Daily Surf Report - 5/31/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

Morning mist owns the beach while the fog still hovers and clouds our minds. 55F outside but the general feeling is gritty and grim. As for the water, a nice S swell running its course bringing form and function with it. Lovely day to get in the water with your favorite log. All shapes are welcome today as the push is precipitous. Pack a lunch and a crystal because you'll probably be here all day.

CHANNEL:  Conditions giving us high hopes for a good ride today. Channel sandbar pulsing its way up. Sets ranging from thigh to belly high and rides are not short but big hitter Lama long.  Find your wave and glide your way down the beach. Tide is on the rise and no sign yet that the swell is getting tired.

PATCH: Welcome to the Patch where anything is possible. Success is a definite possibility with a good attitude and peaceful persistence. Long rides looking semi clean and knee/waist high. Popularity is in the Channel but escape the crowd to find solitude on a big board. With the high tide on its way it seems safe from rocks but beware of those just under the surface.

Daily Surf Report - 5/30/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
No change of circumstances can repair a defect of character." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

A morning mist descends once again and brings forth calm winds and mild temps of 55F.  High fog and log light make for serene conditions as a determined S swell couples with a NW windswell to bring consistency upon our shores.  Set your course for destination unknown as the CrystalCaptain guides our ship of fools.  Experience everything as you seek what nurtures in the salty stew.  Exponential personal growth is possible if your are open to exploration and new beginnings.  Forget all you have learned until now and choose the right and just path before you.

CHANNEL:  Mellow vibes occasionally interrupted by a helping of mid level lefts that range in size and ferocity.  A healthy helping in the waist high percentage has wave sliders maximizing their potential as lineups grow with the incoming tide.  Seadrift likes the directional wavelength and has opened its doors with running rights that bend and break in random fashion.  All hail the mighty Channel sandbar as it becomes formed and fabricated with Summer rides on the horizon.

PATCH:  Tidal push begins to raise water levels and the surfing experience as well.  Southern hemisphere energy translating well if you happen to speak the language.  Three Stooges session with Moe / Curly / Brother Shemp in for antics and action.  Skirt the danger zones and find the foamy kelp pockets that hold the key to success and true enlightenment. Celebrate non-conformity in all its manifestations.  Whirlwind revolution keeps the waves coming and slide circulation at a high level.  Size is a relative measure but most accounts determined waist + and silky smooth with racy walls.

Daily Surf Report - 5/29/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“If you don't know where you are going any road can take you there " - Lewis Carroll

Steely grey morning with chilly elements.  Lightly formulated to give maximum benefit to those seeking surf and solace as winds remain light and a confluence of swells fails to regress.  A quiet mist does continue to fall and temps hover around 53F making for a damp and dour mood.  Spy a piece of the vast ocean and your spirits will be raised.  NW and SW swells continue their assault on our coastal hamlet and bring forth waves of lore and glassy proportion.  Get in where you fit in as both locales are delivering this morning.

CHANNEL:  Hearty and sometimes heaving lefts are being tackled by a small crew presently.  The stars and bars are aligning with the Channel sandbar taking shape and holding court.  Cylindrical orbs with size approaching shoulder + will rear up and take you down.  The in-between shapes allow for much better access and smoother racy rides along open hollow faces of doom.  Still has a few wrinkles upon which tragedy may strike but connections across the Groin are available and sometimes are being made.  Shorter boards are welcome and will likely fare well as the tide continues to push forward.  Water levels do remain positive which bodes well throughout the day.

PATCH:  The crustacean crew and all forms have swarmed the Patch during the early dark hours.  A baker's dozen or two have launched a devoted attack upon smooth rollers of mid-human size.  The SW swell continues to resoundingly resonate here and enough water keeps rocks submerged.  Well outside is where the thrill seekers / adrenaline junkies / glory hounds are lured as waves will pitch with waist /chest high walls.  Those in the know station themselves at the mid-way DMZ where take off zones are wide and waves run all the way to the sand.  Tip toe through the kelp forest before finding the furiously fast peaks to keep the stoke alive and heart full of joy.

Daily Surf Report - 5/28/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Beware of missing chances; otherwise it may be altogether too late some day." - Franz Liszt

An altogether righteous day as forms and factors come together.  Sun has broken through and is a welcome respite from misty days past.  Temp bobs and weaves its way up to 56F and higher as the cloud cover continues to burn off.  A healthy combination of SW and NW swells coupled with no wind has the ocean groomed and primed and parking already at a premium.  Tides are not a limiting factor today but how long your paddling arms will last may be. All town spots are delivering the goods this morning and the choice of location is truly up to you.

CHANNEL:  A once listless Channel left has re-emerged and is taking shape this morning.  Take your ticket and find your place in the lineup as a revolving sequence of surf is upon us.  Peeling and reeling off  the Groin bar are modified morphing shapes from different angles that have the ability to produce peaks upon which the lesser board crew can partake.  The boat ramp has size but not consistent form and many board tails have been observed well above sea level.  Size will come near your waist for now and possibly hold throughout the day.  Rejoice as you receive the bounty from the sea.

PATCH:  With much water, fantastic voyages are being taken by the devoted contingent of surf sliders.  All parts are doing the dance today so pick your poison and relish as you imbibe.  Smoothness is abundant and the rides are effortless and joyful.  All good vibes here as logs lumber about and water levels remain as positive as one's spirits today.

Daily Surf Report - 5/27/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Do not fear mistakes, there are none." - Miles Davis

Yet another morning shrouded in damp, mist, and darkness. There is little change in temps in what has begun to feel like weeks. One is tempted to steep dark tea and view Ice Station Zebra on an endless loop until the end of days. Do not yield to this temptation, as there is reason to rejoice as one looks to the seas! Parking is already minimal as the dedicated and deranged seek solace and smiles amongst slides of merit and consequence. The low tide will not do her usual damage, and winds remain very light, so make your choice, steel your nerves, get in, and get out.

CHANNEL:  It does make the heart sing to see shapes of this caliber just outside the marker, our vigilant sentinel. A peeling right is holding court, and the determined are taking heed. The angles of said shapes are more severe than usual observation indicates, and among the rod, reel, and tackle that bobs in the waters this morn, one observes several of the thruster tribe making the most.  As is the custom, a lack of water will be in play as day moves on, but pay attention and give thanks.

PATCH:  The rumble and tumble of the past 48 hours simply refuses to retreat, and the devotees are taking notice and suiting up. Slightly more inside than at the higher tides of days' past, but slides are being had that inspire jealousy and much as they do stoke.  There is marginal time between the shapes as they approach the craggy coastline, but these moments may be needed to recover and reset. This will be the place where bodies will gather throughout the day, so be aware of your neighbor, and against all evidence to the contrary, hope they will do the same for you.

Daily Surf Report - 5/26/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries." - A.A. Milne

So this is permanence. Or so it feels, as we stare into the heart of yet another misty morning, with a damp that encloses the soul and clouds the mind. Though temps in the mid-50's and very light winds speak of better conditions as the day unfolds, only the heartbeat of the clock knows the ultimate truth. After the pomp and circumstance of a long weekend, the village returns to it's abnormal state, with only the usual dawn patrol sliders taking advantage. Today has certain possibilities, if one pays heed to tidal charts and broken hearts.

CHANNEL:  A determined duo seeks slides and smiles amongst the fishing line and canine swimmers, as they sit just to the inside of the marker. Though it is with a keen eye that shapes are observed, and are being ridden, though price may vary by location. Look for the retreating waters to offer no favors as we approach high noon, but look ever forward, as the tide will return, and could make someone's afternoon worth reverie and reflection.

PATCH:  A solid line casts shadows and whitewater is plentiful, as a six-pack of those black-clad warriors make their way into the depths. A right one might refer to as aspirational is gaining attention, and with good reason, as rides are currently lengthy, and offering some walkabout potential. As stated above, arrival time will be paramount today, so take heed.

Daily Surf Report -- 5/25/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism."-George Washington

A timeless mist covers the village in a permanent damp as the mercury hovers into the mid-50's. Low clouds and a menacing fog creep through one's peripheral vision as all eyes turn towards the sea in the early hours. Though the weather does not speak of visions of backyard barbeques and lawn darts, the breakers are making a different party known currently, as a baker's dozen are attempting slides and stoke. As per usual, watch the times and tides, as our piece of paradise is, at best, temperamental.

CHANNEL:   It warms the heart and shocks the mind to see the pole surrounded by human forms as it is currently. Logs mix with shorter molds and shapes for slides are currently on tap. The key will be timing this morning, as the volume is slowly making things less so. Parking is available, but that is only due to the early hour. Be mindful of others as your seek your bliss, as your shall not be the only one.

PATCH:  A surprisingly barren patch as we gaze towards the far side this morn. Even more so given the solid forms holding court and finding a route to the shore. It seems as though only a select few are seeking solace without paddles, but they are enjoying slides measured in yards, not feet. Will you find yourself amongst them today? Mid-day lows will harsh one's mellow, so be aware,  the breakfast and dinner menus offer the promise of satisfaction, the luncheon menu may leave one wanting, and wondering how to pay the bill.

Daily Surf Report - 5/24/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T.S. Eliot

Mysterious morning with fog settling in and swirling about.  A sinister SW wind putting the bite on the temps and rippling an already unwelcoming ocean surface.  Sun is an enigma presently and may stay reclusive.  Temp is 53F and fills with mist.  Just a steezy mix of sloppy windswells on tap as buoys stay silent and await the new arrival coming next week.  For now we all Try Wait for better conditions.

CHANNEL:   Tide still drop drop dropping to bottomless lows.  What water remains is a janky jumbled joint justified only by the dawn cracking crew that must get wet.  Textured surfaces lend to the allure and waves of non-consequence rise up just above one's knee cap region.  Hoots and hollers were to be heard through the resounding gloom but whether they were of joy or frustration was unclear at present time.

PATCH:  Those waiting for the new S swell have staked their claim in the Patch and likely are about 48 hours early.  Holding steady, smooth and flat this morning as water levels recede and hope fades into oblivion.  A better bet that does bring interest and excitement will be the afternoon into evening tide push which may stack wave heights above the current ankle range.

Daily Surf Report - 5/23/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success." - Swami Sivananda

A welcoming patch of sun signals a prosperous start to the day.  No winds to ruffle feathers or ocean surfaces and temp alive at 56F.  Already lots of people posting up for the long weekend with all manner of aquatic and land based toys to play upon.  Mr. Surf&Swell being rather uncooperative lately with just NW windswell of moderate levels and a fading S on tap today.  Low morning water levels still a limiting factor so check your tide books and plan accordingly.  Still a few puny pieces out there to keep the stoke alive just keep expectations relevant.  Expect crowds upon crowds as the calendar says summer is starting and you must go to the beach.

CHANNEL:   Groin bar and Channel area have bottoming out low tide and nothing but a frothy mix of whitewater and sand.  Fishing looks to be the sport of kings this morning as surf perch dominate the lack of waves here.  Out in front of the boat ramp resides the lone level of waves with knee high left and right peelers that will get your blood pumping and enthusiasm peaked.  Stand and deliver as the waves won't currently allow for much more.  Later morning into the afternoon will see a tide push and should hold some windswell peaks for performance art.

PATCH:  A smooth canvas largely undisturbed by rolling surf.  A beautiful sight to behold as pelicans soar and swoop upon unsuspecting fish.  An owl hoots a forlorn song of lingering and loss.  A deer prances upon the exposed shoreline - looking for a trail up to the forest.  A whisper of the fading south can be heard if not seen as undulations fail to permeate the unbearable silence.

Daily Surf Report - 5/22/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." - John C Maxwell

No surf solace to be found this morning though the temps have climbed to 57F and the sun is breaking through the morning gloom.  A deafening quiet permeates the land and sea as the ocean returns a silent protest.  Water levels continue to be a pesky nuisance as they remain largely below sea level reducing the aquatic playing field exponentially.  Much gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands will occur during the early morning exploratory efforts but hope remains in our hearts and on the horizon.  A small blend of NW windswell and a touch of background S remains active amongst the oceanic depths.  More water will allow for slides to appear but that will take into the early afternoon to fully materialize.

CHANNEL:   Tide continues to drop and relegate the wave potential to real estate best suited for sand castle building and surf casting.  Already micro-sliders registering in at knee high or less will soon be further reduced to less than nothing.  Even the early morning "on it" crew has foregone today in search of better pursuits.  Just out in front is a very small left that may temp loggers yet may be best suited for our RC surfer friend to really shred the gnar.

PATCH:  A lone jousting gentleman of distinction has saddled up his trusty mare and wielding a paddle made of carbon fiber will attempt to do battle with much of nothing.  Flat as can be and low water to add to the current insult.  A day for paddle touring or swimming perhaps but surfing currently is a no go.  More tide will allow the fading S swell to once again spew forth some one hit wonders well outside but that scenario is best played out during the latter parts of the the day.

Daily Surf Report - 5/21/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting of a little water." - Christopher Morley

Temps have risen to a balmy 56F while water levels remain largely below sea level not favoring those looking for morning rides or slides.  A perpetual damp hangs over the village bathing the sphere is a dour mood.  A temperate approach is best utilized this morning as there are rollers with a small amount of push yet many non-aquatic obstacles that must be navigated at all points between.  Hours must pass before any type of tidal push will be realized and all swell pulses are currently wind generated and lack real energy.

CHANNEL:   Nothing but exposed sand as far as the eye can see.  No takers and rightly so as the ocean is quiet here and that speaks volumes.  No water = no waves.  A simple equation that sometimes remains a mystery to many.  More water will invade during the early afternoon but mind the winds as they have been know to pick up and blow things out.

PATCH:  A hint of SW swell seems to be making its presence felt this morning.  Although lacking in water there are waves popping up outside of the meeting rock in the lone deep spot remaining this morning.  A small flock of loggers has claimed this area as their own and are doing the Watusi dance amongst the exposed toothy stones.   Size rears up to knee high and power is lackluster at best but rides are being observed and a distant hoot may have echoed through the canyon.

Daily Surf Report - 5/20/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

“Nonsense and beauty have close connections." - E.M. Forster

A microscopic mist dusts every object with a pervasive damp as the mercury struggles to rise above 48 degrees. An air of malice and menace hangs over the village, as if faint strains of an old TV theme song could be heard. As has been the case over the last 72 hours, the tidal push should provide the forms you seek, but they are not in evidence in the early hours.

CHANNEL:   A quiet desperation, the forgotten words of a long-lost lover, a fading photograph. These are the thoughts of the broken soul as one's gaze turns towards the marker. Some of those seeking stoke braved the higher tides of yesterday's breakers, though with questionable results. Be forewarned.

PATCH: A lone and determined initiate takes a well-worn inside path, dancing through exposed and craggy rock, making something out of this morning's knee-high rollers. There is shape, but as one should have gathered by now, it will take more volume, and more power, to make the masses happy. Find what you can today, friends, for it will be what you make of it.

Daily Surf Report - 5/19/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“The process of delving into the black abyss is to me the keenest form of fascination." - H.P. Lovecraft

Low clouds and heavy damp hangs in the air as if relaying a message from on high as the temps hover round 50 degrees. Light zephyrs this morn, but that is not our largest concern, as many, many yards of sandy beach are observed, and the only slider currently making the effort is controlled by radio, his pilot safely on shore in heavy coat. Current lows equal no-go in the BO-BO, but as the volume fills in, slides and smiles should be on tap.

CHANNEL:   If only words could be found to provide proper descriptions of the utter desolation and emptiness found near the pole in the grey early hours. Solace can be found, but it will be nearer the mid-afternoon high water mark. In the words which form our mantra, "try wait."

PATCH: The peaks of rock are higher than peaks of sea, as the place of meeting takes on the quality of the Matterhorn in current tides. Still an unusual and unsettling sight to see the potato patch free of even those mighty paddlers, but such is what first light reveals today. As stated above, there will be menu offerings, but breakfast service is best avoided for now, the lunch crowd will find more nourishment.

Daily Surf Report - 5/18/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“If we are not our brother's keeper, at least let us not be his executioner." - Marlon Brando

Heavy vibes and low tides as we beg the sun to make itself known this morning. A deceptively chilly 50 degrees with a dense cloud cover as we gaze into quiet seas. More volume is needed currently, but a trio of those wielding paddles are observed disrupting the quiet.

CHANNEL:   Exposed beach crawls beyond the pole and beyond the pale currently. A few lucky canines are the only creatures entering the breakers at this early hour. As the tide fills in, more desirable shapes should fill your field of vision, but have realistic expectations, and be grateful for any offerings on tap today.

PATCH: As a tribe gathers on top of the wall with high hopes for slides, all the heads turn towards the far side of the beach. There are intermittent shapes that give brief glimpses of hope, but these come with momentous lulls in between. The potential is here, the water is not. Practice patience, and keep your eye towards the horizon.

Daily Surf Report - 5/17/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." - Confucius

Gloomy morning with fog keeping the sun out and the cold in. Temperature currently at 50F. Small gusts of wind comes from the NW.  Water coming in very slowly and the turn out shows it. Good day for a long paddle on a big board. Keep your eyes and ears open for better conditions later in the day when more water is present. Hoping things will heat up and the sun will shine, but for now we wait.

CHANNEL:   Low and un-ridden with the groin pole exposed in full erected status. Occasional thigh high rollers working out a ways, not quite to Sea Drift chiming in at knee level. Only a few hunters out right now but they sit and wait for what may or may not come.

PATCH:  Low and slow-calm like the day. A long paddle out will take you to a slow rolling knee high slope. Rides last as long as you can make them before reaching rock territory. Higher tides will add some cushion and possibly push. Hard to say for sure whether or not the size and shape will improve. Afternoons have had positive results and 4* reviews.

Daily Surf Report - 5/16/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece." - John Ruskin

Effervescent morning as patches of clearing sky reveals a mild blue and a temp of 53F.  Vapors rise off still waters as winds have abated overnite.  Wispy clouds above swirl aimlessly amongst the light NW puffs of air.  Few souls have yet to stir and only night creatures realize the value of true serenity  NW windswell remains as your main motivational factor as the S swell eases off.  Less than zero water levels are slowly pushing forward making wave possibility a more reasonable request.  The day is young and shows promise if not consistency.  More water will enhance the aptitude and a positive attitude is yours to keep.

CHANNEL:   Less than palatable peaks currently as water levels remain mysteriously low.  Sand islands appear where surf should be and waves of knee high OR less break effortlessly un-ridden.  The incoming tide will eventually win the battle and allow the NW swell to roll unencumbered across the sandbars.  Look for Mali-Bo to begin working soon and the Channel has has a gloriously smooth peak to split but for now not.

PATCH:  Still has some S swell energy left to deliver but few and far between as early water levels are sub-subterranean.  A pointed dagger of rocks reveals what lies beneath but with no water you will not find slides here.  The inside mini rollers still produce a peak worth the journey and outside is where the better forms migrate.  Much more water is needed and that will take time.  There should still be a day of surf remaining and if you set your hopes low and goals high you may just reach levels above 1.

Daily Surf Report - 5/15/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance." - Plato

A combination of atmospheric factors divining a plethora of surf options this morning.  NW swell mixes and blends with a peaking S swell to formulate rolling peaks that have been groomed overnight by light winds.  Currently overcast and calm with an initial temp of 54F.  Tide is still pushing forward and upwards giving all spots adequate coverage.  Enough to pique your interest and most likely entice a few slides as well.

CHANNEL:   A smoother ocean surface than in recent days and NW swell showing welcome signs with Channel peaks that can be split, divided, multiplied and added.  Mali-Bo rights continue to work on the incoming tide while the Groin bar left has gone into hibernation.  There are still boat ramp waves in front that have form and glassy faces.  Overall size is in the near waist high realm of possibility and the surf window of opportunity is wide open.

PATCH:  SW swell peaking here and the far outside crew is the first to feel the energy as beyond the meeting rock has a nice take off zone.  Smooth and glassy poppers that will rear up from the depths then deliver the ride everyone hopes and dreams about.  A few drops noted near chest high with waist high waves a regular occurrence.  The midway zone shows reforms and radical rides that speed along with less size but more room for flair.  Water levels remain on the positive side for the day and occupying the Patch will reveal a true harmony of ingredients.

Daily Surf Report - 5/14/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
“Knowledge will give you power, but character gives respect." - Bruce Lee

A building conglomeration of NW windswell and a new emerging SW swell has surfers up early and on it with reckless abandon.  A buzz is in the air along with light S winds manipulating the ocean texture a bit. A current balmy temp of 57F has things primed for peak performance. The breaks are waking up a bit and taking advantage of the offerings will bode you well today.

CHANNEL:   Incoming tidal push has things perking up this overcast morning with Mali-Bo peaks popping off and engaging with small right-handers that will beam along the coastal crevices.  A left in the Channel challenges a date with destiny as the Groin pole looms.  A hard u-turn can blend that wave along and make for exponentially long rides.  Size is a relative measure but approaching waist high at times with thigh being more along the norm.  Water levels are rising for only a short period then begins the suck out which may have an adverse effect on current conditions.

PATCH:  The dedicated congregation occupying the Patch has settled in outside and are sharing the SW swell hits that materialize after much waiting but provide a ride worth the time.  Lulls are prevalent but forms that froth forward have waist high capabilities.  Should hold form with water at its maximum, but afternoon lows will cramp the style.
