Daily Surf Report - 3/16/2013
In-store Shaper Event:
David Vernor, the man behind Vernor surfboards, will be in the shop TODAY, 3/16/2013, from 10am to 12pm. This is a great opportunity to talk boards and design with a local shaper. Dave will bring a few new shapes including the Pitbull and Silver Bullet 2. Come by to talk surf or browse the rack of in-stock boards. We have Mini Simmons, shortboards, hybrids, eggs, Mini-Mals, HP longboards and Classic Noseriders in the shop. Always hand-made from start to finish in Santa Cruz.
Clear, cool and calm with a temp of 47F and low level fog burning off. Patches of blue sky peeking through here and there. Mild temps and good weather expected for the weekend. Rain starts Wednesday! Very little swell today and outgoing tide is sucking the life out of the ocean. A few rollers pop up and can be ridden but incoming tide will help shape and size later in the morning. Lots of beach and exposed rocks for your exploration. Great day for beginnners so come out and rent a board.
CHANNEL: Low tide has it fairly well shut down now but again over on Seadrift the rights are working a bit and will improve with the incoming tide and more water. Channel picked up a bit in the later part of the morning and early afternoon yesterday and that should be the same today. Getting wet and riding waves will take a bit of effort today to find the right mysto peak. Give it a look and dont fear the crossing paddle. Size looks to be thigh high at best. Lots of beach and sand bars exposed.
PATCH: Again smooth and glassy outside peaks and a few insiders at the Snags. Small and loggable and size probably goes knee to thigh high. Big boards will get into waves and the tide change will help as well. Grab the big big board and glide the morning away. Incoming tide with cover the exposed rocks but that will take a while.
PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.
