Daily Surf Report - 11/30/2013

12:30 pm UPDATE: YES to SUNSHINE

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Getting what you want is not nearly as important as giving what you have.” - Tom Krause

Overcast morning with fog on the deck - keeping the winds at bay and things classy glassy.  Temp in at 50F and hoping for sun by late morning.  Sliver moonbeams will penetrate your skull and guide you into the unknown.  Have low expectations and reap high rewards today.  Almost time to recharge them crystals.  Put one in your pocket for good luck and another under your tongue to keep your Shaka-RA aligned.  Find your limits.  Push your limits.  Go beyond your limits today - at least 1/2 cross step further.  Seek boundaries and peek around.  There are endless possibilities to explore.  Dropping swell and also less people makes for a good mix.  Tide is a rising and has just peaked.  Up the ramp and on the wall.  Outgoing could clean and improve.  Bring longboards today and score waves.

CHANNEL: Reality vs. Perception collide as glassy peaks wall up and want to break.  Some do and some will roll on by.  Soft and cozy waves that look waist high but are really knee to thigh.  If you hook one up stay forward and get some ramming speed as they tend to mush out with the high water levels.  There are still waves to ride and the tide change will help later this morning.  Grab your log for maximum enjoyment and relish the end of a long holiday weekend.

PATCH: Yes and no as peaks pop up but lack the energy.  Some can be ridden and some are illusions.  Have lots of foam and length on your board today and you will find the wave of your dreams.  Plenty of water to keep this spot on your radar today and take the tour of the area as the inside, mid-way and outside all have potential if not power.  Gonna get low low this afternoon so mind your toes and fins amongst the rocks.  Fill your cup and drink from it today.  It is always at least 1/2 full.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't be afraid to be amazing.”- Andy Offutt Irwin

Welcome back from your food coma.  Time to put that damp wetsuit back on and get surfing.  Fall swell continues to deliver and things are much more user friendly today.  The weather is magnificent and there is much to be thankful for.  Lots of fantastic foxes intermingling with other species today and all are in the water catching waves.  Wave size has backed down but is consistently waist high up to shoulder.  Hide tide just peaked and is heading low so entrance and exits are a bit easier today.  If you haven't met the seawall yet he is not your friend.  He wants your board to munch on.  He wants your turkey sandwich for lunch as well.  Take it slow and easy today and catch lots of waves.  Currently fully sunny and 48F with off-shore light winds and high pressure keeping things warm and dry.  Put the Pendleton on now - put the t-shirt on later.

CHANNEL: Glassy rollers that are cleaned up from yesterday as the swell has backed down but still remains in the water.  There is still and N and S combo which has some waves mixed up on confused but there are still plenty that connect and more makeable sections exist.  Grab your furry friends, if they are not already in the water, and make your way to the beach today.  Size runs waist to should and most boards will work today.

PATCH: Peaks a plenty on this crystal clear morning.  It is up and over the wall to access the beach but don't be deterred as there are rideable waves for your longboard today.  Wave height is waist to chest high and the water levels are up and good.  Inside, mid-way and outside have something worth paddling for.  If you didn't get enough yesterday come back for seconds and thirds today.

Daily Surf Report - 11/28/2013

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.  ENJOY THE DAY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
THE SHOP WILL BE CLOSED TODAY AND RE-OPEN ON FRIDAY.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Thanksgiving Day is a jewel to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day and leave out the gratitude." - E.P. Powell

Follow the crystal turkey as you seek nirvana on this glorious day for giving thanks.  Be thankful for family, friends and health.  Be thankful for the surf being delivered to us as well.  Frisky foxes and flattened skunks litter the ground today.  Watch out turkey you're on the menu for later.  Keep it real and keep it gracious today as we have 2 swells competing for you attention this morning.  Lean, mean, not too clean and bit obscene as well with a littered line up of cranberries and walnuts.  Lump, bumpy, jumpy swell like grand-mamas mashed potatoes.  A little bit for everyone today and if you can paddle you will get waves.  Hide tide keeping it interesting for entrance and exits and plenty of people are showing us what not to do on the boat ramp.  Full fledged sunshine and 64F - yes on Thanksgiving.  Winds are off-shore as well.

CHANNEL: Mind the sea wall on both side and throw your cares away today as we finally have a juicy Fall swell upon us.  Bars are set and firm.  Swell coming from a couple of angles making things somewhat frustrating to line up the really good ones.  Lots of drops and makes and a bunch of swing and misses as well.  Size goes from a 10 lb game hen up to a 30 lb big boy Tom.  Feast now and gorge later.  Put your best suit on and get wet.

PATCH: A swirling mass of humanity today with lots of human powered watercraft upon the seas.  Discombobulated but has size and energy so find something that connects and go ride it.  Super sized succotash are out there for the enjoyment.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Good morning to all of you sliders and gliders of the brine. It's a bee-u-tee-ful morning here at the beach. The temperature is a hardy 52 degrees, the sun is showing off it's golden plumes as there is just a kiss of an off-shore breeze and the birds are out singing in the key of Eva Cassidy. Even the waves are making an early appearance this 'morn. Stop messing around with your computer/smart phone and get rubbered up and slide your cares away.

CHANNEL: Waist (+/-) rollers slapping the middle bar, Groin Pole and even Sea Drift up-side it's head. It's all fun and no filler. Sure, not all of these little emerald gems are peeling like a ripe banana but enough are to have a great way to start your day as the ten (10) or so log enthusiasts and scattered janitorial crew will attest.

PATCH: Just-under-knee high smoldering over the inside/middle of the Clam Patch. Not a lot of push yet, but with this tide swing perhaps later we'll see some Floyd Mayweather Jr. punch. No takers as of this writing.

NOTE: We will be closed tomorrow, Thursday the 28Th for Thanksgiving. We will re-open Friday the 29Th at our usual time of 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little." - George Carlin

Good morning to all of you enthusiasts of watery dreams and salty realities. It's another chilly morning here at the beach as the temperature is an autumn standard bearer at 49 degrees, but the sun is up displaying it's golden toothed grin and the birds are singing in the key of Curtis Mayfield as the ocean is taking the morning off. Great day to tour on an SUP or lay-down paddle board. If changing events do occur we will report it here at our earliest convenience.

CHANNEL: Below knee high slurpers lapping onto the shore. The only action here right now is that the lagoon is beginning to drain. No one here but a few water foul.

PATCH: Not even. One (1) young guy on the graffiti wall, still in his sleeping bag strumming a guitar and caterwauling on...probably about how rock and roll has ruined his life.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality." - Albert Einstein

Good morning to all of you neoprene clad wave warriors! It's a beautiful, sunny autumn morning here at the beach. The temperature is coming in at a brisk 46 degrees and not a morsel of wind (yet) to speak of. The birds are out singing in the key of Etta James and it is Windex glassy out on the H2O. Not a whole lot to write about wave wise but there is a little bump in the brine. Big boards will bring big smiles today.

CHANNEL: The lagoon is draining making the shape of the knee high crumbler slow and section-y. There is a nice and clean little right yawning empty way over on the Sea Drift side with no takers thus far. If you like to glide on a log or own a janitor board w/ broom I say slap on the rubber and get to spankin' the plank. Six (6) on longboards and custodial gear making the most of a glorious morning.

PATCH: It's pretty and it's also pretty flat. Not enough push for the proverbial tush here today.

Daily Surf Report - 11/24/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“You've got to have a dream, if you want to have a dream come true.” - Dennis Waitley

It's a Mr. Rogers type of day with wonderfulness prevailing over the area.  Chill and crisp earlier and now up to 47F.  Full on sunshine and clear skies today.  Breathe in the salt air and some paint fumes as well as repair projects continue.  Rejoice in the vitamin E from the sun and find your happy place at the beach today.  Not so phenomenal for surfing but the ocean is inviting, small and calm with ankle lappers appearing like visions on the horizon.  The day is what you make of it so get outside and fulfill you dreams.

CHANNEL: A crew out on the blue today with SUPs and longboards acting as a floating pontoon for some type of ocean borne activity.  Some may call it paddling.  Some may call it surfing.  I call it beautiful to see and the ocean is calling your name.  Ankle to knee at best and only on the deeper Channel bar.  Mid tides all day and only small wind swell to give your hopes encouragement.

PATCH: Move along as there is NOTHING to see here.  Flatness today with the semi-occasional calf crunching, ankle munching, triple-over toe wave running through the area.  Canoes are welcome as are your condolences for what was once a surf spot is currently muerto my friends.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Beauty is a feeling inspired by something more important than yourself." - Aynonoms

Lets try to keep it clean and classy on this not so glassy morning. The solar systems have stopped spinning and no one is grinning due to the lack of surfular energy moving in to our beach today. Its a pancake makeable no surf shakable day today with a brisk 54*f air temp.

CHANNEL: The wind is our friends, it is what creates surf and ultimately, our enjoyment. But today the wind is being nothing less than mean and blowing right in our faces. Its on shore and flowing like lava destroying our dreams. In seeing white caps at 3 - 4 inches and not much else. No homies are hanging yet.

PATCH: Follow me into the sunset and don't look back, you will see nothing. We will ride the wind in my 10' Boston Whaler out to sea and find some surf. (fits 57 comfortably) The patch is as flat as the horizon but not as far.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.” - Confucius

Overnight visit from the wicked witch of the West with blustery, gustery winds all night that continue currently.  Plenty of road debris to watch for including tree limbs, roof tiles, leaves, patio furniture and anything else not tied down or secured.  Winds are now mostly from the East which can groom things up but are so strong at this time that the whole ocean is white capped and ruined.  Temps are warm at 60F and the day is sunny and clear.  Really not a surf day.  A good day to get sand in your face, eyes and mouth.  A day good for NOTHING except clean up and repairs.  We will most likely be operating on limited to zero hours today as conditions warrant.  Once things calm down there could be a few waves to ride but that remains to be seen and will most likely occur tomorrow.

CHANNEL: Batten down the hatches and prepare for ramming speed.  Full on Victory At Sea.  Even the usual wall watchers are hunkered down and not visible today.  Sideways waves best suited for NOTHING.

PATCH: Not as torn and ripped to shreds as the Channel but white capped as well and un-surfable currently.   Best viewed via submarine.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Scatter confetti over the floor, sweep an old year out the door!” - Myra Conn Livingston

Old with the old and in with the new as a new decade begins for someone special.  Dr. Science, LR, wants to pass on some important tidal info to all of those denizens of the sea:
Since antiquity, people have noticed that oceans exhibit a much greater tidal range around the time of the full Moon and new Moon. Higher tides occur during these Moon phases because the Sun also exerts a gravitational pull on our oceans, although it is only 46 percent as strong as the Moon's.  When the gravitational effects of the Sun and the Moon combine, we get spring tides, which have nothing to do with the season of spring. The term refers to the action of the seas springing out and then springing back. These are times of high high tides and low low tides.  A week later, during either of the two quarter Moon phases, when the Sun and Moon are at right angles to each other and their tidal influences partially cancel each other out, neap tides occur, and the tidal range is minimal. In fact, because the oceans take a bit of time to catch up to the geometry of the Moon, spring and neap tides usually occur about a day after the respective lunar cycles.  Today we have neap tides and clearing skies as well. No rain and no wind either.  A temp of 50F and a smooth ocean surf with small but shapely peaks to ride.  Not as kicked up or juicy as we had hoped but definitely a surf day if you can make it to the beach.

CHANNEL: Smoothness prevails with pop up peaks in the thigh high size are rolling through this area.  Surfers and SUPs rejoice in the undulating warbles that are rideable and glassy today.  The calm after the storm.  No wind and a few fun ones to be had on a longboard today.  Neap tides galore so water levels are fine all day.

PATCH: Flat but smooth.  Did not see anything worth reporting positively on except the sighting of 1 seal, 4 birds and no humans of note.  Just localized windswell today so not enough to get the Patch working.

Good morning children of the sea. Today is reminiscent of that wonderful Irma Thomas tune, "It's Raining" (look it up. It's a great one). Even at 55 degrees it's drizzly and foggy and dripping with disappointment. Victory at Sea conditions, coupled with a soon-to-be-hitting high tide and lack of a swell are making it both Stanky and Janky. Fear not, as this is promised to pass by late tonight, so lets hope that by the end of the week we're all sliding and gliding with huge smiles pasted onto our faces. Until then, maybe it's a good day to get to that laundry.

Good morning to all of you dreamers of liquid corduroy. It's definitely becoming fall here in our little beach community as the clouds are gathering and the rain is imminent. It's currently 54 degrees and it's not really going to get too much warmer. The swell is also staying away as it's choppy and flat this morning. If a change does indeed occur we will most definitely report it here post haste.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.” -George Washington

Good morning to all of you sliders and riders of the liquid salt realities! It's another glorious autumn day here at the beach. The sun is up, the birds are singing in the key of Bessie Smith and hardly a breath of wind to be found as the temperature is a cool and crisp 46 degrees. This can only be summed up from the title of the only comedy ever penned by Tennessee Williams, "Ah, Wilderness!" However, the wonderment of an increasing tide is upon our little 'surfdom' and without a hint of a swell we ALL know what this means... perhaps later, with a dropping tide and a little luck something peak-y and undulating will transpire. Keep you eyes peeled on this blog for future updates.

CHANNEL:  Occasionally an ankle high roller comes along but doesn't break then immediately sinks back into the murky depths of the Channel. Perhaps later with the tide turn-around but when that happens watch out for that draining lagoon! One (1) Custodian out polishing that turd.

PATCH:  With this high tide and no real swell push the Patch is doing the Jimmy Hoffa right now. Only the Pelican was spotted on his fleet janitorial craft passing this spot on his way to give Duxbury Reef a good wax & buff.
