Daily Surf Report - 1/31/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“We shall find peace. We shall hear angels. We shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds.” - W. Anton Chekov

Back to beautiful again today.  Sunshine, crispy at 44F but warming nicely.  Some ground fog in the valleys - good for coyotes and rabbits.  No wind, smooth ocean and a less harrowing entrance and exit at this time as well.  Still lots of tidal movement today with extreme highs and low lows but an easing swell not causing as much ramp surf as the past few days.  Small but rideable surf today in both spots and a generally nice beach day for a Friday at the end of January!

CHANNEL:  Sandbars have shifted a bit after all the big swellular activity of the past week.  Still have a left running off the Groin bar but looking like a split peak with rights working as well.  Size up to waist high and the longboarders in the water are wearing smiles and sunscreen on their faces.  Peak high tide pushed back to late morning when it gets fat and will shut down.  Early is the best call today.  Bring a positive attitude and a big board and you will be rewarded with total consciousness.  A couple of Seadrift waves worth exploring on the incoming tide as well.  Venture out of your normal comfort zone and discover something new about yourself today.

PATCH: Working mostly middle to the inside Snags.  Incoming tide will help with some push and extra water to cover up rocks.  SUPs and logs on it alredy and size is thigh high +.  Short and sweet rides but shape is nice and weather is amazing.  Will really soften up at the late morning peak high tide but working now so get on it.

Daily Surf Report - 1/30/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Those who can adapt to change are those who will continue to grow.” - Justin Ramalho

No rain of significance last nite but a damp ground and traveling skunks greet us this morning.  Clearing skies with plenty of blue showing already.  Temp a frisky 52F and no wind.  Glassy ocean and still some NW swell remaining.  Tide still moving in and will peak at 7.0' in 2 hours.  Plenty of water and rocks rolling up and down the ramp so approach with caution or risk personal damage.  A bit more manageable in the ocean today as the peak spacing does allow for rideable waves on a longboard.  Empty lineups now but lower tides may be worth a dip.

CHANNEL:  A rolling peak that is waist high and longboardable today.  Just your everyday left running off the Groin bar but smooth and sparkly like a new crystal.  Entry and exit to the ocean is a bit dicey but use some thought and a bit of skill, mix in some general common sense and you too can be surfing today.  Deeper Channel bar will break - eventually.  Watch for extreme tide swings as after the king tide peak it runs out to a negative.  Over 8' of water moving in 6 hours.  Abide.

PATCH: A few but not many.  Mostly breaking middles and insides when it does.  Very soft with the high tide and diminishing swell.  Thigh high when it does break then mushing out to ankle breakers.  It could work if you are persistent and have a long board.  Check it later when tide starts moving towards the low.

Daily Surf Report - 1/29/2014

Closing early tonight will be open tomorrow morning at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Common sense is not so common." - Voltaire

Good day to all of you sliders and gliders, rippers and trippers! I can't believe it but it looks like it's actually a winter morning here at the beach, so don't let that warmer-than-usual 56 degrees fool you as it's drizzly and such. Visibility is almost nil as the fog is shrouding optimum vista points making assertive triangulation a trifle challenging. Still, there are lines rolling in fatter than John Goodman but the spacing/pulses are all bunched together giving it a sort of wash machine vortex canvas. Couple this with the king tide this morning... well, "less than stellar" is the first thing that comes to mind. Patience will be the operative word today.

CHANNEL: Somewhat like yesterday.... waist to shoulder high, sectioning white water river run. The huge tide and frequency of this swell doesn't necessarily make for good surf. Wait it out, or jump in. It's your call. Three (3) there now looking to be getting more of a lesson/work out than actual surfing.

PATCH: This high tide is making the Patch look like it wants to give but it's not....yet. below waist high gurglers rear up in the center of the Patch then, just as the white frothy head makes it's appearance, the emerald wedge laughs as it returns to the depths from which it once came. Naturally, with the tide shift later today this will once again be *the spot.* The sirens of Odysseus are beckoning to the one, lone surfer who is known to the morning contingent as 'Cookie' as I write this.

Daily Surf Report - 1/28/2014

We will be closing early tonight but will re-open tomorrow at our usual time of 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." - Albert Einstein

Good day to all of you creatures of Briney interests! It's a decidedly overcast day here at the beach with the temperature billowing in at a steady 54 degrees and no wind as of yet. The weather report is still calling for a (very) slight chance of precipitation here in the North bay (about a 1/4 inch...) and we'll take anything we can get. Again, here's hoping.
The tide is extremely high this morning and there is a lot of flotsam circulating in the drink. Now, the sobering part of my missive this 'morn; with this enormous tide, floating debris and pilings from years gone by showing prominently I urge anyone who reads this to USE GOOD JUDGEMENT! Put your ego aside. Even though there are lines developing thinker than Martin Scorsese's eye brows, nothing is really breaking. I really don't care if you drove all the way from Nebraska... conditions like today require quite a bit more waterman skills than the weekend warrior abilities that are prevalent here today do not possess. Besides, those of us with the water skills wouldn't go into this muck. DO NOT drive into the parking lot, get out of your yellow Exterra sporting a 'No Fear' sweat shirt and begin to suit up and then run for the boat ramp. No. Calmly walk down to the sea wall and STUDY the surf for at least 10 minutes (15/20 minutes is better) BEFORE you don the rubber and go out pretending to be Smelly Skater. Just saying...

CHANNEL: As stated above, thick lines are rolling in BUT nothing is really breaking clean. Chest high white water is making it look more like Snake River than the Channel. Unless you're Evil Kenivel (look it up) and you're planning on jumping the Channel on your star-spangled Harley, I'd suggest to wait for the tide change. Two (2) short boarders who came in at the Sea Drift side are not really surfing but just fighting to stay in position. Enjoy your salt water milkshakes, fellas.

PATCH: Big lines, no waves. Later with the tide change this could be the spot. Right now it's just a dangerous walk across unburied pilings and such that I haven't seen in years coupled with huge shore pounders that are igniting well over the walls! One (1) humanoid attempting to make the trek. Good luck.

Daily Surf Report - 1/27/2014

We will be closing early tonight, however we will open tomorrow morning at our usual time of 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back." - Arthur Rubinstein

Good Morning to all people of watery hopes and dreams! It's 50 degrees here in our little beach hamlet with overcast skies and no wind thus far. Predictions are calling for a 10/20% chance of rain fall this evening-through-tomorrow... here's hoping! The vibe in the water and parking lot harken back to that Mama's & Papa's tune, "Monday, Monday" as attendance today can be best described as sparse. I guess there are people out there that actually DO have jobs! There is still a bit of a bump in the ocean, so if you have the time, we have the surf.

CHANNEL: Waist-to-chest high yet again, HOWEVER it's looking a bit unorganized and section-y all over. The tide has already shifted gears and is now on it's way out and that means the lagoon is draining faster than the bank account of a Gambler's Anonymous dropout in Vegas. You could give it a try but if you don't have very good ocean knowledge and not what one would describe as a good paddler.... well, I hear that the Farallon Islands are beautiful this time of year. No one at the Channel as I write this.

PATCH: Waist (+/-) over the very middle of the Patch. No outside. No Snags. No Green/Africa et al. What does saunter along through here though is a pretty little emerald that can go right and/or left depending on it's mood. Eight (8) of the regular and irregular retiree's on logs and janitor equipment doing what they do.

Daily Surf Report - 1/26/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Life is a series of collisions with the future, it is not the sum of what we have been, but what we yearn to be." - Jose Ortega y Gasset

Good Morning to you denizens of the sea. It's a beautiful Sunday morning here at the beach with the sun playing a little hide-and-seek and the temperature slinking in at 50 degrees. It's going to warm up yet again, so wear your sun block today kids. The surf is still hanging around town and, being a Sunday  I'd like to quote a verse from "The Book".... it reads in Machado 4:20, "Surf from the heart and don't be a donkey and snake another for one's own benefit." All spots are breaking and there are all sorts of craft upon the water, so keep your eyes open, your head on a swivel and PLEASE use good judgement. If something looks like it could harsh your buzz, just dial; 1-800-LET-IT-GO and continue to enjoy life.

CHANNEL: Waist-to-chest high on the middle bar. A bit of a slumbering, lumbering peak but a peak none-the-less. Only about six (6) on this (?) but the parking lot is full of hopefuls, veterans, newbies, wannabe's, misanthropes and knuckle draggers who have driven in from Oxbutt, Where-ever and are plying the neoprene and will be in the H2O shortly. Play nice!

PATCH: Waist-to-chest right over the middle of the Clam Patch and a bit of action at the Snags. It's pretty glassy and not as jumble-y and drunk as it has been the past few days. Thirty plus (30+) on janitor boards, butt skis and logs vying for that ultimate glide.

Daily Surf Report - 1/25/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“One kind word can warm three winter months.” - Japanese Proverb

Post Mavericks Expression Session on today with all the Pro Loopers in town.  Still showing large and long on the buoys and fairly macking in town again today.  Big swell with lots of water, sunny weather and tons of people.  A Cluster-cuss in the making for sure.  Still lumpy and bumpy with plenty of waves to ride.  Spots that usually break are breaking.  Spots that sometimes break are breaking.  Spots that don't break are breaking here in Bolinas today as there is lots of water moving around - I dare say gallons.  Remember to show respect, kindness and love today.  We are all visitors to the ocean and on this planet for just fleeting moments in time.  All we have in this world is our word and our crystals.  Keep them close and sacred and never break them for anyone.  52F with light offshore winds.  Beautiful beach day.  Stay in your element and don't end up like Donny.

CHANNEL:  Again there are peaks a plenty all over the area.  Tide is heading out and may clean things up a bit.  Sandbars have shifted due to all the water moving around but there are some good ones to ride.  Size again is ranging from waist to head and above depending on where you surf.  Grab whatever board you like getting whomped on as most waves have a good drop and run but not too many turns today as sections are everywhere.  Still lots of fun to have some juice in the water.  Look both ways as there will be many people in the water from amateur to professional today.  About 100+ in the water. Charge it!

PATCH: Outgoing tide helping with the outside waves and things starting to shape up and clean up.  Still bumpy, lumpy and jumbled but if you can nurse some of the middle sections there are long rides to be enjoyed.  Lots of waves in non-traditional areas and size is waist up to head high.  A bit of a roller coaster ride.  Not Giant Dipper style but more like the Hurricane.  Dips and drops and flat sections to navigate.  Still plenty to ride and all eggs and longboards will work.  About 50+ in the water.  Hang loose!

Thank You!

Daily Surf Report - 1/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Greatness lies, not in being strong, but in the right using of strength; and strength is not used rightly when it serves only to carry a man above his fellows for his own solitary glory. He is the greatest whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own.” - Henry Ward Beecher

Feeling it today.  Crystal powered, large an in charge WNW swell has arrived.  The Mavericks/Channel/Patch Showdown is in full swing with all competitors suiting up and frothing for their heats to begin.  This is not amateur stuff as only the best and bravest will defy death to achieve glory today in Bolinas.  Slightly hazy with sun on the way.  43F with offshore winds to keep it real.  Lots of water moving around and peaks spread out from here to Timbuktu!  Know your limits.  Find your limits.  Reach your limits.  Exceed your limits - but be careful about it.  The crystals can only serve to protect you if you are a true believer.

CHANNEL:  Right out in front of the boat ramp and all the way across to Seadrift there is surf and waves to ride.  A bit mean and not to clean as Bolinas doesn't handle this size NW swell exceptionally well.  Find a peak and sit on it.  You will get rides today.  Size is ranging from waist to head and above depending on where you surf.  Tides are good today and swell will stay through the weekend like a welcome guest.  Peak is today with things calming down through Sunday.  Recommended Board of the Swell is anything you have that you like to ride.  About 20+ in the water spread out to keep the calamity to a minimum.

PATCH: Lumpy and bumpy but delivering waves none the less.  All kinds of peaks a popping from the graffiti wall all the way over to the Patch proper.  Plenty of surfers in the water and plenty of surfers on the way trying to determine the optimal time and peak to shred.  A bit overloaded due to swell size but should calm down and clean up over time.  Size is a range from waist up to shoulder.  Still sectioning but rideable and longboards will get a good ride today.  Tides remain respectable today.  About 12 spread out here now.

Daily Surf Report - 1/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Got those crystals organized and aligned for greatness.  If you don't believe in their power now is the time to get on board.  New hefty WNW swell getting ready to appear.  Has pounded Hawaii and will get Mavericks working tomorrow for all you chargers out there.  Not helping much for the rain but that may require a different rock approach.  As for today we have sunshine, offshore winds and warm temps on tap - what would you expect in January.  Currently it is 47F and beautiful - again a perfect January beach day.  Last swell is easing back but still delivering rideable waves today.  Should be on and good through the weekend for both waves and weather.  Tides cooperative as well with not so severe swings over the next few days.

CHANNEL:  Thigh to almost waist high surf on tap today.  Mostly lefts across the Channel bar.  Clean and holding form and perfect for the longboard of your choice.  Possible potential over at Seadrift but the outgoing tide may be putting a clamp on it today.  Worth a peek if you are in the vicinity. Only 3 in the water so join the fun.

PATCH: Still joining the swell party with thigh to waist high waves popping.  A bit sectioned and lumpy but enough juice for the log enthusiast.  Meeting rock area and middles working best and the inside Snags will rear up and throw down as well.  Water is draining out a bit so watch for boils and exposing rocks into the late morning.   About 10 spread out here today.
