Daily Surf Report - 1/30/2012

Ok,
Straight out. There are tiny little waves peeling nicely in goodish conditions. It's about 50 degrees, no wind, slight overcast, and there is no one out surfing at the moment. The shape is good enough to pump a shortboard even though it is only waist high at the channel, looks like it is peeling clean and nice for a longboard.

Channel: Clean little lefts, at the middle of the channel, about waist high. One could force a shortboard, or a longboard would be fun and easy.

Patch: Ankle high and peeling in one spot, not surfable currently, but could be later.

Only days left in Our Customer Appreciation sale which goes till the end of the month - 25% off everything in the store, surfboards are 10 % off. All the details HERE.

Daily Surf Report - 1/28/2012

Low tide / No tide / We need mo tide.

Frosty morning with icy cars and clear sunshining skies. No wind and a morning temp of 39F and rising. Another spectacular and beautiful morning. A beach day in January.

Channel: Funky low tide just now switching around and should clean things up with more water. Last hit of swell dying out but still something in the water to ride. Current surf in the thigh to almost waist high size. Bumpy lefts with shallow inside conditions and swirling tide change. Bring out the longboard for best results today.

Patch: Residual rollers coming through and breaking midway and on the inside. Low-tide, rocky, kelpy style to start the day. A little room to cross step and glide. Incoming tide will fill in the gaps and the waves are knee high + today. Relatively empty lineup but still some fun to be had. Bring the log out.

Daily Surf Report - 1/27/2012

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. Sunshine in my eyes can make me blind.

Clear, sunny and beautiful morning. No wind and a current temp of 46F. Dry conditions to continue through the weekend.

Channel: Funky tide just now switching around and cleaning up the bars. Surf in the waist to chest size on the sets. Bumpy lefts with shallow inside conditions. Both bars lining up as tide begins to fill in. Still shortboardable but less energy today. Still fun surf with some decent rides to be had. About 12 in the water.

Patch: Waist high waves. Not as much going on today as swell dies down. Still scattered peaks but mostly midway and inside on the low tide. Pick a spot and wait for something to come your way then ride it. Longboards and SUPs in the water. Nice and sunny morning to log it.

Good clean swell. 15' @ 17 secs from the North.

Overcast skies but windless with a smooth ocean. Temp is a balmy 54F with dry conditions predicted to continue.

Channel: Chest to shoulder high with sets at head high. Clean lefts off the deep bar and very rideable today. Good clean juice from the new North swell. Shortboardable with long rides all the way to the inside. Clean and consistent surf. Parking lot getting full.

Patch: Waist high to chest high waves. Still scattered peaks all over the place. Pick a spot and wait for something to come your way then ride it. Looking cleaner than it has in the last few days and there are plenty of waves to ride. Surfers and SUPs in the water but too foggy to count.

Daily Surf Report - 1/23/2012

Drizzling and raininig a little bit here and there, the winds have subsided from yesterday. The surf isn't breaking and throwing up all over itself like yesterday and it looks like there might be some potential out there, hopefully with more favorable winds and the receding tide...

Channel: waist-shoulder high? Hard to say with no one out, but it is cleaner than yesterday, hopefully it can reorganize and get together out there.

Patch: knee-waist inside, high tide, no one currently out.

Daily Surf Report - 1/22/2012

Rain rain rain...
Currently 48 degrees, raining, wind variable out of the south, fairly strong, lot's of swell and water moving around. Heard there were some windows of opportunity yesterday but today is not boding well. Definitely swell, if you're in the right place at the right time on the right board, like Slater, maybe you'll get pitted, or maybe you'll just get sick from the runoff...either way, if you go out, be safe and aware of the conditions.

Channel: knee-waist, shoulder high? hard to say with no one out and waves breaking on waves, could be a section or two if you feel like gambling...

Patch: knee-waist inside, high tide, bring a kite and a key...no one out.

Daily Surf Report - 1/21/2012

I'm just a little black rain cloud...
Currently clear, well rain on one side of town, a break in the storm, it might just be recharging for another round. On the drive out there was torrential dowpour, sunshine, rainbows, trees, debri and bicyclists, so if you're driving, AWARENESS, know your surroundings.

As for the surf, kind of side shore winds, not as completely torn as it could be...that said, very high tide this morning with lots of swell, makes it look like a workout, but there might be a payoff out there with the right position, board, and attitude.

Channel: Storm bred wind surf! About 4 guys surfing and 1 SUPer. Waves look to be in the waist to chest high range, tide is maxing out right now, things could improve if another front doesn't come kick the piss out of the coast right away. The ocean just looks a little...er...confused.

Boat Ramp: Little knee to waist high waves, maybe bodysurf or just grind into the shorepound, almost ripping.

Patch: Not much, tide might be too high, but some knee to waist highers rolling on the inside into the shorepound.

Daily Surf Report - 1/20/2012

Real rain - first of the year. We need it so no complaints. Strong south winds with the storm. Stormy surf conditions but not the worst I've seen. Forecast is still calling for swell by this weekend but the weather may play a role in how rideable it is. Temp is 53F and mild.

Channel: Storm swell waves that actually look rideable. Definitely pieces of surf out there is you don't mind battling the elements. Waves in the waist high + size. Nobody out but 2 are taking a look.

Patch: Nothing doing over here. Fairly messy and not very inviting.

Daily Surf Report - 1/19/2012

Drizzle + south winds. Finally some weather is heading our way. Bummer for surfing but water tables and reservoirs are very low. Long range forecast is calling for swell by this weekend so we will see if the weather holds out for us. Temp is 49F.

Channel: 2 surfers heading out but very slim pickings. Windswell producing knee high + pieces of surf. Nothing exciting but if you have to get wet.....

Patch: Nothing doing over here. Also windy pieces of waves. Maybe knee high.

Daily Surf Report - 1/18/2012

GLASSY. Currently no wind, not as cold as it has been, about 47 degrees. Ocean looks inviting except for the lack of waves...bummers. But if you need some exercise it doesn't look like a bad day to go out for a paddle or swim on something just to keep the muscles from atrophying. Fingers crossed, maybe some swell will pick up before the rain, but not looking likely.

Channel: Riptides and swirls, waves in the triple over toe to ankle, ankle and a half range, maybe with an SUP or 10' + longboard, no one currently out.

Patch: One kayaker out by his lonesome, waves in the double over toe range.

Daily Surf Report - 1/17/2012

There was a layer of ice on my windshield this morning, and then the sun came out and thawed everything quickly. It looks like it is warming up and will show to be a beautiful day here. Yesterday was nice, and today seems to be the same. About 39 degrees, warming quick, no wind, no crowds. Little waves, and when the tide lines up nice, then there are nice waves.

Channel: knee high with occasional waist high+, peeling very nice when it peels. Get here when the tide is nice and you might have a blast.

Patch: Lining up clean, through the inside while this tide is dropping. Was probably better early this morning when it was frozen. Currently knee high.
NO CROWDS

Daily Surf Report - 1/16/2012

Happy MLK Blue Monday,

Blue Monday is the other half of the first month of the year. New Year’s resolutions are starting to wobble, holiday credit card bills have come in, and the swell has diminished.
But don’t be sad, the tide is still going out, with a little push we could see something break nicely, it is extremely clean out there this morning.
It is crisp at about 42 degrees with light offshore winds and no clouds to speak of. The ocean has beautiful offshore texture on it.

Channel: Knee high sets occasionally coming through. One guy out, waiting on that tide switch ~

Patch: Ankle to knee, clean micro wave breaking through the inside, I would love to see someone with longboarding skills make the most of this ankle high wave, it is so small but looks so surfable.

Daily Surf Report - 1/15/2012

Clear, calm and cool to start the day. Currently 47F with no wind, very glassy conditions. Swell has dropped considerably, and the tide is drained, but it's still a nice day for a paddle, with a longboard or something floaty. Again, clear and dry and a nice beach day in January.

Channel: Tide is about to bottom out, 6-7 people on longboards out, and waves peeling in the knee-thigh high range.

Patch: Didn't really see anything out here, one guy out, and a lot of exposed rocks.

Daily Surf Report - 1/14/2012

Clear, calm and cool to start the day. Currently 43F with very light E winds not effecting the surf. Still a bit of WNW swell in the water although the period has come down. Draining tide just about to switch which should clean things up. Again, clear and dry and a nice beach day in January.

Channel: Tide just switching to incoming and waves are thigh to waist high. Not as consistent as yesterday but much less wind so getting into the waves is much easier. Good sandbars still giving us rideaable, little left peelers.

Patch: Clean and small. Good shape and loggable. Pop up peaks outside / middle and inside. Small but clean and thigh high.

Daily Surf Report - 1/13/2012

What a difference a few minutes can make. Tide has finished draining and winds have backed off. Now NE and offshore with less velocity. Tide switch has smoothed things out and the waves are clean and peeling.

No crowds - only about 6 people out in total. Clean and very rideable today. Grab the log and go.

Already warm at 57F. High pressure system in effect. No rain in sight but can't beat this weather for January.

Channel: Incoming tide with fairly consistent waves in the waist high range. Offshore spray off the back and a beautiful sunny, warm morning. Fun, little peelers of the middle bar all the way to the groin.

Patch: Still occasional pop up peaks outside / middle and inside. Small but clean and thigh high with nice shape. Good shape and only 1 longboarder out.

Daily Surf Report - 1/12/2012

Very cold, very sunny, very clean and very small.

Currently 42 degrees and rising. Very clear and warming up.

Channel: Incoming tide but occasional waves in the thigh high size. Little spray off the back and a beautiful sunny morning. Grab the longboard to catch waves today. Fun, little peelers of the middle bar to the groin.

Patch: Pop up peaks outside / middle and inside. Small but clean and thigh high with nice shape. You can have it to yourself right now.

Daily Surf Report - 1/11/2012

Small But So Clean,

The weather is starting to warm and the wind is none. 49 degrees and rising. Very Clear.
The waves are about waist high at both spots, and if you ask me the patch is
the call because the channel is crowded and the waves are occasional. About 3 people out at the patch, a dozen at the channel.

Channel: Tides going high till noon, going to get mushier pretty much all day. But for now, there are fun little waist high peelers of the middle bar to the groin.

Patch: Waist high, combing through the inside quite clean. 3 people out. I might log this later myself.

Daily Surf Report - 1/10/2012

In case you didn’t know, Bolinas makes many efforts to turn its back to the world and all of the frenetic efforts of Babylon.
And in a sense, the local surf landscape reflects this. For example, on the shores of Babylon: Ocean Beach, the waters are quite energetic right now, probably too much for most to handle.
The south facing shores of Bolinas, have turned their back to the high energy swells of the North Pacific. The waves that get through, they are just at chest high max, more like heart high.
The current situation in town seems to be a rebellion against peak winter surf season. So don’t come with the eye of the tiger, think more Lion of Judah, on a longboard.

50 degrees, clear, not really any wind.

Channel: Tides going high, was probably rad at sunrise, a little swamped out and crowded right now. About 14 people and the tide will be coming in more and more.

Patch: Waist high, peaks popping up all over, mellow crowd, will continue to have surf as the tides will favor this longboard spot for most of the day.

Daily Surf Report - 1/9/2012

It's Clear, but we are waiting.

There are signs of swell in the water, but a few more things need to line up before we see some great waves. Tide.
The beach is seeing clear weather, about 53 degree temps, with no wind yet.
Waves are trying to get into the channel, but the tide is coming up way too high. This is working for the patch though. The Patch is waist high and lined up quite nice through the inside. A couple people are out at the patch, no one at the channel.

Channel: Walls that turn to mush. Give it a few hours.

Patch: Waist high, loving this high tide.

Another great part of the weather we are having are the sunsets. Here is one from earlier in the week.

Daily Surf Report - 1/8/2012

Greetings and salutations surfers. This may be the first day in a while that the parking is not hectic, but there is a reason. Surf has dropped considerably and the tide is pushing in. A giant squid has attacked a sperm whale and Ahab is currently harpooning himself in hopes of bringing about more swell.

Bo-Beautiful morning with clear, blue skies and full sun in town. No wind and current temp of 45F with clear and dry weather expected to continue.

Channel: Surf is in the...knee, thigh, chicken wing range, free range...there are currently 5 surfers, a dog, several seals, and 2 SUPers in the water, getting waves, but thinsgs! are a little bogged down. Tide switch should, hopefully, help.

Patch: waves in the shin to knee range, 2 surfers out, rocks covered, margaritas later.

Another great part of the weather we are having are the sunsets. Here is one from earlier in the week.

Daily Surf Report - 1/7/2012

Different day and dropping swell. The swell is backing off but the crowds are not. Still jam packed in the Channel. Last weekend of Winter break so expect busy-ness both in and out of the water. Let's make sure everyone plays nice today.

Bo-Beautiful morning with clear, blue skies and full sun in town. No wind and current temp of 43F with clear and dry weather expected to continue.

Channel: Backed down to the waist to chest size with lefts off the middle bar. Not as consistent or clean as the past few days but still plenty of rideable surf. Mob scene of people so be careful in the water. Look both ways before dropping in to make sure no one is behind you. You can still ride a shortboard but high tide is softening things up. Tide will be heading out soon so should get even better.

Patch: Good amount of surf in the thigh to waist high range. Sunrise session with Scotty G. and Mark B. Happy New Year boys! Long rides to be had if you want them. Breaking midway out then mushing a bit. Shift your weight forward on the inside and it reforms and opens up. Another 30 yards of wave to be ridden. Has a little bump from high tide backwash - you will have to hike the seawall or paddle around to get out. About 8 in the water. Plenty of fun waves to catch today.

Another great part of the weather we are having are the sunsets. Here is one from earlier in the week.

Daily Surf Report - 1/6/2012

Take a number and wait you turn - both to park and get in the water. Overly crowded lineup and town today with big SW swell still delivering. When driving in please remember you are visiting a small West Marin enclave that likes peace and quiet. Respect the locals both in and out of the water and leave no trace of your visit except positive vibrations.

Foggy drive but clear, blue skies and sun in town. Slack winds and current temp of 43F with nice weather expected to continue.

Channel: Chest to neck high waves with lots of consistent lefts breaking on the deep bar. Again - very shortboardable today. Thick crowd of 25+ on it. Look both ways before dropping in to make sure no one is behind you - then charge and fly down the line. Tide will be heading out soon so should get even better.

Patch: Lots of waist high waves today. Some breaking outside, some midway and still clean and smooth today. Longboards and SUPs making the most of it and about 10 - 12 in the water. Plenty of waves to catch today.

Boat Ramp: Again a 3 - 4' shorepound good for bodysurfing, handplanes and breaking necks! Some shortboarding going on here as well. Lots of inside little pits to pull into and some cool backwash waves as well.

Important Note from the Bolinas Fishing Community:
When heading out the Channel the boats have a very narrow slot to navigate and during big swells fishermen have to "thread the needle" to avoid having their boats dumped by waves. The boats dont have the ability or opportunity to veer away from oncoming waves and must take them straight on. Surfers - please practice Ocean Courtesy when boats are heading in and out of the Channel and paddle out of the boat's path to let them through.

Daily Surf Report - 1/5/2012

And it is back. The swell and waves that is. Good size and period SW swell kicking in this morning. Crowd is back and fairly skilled today so take it easy and pick your waves carefully.

Beautiful weather with light offshore winds, full sunshine and current temp of 45F. Good day to call in sick and go surf as tide is heading low and it should actually get better.

Channel: Chest to neck high waves with consistent lefts breaking on the deep bar. Very shortboardable today. About a crew of 15 - 20 on it. Look both ways before dropping in to make sure no one is behind you - then charge and fly down the line.

Patch: Waist high surf breaking outside. Super clean and smooth today. Longboards and SUPs on it with numbers around 10. Plenty of waves to catch today.

Also a 3 - 4' shorepound good for bodysurfing, handplanes and breaking necks!

Daily Surf Report - 1/4/2012

You give some, you get some. As if it was actually ours.
The ocean has taken away our set waves, and in exchange we get warm sunshine and small peelers.
That works. Plus, the crowd has thinned quite a bit, so it’s a good deal. I have a feeling people might be saving their juice for the rest of the week, there could be a plague of sickness coming on. I for one, will be watching the horizon and focusing on my breathing.

Channel: waist high waves, breaking through the middle bar into the groin, about 10 people on it.

Patch: Knee high, peeling super clean and nice, you could style out there if you are into that kinda thing.

Daily Surf Report - 1/3/2012

PM update:
This one's got a pulse ~
About 120 pulses, and 240 eyeballs, all trying to get waves and look at you. SO it's crowded, and all the beach-breaks are macking, and these beach-breaks are mostly empty because everyone decided to drive to Bolinas.
The fog is still thick. The tide is draining out, and the channel is still breaking just fine. It hasn't switched yet and it is still breaking fine.

Channel: Bowly pop up peaks on the outer bar wrapping through at around chest high all the way to the inside, pretty clean.
Quite a bit of people on it already. NOT a good day for beginners.

Patch: Great for everyone today : ) Go here. There are peaks everywhere, and they are breaking in unusual places. The crowd is not that bad. Consistent waist high waves, maybe even more.
Even on the low tide, the patch is now breaking in the middle of the beach.
People are catching log waves in the middle of the beach between the boatramp and the patch. Low tide patch!

Daily Surf Report - 1/3/2012

And now for something completely different, or at least unexpected ~
Apparently there is more swell out there. Coming in at a weird angle. I didn’t see this coming last night. I thought today would be flat.
Both spots are rather consistent and packed. Conditions are ok, about 52 degrees, not much wind at all, and pretty foggy.

Channel: Bowly pop up peaks on the outer bar wrapping through at around chest high all the way to the inside, pretty clean.
Quite a bit of people on it already. NOT a good day for beginners.

Daily Surf Report - 1/1/2012

Wishing everyone the best in 2012!

Start the New Year off right with a surf today. We will be open for regular business hours from 10am - 5pm.

Today is the first day to kick off your goals for the New Year.
Surf more and work less? Work harder and surf better? Try a new board design? Work on your cross step? Whatever goals you set for yourself, now is the time to reach them.

Again - sunny, clear and warm. 56F with very stiff NE winds blowing around 15-20 knots. Bring your heavy glassed board to get in and stay on waves. Lots of offshore spray today and waves still remain. Overnight wind has textued the ocean but there are still rideable waves at both spots and the sun is shining brightly.

Channel: Surf still in the waist to chest high size. Very strong wind requires bigger board to get into the waves and stay on as well. Longboards will fare best today. Swell still remains and waves have push. Both bars working and the rights at Seadrift as well. Tide swings will cause changes all day.

Patch: A bit smaller today but still waves in the waist high range. The middle is still working best and cleanest and the inside is rideable as well. Big logs can grab the way outside waves before they mush out. There is enough water covering most of the inside rocks for longer rides.

Just a reminder to pack your trash!!! PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.
