Daily Surf Report - 7/31/2012

Buenas dias, surferos! It's the last day of July and things are looking promising. Sure, it's overcast now and the tide is coming up but a little undulation is showing in the water and it's all glass for that Windex shine!
Overcast skies now but yesterday the sun showed it's big, bald head and the temp went into the low 80's. The air temp is currently 57 degrees. Very rideable waves today. Bring the big board. Conditions look pretty darn good for renting gear and learning how to surf.

Channel: Middle bar and that "Groin pole-to-the-Boat ramp" has it's Mojo working. Waist to occasional (lower) chest high size. About 5 loggers on it right now!

Patch: Relatively flat but wait long enough and a wave will show up with this in-coming tide. This has been the call later in the day. Great spot to hone the log-skills. Currently empty lineup.

Daily Surf Report - 7/30/2012

Geez-O-Pete! That tide came up last night and took just about ALL of the sand off of the beach. So much so that a lot of the past is showing everywhere (the hole at the bottom of the boat ramp, pilings, etc). Of course this also means that this displaced sand should get redistributed as sand bars and, well... you know the rest.
Overcast skies with a slight on-shore wind. The air temp is currently 56 degrees. A small amount of texture but not to worry as the H2O has small but rideable waves today. Bring the big board. Conditions look pretty darn good for renting gear and learning how to surf.

Channel: Has peaks with waves popping up in the knee/thigh high size. Yeah, it's a bit small but this is a blast for walking the plank what with Channel + Groin bars working at the moment. Surfers and SUPs on it right now!

Patch: Relatively flat but wait long enough and a wave will show up. With this in-coming tide this may the call later today to bust out the single fin log and cruise here. Currently empty lineup.

Summer Time = Simmons Time.

If you haven't seen or tried the Mini-Simmons now is the time. Old and new ideas come together, this displacement hull and almost no rocker has been improved by ending the tail with a double concave and a quad fin setup. The fastest and funnest board I've ever ridden. So buttery and skatey on the turns with speed for days. Works insane in all conditions and ridden ridiculously small. We now have a 5'10" DEMO board in the shop that you can rent to experience the difference.

Daily Surf Report - 7/29/2012

Cannonball coming - just like the sunshine. Patchy overcast skies with hints of blue already. Windless and 56F currently. Should be another great day at the beach today. Warmed up to 77F yesterday. Ocean is still nice and smooth and has small but rideable waves today. Conditions look great for renting gear and learning how to surf.

Channel: Has peaks with waves popping up in the thigh high + size. Small but smooth with Channel + Groin bars working at the moment. Surfers and SUPs spread out towards Seadrift with plenty of lefts to ride. Bring a longboard today for best results.

Patch: Relatively flat but wait long enough and a wave will show up. Long, long waits between waves today. When it does deliver there are small rights in the knee / thigh high range. Break out the single fin log and cruise here. Higher tides today make this spot one to keep an eye on for later. Currently empty lineup.

Daily Surf Report - 7/28/2012

SUNSHINE at 11:35am. Temp up to 68F. Looks like the start of a beautiful day.

Another overcast and misty Bolinas morning with current temp of 56F. No wind and sun was in and out all day yesterday so bring some layers to the beach and be prepared to take them off and put them on. Ocean is still nice and smooth and has rideable waves for your longboard. Hoping for more sun later and conditions look good for renting gear and learning how to surf.

Channel: Has a few peaks with waves popping up in the almost waist high size. Small but smooth with Channel + Groin bars working at the moment. Surfers spread out towards Seadrift with plenty of lefts to ride. Bring a longboard today.

Patch: Long, long waits between waves today. When it finally delivers there are small rights in the thigh high + range. Nearly flat but occasional wave pops up that is loggable on a big board or SUP. Higher tides today make this spot one to keep an eye on for later. Currently empty lineup.

Daily Surf Report - 7/27/2012

Shop mouse eliminated last night. Now can come down off the desk everytime it runs by.

Misty morning drizzle - we'll call it "mizzle" today. You will need the wipers + jacket + hat, or just put on your wetsuit and surf. Not cold and winds are light. Current temp is 56F. Foggy and overcast. Sunshing in the Pt. Reyes area already but may not show up here today. Surf has dropped but conditions are still rideable and it looks like a good day to rent gear and learn to surf.

Channel: Small surf in the thigh high size. Mostly lefts off the middle bar heading towards the boat ramp. Surfers and SUPs in the water with lots of waiting time between rides. Smooth and rideable but bring your longboard today.

Patch: Long, long waits between waves today. Nearly flat but occasional wave pops up in the knee high range that is loggable on a big board or SUP. Higher tides today make this spot one to keep an eye on for later. Currently empty lineup.

Daily Surf Report - 7/26/2012

Afternoon Update: SW winds are on it again. Choppy conditions resume.

The wind is G-O-N-E! It is glassy out there and the swell has come up with some clean and rideable conditions for us. Current air temp is 58 degrees and even the water, after all of the wind these past few days is warmer than one would think. Still overcast but a hint of blue sky here and there and sun may make an appearance later today.

Channel: There is a wave that can be ridden on the board of your choice today. Starting to fire in the waist high and clean range. Even though the tide is dropping there is still that left between the Groin Pole and the Boat Ramp. When the tide shifts later this morning to an incoming...I bet it get's even better. About 10 in the water. Watch out for high tide conditons against the seawall as it has been taking quite a few people out the last few days.

Patch: Long waits between waves but when they eventually come they are thigh high + rights to be surfed. Loggable for sure. The rocks are showing their toothy grin so watch out for dings and the kelp is grabbing feet as well.

Daily Surf Report - 7/25/2012

Buenas dias, surferos todos! The wind is G-O-N-E! It's almost glassy out there with a slight touch of texture but nothing to get your surf trunks in a twist over. Out-going tide has the mini-swell showing around the waist high range. Current air temp is 58 degrees and even the water, after all of the wind these past few days is warmer than one would think. Probably in the neighborhood of 56 degrees! Hey, the way this morning is turning out maybe we'll get to see the sun later as well.

Channel: There is a wave that can be ridden on the log of your choice or even a mini-Simmons. Even though the tide is dropping there is still that left between the Groin Pole and the Boat Ramp. Currently waist high and when the tide shifts later this morning to an incoming...I bet it get's even better. About 6 in the water on longboards.

Patch: A little thigh-to-waist high roller about midway in here. Long waits between sets. Loggy for sure. The rocks are showing their toothy grin so watch out for dings and the kelp is grabbing feet as well.

Daily Surf Report - 7/24/2012

It's another slate-gray, Northern California morning here at the beach with the air temp at 58 degrees, an on-shore wind that had a lady with a hooked nose, flying by on her bicycle cackling at me, "...and I'll get your little dog too!." Out-going, low tide has a rapidly showing reef and sandbars. With that we can hope that the in-coming tide a little later today, with the on-shore dying down a bit will perhaps give us a cleaner swell and maybe, just maybe we'll get to see the sun as well.

Channel: Wind-chopped but if that wind calms down there is a wave that can be ridden on the log of your choice. Should see improvement as the tide fills in and the on-shore dies down. Currently thigh high, on-shore stuff with one intrepid soul on it with a longboard.

Patch: A bit of Victory-at-Sea with this wind BUT it should improve later with more tide, less wind and an ample log. The rocks are showing their toothy grin so watch out for dings.

South swells are starting and if you're craving warm water and consistent waves, visit our friends in Mexico at Manzanillo Bay. Manzanillo Bay is a quick and easy surf destination from San Francisco. Daily Surf Report - 7/22/2012

Well ladies and gentleman, another day has begun, light misty wind chill overcastness, like that of David Lopan has shrouded us, slowly burning and lifting, a somewhat glassy micro textured ocean surface and some little waves rippling through. Air temp is currently around 56 degrees and hopefully we will see the sun soon. A pretty low tide has the devil of the upside down sinners chilling on the exposed reef and sandbars...take yer time, get a solid breakfast in there and hop aboard the Pork Chop express, suit up and snag some waves...and just remember, it's just like Jack Burton always says,
"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Channel: looks a little like this right now, a little rain, a little thunder, and a little lightning.
About 6 surfers on some shin to knee high waves in between the groin bar and the boat ramp, with several SUPers joining the mix. Should see improvement as the tide fills fin and the sun comes out.

Patch: a little too low right now, lots of rocks. Finding a wave right here right now is a rarity like a Chinese girl with green eyes promising immortality. One sea kayaker out there now on the search...
Should improve later with more tide and a belly full of dim sum.

Daily Surf Report - 7/21/2012

Aloha surfers, it's a festive morning with reindeer games and pineapple burgers with poached eggs, I'll have one more mimosa please and a refill on the coffee!
The weather outside is, weather...and it's pretty calm, not a lot of wind from any particular direction, a little ripple on the water, but could be a combo of morning sickness and the tide being super low. About 56 degrees out and some little waves reeling through, a great begninner day to surf and to harness and hone those skills before the next swell! Get out there wiki wiki haoles!

Channel: tide is a little too low, but coming up now so conditions should improve. Little waves in the shin to knee, maybe waist high, mostly in the middle of the channel and on the bar moving towards the boat ramp. Little bump, but we should see an overall imoprovement throughout the day. About 5 or 6 guys out longboarding at present.

Patch: nothing really happening out there, super low tide and lots and lots of rocks, there are two SUPers out there, and they're barely catching a cold, so my advice is to wait until the tide fills and hopefully we will have some little patch grinders to log.

1:00pm Update:
Sunny, warm and windless. Temp now 72F. Small waves continue to roll in at both spots
.

It comes and it goes. Fading south swell and low tide conditions greet us today. Light overcast and a balmy 59F with no wind. Smooth ocean but current conditions delivering small surf. Still rideable and an excellent day to rent some gear and practice your surfing skills.

Channel: Waves in the thigh high size. Long rides off the middle Groin bar. Channel bar needs more water as does Mali-Bo and Sea Drift. Still a longboard crew of about 10 in the water getting their rides.

Patch: Still breaking way outside past the meeting rock but has dropped in size to thigh / waist. Plenty on log's and SUP's in the water. Expecting sunshine shortly so come on out.

Daily Surf Report - 7/19/2012

South swell remains in effect today with both the Channel and Patch producing very surfbable conditions. Has dropped a bit overnight but still consistently waist high or better in town today. Currently sunny with a few patchy clouds and 59 degrees. Should warm up nicely again today. Bring your favorite board and get some waves today. It is also an excellent day to rent some gear and practice your surfing skills.

Channel: Waves in the waist to occasional chest high size. The middle Groin bar is the best call as they are holding up better and delivering longer rides. Channel bar a bit sectiony but bigger in size. Sea Drift rights working as tide fills in. It's all good for all types of boards today. About 12 in the water now. Everyone play nice.

Patch: Breaking way outside past the meeting rock and in the the waist to almost chest high range. It's all good here too. Log's or SUP's are the call here. About 8 in the water right now. It is working well for you classic log here today.

Daily Surf Report - 7/18/2012

Some days the old dog has teeth and today is no exception. Both the Channel and Patch are working very well in the chest-to-shoulder high range. Yes, you read that correctly. It's currently overcast and 58 degrees, however this should burn off as it's supposed to be in the mid 70's today! Bring whatever it is you ride in the ocean as it's a wonderful day here. By-the-way, this is an excellent oportunity to rent some gear and learn to surf.

Channel: Waves in the chest to occasional shoulder high range. The middle bar is beginning to work (both the right for Sea Drift and the left are throwing out) as the tide comes up and the left between the Groin pole and Boat Ramp are spinning away. It's all good for all types of boards. About 7 in the water now.

Patch: This spot is breaking in the waist to chest high range way outside. It's all good here too. Log's or SUP's are the call here. One lone SUP out there getting big, clean stuff.

Daily Surf Report - 7/17/2012

UPDATE! The sun is out and there is STILL a bit of a bump in the water producing small but rideable waves. It's currently 71 degress and both spots are making noise with the incoming tide. Light SW winds this morning putting a bit of texture on the ocean surface but nothing to worry about. It looks like an excellent oportunity to rent some gear and learn to surf. Afternoons have been fun with less wind.

Channel: Waves in the thigh high, occasional waist high size. The middle bar is the call now and far more surfable than earlier this morning. Basically, it all looks fun on a log or SUP. About 5 in the water now.

Patch: This spot is breaking (small) but way outside. It's thigh high now and seemed to work yesterday in the afternoon.

South swells are starting and if you're craving warm water and consistent waves, visit our friends in Mexico at Manzanillo Bay. Manzanillo Bay is a quick and easy surf destination from San Francisco. Daily Surf Report - 7/16/2012

Marine layer overcast continues with a current temp of 54F. Sun came out and it warmed up nicely yesterday around noon. Light SW winds this morning putting some texture on the ocean. Diminishing swell producing small but rideable waves. It remains small out here but still looks like a great day to rent some gear and learn to surf. Afternoons have been fun with less wind.

Channel: Waves in the thigh high size. Still a bit sloppy but there are waves to ride on the middle bar again. Lefts in between the boat ramp and the groin pole are the most promising. Nothing to write home about but it could be fun on the right board with the right attitude.

Patch: Very small to flat here this morning. More water may help but currently empty lineup. Ankle now but worked yesterday in the afternoon.

Daily Surf Report - 7/14/2012

Morning all. Well, it is overcast again today, with a moist marine layer hanging out. Although it isn't that cold, the clean conditions we were having here are gone...for now...hopefully the sun comes out later and it will clean up. About 52 degrees and there is a mild to moderate onshore breeze out of the south, but despite that, there is a bit more swell and push in the water, and if you're here and in the right place at the right time you could snag a few little rollers. It is small out here but looks like a great day to rent some gear and learn to surf.

Channel: about knee to waist right now, I almost saw a chest to nipple high wave, and actually looks a little fun despite the sloppy conditions. About 12 guys out on it and looks like you could use a fish, egg or longboard out there. Mostly lefts in between the boat ramp and the groin pole. Nothing to write home about but it could be fun on the right board with the right attitude.

Patch: not much over there right now, kinda sloppy, but there could be something later, no one out currently.

They're Back! Michel Junod surfboards have re-stocked the shop racks. Come by to check out the selection of eggs and classic longboards.

Daily Surf Report - 7/13/2012

Happy Friday the 13th! We will be closing at 4 PM today. Sorry for the inconvenience. A calm still and not too cold morning, with light to variable offshore breezes, small small swell, and lots of water. If you want to surf, you're gonna need a LOG! Channel: shin to knee, occasional thigh to waist high waves. About 7 people longboarding the left, 2 on the right and a SUPer.

Patch: nothing happening at this spot...very lake like, grab a fishing pole.

Another foggy day, mild breezes shifting and small swell lingering about. Hopefully the sun will pop out later in the day. Channel: the tide has filled in a bit and we are looking at knee high crumblers, about 5 guys longboarding.

Patch: pretty flat, about shin high and no one out.

Daily Surf Report 7/11/2012

Shiver me timbers (and everything else). It's foggy, about 54 degrees and the surf is on the small side.
A little bit happening at the Channel and the Patch (when I could see it before the fog set in) was pretty much a lake. Word(s) for today; Big boards, warm wetsuits and hot coffee..
Channel: The tide is about at slack right now. Soft waves (knee high) that are puttering through on the middle bar and between the Groin pole and the ramp. About 6 out now mostly logs and SUP's.

Patch: Was flat earlier and now that the fog has set in you can't even see it. Again, with tide shift maybe it'll fill in later.

Daily Surf Report 7/10/2012

It's a slate gray morning and about 53 degrees, which means it's a classic West Marin summer day! The tide is going out at the moment which means the lagoon is draining and causing that pesky rip in the Channel and the rocks are beginning to emerge at the Patch. Soft waves are the word(s).
Channel: The Lagoon is draining so there is a bit of a rip through the middle of the channel. S-L-O-W, soft waves (knee high) that are beginning to resemble the Patch (?) and we already have one of those. Puttering through between the Groin pole and the ramp. About 5 desperate logs hoping to catch more than a cold.

Patch: The rocks are beginning to show and the waves are not yet. The poor 'ol Patch is grunting and weezing like a fat guy stuck in a reclining chair but nothing is really happening. maybe when the tide starts to fill in later hopefully we'll see some improvement.

Daily Surf Report 7/9/2012

HOLY BEANS! There is STILL a bit of a bump in the H2O this morning, folks. The Channel is barreling along and the Patch has a little (operative word being 'little') undulation rolling through. It's nice out so I think that we'll leave it out. Sun, surf and fun.

Channel: The Lagoon is draining so there is a bit of a rip through the middle of the channel, BUT it's cracking between the Groin sign and the boat ramp mostly waist high and an occasional chest high to the patient one who waits. About 10 out on logs and shorty's.

Patch: Lots of exposed rocks and some waves breaking way out there. Long waits between sets so bring some cards for some solitare between the sets. When the tide starts to fill in hopefully we'll see some improvement.

Daily Surf Report 7/8/2012

Good morning shadow people...a nice marine layer is keeping things glassy out there right now, no wind to speak of yet. The tide is beginning to bottom out but the south swell is still sending in some fading pulses.

Channel: a big ol' rip and lots of current moving through the middle of the channel, and lots of fisherman trekking out this morning. A few SUPers and surfers are on it, with waves in the knee to wasit to chest high range, mostly the far out left from the groin to the boat ramp. A little sectiony at the low but shoulr improve with water flow.

Patch: Lots of exposed rocks and some waves breaking way way way way out there. A bunch of logjammers, even Carl Jungus, and some SUPers are out making a go of the knee, waist, and maybe slighlty bigger waves, but when the tide starts to fill in hopefully we'll see some improvement.

Daily Surf Report 7/7/2012

Good morning everyone. One could say that there are really only two types of people in the world. Those who are in the water and those who are not. Today may be overcast and foggy BUT the surf is here, so bring everything you ride in the water from hand planes to the log and everything in between. The air temp is currently 55 degress and the water temp is just about the same. We still have low tide conditions but the tide is coming up and the south swell is sticking around. Again, bring any water craft today ('cept Jetski's).

Channel: Sandbars are exposed as we speak. Small waves that are perfectly formed and barrelling on the inside and middle bar closer to the boat ramp and surfable. Knee to thigh high now. Should start to improve with more water by late morning and into the afternoon. Currently about 10 in the water.

Patch: LOG IN THE FOG! Waist to occasional chest high outside the Meeting Rock. This is the call at the moment.

Daily Surf Report - 7/6/2012

Venus and Jupiter are visible in the sky today - according to Phil at the coffee shop.
Overcast, calm and currently 54F. We have had some strong winds lately but we start this morning calm and glassy. Still have very low tide conditions hampering the waves but south swell is sticking around. Going to need a few hours of incoming water to cover up the rocks and sand then start the wave machine again so later today should be more surfable.

Channel: Sandbars are exposing as we speak. Small waves that are perfectly formed and barrelling on the inside and middle bar closer to the boat ramp but becoming un-surfable. Knee to thigh high now. Should start to improve with more water by late morning and into the afternoon. Currently about 6 in the water.

Patch: Still has some white water out by and past the meeting rock. Some surf on the south side of the rock and a bit inside where rocks are starting to show. Should start to be more loggable in a little while as tide fills in. Thigh high + but not consistent. Keep your eye on this spot for later.

Daily Surf Report - 7/5/2012

Good morning! Currently 55F with clear skies and relatively calm winds. Starting to show signs of a South swell in the water. Extremely low tide this morning with lots of sand and rocks exposed. Going to need a few hours of incoming water to cover things up and start the wave machine but signs on the horizon are postive for good conditions later today.

Channel: Sandbars are exposed way out into the ocean. Micro waves that are perfectly hollow and barrelling on the inside and middle bar closer to the boat ramp but not surfable yet except for Sea Squirrels. Should start to improve with more water by late morning and into the afternoon. Currently empty lineup.

Patch: Lines and some white water out by and past the meeting rock. Too low of a tide to work yet but should start to be loggable in a little while as South swells get into the Patch after wrapping around a bit. Keep you eye on this spot for later.

Daily Surf Report - 7/4/2012

Happy Independence day to you all! It's going to be a wonderful day here at the beach what with all of the festivities planned, such as The Bolinas v. Stinson Tug-O'-War (Go Bo!), The parade downtown, food, music and a whole lotta' fun. As for the surfing...well, let's just say that it can always get better. There is currently a pretty stiff on-shore breeze this morning beating up the water surface like the water owes the wind money. If the wind dies down and with the up coming tide you might, M-I-G-H-T get a couple of thigh high rides with the right equipment. Currently it is 56 degrees with it heating up proper a bit later this morning. WE WILL BE CLOSING EARLY TODAY ABOUT 1:00PM! Also: Downtown is now closed to vehicle traffic so keep in mind that you WILL be hiking into town today because of the holiday festivities. Channel: Super-duper small (If you were Stuart Little it would be about head high) with the middle bar waves in the (almost) thigh high size. With this incoming tide it may improve over the next few hours. Let's hope the wind dies down first. About 5 hopeful souls in the water now.

Patch: Too much on-shore wind pushing whatever is trying to emerge...down. Right now it's best on the SUP or kayak, or perhaps something with a sail. We may see some improvement at this location later in the day as tide fills in and again, if the wind dies down. Keep an eye out for evening rights.

Daily Surf Report - 7/3/2012

Spectacular morning here at the beach. The sun is out, the birds are singing in the key of John Coltrane and there is an ever-so-slight breath of air ruffling the surface of the water. The surf conditions are a bit less than spectacular but it is trying. Currently the Channel is the only resource operating at this moment and at a conservative level. The air temp is around 57 degrees. The water temp is around 54 degrees. It's all sunshine and per usual the day will heat up. Small waves continue to be the norm with wave size around thigh high. It's a glorious day for the beach so slather on the sun block, bring a big log or SUP and get to it.

Channel: Small with the middle bar waves in the thigh high size. With this incoming tide it may improve over the next few hours. About 4 in the water now. 3 longboards and an SUP.

Patch: I can hear it grunting from the boat ramp as it's trying to produce something resembling a wave. Occasional ankle rollers right between the Meeting Rock and the Patch proper. Right now it's best on the SUP or kayak. We may see some improvement at this location later in the day as tide fills in. Keep an eye out for evening rights.

Daily Surf Report - 7/2/2012

A wise man once said, "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and again." This morning with an incoming tide and small but glassy waves even Ray Charles would get trimmed on a log.
It's currently overcast, no wind and glassy. The air temp is around 57 degrees and will get warmer as sunshine is expected by mid-morning. Small waves continue to be the norm with wave size ranging from thigh to occasional waist high. Today, think lumberjack as a log is what will work best.

Channel: Smooth, glassy and small. Middle bar waves in the thigh to occasional waits high size. About 10 in the water now. Mostly longboards and a couple of SUP's.

Patch: Flat and glassy like a mid-1970's glass coffee table. Still best on the SUP or kayak. We may see some improvement at this location later in the day as tide fills in. Keep an eye out for evening rights.

Stock sizes in the rack are 5.6, 5.8, 5.10 and 6.0
