Daily Surf Report - 9/30/2011

2:45pm Update:
Sun is now out and it is warming up nicely. Tide is very high and surf is soft.

Summer where'd you go? We were just getting to know each other.

Overcast and balmy this morning with light mist. Current temp is 60F. Winds are light and onshore but not effecting ocean too much.

Channel: Low tide logging in the Channel looks to be working. Waves are in the thigh high size but still coming through and working off the 2 bars. Nothing spectacular but waves to be had and longboards will get in best. Seadrift has some workable rights as well.

Patch: Not working yet. Inside waves in the knee high size. Afternoon has had surf with more water but right now the Patch is quiet.

New surf mats from Krypt and Mark Thomson are available to demo/rent. If you have tried boogie boarding and body surfing this is the next level of prone wave riding. We have varying shapes and sizes to match your needs. Come check out Vito, Sonny, Michael and Freddo for a dose of something new.

Just a reminder to pack your trash!!! PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Tides:
Low: 7:36 am 2.0'
High: 2:00 am 6.6'
Low: 8:35 pm -0.7'

We are now open daily from 9am - 6pm for our Summer hours from MAY through OCTOBER. Come out to rent if you need gear. We have a full selection of suits, boots, boards and SUPs to rent every day and are only 522 steps to the beach.

If your are in need of a new suit or board now is the time to pick something up as we are fully stocked with new gear. The rack has everything from Mini Simmons, fishes and eggs to classic longboards. We also have plenty of wetsuits, hoods, gloves and booties for your cold water surfing.

Daily Surf Report - 9/29/2011

Blanket of fog enveloping the town. Light winds and slight textured ocean. Low visibility but waves have come up a bit from yesterday. Temp is currently 57F and patches of sun were visible on the drive out. Inland temps will stay hot and beach should be mild and nice with a few waves as well.

Channel: More regular surf hitting on the Channel bar and at Seadrift. Has more North in it and is waist high or slightly better when the angle is right. Relatively fast peak and about 8 surfers on longboards taking advantage.

Patch: Still trying to work, but still needs some more tide to fill in. Occasional wave in the knee to thigh high range and very foggy. You could hide out over here on your log and have a session to yourself.

Daily Surf Report - 9/28/2011

Warm, Sunny, Light winds. Waves?
Once again, the swell is hiding (relatively speaking) and being mellowed out by Bolinas's unique and sensitive geography, possibly it's the towns....mellow vibe. Yes we do have times of mania, and maybe it has even barreled recently. However at the moment, it is waist high at best, and surprisingly soft. It seems to be fizzleing. The tide could surely switch it up today. That said, if it does happen to tube later today... please respect the tube, and for sure: respect the person that is already in the tube, even if they get lots of tubes.

Channel: Occasional waist+ sets combing through rather soft off the outside to middle groin.

Patch: trying to work, but really to low of water at the moment, later, please take your longboard over here.

Put the new Krypt MT5 surf mats through the initial paces and they passed with flying colors. When you are on a mat it is always overhead. It is truly like a dream. Come check them out!

Daily Surf Report - 9/27/2011

Tuesday: Sept 27th

The first new moon of Fall is today. That doesn't mean much to some, to others it is a reason to pause. Today is great day for quiet contemplations and beachcombing with the tidal swings. And if you waited long enough, and watched the tides, the surf could even come up for a moment, but currently it is quite small and just barely ridable in the knee high range, beginers will be just fine though.

Channel: Very mellow, occasional knee high sets through the middle of the channel, I saw one person get a little ride on a longboard.

Patch: nothing at at moment. Maybe in the afternoon with the outgoing tide.

Put the new Krypt MT5 surf mats through the initial paces and they passed with flying colors. When you are on a mat it is always overhead. It is truly like a dream. Come check them out!

Changes, Channels, Dark, and Light.
How about just Light? While we have it you know***
And Warmth? Calm
~A state of being at the beach today.
Bright and sunny this morning, with glassy water and waste high waves peeling nice and slow for the longboard surfers.

Channel: Looks like a jam, thigh to waist, a few folks outthere.

Patch: lines are winking on the outside, but merely squinting off the reef, around ankle to baby ankle.

I recomend all amping surfers take it easy and come in shifts today...

Daily Surf Report - 9/24/2011

Groggy and foggy, nah, overcast skies and somewhat still weather. A light westerly breeze is coursing through town, but the ocean surface is glassy and inviting. The swell has dropped considerably compared to the last few days, but there are still some pulses of waves hanging around in the grey atmosphere. Once the marine layer burns off it should prove to be a beautiful beach day. Air temp is around 58 degrees and plenty of people are getting suited up and heading out into the water.

Channel: Regular waves coming through in the knee to waist high range with slightly bigger sets here and there, although the high tide will be slowing things down. There is a pretty fun and ripable sand bar set up out there at seadrift, the channel and groin, so take your pick, and be conscious of other surfers around you. About 16-18 people out and definitely more headed that way.

Patch: Pretty high tide rising, and about 5 barnacles out at the cabbage patch picking kelp carrots and getting some knee high cruises through the inside. Looks like it could be a fun time on the right log or a surf mat.

Put the new Krypt MT5 surf mats through the initial paces and they passed with flying colors. When you are on a mat it is always overhead. It is truly like a dream. Come check them out!

Daily Surf Report - 9/23/2011

Sun is out as of 10:15am
Town fog / Glassy Ocean / Swell in the Water / Sun at the Farm Stand.

Buoys still showing NW swell with 9' @ 11 sec intervals. Very foggy in town but sun is 2 mins away shining brightly at the farm stand before town. Should be a great surf and beach day. No wind and temp is 56F

Channel: Regular waves coming through in the chest high size with slightly bigger sets. Bars are firm and there are lefts in the Channel and rights at Seadrift. Lots of surfers in the water and more suiting up. Should be working all day as tide swings are not too drastic.

Patch: From what I can see there is shorebreak energy but it is a mystery in the fog as to what the current surf is like outside. Surfers are coming and going in that direction and there were lines moving through yesterday so a pretty safe bet there is something to ride.

Put the new Krypt MT5 surf mats through the initial paces and they passed with flying colors. When you are on a mat it is always overhead. It is truly like a dream. Come check them out!

Daily Surf Report - 9/22/2011

1:30pm Update:
Sun / 71F / Surf continues

Overcast and misty skies with light sideshore winds. Temp is 57F and patches of sun are peaking through at the higher elevations.

First real N swell on the buoys and showing in the water. 10' @ 15secs. Energy in the water at both spots today.

Channel: Chest high + with lefts on the deeper Channel bar and rights on the Seadrift side which may be the better wave today. Lots of longboards in the water but shorter boards will work on the inner sections which have more power with the current tide.

Patch: Scattered lines working in the thigh to almost waist high size. Mostly rights with some lefts mixed in. Still a log spot as the waves are relatively soft but very rideable.

Daily Surf Report - 9/21/2011

Afternoon Update~

And yes, the sky is clear now, and the little waves we have are indeed shiney and bright. There is a swell that is due this evening, a westerly swell, and it seems the period is jumping up at the moment, but the wave height at both the patch and the channel is still around knee to thigh.
Later today could be fun. Btw, did I mention? It's hot outside :D

And Now We are Totally Fogged Out.

I don't even know what's out there.
I could hardly see it the fogg is so thick.
All things considered, we are dealing with waist high waves, with barely enough energy to just line up, just right.
Catch it on the perfect tidal position and you could be stoked, I was yesterday (for a 45 minute window). Know your spot and your tide, write it down, remember, and show up then, Again.

Channel: Thigh high fog banks, long, kinda fast in the inside of the channel, breaking into the inside groin.

Patch: long lines trying to break...but not doing it perfect yet. Wait for the outgoing tide later.

Daily Surf Report - 9/20/2011

Indianish Summer~
The light is so bright this morning.
Warm and calm. 65 degrees, slack wind, will pick up later.
Little lines breaking in, around knee to thigh at the channel on the inside, and potential later for the patch.

Channel: Little shapley lines rolling in through the middle channel bar arouind thigh high.

Patch: long lines trying to break, but kind of "crumbledumping" in one spot instead of lining up, more tide later today will help.

Put the new Krypt MT5 surf mats through the initial paces and they passed with flying colors. When you are on a mat it is always overhead. It is truly like a dream. Come check them out!

Daily Surf Report - 9/19/2011

Hot Glass,

One of the warmest, calmest mornings I can remember.
Very September. Not much surf, but really nice conditions. About 65 degrees and clear this morning. Waves at the channel about thigh high every once and a while.

Channel: The surf is small and glassy, with the low tide causing it to roll in pretty quickly out in the channel. Currently working on and off well in the thigh high range.

Patch: Currently flat, should come alive a bit with more water.

Good morning.

It's a beautiful, sunny, glassy, morning here.

Very calm, with a beautiful paddle out tribute for a dear friend who will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Wishing peace to all those who are missing him...RIP Pete Weiss. We all miss you.

Channel: The surf is small and glassy, with the low tide causing it to roll in pretty quickly out in the channel. Currently working pretty well in the thigh high range. Should improve after tide bottoms out and water starts filling back in.

Daily Surf Report - 9/14/2011

Waves, waves and vibes

This Wednesday morning, the surf is good and the vibe is tight out there.
Be friendly and respectfull of all people in the water, when the waves are fun like this, in the middle of the week, the town's people truely have it to themselves. Come out and share a few with the community, think of each wave you make as a gift from the village! And let everyone have their "fun rides"~ especially the one's that might need/deserve to it more than you.
Today's ideal session would be shredding a shorty at the Groin, followed by noserides at the patch. Time your tides, and take'r easy ya'll....

Channel: Not big, but small and hollow, longboards drop in, and then most people couldn't outrun the section. Would be kinda sick on a fish, but the sets here are infrequent compared to the patch. Breaking off the middle groin bar, further outside on the sets.

Patch: Logtown, freeways are trying to clear up with the tide filling in. Currently a little too drained, but should line up more better with more water.

In-store Shaper Event:
David Vernor, the man behind Vernor surfboards, will be in the shop this Saturday, 9/17/2011, from 11am to 1pm. This is a great opportunity to talk boards and design with a local shaper. Daily Surf Report - 9/13/2011

Oh Bo,

Currently, things on the califonia coast are just fine.
Probably everywhere on the coast that faces a little south could be an Ok place to be today. That being said, Bolinas is one of those spots. I saw a fair amount of waves out there this morning. Not amping or anything, but surf looks fun. About waist high, scattered lines at both spots. No wind yet, about 62 degrees. Overcast.

Channel: Not big, but small and hollow, longboards drop in, and then most people couldn't outrun the section. Would be kinda sick on a fish, but the sets here are infrequent compared to the patch. Breaking off the middle groin bar, further outside on the sets.

Patch: Longboard city. Waist high and lined up, soft, and long. Patch seems to be breaking more frequently, about waist high.

Daily Surf Report - 9/12/2011

12:30 PM update:
Wind is up, but sideshore, waves should still be fun...

Glassy and Full Moon,
I mean...really, NO wind, at all. 62 degrees and light haze in the sky, good visibility still too. I almost forgot what "no wind" looks like. Oh, and also: waves~ little clean ones, lined up, about waist high, and not stopping till the beach, maybe even a couple hollow sections, for real. I hope your not reading this at work, sorry if that is your situation.

Channel: I saw a clean one break through for a long way without any sections, super glassy, middle sandbar left at groin. Around 4-6 people out.

Patch: Small surf breaking on the inside in the knee to thigh high range, looking clean, and loggable.

Daily Surf Report - 9/11/2011

Good Morning,

First of all, as we all know, today is the tenth anniversary of the biggest tragedy our country has known. Let's all take a moment to remember the lives lost and the family's left behind that have to grapple with the loss of loved-ones daily. Also, let us all take a moment to reflect on how blessed we are to be alive and smile on your brother today.
And help, if you are able, to let them know that they are not alone.

Today in Bolinas is the typical summer weather, foggy and drizzly.
There is no wind at this point and there continue to be waves rolling in at both spots, with the channel serving up the best this morning.

Channel: Still showing lefts off the 2 sandbars. Deeper Channel bar is waist high +. A bit dumpy but some smooth, flat sections to work. Inside Groin left is smaller but working as well. Longboard for best results but shortboard will work too. About 10 folks out.

Patch: Small surf breaking on the inside in the knee to thigh high range. Def bring the longboard. One person out.

Daily Surf Report - 9/10/2011

Straight out of Stockton, CA - PAVEMENT. Alt punk band is on the ipod all day today.

Another misty, foggy blanket hangs over town this morning. Winds are light and south and the temp is 56F. Sun should burn it off by early afternoon and our nice days will continue. Better than it looks out there today and any day you surf is better than not. Combo NW windswell + small south swell in the water. Like the package of chicken you buy at the store - pieces and parts. If you get into the wave and if you make the section and if you float the little ledge (all fun things to do on a board) it does hold up and some good rides can be had.

Channel: Still showing lefts off the 2 sandbars. Deeper Channel bar is waist high +. A bit dumpy but some smooth, flat sections to work. Inside Groin left is smaller but working as well. Shorter boards will work as there is still some energy just not as smooth or clean as yesterday.

Patch: Crumbling waves in the thigh high + size. Plenty of water so rocks are covered and you can right it almost to the beach before kicking out. About 5 surfers in the water right now.

Check out the trailer for our friend Doug Walker's new surf movie "Lost and Found" It will be premiering at the NYC Surf Film Fest in September and is a great piece of surfing history that should not be missed.

Daily Surf Report - 9/9/2011

2:00pm Update:
The sun has come out and temp is up to 69F. Waves are small but plentiful.

A foggy blanket hangs over town this morning. Winds are light and temp is currently 56F. Sun should burn it off by early afternoon and our nice days will continue. Still a bit of surf to ride in town with waves in the thigh to waist + size.

Channel: Still showing a nice little left off the 2 sandbars. Smooth and fast to the inside. About waist high and everyone is on longboards at the moment. Decent tide for the day.

Patch: The right on the inside is getting lots of action right now. Plenty of water so rocks are covered and you can right it almost to the beach before kicking out. Longboards, SUPs and a few smaller boards are in the water. Boogie board and handplane will work unreal as well. Thigh to waist high in size.

Daily Surf Report - 9/8/2011

11:00am Update:
The sun is now out and temp is up to 65F. What more do you want in a day?

Cool mornings and Indian Summer afternoons. A nice bit of weather going on and starting to taste a bit like Fall in the air. Today we have light offshore winds and a current temp of 53F. Thigh to waist high waves at both spots, and the crowds are light Light overcast which should give way to sun later today.

Channel: This is the spot today with regular waist high lefts off the sandbars and about 8 people on it. Fast wave that will take you to the inside. Longboards are the call but something shorter will work if you are a good paddler.

Patch: Inside rights on the north end of the Patch. Thigh high + and smooth. Very rideable but not many takers here yet as the Channel is better. Looks like fun rides to be had and the incoming tide covers the rocks.

Daily Surf Report - 9/7/2011

Bolinas is Chilling so Hard right now.

~ No wind, waist high waves at both spots, and the crowds are nonexistant (all except the rental beach house full of a dozen Euro-Burningman recoverees I met yesterday)So today at the beach, could and should bee a great time to just come and log in the fog again. I do indeed believe the fog I am seeing will clear off quite soon too, it did yesterday. That south swell activity is still hanging around it's true.

Channel: About 6 people out, long sweeping lines breaking left off of the middle groin bar, kinda a big section, but if you made it you would be flying, that's for sure.

Patch:
Tide coming up, and the waves are kinda nice here, about waist high and long "longboardable" waves about waist high. I could see about 3-4 people out and someone had a good ride too.

Tune up your log with our fin rental program. Find the perfect fin to make your board perform. For $10 / day or $20 / week, you can rent one of our fins and find the perfect ride. We have a great selection of varying sizes and flex for all boards.

Daily Surf Report - 9/6/2011

Labor Day is Over~

Put your white pants and Ray bans away for the summer- All the kids are back in school, the minivans are back in their respected driveways and garages, and all the weirdos are heading back from Burningman in a scramble to their cubicles... What I am trying to tell you is that: Surf season is starting today! The swell is still here (and quite shredable), and Bolinas is working, here, for you, if you want it ; )
Thin fog is hanging just over the beach, I don't see it lasting much longer than an hour or two, about 61 degrees out, and hardly any wind.

Channel: About 12 people out, all people are spread out as the waves are spreading out too. Lining up with long faces, about waste high. Lefts off of the middle groin.

Patch:
Still working. Outside sets crumbling in through the middle... then reforming off the inside reef for nice little pocket rides... about waist high here as well.

Tune up your log with our fin rental program. Find the perfect fin to make your board perform. For $10 / day or $20 / week, you can rent one of our fins and find the perfect ride. We have a great selection of varying sizes and flex for all boards.

Sun is out and blazing. Great beach and surf day here in Bolinas.

Channel: Lefts off the Channel and Groin are working, breaking in the thigh high range. Currently working pretty well, clean and smooth.
Several people out already.

Patch: Still some swell out there. Waves are breaking on the outside in the waist high range, not really connecting to the inside. There are waves to be had, just bring your longest board to catch them.

2:30 pn Update:
Sun is breaking thru a bit and temp is 67F. Winds are very light. Lots of swell in the water and still cleaning up a bit. Lots of surfers out.

Foggy morning with light winds. Current temp is 56F. Sun is out there but wont make an appearance until early afternoon. Ocean starting to clean up and swell is showing at all beach spots in town. Pieces and parts along the beach but rideable. About 12 in the water and more putting on suits with a group on the beach pointing and gesturing. Not super clean yet. High pressure expected to kick in today and warm temps + offshore winds on tap.

Channel: Lefts off the channel bar at around waist to almost chest high. Rideable on a longboard but a bit mushy for anything short. Changing tides and weather should improve.

Patch: About waist high + with scattered peaks. Rights and lefts and longboards or SUPs will work. Incoming tide and less wind will help.
