vacations come to a close. And for many this is the beginning of a new chapter in life. But it has not all ended quite yet as the ocean greets us this morning with k-k-kombo-ing swells and and glassy conditions. It's as if she wants the summer to end with a bang. Air temps are in the low 60s and bound to heat up later today as winds are light, the water is warm, and waves are breaking in the playful knee to waist range all around. Perfect day for any size log and possibly some shorter boards if you're a grom. The tide is a bit high as of now- hitting the seawall- but waves should be breaking throughout the day as the tide stays at moderate levels. Bring your friends and family, sunscreen, and stoke for today.

CHANNEL:   The tide is going out slowly this morning as it is still a tad too high. Waves are breaking in the knee range in front of the groin pole as five logs take turns gliding to the inside. Over on the seadrift side there are two logs and one SUP doing the same. Inside Mali-bo seems to be the best in shape as of now, but everything seems to be rideable out there and should stay fairly consistent throughout the day.

PATCH: Waist high witchery has twelve guys in a trance this morning as the tide is dropping and waves are rolling in fairly consistently. Water levels will start to dwindle as the tide goes out, so maybe grab some breakfast and coffee in the mid morning and wait for the tide to come in. The SW pulses should be coming in throughout the day so don't be hasty and enjoy what the ocean has to offer.
