Daily Surf Report - 6/30/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"The revolution that takes place in your head, nobody will ever see that." - Gil Scott-Heron

A balmy 58 degrees as we wonder what happened to the "Sunny California" from the postcards. A heavy mist hangs down, and brings with it an air of defeat and malice. The ample parking should relay volumes with regard to current conditions, but this revelation will fall largely on the vacant stares of the faithful and vigilant, as a small gathering of the suited and booted still seek slides of import. As the hours roll forward, the sun may make itself known, and the prince of tides should bestow marginally improved conditions, but know the battle that faces you, friends, and choose your weapon accordingly.

CHANNEL: A modest approach may yield benefits as the morning grows long, as the patient and grounded seek the current left. Though small in statue, the rake of said shape is providing those that know the steps the opportunity to dance for a moment, or perhaps longer. An increase in volume should make the inside of the marker an area to watch with the hawk's keen eye.

PATCH:  Always an odd sight to witness a barren patch at this hour, as even the vampire crew seems to be absent. Though marginal shapes show signs of shadow, and bounce water hither and yon, the shapes one truly seeks are absent. Though it is without doubt that there will be those who insist on donning the suit and seeking the stoke, there needs to be an understanding already in their hearts that the smiles should come from within. The ocean gives no quarter, and any time spent in it should be valued.

Daily Surf Report - 6/29/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Forever is composed of nows." - Emily Dickinson

Mixed tides, mixed feelings, mixed messages, and mixed metaphors as we greet a muggy morning here in the village. Currently 58 degrees and expected to rise as the clouds make their way inland as afternoon breaks. As is the custom, this day looks to you to determine what treasures are reaped from the sea. Will shapes that bring slide and stoke make themselves known? Yes, but with this knowledge needs to come an acceptance of the reality of our situation. Temper your expectations, center your chi, realize your target, and become one of many becoming one with the cool waters.

CHANNEL: A dynamic duo studiously chase a largely mythical left, as overall power is lacking, as if from a shoddy generator. With the right kind of vision, one can feel the possibilities as we approach the luncheon hour high tide, but these stalwarts are making something from almost nothing currently. The portions may be small, but if you choose to dine at the prime time, than the soul's reward you might find.

PATCH:  As morning brings with it the usual suspects, and we find that mix of those who paddle on belly and knee as well as those with carbon sticks, the current lack of shape begs the question; what do you seek? The posse largely plays a waiting game, though  a single sniper is far outside, and reaping the benefits, with rides of many yards. With the tides as they are this fine day, and with our fair waters in general, arrival and departure times will be vital. The sun will shine, and shapes will form. They may not be the stuff of legend, nor helicopter's carrying photo and video jockeys, but smiles and satisfaction can still be yours, that's up to you.

Daily Surf Report - 6/28/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them." - Ernest Hemingway

Fog covering the bay this morning letting the rabbits and squirrels roam freely and unnoticed and also leaving our beach cold and dim. No light showing from the sun as the summer weather seems to have forgotten about us today. Current outside temperature of 61F but the breeze giving off a bit of a bite. Likely some sun will show in the coming hours to thaw things out but may take a while for the fog to burn off.

CHANNEL: A hopeful few gather and join in the waiting game. Incoming tide is bringing plenty of water with it. Knee to thigh high at very best. Not the most fun here it looks like, with sets coming inconsistently as combo double ups cause mass confusion. Water possibly more rideable during outgoing tide. Try wait.

PATCH:  Expectations running moderately high while yet another crowd blossoms here in the Patch. This is your destination today considering other poorly priced options. Rolling in at thigh high, your best bet is to find one long, slow ride at a time. Rights are in favor today coming in all the way to the sand. Still not super consistent but will fulfill your goal if hopes stay low.

Daily Surf Reports - 6/27/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." - Salvador Dali

A conflicted morning as the summer weekend bodes and temps soar inland.  Coastal relief mandatory but what activities to undertake?  Continued light SW winds and miniscule swell serving up the slop today with current fare not up to most surfers liking.  Lookers / Lurkers / Lingerers are giving Mother Ocean the hard eye like she owes them money.  Fate may hang in the balance but a dip in the water usually cures all ailments.  Sun will and has been playing hide and seek so wear sunscreen and bring a heavy fleece.  Experience all that nature has to offer today and remember to leave no trace beyond lingering memories.

CHANNEL: Transitional outcomes as NW windswell battles with small scale and faint S swell to create much of nothing.  Moderate high tide pushing in relates to a very mild level change not conducive to exceptional results.  An UN-encumbered playing field awaits those with the fortitude to make a leap.  As best witnessed and determined - any and all boards will work poorly in the current slide options as size and energy remain sub-optimal.

PATCH:  A worthy option considering the choices as potential and possibility will count for partial credit.  Fill out your application and apply all efforts here with spirited hopes for positive results.  A salient inside right seems to have been overlooked by those heading to depths and destinations far beyond the field of view.  Take a wide perspective and harvest what the earth gives in all aspects of life.  Expect less / Receive more and enjoy that which comes your way.

Daily Surf Report - 6/26/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Better three hours too soon than a minute too late." - William Shakespeare

A hovering and heavy fog descends and envelopes.  Twisting and swirling upon a landscape of broken dreams and dashed aspirations.  A palpable calm invades as light SW winds put a texture upon aquatic surfaces and a chill in our hearts with current temp at 56F.  As ocean energy eases those seeking slides of solace must balance supply v. demand as shapes with form are hidden from view.  A tidal push may just provide the impetus to don neoprene and those upon the wall will need to look inward to tip scales in their favor this morning.

CHANNEL: Turbid times as competition from fading swells react unfavorably to today's beginning.   A seasoned discernment may find a corner or slice upon which mind-surfing will be best exemplified.  The early brave have found the prize and are wallowing in the goodness as allowed.  Sectioned / chopped / less than triumphant waves are the reward today and size will hoist to thigh high feats.  Come locked and loaded but beware what truth you may discover.

PATCH:  A spirited breeze has the Patch in the doldrums as S swell verve dissolves and retreats.  Shielded eyes view with disdain as the picture is not pretty and the reality less so indeed.  Wily veterans may reap from what they sow but the slides will be tempered with true knowledge that the end is near.  Solitary and miniscule rights will appear and for those with patience, will provide.

Daily Surf Report - 6/25/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Everything you can imagine is real." - Pablo Picasso

A collective calm and sigh of contentment as sun dominates the environment and wind is kept at bay.  Today's reality is slides are more than possible and shapes continue to formulate and fraternize in both areas of concern. Fading swells still keep the fires stoked and multiple watercraft are seen wandering westward to their ultimate goal.  A keen sense of location will align you with rides of consequence and others will make do with less than optimal outcomes.

CHANNEL: The past peaked tide has turned towards low and will have inside rights on the Mali-Bo causeway gridlocked and shut down.  Other bars are being re-fabricated and therefore will offer up the roller du jour that has loggers on high alert.  An unwilling partner in all of this is the dying NW swell which will strike without notice and pulse through with lefts and rights dependent on where you reside.  Size as a relative measure shows near waist high desires and the journey will always be where you take it.

PATCH:  A keen eye will spy a moderate right holding court in the Patch as the tip time crew sets sights upon nose-rides and steady holding waves with a glistening backdrop.  With varying degrees of ebb and flow this spot should have reservations most of the day with water levels never reaching apex in either direction.  A touch of texture that should soon smooth out but eminently rideable for those with slides upon their mind.

Daily Surf Report - 6/24/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

"As not two people see the world the same way, all trips from here to there are imaginary; all truth is a tale I am telling myself." - Byron Gysin

A deceptive chill falls upon the BO, as the first rays of sun break through the fog, and morning finds another day near the breakers. As has been the custom of late, parking is at a premium, and all shapes and sizes of watercraft are in various states of preparedness. Be sure and align your mind with knowledge that you will need a singular vision to find slides currently, as shapes of consequence are in play, yet they are providing much needed time to rest in stillness, and let the mind flow as it does.

CHANNEL: Though it warms the heart to see a cadre of sliders braving these waters this fine morn, they do so with questionable motives. It seems they are collectively willing Mali-Bo towards it's own voodoo. The sandbar in question is a wild spirit, who's heart belongs to no one. As such, she is giving only glimpses of curve and shadow, and leaving onlookers yearning for more. There is the potential for the kind of stoke that provides bar-stool tales, but the ebb and flow will decide when and where a definitive and mournful left might make itself known.

PATCH:  A strangely desolate Patch at the current hour, as it appears that overall charge is sorely lacking. This shall not be the case as day rumbles forward, however, and one anticipates a gathering and maddening crowd in the later hours. If the past days are to offer any guidance, there will be reason for celebration and jubilation, but these moments will owe their very existence to the water table, and it's  rising and falling levels. Take heed, and make your mojo known, as it's all you have to offer.

Daily Surf Report - 6/23/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"You are nobody, and I might have been somebody, and the road to each of us is love." - John Fante

A rare and determined sunlight struggles against a thick mist as we greet another morn in the village-by-the-sea. A horde has already descended and even the most ambitious, and perhaps delusional, of the thruster tribe have arrived seeking the soul's reward. A day such as this will test the will and reward only those with the who seek a righteous path, as tides will flow and zephyrs will blow, and the stoke will not be given to you, you must earn it.

CHANNEL: An already retreating sea is providing no shape and little energy as the marker makes a shadow known only to an amalgamation of madness and sand. Though hope may well be found directly in front of the point of access, the stargate of stoke will be in flux. Be wise, and enter the vortex.

PATCH:  This is where all tribes have inserted themselves, and traffic in and out of the waters may need some direction, or perhaps assigned lanes, as the beach currently brings to mind areas much further south than these shores. Though the bodies and boards are many, current shapes still require patience, placement, and shoulders to find slides of merit. A far inside shape is the choice of the majority, and a scramble and tumult accompanies each breaker towards it's inevitable end. When looking with another perspective, one encounters a list of possibilities currently being under-utilized. With some creativity, and a willingness to allude and avoid, smiles may belong to you. Your choice.

Daily Surf Report - 6/22/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

"Think you're escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home." - James Joyce

Another grey and mist-covered morning as mid-June presents all of the usual symptoms. A current bite in the air as temps struggle to reach 50 degrees, and winds are light and variable, with occasional gusts from the NW. Though parking is already at a premium, it appears only the most determined of the vampire crew drew stoke from the veins of the sea this morn. Bodies bob and weave among shapes of little consequence, and forms are being observed heading into the modest breakers even now, although one must ponder what deeper meaning they hope to find, as the diminishing waters are taking all hopes for slides back into their briny grasp.

CHANNEL: A web of whitewater and chaos as we stare towards the exposed marker, surrounded only by sand, emptiness, and the dashed hopes of a thousand lost souls.

PATCH: As previously stated, the roster is deep and dark, as neoprene and fiberglass dot the seascape. These forms take little action, as what meager offerings are being had lack the punch of the champion. The time of impact has passed, and shall come again, but many hours lie between then and now. Take heed, and understand that as often as you seek the stoke, the stoke finds you only when the hour is right and the alignment is tight. Know that the ebb and flow determines your fate, and act accordingly.

Daily Surf Report - 6/21/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me." - Jim Valvano

Happy Fathers day to all and happy Sunday. Beautiful day to sleep in and for endless naps. We have a sleepy morning upon us seeming to wake up slowly as the fog still lingers and the mist is still hanging around. As for the water, what is still remaining during this low tide is barely keeping the beach wet. Plenty of sand exposed for your daily beach activities but hardly enough water to support the hopes of many surfers.

CHANNEL: Take your hopes of being stoked some place else. Too much sand. Not enough water. No waves. Low tide killing any chance to enjoy a ride on any shape you own. Mostly flat with a bit of backwash coming from inside the channel.

PATCH: Tread lightly and watch where you step! Low tide has rocks fully exposed with all of their stinging glory. A bit of swell on the outside calling for the few lone logs catching what they can. Looks like hardly enough push to support your average human. Big boards and small corgis will do best.

Daily Surf Report - 6/20/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly." - Langston Hughes

Perma-mist as we relish in the foggy landscape once again.  A unnerving brightness in the air seems to signal a shift in perception and possibly a warming trend and return to sunny times.  For now we start the day shrouded in miasma and mystery yet open to all possibilities.  Temp holding steady at 54F and light southerly winds presently.  Bottoming tide and fading swells have ISD on temporary hold.  Fear not as we have a board sale going on today and the afternoon tide push will give you the means you require to stay stoked.

CHANNEL:  Endless expanses of sand have Corgi counters out surveying seascapes not usually visible to the naked eye.  Rippy and trippy as low tide combines with exposed sand to create a field of horrors unworthy of slides or smiles.  Even the most salty of fishermen are giving the Channel a wide berth as it reveals nothing palatable at this time.  Have faith and hope as the incoming tide will push through and allow for weak waves to wash away the tears and renew one's faith in the sport of kings.  For now it will be hot black tea and time consuming inland pursuits until water levels reach a more optimum level.

PATCH:  A savage morning with paddle wielding hopefuls valiantly searching for a bump upon which their tortured strokes may prevail.  Turbulent and textured from wind yet not yielding the prize we all currently seek.  Much too low of tidal levels to allow for any swell to permeate this realm.  Only a rock strewn expanse upon which to gaze as for now the morning remains quiet and a time better spent under blankets with deep and meaningful literature.

Daily Surf Report - 6/19/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." - Mark Twain

A welcoming orb shines down upon us this morning.  Despite chill temps of 52F and no wind the promise of warmth is emerging as we contemplate the unfolding day.  No tide vibes got the surf jones on hold for now.  Other factors include a lack of swell offerings making for a morning funk off to a slow start oceanic-ally.  There are other endeavors worth undertaking but they will require a thought process beyond our abilities today.

CHANNEL:  Shattered dreams as outgoing tide mixes with no swell to turn this area into a foamy mess of sands and whitewater spillage.  No takers and no offerings for good reason as all factors align for negativity.  Toe ticklers at best just off the Groin bar but not fit for human consumption at this time.  Afternoon tide push may hold promise for later slides and winds have not been a factor over that last 24 hours.

PATCH:  A traumatized tribunal in session well outside the exposed meeting rock as smooth surfaces mix with furious paddles and long periods of rest.  A determined trio has this location on lockdown with all surfable waves shut off due to severe low tide.  More water is needed in many respects and here remains drought parched and rock exposed.  Micro-sliders may appear as the day wears on but many hours must pass before the aquatic levels reach numbers above 1.

Daily Surf Report - 6/18/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Have patience. All things are difficult before they become easy." - Saadi

June gloom remains firmly planted in our consciousness as fog surrounds the village.  Beams of light are fighting the good battle and hints of blue may be just on the horizon.  Winds remain slack and have caressed the ocean surface into a silky canvas on which to play.  Temp is a disarming 55F with radiating promise of higher scores. A vicious low tide has acres of exposed sand and rocks yet the meager offerings from the NW and S have things just above flat in terminal height.

CHANNEL:  Fully exposed sandspit has surfers lined up like lemmings to take their turn on the small rights breaking off in the Channel.  Smooth ocean is inviting yet lacks the volume to precipitate much more than the current knee-cappers.  While swell numbers are lacking, more water may be the key to unlock this secret today.

PATCH:  A glassy surface upon which to gaze wistfully and contemplate the future.  All rocks on board and outspoken in their exposed pride this morning.  A small piece of negligible surf can be experienced well outside but the cost analysis of the effort has not been fully calculated.  An empty playing field upon which a jovial few may soon partake.  Currently yielding nothing to harvest but the ground remains frustratingly fertile.

Daily Surf Report - 6/17/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“It was when I figured out I could make mistakes that I knew I was on to something." - Ornette Coleman

In what seems a series of endless numbered days, this morning reveals the same dense fog and deep grey skies as so many others. The zephyrs are gentle this early, though they will not remain so as day grows late. Though there seems more activity on the blacktop than in mornings immediately previous, with various states of neoprene donning observed, one has to wonder if it is not all in vain, as the sea's bounty is currently not on offer, as those seeking nourishment find only a buffet of rock and stone, with yards of exposed sand as an aperitif.

CHANNEL:  The marker by which so many navigate stands only surrounded by sand at this early hour, a sentinel warning against shipwreck or fin damage. Thought a flock of pelicans is enjoying thermal zephyr rides, they are alone this morning, as not even the tribe o' the paddle seeks stoke and smiles. Though an increase in water levels may reveal shapes, one needs to understand that they may well be of little consequence.

PATCH: A lone warrior yields composite paddle and puts furious efforts into what is clearly a futile pursuit. Exposed rock and craggy points are in every direction, and the beach extends lengths into the sea. As noted, the tides determine the fate and potential this day, so be sure to maintain an outlook of promise, observe the charts and times, and arrive and find your lines.

Important Note from the Bolinas Fishing Community:
When heading out the Channel,  the fishing boats have a very narrow slot to navigate and the fishermen have to "thread the needle" to avoid having their boats dumped by waves. The boats don't have the ability or opportunity to veer away from oncoming waves and must take them straight on. Surfers - please practice Ocean Courtesy when boats are heading in and out of the Channel and paddle out of the boat's path to let them through. This will also help in avoiding being run over by a boat at speed.

Daily Surf Report - 6/16/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

“The truth is, of course, that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time." - David Bowie

A hint of a chill and a fog of meaning reveals themselves as morning begins in the village. We gaze upon a forlorn and abandoned coastline at first light, and marvel at dozens of empty parking spaces. Though today may be a day of self-assessment and appraisal, these truths will not be revealed in current water levels. The charts and times will be the key, so keep a watchful and hopeful eye on future hours.

CHANNEL:  A resolute quiet. The almost imperceptible whistle of wind. Yards of exposed sand and bits of driftwood. This is the way, step inside.

PATCH: Tis' a telling sight when nary a mariner is observed in these waters at first light. Current  levels are providing no reason for joy in Mudville, as Casey won't even be leaving the dugout. As we approach the post luncheon portion of the day, stoke potential increases, but only in increments, so temper your expectations, and let your mind bathe in a pure positivity.

Daily Surf Report - 6/15/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness." - Werner Herzog

The fog hangs low and a deep grey holds court as we greet Monday morning.Though the potential for stoke is palpable, current levels of H2O are doing no favors and limiting action currently. It seems the usual suspects have paid no heed, however, as the parade of warriors in and out of the still waters continue unabated. Those who can locate the time and place may reap the benefits this day, but that remains to be seen. Keep a watchful eye on the lunar ebb and flow and know your time to strike.

CHANNEL:  An emptiness and despair fills one's soul as eyes turn towards the marker, as a wasteland of quiet is all that's being offered. A lone and colorful slider sits astride a log and ponders other matters, as no slides are being had. As day continues, ripples may occur, but they will be of small consequence, and sliders and riders will find what they seek elsewhere.

PATCH: Though a determined and dirty dozen are mining the breakers for stoke and salt this morn, the yield leaves much to be desired, as it seems those doing so are engaging only for the sake of doing so, as shapes and silhouette are sorely lacking. Water levels will increase and bring with it increasing potential for stoke, but those moments lie in a hazy future.

Daily Surf Report - 6/14/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.” - Jack Kerouac

Happy Sunday to all! Slow morning here in our little town but smiling faces are everywhere. Speaking of slow, if you plan on heading out here any time soon take it slow - a bad accident has the road backed up a ways so be cautious. Other than that today is looking like a good day to come and relax. A bit gloomy as the fog still hovers but we are praying for surf and sunshine. Hold your crystals and loved ones close today.

CHANNEL:  Slow is the word of the day. Ankle high rollers tumbling in every once in a while. Low tide is not helping us out today.  Cherished memories of what once was are all we have to keep us company today.

PATCH: Flatter than the channel. Not a shape in sight.  Perfectly pancaked and not nearly as tasty.  Breakfast will be served but not in this locale today.
