Daily Surf Report - 4/30/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Success is having to worry about every damn thing in the world, except money." - Johnny Cash

Good Morning everyone and welcome to the middle of the week! HOLY BEANS! It's already 68 degrees here at the beach and it promises to heat right up to the low 80's later! There is a very small amount of a South that someone left lying around out in the water so who ever finds it today it's "finder's keepers." It's a great day to explore, hike, swim or do the Hully Gully.

CHANNEL: The sand bars are so exposed right now that they look like lost, little islands and if you squint you can see Gilligan waving back at you. Below thigh undulations that are slurping through for the three hour tour. No one here as I write this.

PATCH: Even with this low tide, with a long enough wait, waaaaaay outside of the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock but just before the Farrollon Islands there is a waist high peak that comes through. Not super clean but oh, what a wonderful morning to be in the water. Five (5) longboards and one (1) janitor board so far out there I think he might be fishing.

Daily Surf Report - 4/29/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
Today you are you! That is true-er than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!" - Dr. Seuss

Good Morning to each and every one of you earth dwellers and welcome to another sunny and clear morning here at the beach. It's currently 55 degrees and promises to warm up as the day progresses. the sun is up with it's New York brim and it's gold toothed display and no one messes with it because it knows it has it made...it's bad...it's world wide (yes, appropriated from the ZZ Top tune). The treat here today is that, for the time being there is hardly any wind and a midgen of that South (with a teeny combo of West) that is still vaguely out there. So, call in sick at work, ditch class or make a jail break because what little is left is going to be gone before you know it.

CHANNEL: The Channel has been behaving funny lately and I don't mean "ha ha" funny either. Sand bars are not shaping up and the swells that have been arriving in town just don't seem too interested in breaking cleanly on such unmade undulations. However, for the time being the Channel is letting a few waist (+/-) curling pearls come on through this morning. The Mali-Bo bar is giving the occasional right and that 'mystery' left that's sorta' overlapping it on the Sea Drift side is popping off a few here-and-there as well... and let's not forget the Groin Pole. Some lefts are chiming in as well. Five/six (5/6) there now on logs, shorties and the always present janitor tug boat.

PATCH:   With this dwindling South the Patch is STILL trying to out do it's cousin over at the Channel. The family rivalry is still in play as there are waist (+/-) section-y wedges that are lolling in outside of the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock. And as typical of this spot, some break left, some break right, some break both ways, some don't break at all. But this little wave seems to be going Wee Wee Wee all the way home. Six/seven (6/7) on log-age giving it a whirl as I write this.

Daily Surf Report - 4/28/2014

We will be closing early tonight, however we will re-open tomorrow morning at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can." - Cary Grant

Good Morning to all of you creatures of liquid salt realities. It's another fine beginning to another (hopefully) fine week. Oh, yes that lucky old sun is indeed rolling around heaven all day as the birds are singing the same tune, ala NOLA's own Louis 'Pops' Armstrong. Yeah, yeah... I know some of you are probably reading this and saying, "Hey! wait a second. Louis Armstrong's nickname was 'Satchmo!'" And you'd be right.... if you're not a musician. As all of the musicians who knew him, or in my case musicians that didn't know him personally but still dwell within that musical world, we referred to him as 'Pops,' and the civilians called him Satchmo. Ah, what we learn on a surf report. Yes, more useless trivia grafiti in which to spray paint on the walls of your mind. Which brings me to; there is indeed a little attention getter riding the dog in from the South. Couple that with a stiff but manageable off-shore breeze, all you need to do is remember to take a couple of extra strokes to enter into that oh-so-coveted slide-to-paradise. The call today is grab a hydrodynamic craft of your liking, snap on the neoprene and glide, slide and ride.

CHANNEL: Oddly shaped but still trying to give a ride-able waist high (+/-) wedge in which to glide upon. The Sea Drift area code as well as the middle 'Mali-Bo' bar are working a bit. The Groin Pole is also a temping spot to work on boosting air if your plank is of a certain, small scale dimension. Only four or five (4-5) are spread out around there now.

PATCH:  Sometimes the good 'ol Clam Patch has something fun to offer. Today's sale items are as follows; A nice waist (+/-) right and/or left is offered outside of the Meeting Rock/Rock/Bulk Head as well as the Snags with the occasional zippy right. Even 'Mysto's' is throwing down an occasional waist-to-shoulder right hander that this writer had the fortune of gliding upon all by his lonesome a handful of times this very morning. Seven-eight (7/8) bipeds out there now. Hurry, while limited supplies last.

Daily Surf Report - 4/27/2014

We will be closing early tonight, however we will re-open tomorrow morning at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Captian Cook? Now THERE was a guy with bad timing..." - Cousin Mike

Good Morning to all of you desperados de olas! It's a windy, drizzling morning here at the beach. It's a typical 54 degrees in this non-typical weather pattern we are currently experiencing. On shore winds are howling like Howlin' Wolf singing 'Evil' (look it up. great tune) and janking the joint up. I know you drove all the way from (your town here) and it's your day off, but as my late mother used to say. "Man plans. God laughs." If anything should change for the positive today I'll be sure to throw down the 411 right here...if not, I won't.

CHANNEL: Even with the tide push it's pretty mushy and chaotic... sorta' like an outdoor mosh-pit on a rainy day. Knee high slop is getting tossed through the Channel like farmer Neptune feeding the hogs. No one here as of yet but finally figuring out how the newbie mindset works this vacant area of water should be filled within minutes.

PATCH:  A thigh-high hot mess! Total 'Victory at Sea' situation with drunk and unorganized chop. Yet, this isn't stopping several log enthusiasts from attempting to surf in a stink-bug fashion along the briney sea. Style and good judgement isn't always ones strong suit. Five/six (5/6) dreamers out now.

Daily Surf Report - 4/26/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” -Japanese Proverb

Sliver moon, shiver moon plus one star early this morning.   A good omen for the day.  Cool at 47F but back in business with nice weather and full sunshine this morning.  Building mix of NW wind swell of decent size and SW ground swell of long period.  This usually translates to surf in most places.  Consulting your crystals and engaging their power may help clarify the buoy readings.  Those that believe score and get waves.  Those that don't miss life's opportunities.  Crystal reading and high tea begin at noon today.  Should be a great day at the beach today.  Winds are very lightly offshore - keeping it real.  Good tides and plenty of sand so strap it on and get wet.

CHANNEL: Incoming tide has some waves leering and rearing up from the Groin bar depths.  Popping up and working left and right.  A bit section-y but rideable and waist high in size.  Sandbars have shifted and moved.  They are a bit finicky at the moment so you may need to re-evaluate your Channel position to get the waves you want.  Crystal directional finders are available for rent in the shop if you need help.

PATCH:  Glistening and glassy morning with a very low human to sea creature ratio.  This is the good stuff.  Pelicans in formation, curious seals and a nice pod of dolphins to round things out.  Pulses of S swell showing here with the higher tide.  Fun rights that are waist high to Corgis, ferrets and other marsupials.  Mind the kelp and rock boils and yield to Neptune on the inside.  Outside peaks roll and burger.  Inside peaks run and race.  Connect the dots and score long log rides.  As in jokes and life - timing is everything.  Turning things over to PTKook and BRay now but there should be waves into the afternoon before tide gets too low.

Daily Surf Report - 4/25/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it...If you have made mistakes, even serious mistakes, there is always another chance for you. And supposing you have tried and failed again and again, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.” - Mary Pickford

April showers - moderate a times, light at times.  A fairly weak system but we may see on and off showers through the weekend.  Let it wash away the hurt and pain and hate and begin anew with a fresh and blooming perspective.  Let it ease you into a paradigm consciousness shift.  Perspective is everything and a positive one is always nice.  Wash your crystals and explore their energy.  Take some in and absorb the power.

Obviously overcast with light rain falling.  Not to bad on the wind situation but it is there and textur-izing the ocean a bit.  Temp is 55F at the moment.  Just local WNW wind-swell but something is on the way and we should start to see precursors tonight and in effect on Saturday.  Moderate sized SW groundswell on the way and will combo up with the NW swell expected to build today.  Tally ho as it could be a fun surf weekend especially if the winds stay light.

CHANNEL: Incoming tide about to peak but has the Groin bar at Mali-Bo working a little bit.  Rights that reel towards shore.  Size is almost waist high here.  They are fast and furious and most dump and close out before too long but you can ride them on everything from handplanes, to plastic trays and even surfboards if you so desire.

PATCH:  Scattered peaks for logs and SUPs.  Not too clean but rideable none-the-less.  Thigh to almost waist high rolling rights and 4 surfers spread out here already.  Tide is good and sand has really shifted around all over the beach.  Explore new possibilities and cross-step lightly.

Daily Surf Report - 4/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The bird, a nest; the spider, a web; man, friendship.” - William Blake

This one goes out to all the haters in the house.  The movers and shakers, the poppers and breakers, the money-makers.  The hazy and lazy, the hipster and dipsters.  Those in the know and those that want to know, those that think they know and those that will never know.  The in crowd, the out crowd, the in-betweeners, the schemers, screamers and dreamers.  The old and young, the crusty and vibrant, those just getting by and those living the dream.

Take in that deep breath and fill your lungs.  Expand your chest.  Hold it in.  Meditate and contemplate the day ahead.  Let it out and see things with new eyes - the way it should be.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Gratitude is the sign of noble souls." - Aesop

It's been pointed out to me by several patrons and followers of the 2-Mile blog for months now that they are growing tired of my long, lame attempts at humor and descriptions on this blog. They claim that they generally have a hard time deciphering what I am writing and wish that I'd just get to the point of the conditions. Fair enough. Though more than one of us writes this report, I will take responsibility for my part in it and from here on out will attempt to eliminate my brand of obtuse humor and, with exception of this explanation, will pare down my observations to "just the facts," ala Dragnet (1960's TV show). As for the pictures of the crystals... well, that is mandated from the top in which I have absolutely NO control over. Okay...here goes;

Wednesday. Sunny. Temp;54 degrees. Stiff side shore to off shore breeze. Small surf.

CHANNEL:  Waist to below unorganized close outs. No one out.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A lot of people don't want to make their own decisions. They're too scared. It's much easier to be told what to do." - Marilyn Manson

Are you a surfer? Do you want to be a surfer? Well, if the answer to this question is YES, then look no further than this special offer we have for you! Right here in our little beach hamlet we have a glorious sunny morning with a cool-ish temperature of 53 degrees, birds of all kinds singing in the key of whatever musical talent and genre you wish! But wait, that's not all...We even have a little bit of swell (also known as, "waves") filtering through for YOUR enjoyment! How much would you pay for such a wonderful and fantastic morning experience? $100? $200? $16.37 and a 20% off Shake & Bake coupon? Well, how about paying absolutely *NOTHING (unless you are renting gear)! That's right! You read that correctly! *NOTHING! We could have YOU in 52 degree water with a slight (soon to build) on-shore breeze with marginal surfing conditions FASTER than YOU can Julian french fries! Hard to believe? You bet it is! AND, as a special offer for those who act NOW, we will throw in, ABSOLUTELY FREE a 'High-Five' or the always popular, 'Shaka!'
So, what are you waiting for? Operators are standing by.

*(You pay nothing to surf except gas and time, UNLESS you are renting gear from the shop. Then the $$ of the folding kind will most definitely apply).

CHANNEL:  Do you like Sloppy Joe's? Boy-oh-boy! Mm, mm! Who doesn't...unless it's directly involved in your surfing experience then it's just sloppy. That's what the Channel is serving up this morning. More waist-to-occasional-chest high white water churners that resemble a run down the Grand Canyon as opposed to surfing. Could change later...? Nobody there as I write this.

PATCH:  Lines are coming in just like on a mirror at a Hollywood party circa 1985 way outside, as the tide is going out for Chinese food. Three (3) logs are out there now chopping wood. Some are make able and some are not. The wind will definitely screw the pooch here later, so if you're going to do this I suggest doing it now. TIMBER!

Daily Surf Report - 4/21/2014

We will most certainly be closing early today. We will re-open tomorrow morning at 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I believe entertainment can aspire to be art, and can become art, but if you set out to make art you're an idiot." - Steve Martin

Good morning and welcome to the beginning of another wonderful week. The sun is up and there are some cumulus sticking onto the highest reaches of the ceiling this morning. The temperature is buzzing in at a chilly 55 degrees here in this little fishing village by the bay, as there is also an off-shore breeze blowing pretty hard in the key of Dizzy Gillespie, so wearing something to cover your ear holes out there today would be recommended (hood, squid-lid, or even a decent pair of ear plugs). There is still something left in the H2O since this past weekend but not as sizable, nor as clean. Today is going to be more of a judgement call on if it's worth going in or not.

CHANNEL:  Waist-to-almost-chest high but it's sloppier than a Capp Street Ho. Nothing is breaking clean as it's predominately close-outs and white water rides. The sand bars are closed and apparently serving no more drinks. Even the Barney Army was out earlier but, hey they'll try to surf anything! Maybe later? No one, and I mean NO ONE is there as I write this.

PATCH:  Still some bump in the rump left out here. WAAAAY outside of the Rock/Meeting Rock/Bulk Head there is a waist + left (sometimes right) but it sections like all get-out and when it hits the hole on the beach side of the Rock/Meeting Rock/Bulk Head it lays back and almost pulls a Houdini and disappears. The Snags are working a bit as well but the surf is a bit choppy and a little bit of a cross swell is in it as well which can render waves almost square at the tops making it quite frustrating to actually drop in to. So, look out for the rocks as the tide is checking out for part of the day as of now. Five (5) logs on it now. Catching some, missing most. Ugh!

whew....okay, okay, okay (snort) HA HA HA...okay, okay, okay...where was I? heh heh heh...................................man.....I'm a little hungry.....wonder if I could get a pizza delivered?

CHANNEL:  Ahoy all ye sea dogs and salty creatures of the brine. 'Tis a fine, fine mornin' here at ye old Channel as the emerald gems are a whompin'in at around ye waist-to-the-off chance at ye chest, then and again. Mind ye footing though as not a lot of these are breakin' clean, if ye catch my drift. Still, a whole chest of gold worth o' fun to be had. Grab ye vessel of choice and take to the high seas, matey. Many pirates are out there now on every conceivable craft that can be used.

PATCH:  The tide is doing another John Moore-pants-to-the-floor as it's dropping plenty fast, but that's not stopping the swell as it's still Hollywood swangin' out there, I jive you not. Waist high and below rollers are there for the taking. Many logs and custodial gear are out there already. Even the Barney Army is represented. Don't think, just go.

Wake   Stretch   Read   Brew   Snarf&Gulp   BrushBrush   Dress   Driv e  Look  Listen   Learn   Watch   Check   Discern   Evaluate   Consolidate   Decide   Act  Enjoy.

Sunny weather this glorious Easter weekend.  Shomer Shabbos in effect as well so no bowling allowed - unless it is an emergency.  Calm winds, clear skies and quiet morning.  Temp a glistening 50F.  Big NW swell is coming along with the Easter Bunny tomorrow.  Today remains small and meager with the low tide and small and moderate as the tide fills in.  NW windswell and a little S are still in play for the day.  Take the least and make it the most.  Get the big boards out and ride waves.

CHANNEL:  Shipstern knee crunchers as the negative tide nears.  Plenty of sand and little water make it hit and miss at best.  Seadrift bars do seem to show more potential but obviously more water is required and that will take some time.  Again the late morning into the afternoon/evening has the best potential but the morning is beautiful and you can find a wave if you try.  Get the sandcastles built now and ride waves later.  3-4 in the water now.

PATCH:  Grrrrrrrrr full of exposed rocks this morning as tide drops below sea level.  S swell trying to work out by the meeting rock but just not enough water at this time.  Try wait for the tide to fill in and then hit it with reckless abandon.  Size ranges from calf to knee if and when it breaks.

“It's not so much how busy you are, but why you are busy. The bee is praised. The mosquito is swatted.” - Mary Flannery O'Connor

Happy TGIF as we roll into this holiday weekend.  Get those eggs painted and ready, call all the relatives to gather for Sunday brunch, chop your beets and kale, put your crystal encrusted Adidas kicks on and have a great day.  We have sunny skies and an initial temp of 54F with higher temps expected.  No wind and surf has kicked up a notch into the rideable category.  Mostly a blend of that NW windswell but there is a little S swell sneaking in the back that can combo up and deliver waves.  Not EPIC but working even on a very low tide.

CHANNEL:  How low can you go asks the tide.  Still another hour until it hits bottom which is below sea level.  Secret sandbars on the Stinson side are still under water and working in the thigh high size range.  The swell has come up a bit and the water will soon follow.  Late morning into the afternoon / evening shows best potential but the morning is beautiful and you can find a wave if you try.  Plenty to enjoy both on the beach or in the water today.  Ho Brah - big boards work best.

PATCH:  Almost all  rocks are exposed so shield your eyes and mind your toes.  S swell showing out at the meeting rock with visible and rideable waves in the thigh high + size.  1 SUP on it and a few surfers giving it the stink eye on the wall.  Great stuff for the log and the coconut wireless reported good conditions yesterday afternoon on the higher tide.  It works now and will work better later.  Jump in and get a few today.

Daily Surf Report - 4/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.” - Henry Van Dyke

Super beautiful morning here in Bolinas today.  Full sunshine, no wind, temp already in at 56F and plenty of sandy beach to roam and romp.  Superlatively flat surf conditions currently with a negative low tide making its way back to sea level and beyond.  There is moderate NW windswell on the buoys today and not much else.  The Easter Bunny is coming soon and so might a new swell.

CHANNEL:  All sandbars exposed and at the ready.  Requires lots more water and a touch of swell to produce waves.  We have none of those currently.  Give it time - how long is anyone's guess, and there might be waves later today.  As of now it is flat and you can almost walk across the Channel to visit any friends or foxes you might know over at Stinson.

PATCH: Many exposed rocks and very microscopic surf today.  Possibly not even rideable yet as water levels are very low.  Not stopping the barnacle crew from giving it a looong look.  Have coffee now.  Ride waves later.

Daily Surf Report - 4/16/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A fool and his money are soon elected." - Will Rogers

Good morning and welcome to the middle of the week. Boy-o-boy, what a gorgeous morning it is to be sure! The sun is up and putting on a display that is only second to the show the full moon gave us here last night. It's currently a cooler-than-one-would-think 53 degrees BUT, it will warm up in the zip code of the high 70's later today. The surf conditions are almost flat. What is bumping up isn't really breaking but it could always change AND, as I said before it's a beautiful morning. Hiking, biking, holding hands with a loved one or touring on a SUP. It's all in the cards today but only you can decide which one to play.

CHANNEL:  Knee-high close-outs are janking the place up here AGAIN! The Northern chapter of the Barney Army were here and claiming otherwise but I have eyes (four of 'em) and 25 minutes of observation says otherwise. Maybe later with the tide-turnaround could yield something of merit. Two (2) remaining soldiers of the Barney Army trying to ride the white water. WOOOO!

PATCH: Teeny lines that do not break. Maybe later? No one here and for good reason.
