Daily Surf Report - 12/31/2014

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"I drank coffee and read old books and waited for the year to end." - Richard Brautigan

A bright and balmy morning here in BO, with 44 degrees and gentle SE breezes blowing through the pines. Glassy and beautiful, like skyscrapers in the city sun, as no shape of consequence takes hold. Not a single soul in the chilly waters this AM, as there are no ripples on which to slide and shake.

CHANNEL:  The gentle ebb is a sight to ponder, but not one on which to boogie. The rare wiggle of a foot or more is visible, but only at frightening intervals. There are so many experiences on which to feast on a day such as this, but sliding is not one of those.

PATCH:  Silence and light shines on, as there are are no shapes on which to dance. May the New Year bring you every happiness.

Daily Surf Report - 12/30/2014

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

"What we are reluctant to touch often seems the very fabric of our salvation." - Don DeLillo

A bright and unflinching sunlight falls on our village bringing 44 degrees and a breeze of consequence along. Though it is a beautiful day by all standard definitions, to those that ride on the sea, there is a foreboding disappointment. Very little to even convey my friends, as only the pelicans are sitting upon the glassy breakers currently. With even heavier winds arriving as the day moves on, time may be better spent on other outdoor activities...

CHANNEL:  Wind spits the crest off shin-high slow curlers as shadows fall over the groin marker this morning. The rising sun shines forth, illuminating nothing. Don't think twice, it's alright.

PATCH:  So much of the same to report. No sliders, no SUP, no shirt, no shoes, no service. Heavier winds and vibes on the way, with little room for optimism.

Daily Surf Report - 12/29/2014

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:

"There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot." - John Cage

A cloudless 39 degrees and light offshore winds find the BO in good spirits this morning. The tides are allowing for clear access and have even seen fit to expose a bit of beach. Glassy water is making for very mellow conditions, but that has not limited multiple sliders from being in and about. One-to-two feet at the peak, but long and lean are making some sliders quite content. However, as the winds pick up past mid day, the AM hours may offer the best options.

CHANNEL:  Alas, my lovelies, our channel looks beautiful in the burgeoning light, but this is all she offer to us currently, a gaze of longing. As tides recede even further throughout the morning, expectations are low and this patch of paradise remains free of eggs and logs as of now.

PATCH:  Despair not, however, as small but slideable rights are in the mix and a baker's dozen are having a go. Again, the morning hours offer the most hope, as the winds and tides do not play to the strengths of our fair jetty. Get here and get in early, for as the sand falls through the glass, so do the chances for sliding...

Daily Surf Report - 12/28/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today." - Mark Twain

Balmy and beautiful as the temp climbs to 39F and the skies are streaked with red cumulus clouds.  Sunshine and potential are on tap for the day as a new NW swell starts to arrive and the background S swell adds flavor to the mix.  Again no winds and glassy ocean.  Wave size remains small as the tide heads low but beach access is plentiful and our spirits are resilient with hope for more surf. There is no reason not to get wet as we rely on Mark Twain to lead us forward to greatness.

CHANNEL:  Burgeoning bumps that will break as necessary.  Outgoing tide has the water levels getting low but helping the mini lefts off the Groin that rear up to thigh high.  It is rideable at least and slideable at best.  Suited for amateurs and those seeking solace in an empty lineup.  May need the incoming tide and swell to fill in a bit more to have lusty appeal but there are waves to catch and the day is beach worthy.

PATCH:  High tide early birds taking advantage of the latest push.  Rights are breaking and have been observed up to waist high and eminently smooth.  Mostly small stuff mid-way and inside at the Snags but enough to get all the longboards pointing towards the beach and sliding waves.  A moderate crowd of 12+ now with more en route.  Low tide is not too low but mind the boils as rocks lurk beneath.

Daily Surf Report - 12/27/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." - Confucius

Brisk and brilliant morning with skies streaked red and blue.  No winds.  Temp plummets to 35F and covers the ground with crystal diamonds of frost.  Water temp remains around 58F however so still warm if you take a dip.  Most of the presents have been unwrapped and the clean up begins.  All of the holiday swell has evaporated leaving us with warm memories and renewed hope yet little surf in the below knee category.  Morning low tides make getting to the beach a breeze but mind the afternoon high as returns can be dicey.  A great day to get out and about.  Hiking, biking and surfing may be on the list today.

CHANNEL:  Flat-ish with occasional offerings of below knee high lefts.  Enticing as the lineup is currently empty.  Confounding as the size and energy has greatly diminished.  Confusing as a new dose of NW swell is expected and greatly anticipated.  Make the most of what little there is now as tomorrow holds no promises.

PATCH:  Glassy and clean.  Bordering on lake-like conditions with very small almost-waves appearing like mirages.  Looks rideable with a big board.  Also looks ankle high + in size.  Dare to be the first and dominate the dojo.  Have yourself a solo expression session and turn that frown upside down.

Daily Surf Report - 12/26/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy." - Anton Chekhov

Frisky and frosty morning conditions as temp pops in at 38F.  Crystalline covered hills with full sunshine bursting through.  A grandiose day in many aspects.  Fully fading NW swell and just a whisper of S in the water giving us glorious micro-sliderish conditions today.  Winds are offshore and today looks like a great day to get out and about and enjoy the holiday time off.  Waves are like presents from the ocean and should be enjoyed to their fullest capacity.

CHANNEL:  Offshore spray and 2' waves mark the day.  Tide is low and lots of beach is visible and accessible which has been a rare sight.  Groin bar waves working sliding left and holding up a bit with the help of the wind.  Looking good for longboards right now and incoming tides may push things to new levels.  Show reverence for the offerings and take part in the fun.

PATCH:  Ankle breakers and knee shakers of the variety popular to the Patch.  Hints of S swell may be a Santa delivery and waves to ride are available to the log jam sect.  Sunny with superb scenery here as well and the incoming tide won't hurt a bit.

Daily Surf Report - 12/24/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"There are no facts, only interpretations." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Misty morning hops with a rain chaser on on the menu today. 55 and steady showers on the way make for a heavy tea and sympathy vibration. Many, many people perched on foam, glass, and hope waiting on a gift from St. Nick. The issue today is that they are doing exactly that; waiting. Mid calf whitewater is the only gift being given today, with conditions not set to improve with the tides. Viewings of  your favorite holiday classics and eggnog made with love and cheer are a better option...

CHANNEL:  How many surfers does it take to not catch any slides? One-to-two foot with a side of sloppy and choppy. If you  enjoy a crowded line-up with far from ideal conditions, come on in.

PATCH: Very similar to that which has been discussed and debated. Not much to be had, but that is clearly stopping no one. SUP and down with extra hot sauce. Please watch the tides, and understand the currents. You'll shoot your eye out.

Daily Surf Report - 12/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Adventure without risk is Disneyland." - Douglas Coupland

A mix of mist and an emerging sun finds our village at 51 degrees and rising. Several dozen sliders taking advantage before the high waters turn the boat ramp into the Khyber Pass. Chest high and slightly steeper than the standard sliders this morning. All areas have room for improvement, so choose wisely today my friends, as offshore winds should provide both early AM and late afternoon vectors.

CHANNEL:  Currently solid and mildly consistent at waist-to-torso and holding. This will ebb and flow with the king tides as the morning rolls away. Watch the rips and mind the currents children, she is full sweetness and light, but can send you on quite a journey today.

PATCH: A mellow swell blazing through the patch, and more bodies in the line-up than in weeks previous, although that has more to do with the time of season than favorable conditions. As the waters pound the seawall, expect a washing out of rides and slides.

Daily Surf Report - 12/22/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Every moment is a golden one for him who has vision to recognize it as such." - Henry Miller

Mostly clear skies this morning as the fog continues to burn off our small piece of heaven. 52 degrees with whimsical breezes from the northwest are making for some action in the water this morning, although as the tide continues to barrel in, access becomes the biggest challenge. Mid-torso sets are visible, but seawall spray diffuses the sunlight as the boat ramp becomes a spillway. Watch the tides with determined eye and full heart.

CHANNEL:  A small handful of sliders seen bobbing this fair morning , but that number will decrease as the water is rapidly becoming too high. Waist-to-chest high can be had, but they are few and far between. Again, vigilance is the answer for today's question.

PATCH:  Minimal swell as paddles are spotted and dotted. Overall height topping out at mid-thigh at best. Even as the high waters diminish towards mid-afternoon, this space may not be the place.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"What do you know about the compass?" -Anonymous

Still and calm air to start off the day. Lots of water coming up the boat ramp and more on its way. Tide is on the rise and will get high. Fog hanging over the bay as the sun struggles to peak through.

CHANNEL:  Looking smooth so far. Waist high rollers coming around. Getting bigger with the incoming tide. Around waist high at the moment. More powerful than usual, know your limits and ride some waves.

PATCH:  Not a lot happening right  now, only a few loner waves. Water crashing against the wall and up the stairs. Looks like a long journey out.

Daily Surf Report - 12/20/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Desire nothing, give up all desires and be happy." - Swami Sivananda

No rain.  No wind.  Big NW swell ready to go.  Currently too much water to really make an impression but if the winds stay light the lower tides could really show off later today.  There will be strong currents and lots of water moving around - know your limits!  Current temp is 54F and clearing skies are probable today.  Tide still peaking with lots of boat ramp dumpers delivering water up to the street.  Mind your dry feet as most observers are getting a bit wet.  Positivity and potential rule the day but timing will ultimately prevail.  Lots of ins and outs and what-have-yous associated with today's conditions.  Complex.

CHANNEL:  Smoothing out as winds die off.  Thick rollers coming through but being hampered by the extreme high tide.  Straight off and outside the Groin pole is where the pack sits.  Might be worth a sneak inside to check Mali-Bo as it likes the incoming tide and runs into shallow water which will cause waves to break.  Size probability is waist to chest if a real wave gets ridden but for now lots of bobbing and weaving in the soup trying to find a happy spot.

PATCH:  Not generating much activity here yet with the higher tides and NW swell direction.  The getting there will be half the fun and wall waves are breaking up and onto the stairs.  Enjoy the solitude and if you score waves they will be yours to relish.

Daily Surf Report - 12/19/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions." - Dalai Lama

Torrential downpour assaulting our coastal hamlet this morning with great vengeance and furious anger.  Significant moisture falling and again flooding roadways with mud, water and vegetation.  Take it slow and take it easy today.  Make time to take time and you will get there in 1 piece.  Also on tap are S winds and if you have any knowledge of positive surf conditions they are currently not present.  Find another activity today to quench your watery thirst and wait for waves to hopefully soon return.  Expect the shop to have limited business hours today.

CHANNEL:  Wind whipped and white-capped.  Victory at sea conditions.  In a nutshell - NO.

Daily Surf Report - 12/18/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf." - Rabindranath Tagore

Time stands still as we have another morning of misty hills and clearing skies.  No rain today and sunny conditions are expected.  Tide has peaked and is delivering kelpy ramp swampers while the wind is moderately South.  Not an epic combo of conditions at this point in the morning.  2 determined surfers in the water and 2 suiting up in the lot.  Still have the NW swell in play so get what's there to be got before it goes away.

CHANNEL:  An emerging wave has been noted in the Channel.  Supreme high tide not deterring the efforts to break and roll towards shore before being swallowed by the deepest depths.  The drop can be made and the size is waist high.  The length of the ride is short but the tide has started to turn and head out and this will help clean things up for the better.  Time your entrance and exit wisely and there are concrete distractions along the way.  Find a few waves now and more later - if the wind stays light.

PATCH:  Too much tide and not a proper swell direction has derailed the Patch again.   Little positive to say about the area other than it exists under much brown water and does not look like a surf spot today.

Daily Surf Report - 12/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction." - William Blake

Another misty morning near the sea as temps hover around 52 and the forecast is not one of promise. Currently 10-15MPH winds are playing hopscotch with the boat ramp, and access is limited by spray and agony. Only one soul climbing languidly from the churning this morning, wearing an expression of grim determination.

CHANNEL:  The water spins and coughs in the channel this morning, but inconsistency in the only constant. Sliding could be had only by an expert's eye and a sadist's patience. The afternoon shows some promise as the tide recedes, but the coming rain and onshore winds may have other designs.

PATCH:  Again, a sandy, brownish, gumbo is all the might await you this morning, as conditions are rather grim. Although we would all like to have a wonderful day of sliding about, today is not that day my friends...

Daily Surf Report- 12/16/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"It's just the way it changes, like the shoreline and the sea." - Leonard Cohen

A rare turning sunshine falls upon our village this morning, but it is not due to last my friends. Currently 53 degrees with moderate cross winds, due to turn to rain and 20MPH onshore in the coming hours. Ebb tides are currently making access a dicey proposition, and once in the water, not much to be had I'm afraid.

CHANNEL:  Minimal activity past the groin marker this morning, like a Philip Glass symphony, hypnotic, but not made for dancing. Mid- thigh at it's highest and wind-blown at it's strongest.

PATCH:  Not a soul braving the elements this morning, as the breakers roll in alone, solitary and unwelcoming. Cross winds are creating a choppy festival of waist-high slop, filled with sand and not much else. I truly hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but in the words of the master "Try Wait"...

Daily Surf Report - 12/15/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Face the facts of being what you are, for that is what changes what you are." - Soren Kierkegaard

It is indeed time to face facts and with a chilly 52 degrees, a steady and persistent rain, and cross winds upwards of 20 MPH, those facts to not paint a pretty picture if wave sliding was on the agenda for today. Mid-level tides creating a silty stew of the boat ramp, with entrance and exit proving difficult this morning. Not even the strongest of the strange are attempting a session under these conditions....

CHANNEL:  Where so many of us seek peace, this morning finds only choppy chaos. As the tides recede, things don't look to improve. Waist-to-chest high on occasion, but largely inaccessible.

PATCH:  Slightly better situation in the patch this morning, but again, access in the primary concern. Some sliding may be had later this afternoon, but the zephyrs would have to calm considerably. Finish baking the holiday cookies and cakes my friends, as today is without much promise.

Daily Surf Report - 12/14/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"It's my birthday."- Maurace Zetino

Very sunny and bright this morning and a very cool temp at 51F.  Lots of water on the way out, making for a semi-foggy drive out. Tide is dropping but still lots of water on the beach. Gorgeous and clear skies with just a touch of wind blowing through. Already a crowd gathering in the Channel and still a few people out in the Patch. Why not hop in?

CHANNEL:  Long lines coming through the Channel at decent speeds. Waist high range but not super clean. Looks fun for everyone, as the waves are getting some good use. Jump in and join the growing crowd.

PATCH:  Not as good as yesterday, a few thigh high rollers coming in with the current out going tide. Looking fun but a little sloppy. Lots of water still but emptying out a little soon. Not much beach to work with out there but plenty of water.
