Daily Surf Report - 2/28/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.”- Unknown

Whipped by wind and frothy.  Rain and wind and plenty of it on tap today as a decent sized storm is here.  Again not fit for fish or fowl but perfect for the second group of private school teens?!  Lots of debris littering the roads and ocean so tread lightly today.  There are about 99 things to do today that would be more appealing than trying to surf.  At least browse our racks of new boards for the next time it gets clean.

CHANNEL:  Victory as sea today with white caps and burly looking choppy waves.  Size is likely chest high or greater and not organized in any way.  High tide still pushing in and up the ramp to the street.  Have fun.

PATCH:  Big old sloppy mess today.   High tide giving it plenty of water and no shape as storm surf is in play.  Avoid.

Daily Surf Report - 2/27/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I haven’t a clue how my story will end, but that’s all right. When you set out on a journey and night covers the road, that’s when you discover the stars.”- Nancy Willard

Ripped and torn, crashed and burned.  Past storm churned with chocolate milk colored ocean.  Not really fit for fish or fowl but perfect for private school teens?!  Plenty of rain last night but clear and sunny now with patchy blue skies.  Still a bit of wind but not too bad - probably wouldn't help or hurt today.  Enjoy the wet and take a hike is my best advice.  Will need a day to calm down and another big storm is predicted for Friday.  Drive slow as the roads are littered with branches and such and remain wet.

CHANNEL:  Here there and everywhere with storm surf pieces of waves up to chest high.  Are they rideable?  Who knows as there are no takers yet and it is not too inviting.  Also a Michael Jordan sized high tide still peaking and rushing up the ramp carrying the debris from last night.

PATCH:  Sloppy mess and high tide nonsense.  Partial almost waves that look like waist high junk-funk.  Maybe if the weather stays calm and the tide goes out it might work later.  Doubtful.

Daily Surf Report - 2/26/2014

We are closed on Wednesdays during February and March. However, we will re-open tomorrow morning at 10AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come." -Robert H. Schuller

Good morning to all of you offspring of the brine. It's finally here! No, not that Wilt Chamberlin basketball and Goal set I ordered off the back of a comic book way back when... I'm talking about the rain! It's starting out a little slow but you can see it building! Granted the surf is sloppy, messy and no fun but this rain is really what the doctor ordered for right now. So, sit back, relax and just dig the precipitation!

CHANNEL:  Total 'Victory-At-Sea' as it's a drunken mess with on-shore wind and a rain storm that even a zillion janitor boards couldn't mop up.

PATCH: The empty parking lot alone tells the story, but one only need to look at the sky and the wind and falling rain to ascertain that today is not a surf day.

We are closing early today. We will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 2/26 but will re-open on Thursday, 2/27 at 10AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions" - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Good morning kids! I hope that you all slept well. Boy, it's not looking too good out there on the water this morning. On-shore breeze with almost zero swell and what do you get? A day at work/school/cell block B. Not a heck of a lot to talk about. The vultures are circling a dead critter over by the pilings and probably the "dead beach day" as well. It's currently 53 degrees and very overcast... yes, that rain storm is a'coming! YEW! We need it! If anything should change for the positive in the water conditions I will be sure to post it right here. If not... you already know the drill.
If you have the day off I suggest renting a few Harold Ramis movies... Ground Hog Day is always good.

CHANNEL:  Not even worth a paddle. All that's happening here is the lagoon is draining faster than the Greek economy. Maybe later but I have my doubts.

PATCH: Same as above (only without the lagoon part). Skunky, junky and funky.

We will be closing early today but will re-open tomorrow morning at 10AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way." - Mark Twain

Happy Monday to all of you creatures of the deep. It's a beautiful, crisp yet sunny morning here at the beach. The temperature is coming in at an arresting 46 degrees but not a cloud in the sky as the birds and critters are all singing in the key of Sam Cooke as they don't know much about history, don't know much biology but what they do know is it's a wonderful world. Much like yesterday, it's fairly teeny out there but with a HUGE plank to spank you can find a corner in your own private Idaho on which to slide.

CHANNEL:  Yeah, it's about waist high BUT it's also a 'waste' as the lagoon is draining heavily and jankin' the place up. Close-out white water rapids are all that is offered now, BUT that's not stopping two (2) silly rabbits who are standing (yes, standing) to keep position to attempt a Rio Grande run. Ha! Trix are for kids!

PATCH: Occasional thigh-high rollers come across the middle of the Clam Patch and break slowly right into the shore! A bit of a wait as six (6) regulars are having to 'ride share' the commute to the beach. It's sunny so what the heck.

Daily Surf Report - 2/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The only source of knowledge is experience." - Albert Einstein

Good morning to all of you kooks, wannabes, veteranos and weekend warriors! It's an overcast morning here at the beach at 50 degrees and a slight on-shore breeze that will build throughout the morning/day. The tide is rolling out harder than Cossacks on Pussy Riot protesters in Sochi! not much swell today, kids. It could be a great day to give Mt. Tam a try for a wonderful hiking expedition (Matt Davidson trail is a personal fav) or just bring out your custodial board and mop up in the lagoon, or get a bike ride in before the (much needed) rains come in a few days. If things change for the positive we'll be sure to throw down the 411 right here... otherwise, we won't.

CHANNEL:  The low tide for the next few hours coupled with practically no swell is making this spot... "NOT." However, none of this is deterring a lone humanoid from paddling out and wishing. Though we all know that if wishes were fishes the ocean would be full. One (1) humanoid as I write this with knee-high stanky jank slurping around the exposed sand bars.

PATCH: Inconsistent knee-and-below undulations are not really doing much of anything here this morning but that isn't impeding many folks as the "I drove all of this way so I'm going out" mentality is what seems to be the attitude today. It's breaking waaaaaay inside as the rocks of the Patch are showing their teeth and the aggressive showing of teeth will only get wider for the next few hours, so be mindful of that. Twenty plus (20+) from many janitor boards to logs to even a guy with a shorty (?) all paddling for redemption from the drive out here. I say, good luck with that, matey!

Daily Surf Report - 2/22/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Make yourself proud.” - Peter W. Smith

New beginnings and fresh starts today.  Quaff your coffee, snarf your granola, gurgle your vitamin supplements and get yourself ready for greatness.  Embrace the day like no tomorrow and don't look back with regret.  Again it is sunny, clear and beautiful with an initial temp of 47F.  High pressure in the region so get that vitamin D while you can.  Not much out there swell or wave wise this morning with low tide / no tide and easing NW swell.  It is mystical, magical and micro-sliderish today.  Has me thinking pancakes or crepes...

CHANNEL:  Low tide still dropping for another 2 hours!  Showing lots and lots of sand and very few waves right now.  Beautiful weather and beach day though.  Much more water is needed and that will take a few hours today.  Knee high at best and fairly messy conditions due to the draining tide.  You can walk out to the lineup now and explore the sandbars that lie beneath.  Try wait - check back in the afternoon.

PATCH:  Has dropped considerably from yesterday and is only showing scattered and inconsistent peaks now.  A function of dropping swell and low water levels.  A few surfers in the area trying to find a corner to ride.  Hike now.  Surf later.  Ankle high.

Daily Surf Report - 2/21/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The wind and the waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.” - Edward Gibbon

Back to beautiful today with full sunshine.  Not a cloud in the sky, no wind and morning temp of a chill 47F.  Looks like the start of another nice beach weekend.  Easing swell and low morning water levels but there are a few waves to ride if you pick the right spot and have the right equipment.

CHANNEL:  Low tide still dropping for another hour.  Showing lots of sand and few waves right now.  This spot has good bars but does need more water to really strut its stuff.  Reeling and peeling lefts off the Groin bar but size is just knee high.  A bit of a jumbled mess in the Channel proper with the low tide bottoming out.  Seadrift not feeling much either just yet.  Keep your eyes open and let the water fill in and this could be the afternoon or evening spot to ride.

PATCH:  Looks to be the best spot to catch a wave this morning.  Scattered peaks in the area in the thigh to almost waist high size.  Water levels are draining so watch for boils and rocks as they will start to appear.  Decent contingent of longboarders and SUPs spread out here at the moment. Lefts and rights depending where you sit.  Paddle out and find a few now or wait til the mid-morning low has its coffee and perks up with more water.

Daily Surf Report - 2/20/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.” - Anaïs Nin

Clearing skies and chirping birds greet us on this wonderful West Marin morning.  Calmness prevails in town and temp is right at 50F.  Shaping up to be a memorable day at the beach.  We do have good NW swell numbers on the buoys as things bumped up overnite but low water levels right now not quite letting it in.  Time and tide are required to get the party started here today.

CHANNEL:  Low tide just hitting bottom has lots of sand exposed and little surf happening.  The bars are ready but we need a bit more water and time for the swell to fill in.  Seadrift rights looks to be handling it a bit more regularly and the occasional Groin bar lefts are thigh high with a solitary surfer on a longboard in the water.  Chill with your crystals and let time pass.  Watery rewards await the patient.

PATCH:  Waves outside that are going un-ridden as the lineup is empty.  Mind the meeting rock but use it as your take off zone.  Plenty of exposed rocks inside as well but navigate smartly and you will find rides.  The middle softens up and flattens out but give it a few hours and let the incoming tide provide the needed water levels and expect improvement.  Size looks to be waist high.

We are closed every Wednesday during the month of February but we will re-open this Thursday at 10AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." - Mark Twain

And a good morning to all of you bipeds of the brine. It's a gray morning here today at the beach as the sun seems to be sleeping in today. The temperature is sneaking in at a comfortable 53 degrees and the birds are all out singing in the key of Tom waits. The recent swell we had is dissipating but there is still a smidgen of something slightly resembling a wave here and there because the piano's been drinking.... not me.... not me.

CHANNEL:  The sand bars are showing their gams right now and what little bit of emerald goodness is left is sloppy like a three-gin & tonic debutant. Occasional waist high white water splatter that's about as clean as a bum living in a refrigerator box. Maybe later with the tide change...? Three (3) out there now struggling.

PATCH:  Pop-up waves outside and in the middle of the Patch in the waist-to-below size BUT, it's the Patch and most of these waves roll along before either a) Section then vanish into the brine from which they once came, or b) Rear up, roll for a few seconds and without ever breaking they vanish to where they once came. A few longboarders and of course, janitor boards are out there now playing "Whack-A-Mole."

Daily Surf Report - 2/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them." - James Baldwin

Good morning to all of you humanoids of watery realities! Truly another great morning here at the beach as the sun is up with that gold-toothed grin again, the birds are singing in the key of John Coltrane as the temperature is loping in at a soothing 47 degrees. Now, one would think, "Gee, that sounds pretty nice. It doesn't really get much better than that." Hold on kids because it actually does get a bit better... there is surf in town. Not crazy, off-the-chain, macking green slabs but there is surf here. So, on this President's day go ahead and apply the rubber coating, grab the hydrodynamic vehicle of your choice and go get some liquid salt therapy.

CHANNEL:  Waist (+) over that middle bar that is making about as much noise as two skeletons throwing a fit on a tin roof. The Groin Pole and the Sea Drift side seem to be the ticket here as I write this. Sometimes they are clean runs, other occasions they section like the the Sunday New York Times. The discerning eye will dictate the wave selection for you. Several out there now on various craft and more in the parking lot getting ready to take the plunge.

PATCH:  Lines-lines-lines. Outside, the middle, inside, the Snags, E.T's, Green/Africa.. blah, blah, blah. Though it's all in the waist (+/-) range not a heck-of-a-lot of them are breaking cleanly and, typical of the Clam Patch some rear up...roll for a ways then disolve back into the brine without even a whimper. Still, there is something to be had as the ever-growing crowd can attest to that is out there now.

Daily Surf Report - 2/16/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
No sooner does man discover intelligence than he tries to involve it in his own stupidity." - Jacques Yves Cousteau

Well, top of the morning to all of you lads & lassies of the brine! It's a glorious morning at the beach this fine Sunday, although it's 47 degrees the sun is up and grinning it's high-wattage smile as the birds are singing in the key of James Brown and everyone is getting on the good foot. There is actually a bit of surf to ride in town as well, so snap on the neoprene and grab that log and get funky like a bow-legged monkey before that high tide ruins the fun!

CHANNEL:  Waist (+/-) right, smack dab on the middle bar. Not a ton of clean rides in the middle, but the left is showing promise and waaaaay over at the Sea Drift side it's looking like a freshly painted MUNI... so, get your Fast Pass ready and ride the express. Ten (10) plus out there now with more getting ready for the Sunday glide.

PATCH:  It looks like the Patch has finally had it's morning cup of coffee, albeit a cup that might be too weak to defend itself. Knee (+/-) rolling in over the middle of the Clam Patch as well as at the Snags and over at E.T's/Ladies Lefts. Only one (1) patron belling up to the counter for a cup 'o Joe before that tide comes up and pours your coffee out.

Daily Surf Report - 2/15/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Those who wish to sing, always find a song.” - Swedish Proverb

Drink your coffee, snarf your Valentine chocolates, grab your love crystal and welcome to the weekend.  All crystals have been charged by last night's full moon.  Power is at max capacity for excellence.  Overcast and moist but no rain.  Temp a moderate 54F with a chance of rain later.  A bit of South wind on in this morning making for textured surfaces and mixed conditions.  Still have NW windswell and a bit of background S in the water but not much size or energy.  Small waves for longboards can be found if your eyes and mind are open to new possibilities.  Cherish the love of your life and the waves of the day and hold them close and dear.

CHANNEL:  Small surf on tap today as mostly windswell in charge.  Rising tide helping with a little push and post Valentine surf is in progress.  A mix of Groin bar lefts that reel at thigh high and inside Mali-BO-ish rights that are shin shaking and ankle breaking.  Already 6 in the water ripping it up.  Bring your longboard and sweetie pie to the beach and get wet today.

PATCH:  Very small and very weak - like me!  Barely breaking on the inside section and calf high waves can be observed.  Whether they can be ridden or not is another story.  Tide is on the rise and that could help or hurt.  You be the judge and let us know your experiences.  Currently an empty lineup but that could change if one person paddles out.  Be a trend setter and go for it.

Happy Valentine's Day to all you surfers and couples out there.  Show the love, feel the love, be the love that is inside your heart.  Misty, light drizzle, full coastal fog envelopes Bolinas today.  Temp is 56F.  Clearing - maybe.  Fear not, take the leap of faith, throw on some neoprene and jump in the ocean.  Find your happy place and find your lucky wave.  The ocean is smooth and fog covered.  The winds are light and there is a little swell pulse in the water.  Nothing can be seen but guesses can be ventured.  There are rollers right in front of the ramp and that is a good sign.  I'd say paddle out.  The heavy stuff wont be here for a while.

CHANNEL:  Unknown as to wave size but this much is true:
Incoming tide, a bit of NW windswell with a decent interval.  A small background S swell that will be filling in.  Follow the morning crew lead.  Grab a longboard and head to the Groin pole.  What awaits is nothing but goodness and mystery.  Report back to us and we'll all keep it secret.

PATCH: Inside waves are visible near the graffiti wall and I expect the same is working at the Snags today.  Rising tide for another 2 hours.  Find that special someone and take them on a journey into the fog.

Daily Surf Report - 2/13/2014

CLOSING EARLY TODAY.  WILL REOPEN FRIDAY AT 10am

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.” - Albert Einstein

Feels like new beginnings here today with patchy skies and possible clearing.  Some coastal overcast with hints of sun playing hide and seek.  No wind and no rain.  Balmy at 54F and very glassy ocean surface.  Just a little mix of NW windswell but enough to form waves.  Overall nice conditions here today for surfing potential on longboards.  Add some wax to your board and paddle out.  There is always something in the water that will put a smile on your face.

CHANNEL:  Small, smooth and glassy rollers.  Going thigh high but breaking and rideable.  Mostly lefts off the Channel bar and incoming tide push rights over at Seadrift.  Jump in and find your wave as conditions are better than they have been for the last few days.  Nothing epic but there are waves to catch and ride.  3 in the water here.

PATCH: Inside at the Snags is working.  Rising tide keeps the rocks covered and will keep this spot going for a while.  Smooth rights that run towards the sand and go thigh high +.  You know the drill: lather / rinse / repeat.
