Daily Surf Report - 3/31/2014

WE WILL BE CLOSING EARLY TODAY BUT WILL REOPEN TOMORROW AT 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:

“Our language is the reflection of ourselves. A language is an exact reflection of the character and growth of its speakers." - Cesar Chavez

Good morning to all of you denizens of liquid realities. As the last day of March is upon us it brings a temperature of 54 degrees, the opening day of Major League Baseball as well as stormy weather that, at this point isn't even remotely conducive for the activity of surfing. It's a 'Victory At Sea' morning and ones time would be best spent indoors. Remember, everything is temporary as this storm will also indeed pass. Now, go. Go, dear reader to a much more pleasurable experience and embrace it as you would with all that is good. Namaste, bitches.

CHANNEL: Blown out like Joe Namath's knees. And, just like with Joe, no amount of surgery will save this spot today.

PATCH:  Just like above. Stay home. Or, bake some cookies and bring some to me. Note; Oatmeal Raisin are a personal fav.

Daily Surf Report - 3/30/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:

“If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life." - Marcus Garvey

Buenas dias surferos todos! It's a beautiful Sunday morning here at the beach as the sun is already up and stretching, beaming it's high-watt grin to greet this new day.The temperature is bopping along at a cool 48 degrees with nary a speck of wind as of yet as the birds sing and dance in the key of the Temptations (circa the Eddie Kendricks/David Ruffin era). There is even a little bit of swell sneaking into town this 'morn. Not super crazy great but it's a little something, none-the-less. So, snap on the neoprene and grab the plank of choice and get it before it's all gone by tomorrow.

CHANNEL: It's waist-plus in size over here this morning and smack-dab on that middle sand bar. However, that middle bar, as all sand bars are is as fickle as a kid in a candy store with the money to spend. The size is nice, the tide is going in the correct direction but it's very section-y and white water induced. I don't know what to tell you but there is an occasional clean ride to be had for the lucky enough surfer who is in the right spot. Ten plus (10+) with a sweet tooth looking for Mr. Good Bar... or a Hershey's w/ almonds... or a Snickers...

PATCH:  (sung to the tune; "McDonald's Is My Kind Of Place.") The Patch is the place to be...no other place I see...a bit crowded naturally... with longboards and SUP's... The Patch is good for you and me... waist high and all glassy... the Patch is the place to beeeeeeeee.

Daily Surf Report - 3/29/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:

“Real difficulties can be overcome; it is only the imaginary ones that are unconquerable.” - Theodore Vail

Rain and lots of it this morning.  Wind and plenty of that as well today.  I know many of you are planning a beach day today but stop for a moment and ask yourself WHY?.  Currently 57F and wildly wet.  White-capped and fully textured ocean with conditions not applicable for surfing at this time.  Definitely messy and jumbled due to the weather and may not clear up today.  There may be outside endeavors worth looking into today but surfing is not high on that list.  Try taking a hike.

CHANNEL: Messy and disorganized with high tide filling in.  No real waves of shape or consequence here.  Board choice of the day - in bed under the covers.

PATCH:  Disorganized and messy with high tide filling in.  No real waves of consequence or shape here.

Daily Surf Report - 3/28/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Neither fire, nor moisture, nor wind can destroy the blessing of a good deed, and it will reform the world.” - Buddha

Getting all the crystals back in order and aligned today.  May take a bit to sort things out and get back to normalcy here.  We have overcast and moist weather with S winds blowing on shore.  Temp is balmy at 56F.  Plenty of texture on the water surface and not much wave action of note.  Still have a mix of swells out there but facing a losing battle today against high tide and bad winds.  Saw a few of the big dogs heading for parts unknown so there may be better surf conditions elsewhere today.

CHANNEL: Getting swamped out with high tide approaching.  Fairly sloppy and not looking appetizing or very rideable either.  Scattered white-water peaks all over the general area with fishermen outnumbering the surfers at this point.  Seadrift bars may hold hope today but that will be on the outgoing tide in the afternoon.  Current size of waves = thigh.

PATCH:  Nothing clean or organized here today.  Knee high or better sloppy peaks that may or may NOT break.

Daily Surf Report - 3/27/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't fight forces, use them." - R. Buckminster Fuller

Good morning to all of you surfboard riding enthusiasts. It's another glorious day here in paradise. The sun is currently playing that, "Now you see me, now you don't" game as the cumulus is gathered around the ceiling and the temperature is sliding in at a comfortable 53 degrees. The birds are out singing in the key of Garnet Mimms as the weather is calling for scattered showers later in the day. There is some undulating energy in the water as I write this, though it's a bit on the DUI/disorganized side of it. After a tide change I bet it cleans up a touch. I'll let you know right here if that indeed happens. If not, I won't.

CHANNEL: Big, sloppy waist-to-occasional chest high white water foam monsters are boiling through the middle of the Channel. That's not stopping four (4) short boarders who are located waaaaaaay over at Sea Drift from trying a few free samples from the Poseidon deli.

PATCH:  An occasional... and I do mean occasional waist high-to-below waist slow poke burps through the inside/Snags area. Maybe good for a 40-50 yard run then it dissipates and you're back to first-and-ten. Not a clean ride either as it's real bumpy and drunk. Only Cookie out there now on his trusty Junod waiting, waiting, waiting and then more waiting until the slow boat to Rockville arrives. Maybe later with the tide change we'll get a window.

We are closed on Wednesday's through the month of March. We will be open tomorrow morning at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
TV is just useless informational graffiti spray painted on the walls of your mind." - M. David Tafoya

Good morning to all of you gliders of liquid emerald gems. It's currently 52 degrees and rainy. This is good. As all of you undoubtedly know we are in the midst of a third year drought, so let it rain. Unfortunately, there really isn't any surf as it's all chopped up like a bad credit card at Nordstrom. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe later in the week? Pray for surf but REALLY pray for more rain. Empty parking lot....duh!

CHANNEL: Nope. Sorry, Captain Ahab. It's all chopped up and blown out the blow hole.

Daily Surf Report - 3/25/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T.S. Eliot

Good day to all of you worshippers of the brine. It's a drizzly Tuesday morning here at the beach as much-needed rains are immanent. The temperature is oozing in at a decidedly cool 51 degrees as the sun is taking a holiday. Not much wind as of yet and the surf is small and sporadic... when there is any at all. Might be a good day to hold off and get some chores done or, grab the biggest floatation vehicle you possess along with an umbrella and give it a try. As always, it's really up to you.

CHANNEL: Nothing worth writing home about here today. Sand bars are exposed and no wave, bump, wart or really anything on which to glide upon. Yes, you guessed it...no one here and for obvious reasons.

PATCH:  It's always a little weird when the Patch has a little something but the Channel doesn't have a thing, as historically it's been generally the other-way around. It's glassy and occasionally it's waist (-) high, BUT before you get your undies in a bunch most of the undulations that seem to find their way through here slowly roll for about 20-40 yards then dissipate back into the brine. A few and I mean F-E-W make it a little farther. When the tide changes there is always the possibility of that little magic window of surf. Eight (8) humanoids on logs and not a janitor in sight. Certainly a morning of rarities.

Daily Surf Report - 3/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer." - William S. Burroughs

Good morning to all of you neoprene clad wave warriors and welcome to Monday, or as Elvis Costello once said in song; "Welcome to the working week. I know it don't thrill ya, I hope it don't kill ya." It's another overcast morning here at the beach with temperatures loping in at a chilly 50 degrees, however all of this promises to warm up and burn off a little later as the day marches on. The surf is small and almost non-existent in most parts of the drink this 'morn. A HUGE board could help but maybe waiting until later in the day could remedy this. As always, if it changes for the positive I'll be sure to note it right here.

CHANNEL:  Ankle high/shin kicking white water blah. The lagoon is draining faster than a bar fly from Smiley's on his/her first beer of the day. Sand bars are appearing soon and the empty line-up speaks volumes. Maybe later?

PATCH:  It's glassy, it's classy but it certainly isn't sassy. Knee high fizzlers are attempting to break off. Some do, most don't. The tide is receding faster than Nicolas Cage's hair line which could create a momentary window... or not. Keep thy fingers crossed... maybe your eyes too. Eight (8) or so out there now mostly paddling and missing.

Daily Surf Report - 3/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans." - Jacques Yves Cousteau

Happy Sunday to all of you slippers & sliders of the brine. It's a wonderful morning here at the beach. Okay, so it's overcast but the water is Windex(tm) smooth and the temperature, which is currently at 51 degrees will most certainly jump up to far warmer climes as the day progresses. The surf is pretty dang small,  so what will that mean? I'm glad that you asked. That will mean that you will need a hydrodynamic craft that must have far more volume in which to successfully navigate the diminshing undulations. In other words; big boards will bring big fun. Let's see more body surfers, mat riders and paipo enthusiasts out there today!

CHANNEL:  The tide is getting lower than my old 1969 Riviera, which was slammed & juiced, front and rear, skirted with Crager classics (cue "Low Rider" by War). Sand bars are exposed and will continue to be so until well after high noon. However- the tide turnaround later today could bring a lot of smiles on the mugs of you weekend warriors. If you have the time I say wait it out. A few janitors over there now pretty much buffing the area and a couple of boogie boarders who are working it between the Groin Pole and the ramp are the ones that definitely have the right tool for the right job as they are getting some good wave time.

PATCH:  There is a bit of wave-ness out here at the Clam Patch this 'morn but the operative word here is; Fizzle. The 'waves' begin their journey shore-ward as they rear up out by the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock. Some break off, some don't. The one's that do tend to go ten-twenty yards then....fizzle. Way inside they break BUT the tide is rapidly retreating and that's where all of those pesky, ding-inducing rocks dwell. With the receeding tide there will be, in all likelihood a small window of a swell so, timing will be important here today. Several custodian boards and longboards looking for that magic carpet ride.

Daily Surf Report - 3/22/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.” -African Proverb

Yewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!  Welcome to the weekend and we have a beautiful start with sunshine, very light wind, a temp of 49F and family friendly beach conditions.  CRYSTAL clear skies and mild temps through the next few days.   We still have a NW swell mix that is fading and no water to speak of with morning low tides.  Might be a little groundswell filling in later today but now it is macroscopic micro-sliders in shallow water and a full parking lot already.  Giddy up and hurry down to beat the crowds.

CHANNEL:  Low tide and still dropping with lots of sand for running dogs and sand castle building.  Knee high mini-waves in play but that is not stopping the body surfing, boogie boarding, shortboarding or loggers from jumping in and getting wet.  Lots of morning hoots must mean someone is having fun so give it a long hard look then paddle out.  More water will likely help the situation.

PATCH:  Lots of rocks and few waves today.  A few scattered almost-waves that are shin burners at best.  The sweeper crew is on it and maybe they will tidy things up for later in the day when the tide fills in.  Now it is good for hiking and rock picking for treasure. Try wait.

Daily Surf Report - 3/21/2014

1:00pm UPDATE: Sunny, calm, no wind, warm at 68F.  Small but rideable waves!

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Discovery consists of seeing what everyone has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” - Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Coastal overcast and some onshore flow this morning.  Light puffs of wind and temp is now 51F.  Feels fairly like Spring conditions with a touch of swell and light texture due to wind.  Swell size and period have dropped but there should be something worth riding later in the day with increased water levels.  Low tide and no water now means not much going on yet.  Take a walk, speak with foxes and find waves in a few hours.

CHANNEL:  Low tide / No tide means lots of sand is showing and small but rideable waves in play.  Only knee high and on the inside but enough push to get longboards up and riding for a short distance.  Late morning and afternoon/evening tides are much better suited to turn this place on.  Still, you can get wet and find a corner here and there.

PATCH:  All hands on deck and ALL rocks are visible.  Mind your toes and fins as well here this morning.  There are some outside waves at the meeting rock but it looks most suited for the sweeper set and they are out in force and polishing it up nicely for surfing later today.  Knee high at best and just scattered around but a couple are getting rides and if you have a very big board you will as well.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.” - Henry Ford

Celebrate New Beginnings: The Vernal Equinox

Ah, spring! This season brings increasing daylight, warming temperatures, and the rebirth of flora and fauna.  The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night.” Days and nights are approximately equal everywhere and the Sun rises and sets due east and west.  In the northern hemisphere the March equinox marks the start of spring and has long been celebrated as a time of rebirth.

We welcome Spring with sunny skies and a morning temp of 51F.  A beautiful day to be outside and soak up the glory of the day.  Still showing sizable WNW swell on the northern buoys but water levels are too low here to really get any waves working yet.  Strap on some shoes and hike the morning away.  Get that neoprene on later in the day as the tide fills in.

CHANNEL:  Plenty of sand and very little surfable waves so far.  Needs more water which will require tide as it just hit dead low. Knee high and chopped up now.  Good for????

PATCH:  Mystical micro-sliders in the knee and under size.  Outside meeting rock foam burgers that may go knee + in height.  Most all the rocks are showing now as tide has hit bottom.  Empty lineup although 6 guys on Costco foamies just got out.

We are closed every Wednesday for the month of March. We will be open tomorrow morning, Thursday at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Well, you know... that's like your opinion, man." - the Dude

Good morning children of the sea. It looks to be another fantastic day here at the beach. The sun is about to come up over the ridge above Stinson and smile it's golden rays down upon the palatial goodness of Bolinas. It's currently 42 degrees but it'll surely warm up in no time. As for the surf... well, as the old saying goes; you win some, you lose some. Flatness is what rules here this morning but you must know that this won't last all that long. Check some Western facing beaches today or just go out and walk around this big blue marble of a planet and dig what other groovy things it has to offer.

CHANNEL: Sand bars are exposing themselves like a flasher in Golden Gate Park. No waves. No surfers. Empty parking lot.

PATCH:  Teeny lines that don't break heading for the exposed rock formations. With this in-coming tide the Patch will be shut off completely. Only the Pelican on his trusty janitorial board, the S.S. Mop & Glow is going for the excerise run out to Duxbury Reef and back. Ride, captain ride upon your mystery ship...

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." -Albert "Boom Boom" Einstein

A very good morning to all of you practitioners of the glide. It's a BEE-U-TI-FUL morning here at the beach with the temperature slipping in at chilly 46 degrees that will most definitely warm up as the day saunters along. The sun is up with Ray-Bans on and the wind is sleeping in. The birds are singing in the key of Charlie "Yard Bird" Parker (w/strings), but the swell that was in town has hitched a ride on the dog and has moved on. Great day for hiking Tam, touring on a SUP or biking.

CHANNEL: Below knee gurglers that are really nothing to write home about. "Mama said they'll be days like this, they'll be days like this my mama said." - the Shirelles
No one out here at all...

PATCH:  Below thigh high but they aren't even breaking... except over the rocks right on the ding-inducing inside. Yet, they're four (4) logs and an janitor out there now living in the past.

Daily Surf Report - 3/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“There is no such thing as fun for the whole family." - Jerry Seinfeld

Top 'o the morning to ya and Happy St. Paddy's day to all of you watery lads and lasses! I hope none of you bent your collective elbow's too much this weekend as to end up with a touch of the "Irish Flu" as it's another glorious morning here at the beach. The sun is up and guiding that temperature along to a comfortable 53 degrees, which should warm up even more as the day progresses. The birds are out singing in the key of Shane McGowan and there is still a teeny bit of positive energy left in the H2O, so snap on the rubber and glide, slide and ride.

CHANNEL: Waist (+/-) snapping a little bit off of the middle bar and another bar (!) way over in the Sea Drift area code. So, if you enjoy leftovers then fire up the microwave and grab a mid-to-large hydrodynamic vehicle and dine on some morning glass. Several spread out there as I write this and more in the parking lot ready to clog the line-up.

PATCH:  Emerald green waist (+/-) wedges popping up out of nowhere like Clint Eastwood in "Hig Plains Drifter." Working (for now) out side of the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock and in the Snags. WAAAAAY too many janitors out there cleaning up today with a mix of logs here and there.

Daily Surf Report - 3/16/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“You bring out the best in yourself by looking for the best in others.” - Gene Bedley

4:00pm UPDATE:  SUN remains out.  Glassing up and shaping up nicely for an evening / sunset session!

Roll out of bed and watch your step today as the fog is thick and the town is crowded.  Nearly no parking already and thick pea soup conditions at the very border of town.  If you want morning sun head to Pt. Reyes.  Should / could burn off but may take a while.  Temp is now 52F.  There is a decent and building NW swell in the water but no visuals yet.  Full moon time so my crystals are fully charged even in the fog.  I'll CONSULT my crystal ball and postulate, emulate, guesstimate, animate, recreate and infiltrate a potentially likely, or not, surf report this morning.  With so many cars in the lot and surfers suiting up I would venture to say it is pumping or dare say EPIC?  Expect smoothness at least with the fog on the deck.  Be the first to find out by diving in blindly today.

CHANNEL: Unknown due to thick fog.  Anywhere from knee to chest high is my best guess and all body parts in between.  Tide is coming in so that is good.  Expect less and receive more.  I'd say the heavy stuff wont be here for a while so I'd keep surfing.

PATCH:  Unknown due to thick fog.  Anywhere from knee to chest high is my best guess and all body parts in between. Tide is coming in so that is good. Believe in NOTHING and find something today.  This could be the greatest surf day of your life.
