Daily Surf Report - 1/31/2011

Fog has burned off as of noon today.

Closing at 3:00 pm.

Happy last day of January!

The winds are slight and out of the NW. As of 9:30 this morning we are surrounded by fog. It looks as though it should burn off by the afternoon, but there is no telling. We'll see how the day shapes up.

There is a little surf out there. The ocean surface is pretty bumpy but it is shaping up in both spots. The waves are breaking on the boat ramp due to the high tide. The tides today are pretty dramatic going from a very high tide to a negative.

In the channel it is apx. waist high, not real clean, but rideable. There are a hand full of surfers out there, mostly longboarders.

The patch is smaller with about knee, to thigh high waves rolling in. There are two guys out there along with a paddle board.

Daily Surf Report - 1/30/2011

As of 12:00 pm:

Conditions haven't really improved, the channel isn't really working. There are about 12 guys out in front of the groin, with the occasional waist high wave rolling through.

The patch isn't working there is no one out there.

Looks like the best place to be is in front of the boat ramp. It's not very organized, but there are some rideable lefts and rights, again in the wist high range.

Drizzling, not too much wind.

Planning to close today at apx 2:00pm, as there isn't much happening with the surf and business is very slow.

Good Morning.

This morning, believe it or not, the sun is actually shining here in Bolinas. I don't know how long it will last, as we are completely surrounded with grey drizzly skies. The winds are slight and out of the NW. It seems as though the grey rainy weather is making it's way this way. We'll see how the day shapes up.

There is a little surf out there. The ocean surface is pretty bumpy but it is shaping up in both spots.

In the channel it is apx. waist high, not real clean, but rideable. There are about ten guys out, mostly longboarder's.

The patch is smaller with about knee, to thigh high waves rolling in. There are two guys out on kayaks.

Hours are weather pending today, so feel free to call and check before you come out. I will update later.

Daily Surf Report - 1/29/2011

As of 1:00pm - Overcast and drizzle are winning the weather battle. There are still waves to be had and plenty of skunks on the roads.

Partial overcast conditions with periodic sun peeking through the fog on the mountain tops. No wind and a mild temp of 52F. Lots of skunks out and about on the roads so be careful. Ocean surface is still smooth and has some energy. Swell has a bit more W in it today.

Channel/Groin: Inside and outside lefts breaking on the sandbars. Deep in the Channel size is waist to chest high and everyone is on longboards. The inner bar at the Groin is waist high + and shorter boards will work here. Seadrift still delivering a consistent right as well. Rode the Vernor 6.0 Mini-Simmons today. Still the fastest, funnest board I have ever ridden. Available to demo by appointment and will be on the rack in 3 sizes in spring.

Patch: Breaking in the knee to thigh high size and rideable. Longboards and SUPs out catching fun, little rights that are very smooth. Will change with the tide but right now is working.

Partially overcast and foggy conditions this morning with patches of clear sky. Temp is 50F and windless with highs predicted for the low 60s. Ocean surface is smooth and still has some energy going. Swell from the N/NW.

Channel/Groin: Still have lefts breaking on both the inner and outer bars. Size has dropped a bit but waves are waist high on the inner bar and a tad bigger when the outside bar hits. Mid lengths and shorter boards can ride the inside left. Rode Terri's 8.0 Egg on the Groin left and caught lots of workable, fun waves. Plenty to catch out there. Seadrift still has a good, consistent right working.

Patch: Breaking in the knee to thigh high size and rideable. Longboards and SUPs out catching fun, little rights that are very smooth. Will change with the tide.

Fantastic morning today with warm off-shore winds and a current temp of 54F. Look for highs to reach 70F today. Sun is shining bright and the ocean is showing signs of life again as another long period swell arrives.

Channel/Groin: Lefts breaking on both the inner and outer bars. Surf is consistent and chest high outside and a bit smaller inside. Waves are smooth, fast and fun and shorter boards can ride the inside left which has a nice corner and good energy. Occasional right on the Seadrift side that holds up a bit. Mostly longer boards in the water with 10 surfers currently out.

Patch: Breaking in the knee the thigh high size and possibly rideable. No one in the water at this spot currently. May improve as tide swings around and will update later if it gets much better.

Patch is consistently breaking in the waist to chest high range.
Looks really fun. There are about ten guys out.

Channel consistently breaking in the chest to shoulder high range. About 12 guys out.

Jan 3 2011

The sun is out and burning off the last of the fog, should be a nice day with a high of 53 and little wind.

There are consistent sets coming through, approximately waist high at the patch. Currently, due to a high tide I am unable to give a report on the channel/groin but will update when the tide drops. Lots of people out with their longboards and SUPs today.

UPDATE:2:20pm

The tide is dropping out and the waves have decreased in size at the patch to knee/hip high.

Channel/Groin: Sets breaking knee/hip high, shallow due to low tide.

Daily Surf Report - 1/2/2011

Good morning.

It's a pretty nice morning, a little stormy looking, with the sun poking out here and there. The winds are slight, and off shore.

There is definitely a pulse in the water, with waves breaking outside both spots every now and again. The high tide is mushing it up and it's not quite forming most of the time, but with the outgoing tide, conditions should improve.

There are four guys out in the channel not having much luck at this point.
Waves are in the shoulder high range when breaking. With the occasional outside head high set.

The patch has waves breaking outside, every once in a while, in the shoulder high range and more consistantly on the inside, in the waist high range. No one out there yet.

Again pretty disorganized and mushy at this point but should improve as water levels adjust. Come on out and surf.

As of 12:30 pm winds are variable and have picked up some. The surf has come down in size in accordance with the outgoing tide.

Channel is waist high at best.
Patch not really working but there are several people having fun catching waist high waves right in front of the boat ramp.

Daily Surf Report - 1/1/2011

Happy New Year!

We are open today so come out and start 2011 off right with a surf. Currently not raining but overcast with light, variable winds and a temp of 45F. Rain is expected on and off. Overnight storm has kicked up some surf in town.

Groin has some inside rights in the almost waist high size. Breaking at Mali-Bo today. Channel has outside lefts off the deeper sandbar in the waist to chest high range. Ocean surface is relatively smooth. Mary and Pete are suiting up. Tide is very high and waves are breaking on the boat ramp.

Patch dis-organized but shows some pieces and parts of surf and you can paddle around on a longboard and find a few waves. Looks to be thigh to waist high and no one is out at this time.

Outgoing tide could improve conditions and I will update later.
