Daily Surf Report - 8/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"I could not tread these perilous paths in safety, if I did not keep a saving sense of humor." - Horatio Nelson

There's an energy about town today as the sky is grey, the winds are blowing, and the swell is pumping through this morning. Slightly overcast skies are present and bound to lift later in the day as air temps are at 62F and bound to heat up into the 70s later today. SW winds are blowing pretty steadily at 5 knots and are supposed to shift to NW and pick up later in the day. Combo-ing NW and S swells are converging in our little bay this morning producing waist plus waves that may reach head high on the right tide. Will be a tough day for beginners so I suggest to err on the side of caution and know what your limits are. Be safe and ocean minded.

CHANNEL:   Consistent waist high plus waves are breaking with a short interval as a handful of guys are out dealing with an already high rising tide. SW winds are making waves mushy and the surface textured, but they are rideable nonetheless. Over on Seadrift, a few rights are breaking through as they reach across from the walled and closed out middle channel. In front of the groin pole, or more to the right of it, lefts are coming through breaking in the waist to chest range with some standout sets in the head high range. All sorts of water craft will work today, just be aware of the tidal rips and size.

PATCH:   Lines on the horizon, lines on the shore. The swell is easily seen here as waves are breaking way outside the meeting rock and all the way in to the Snags section. Many of the waves are a bit mushy right now and roll more than break all the way to the inside section. That said, waves are plentiful in the waist to chest range and the rollers are still standing up enough to glide on in. Bring your magic stick and see whats in store or just have fun getting slammed in the shore-break.
