Daily Surf Report - 11/30/2011

December is Almost Here,
And the conditions are looking really nice right now. We can all hope that this peak period of our winter delivers fun surf and pleasant conditions. That's what it is out there right now: "pleasant." About 63 degrees, sunny, light offshores, with clean little lines coming through the channel breaking on the outside about waiste high. Better get on it before later today though, because I know for sure that the wind is gonna blow. Pleasant can pass~

Channel: Clean, slow grinders, about waist high, no sections, no crowd (3)

Patch: Ankle at best.

Daily Surf Report - 11/29/2011

Foggy Doggy,

I couldn't barely see it through the thick fog blanket.
If the tide is right, it could be around waist high, the channel has been looking fun lately. About 55 degrees, thick fog, no wind, no rain, no problems.

Channel: Visualize thigh high fast sections off the outer bar on an incoming tide.

Patch: Probably scattered little peaks.

Daily Surf Report - 11/27/2011

Well the holiday weekend comes to an end and like the picked over turkey carcass and dwindling leftovers the swell is diminishing as well. Glide and trim, trim and glide and some easy breezy soft rollers are out there.
BUT just when you thought your turkey sandwich was going to be dry and tasteless, you find a bit of cranberry at the back of the fridge and spice things up a bit. The sandbars are set and firm and when the swell hits just right there are a few gems that come through with a nice face that holds up to the inside.
Basically, today beats sitting at home staring at your relatives for another day and you can watch football tonite.

53F and light E winds. Clear skies and a nice start to the day.

Channel: Small waves that are averaging thigh high with a few waist high + when the direction is good. Fun to cruise and smiling faces in the water.
Tide filling in so Groin working a bit as well.

Patch: Still rideable and thigh high in size. Lots of SUPs and longboards in the water enjoying the rides. Tide filling in keeps it working.

Daily Surf Report - 11/26/2011

Man, it doesn't get much nicer than this for a fall morning.
Pack a turkey sandwich and come on out to the beach. It is a beautiful morning and promises to be a great day in Bolinas. Sunny, blue skies with a few streaks of clouds. Windless but a crisp air temp of 43F. Ocean still smooth and waves to be ridden are still around.

Channel: Has dropped since yesterday but still rideable. Longboards are the call and the surf is in the waist high range. Lots of tide fillng in again so it will soften up in the late morning then improve on the outgoing in the afternoon. Still plenty of fun lefts to be had.

Patch: Looks to have picked up a bit with some outside lines showing. Bits of surf working outside where there are a few SUPs, midway and inside as well with the higher tide. Longboarders taking advantage of the inner waves and they are waist high in size and rideable.

Daily Surf Report - 11/25/2011

Wake up from your tryptophan induced coma and get out of bed. It is a surfing and shopping day today in case you haven't heard. Lots of tidal swings this time of year so be prepared for shorepound on the seawall and up the boat ramp through the late morning - good for getting you and your board smashed to bits. Then a big negative tide drop in the evening - good for rock and shell picking and treasure hunting on the exposed areas.

Patchy overcast and misty/moist air. No rain, temp 52F and light winds from the S/SW. Ocean can be smooth at times and the swell in the water from the North is packing a little energy.

Channel: Shortboardable / fish-able in the Channel on the deeper bar. When it hits right, there are lefts almost shoulder high and rights to be had as well. Inner Groin bar is a bit softer with the filling tide but definitely longboardable and waist high + with long lefts to be ridden.

Patch: Working again and waist high waves are pushing through. High tide letting water in and there are longboards, kayaks and SUPs catching mostly rights.

Daily Surf Report - 11/23/2011

Oh Crap,

It is onshore and small again. The wind Chop might even be bigger than the swell in the water. When we get a bad run of surf, after a while... we can't help but ask "why?" - "why are we to be denied this thing we love so much??? WHY?" Well... maybe the universe is telling us that we need to be somewhere else, doing other things. I feel very much that cooking for loved ones might stoke us out more than blown out ankle high waves. The universe makes sense.

Channel: Change the Channel, max max high tide right now, almost 7 ft!
Patch: Blown patch, not breaking

Good News: those that are die hard and HAVE to surf, you should go bodysurf the inside shorepound~ it is clean enough and usually stays small and dumpy, fun - no matter what!

If you are looking for a great gift for a loved one or yourself then check our board rack. We just re-stocked with 15 new boards this week. Also, hooded wetsuits, booties and gloves are fully stocked so now is a great time to shop for the holidays.

Daily Surf Report - 11/22/2011

Tuesday,

It's a good thing there isn't too much surf out there today ~ now you can get your pre-holiday jobs done, like stuffing and ding repair.
BTW~ the wind is onshore and the waves are flat. Cloudy skies, 55 degrees.
Nobody in the water.

Channel: It looks like a day of rest for the lagoon mouth today.

Patch: ZZzzzz

Daily Surf Report - 11/20/2011

1:15pm Update:

Some clearing, more wind, out of the SE. Waves are smaller, with the lower tide. Unfortunately not much cleaner. But there are still some little rides to be had. Channel thigh high, scattered. Patch is still flat.

Will probably be closing around 4pm.

Good Morning,

Well, needless to say, it is raining. There is some surf, and surprisingly, not too much wind, at this point.

The surf is stormy however, with kinda shorter, lot's of times mushy, scattered peaks popping up all over.

No taker's yet...

It's a storm, so conditions can, and probably will, change. I'll keep you posted should things improve... If it doesn't get totally blown out it could clean up with the lower tide.

Channel: At least waist high peaks. There are some fun, wild little rides to be had out there for the adventurous surfer.

Patch: Knee high, at best, breaking, not very cleanly, on the inside.

Daily Surf Report - 11/19/2011

9:30 am Update:
Improving surf conditions with outgoing tide. Shortboardable in the Channel with size in waist / chest / shoulder on the sets. Lots of people in the water at both spots. Full on sunshine and nice weather. Fun surf day.

Blue skies with sun coming up over the Marin hills. Very light offshore breeze. Chilly air with a current temp is 37F - hello Fall. Steep NW swell giving us a few waves to ride.

Channel: Thigh to waist high waves breaking in the Channel. More consistent than earlier in the week and the lefts are lining up a bit for some longer rides. About 10 in the water with more suiting up. Longboards working best but a few shorter boards on the inner Groin bar.

Patch: Knee to thigh high rights breaking about midway out. An improvement from earlier in the week. Small and soft but good for big logs and beginners. 3 surfers, 1 kayak and an SUP out.

Daily Surf Report - 11/18/2011

Overnite rain now giving way to patchy blue skies. Calm wind and a smooth ocean. Current temp is 51F. NW windswell giving us a bit more to ride today. Still small but waves but not so much imagination required to get wet.

Channel: Thigh high waves breaking in the Channel. A bit intermittent but eventually nice smooth lefts roll through. A few in the water and a few suiting up. Longboards only today.

Patch: Knee high rights breaking about midway out. An improvement from earlier in the week. Small and soft but good for big logs and beginners.

Great day to spend at the beach either taking a walk or maybe a paddle or swim. Not so much for surfing as the waves continue to remain small.

Daily Surf Report - 11/15/2011

Update:
Fog cleared a little while ago, and ankle to knee high waves are showing at the channel. Nothing at the patch.

ALSO: 2mile surf will be closing early today at 4:00 pm !

Sunny Fogbank?

I could hardly see the waves. I am imagining knee high peelers at the channel. I saw some normal micro shorebreak indicating such.
In town it is actually sunny, so I know it should clear up really soon. I will return with an update later.

Channel: Knee to thigh?

Patch: Probably flat like it has been.....

Daily Surf Report - 11/14/2011

Good Morning.

There should be no shame in loving small waves.
If you have the right board, and know how to throw you weight around, small waves can be really challenging and can provide tons of speed.
If you are all about Bolinas, and are all about Big Waves, you might have a conflict of interests.

Checking the surf this morning, I saw a really clean little thigh high wave peel through the Groin middle section. The winds were light offshore, and this wave had long little face on it. Yes, noseriding is a challenging part of small wave riding, even more challenging on a big wave.
62 deg, Light offshore, Sunny ~

Channel: Thigh high waves breaking, pretty cleanly, in the channel and on the seadrift side. Soft, due to the higher tide but definitely rideable.
Should improve with a little less water later this afternoon.

Patch: Currently flat.

Some surf rolling in, nothing great, but looks fun and a great day for beginners. The tide is rising until 12 pm so bring a long board as the waves are soft.

About 6 people out.

Daily Surf Report - 11/12/2011

The calm after the storm. Clear skies and calm winds. Patches of sunshine as well. Temp is 54F with predicted clear weather for today.

Ocean has calmed down and cleaned up with rideable surf in both spots. Incoming tide is softening things up but could get better later in the day when tide starts to drain.

Channel: Clean waist high + waves breaking on both Channel and Groin bars. Longboards are the call with the higher tide making things a bit soft at the moment. Could get shortboardable later when tide goes out. Consistent waves with some long rides to be had. About 12 surfers in the water.

Patch: Soft high tide waves in the thigh to waist high size. Logs and SUPs in the water catching rides. A bit shifty but rideable.

Daily Surf Report - 11/11/2011

12:00 pm Update:
Still have rain and wind making conditons unsettled at best. Also 5.9' high tide starting to drain. Shop has a mouse and extreme measures are underway to elimintate.

Happy Veteran's Day. Take a moment to honor the millions of men and women who have served or are serving in the nation's armed forces.

Lucky number day that only comes around once. We will give away free wax today at 11:11am !

Early morning east winds have given way to rain and south winds. Decent amount of swell activitiy in the water but may get all crossed up with wind being a factor. Temp is mild at 52F. Still rideable waves in town with a bit of size and energy.

Channel: Waist high + but a bit mixed up. Rain and winds not helping but there are some waves and corners to be had. A few have held up and are shortboardable as well. About 10 in the water.

Patch: Mixed up swell with jumbled waves in the waist high range. Scattered peaks with competing swell angles and weather a factor.

Daily Surf Report - 11/6/2011

It's a good morning.

The surf is still rolling in, with good size and consistency.
There's no real wind to speak of at this point, and the sun is shining. Current temp is 48, sure to warm up as the day progresses.

Needless to say, looks like a good day to come to the beach and enjoy!

Channel: Still good surf in the waist to shoulder high size. Consistent with a good push. Coming in pretty clean. Lot's of good rides to be had. Any board you take out will be fun. Should only get better as the tide goes out.

Patch: Thigh high, breaking, cleanly on the inside.
A little too much water to break outside, but as the tide drains out it should clean up nicely.

Red streaked morning sky with no wind and a current temp of 48F. Scattered clouds overhead with patches of blue showing through.

Surf's Up today! Bring whatever board you like to ride. Bring patience in looking for parking. Bring you biggest smile and Good Morning greetings to those already in the water. Working on the high tide and expect improvement as tide moves low.

Channel: Good surf in the waist to shoulder high size. Consistent and a bit of juice as well. Longboards work best on the deeper bar and over at Seadrift. Mid-lengths, fish and shortboards are catching waves midway out and inside as well towards the Groin. Some waves are rippable and all are rideable with long rides to be had. Lots of surfers in the water since dark.

Patch: Outside there are waves in the waist high range. Intermittent waits but good gliding rights and lefts are available for longboards and SUPs. Fun cruising conditions.
