Daily Surf Report - 9/30/2013

12:45 UPDATE - Fog lifted slightly making slightly more sight available. Still calm misty and beautiful.
Closing early today ladies and fellas, --> CALL in advance

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"A hippie is someone who looks like Tarzan, walks like Jane and smells like Cheetah." - Ronald Regan

Its a mystery out there today. Get lost in a sea of probability and possibility and loose yourself in the fog. Its possible and probable that today is a day for surf. Thousands if not millions of rippers and shredders are jogging, walking, talking, and stalking their way to the waters edge only to scratch their chins and stair into the deep white oblivion. Its 58*f in the air today while the water is colder than that. Surf may potentially be very good today, although it certainly is uncertain. Enter the mist, paddle out and if you can see a foot in front of your face.. you are bound to see something special.

CHANNEL:  The channel has become a mecca for the lost souls and radical bros who have decided to drop out of society and spend there time doing something truly amazing. There is report on surfing the waves of life but that is for another day. The wave report is unknown as the mist has closed my eyes but if you really want to open your vision orbs and mind to see the future.. you don't get it. Its not about the future, so go have a good old fashion surf and you will be on the right track. No thinking, only doing.
*Observations may be based on puffery.

PATCH: The volcano is exploding, the ship is sinking, the eyes are watching and the chaos is spreading! Ridiculous folk lore and the tallest of tails are being shared and the ghosts have worked their way into the cracks. Dogs are running with cats and the cows are eating all the people. The fog is as thick as Grandpa's eyebrows and the surf is good. Size, length of ride, wind, all are a mystery. Surf is wet, so soak up the moisture.

Daily Surf Report - 9/29/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“How long should you try?  Until. ”   ―  Jim Rohn

Blue jays in my grill with skunks and opossums becoming friends.  The crystal connection has been made and all is right in this beautiful world.  Make like Black Francis and ride the wave of mutilation all the way to shore today.  It is misty overcast with the sun hiding its fiery location.  Hide and seek time but it will come out to play later.  Currently 56F and not a breath of wind.  Close your eyes and listen to NOTHING.   A few early risers scoring the glassy bumps as the tide fills in this morning.  Grab a water craft and ride it.

CHANNEL:  Channel is the Mack Daddy right now delivering pitching wedges, beat downs, hold downs and open faces.  Going chest to neck high as swell fills in and water levels stay mid.  Strong sauce goodness this afternoon.  Bring your good Bolinas board and be one with the waves.  Here are set sandbars and a little bit of N swell.  When the direction is right the waves are thigh high + and smooth as glass.  Nice for your longboarding pleasure today and safe for beginners as well.  Walk the sand with the crustaceans today and mind the seawall during the high tide.

PATCH: Sets reel and peel towards the beach with glassy goodness.  Rocky and Bullwinkle style as tide heads low.  Slicing and dicing for your board or feet if you don't mind the inside rocks.  Size running up the flagpole a bit towards waist high.  Find your way to Oceana and visualize the Patch breaking.  It currently is small here but a little Osprey told me in my dream that a new dose of swell may turn on here today.  Shipstern knee crunchers are available but the tide levels are good all day so envision improvement - at least in your mind.

Daily Surf Report - 9/28/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't worry about the future. It's going to happen whether you want it to or not. ”   ―  Mike Dillon

You can become a peeler and ride a mini reeler today but for heavens sake don't be a pumpkin stealer. Its carving time a little early as big round fruit as warm and bright as the sun. Expect slightly less carve-ability in the big blue today as the poppers and pieces are mini, micro and a bit on then small side. It's all perspective and it's good today. Pull into a lay down tube and watch your dreams and aspirations crumble as appreciation over takes expectations. It is a balmy and calmy 50*f and only a few folks singers out.

CHANNEL: Find yourself here. Whether its a good place or a bad one at least it's not the year 1984 and at least you are somewhere. Ankle to thigh is your pleasure today and it is the motion of the ocean that matters. Grab a big log or whatever weird craft you want and do something with no goal in mind. Crazy is good so get weird.

PATCH: What are your thoughts Sam? I don't know reader, what am I thinking? There creatures in the attic and animals in the basement. There are people in the world and not many in my head. There are fish in the sea and sharks in the sky. Remember that the good is only the bad and the named is only the nameless. There are waves in the world and none at the patch. Run in circles and love every minute of it because we have all lost our minds and I'm loving it.
Knee high waves.

Daily Surf Report - 9/27/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't paddle straight out, don't drop in and don't snake for sure.  Don't laugh or smile don't make no eye contact.  Never, ever get caught inside.  Don't chop hop. Don't call outside sets.  Don't spot check and don't dawn patrol.  Don't sunrise or sunset.  Don't lurk in parking lots.  No camping out.  No secret spots.  Don't talk shapes.  Ain't staring at the seas ain't staring at the sand.-  I'm no dude, no bro.  Not stoked, not amped, not psyched and not sun burnt.  Never surfed out.  I don't surf no more." -  Joe Conway

Welcome to Friday at the beach.  It is a glorious morning with blue skies and sunshine, a temp of 53F and not wind.  Still a glassy and beautiful ocean surface although wave size has dropped since yesterday.  Leftover NW windswell is all that remains.  Bars are set, tide is good, just need a bit more energy from Mother Ocean.  Great day for beginners and there are still a few rides to be had.

CHANNEL: Small waves pushing thigh high.  Requires some seeking, patience and extra paddling to find the magic wave.  Grab your crystal directional finder for extra help. Bring the longboard today and on your paddle out you will achieve total surfing enlightenment.  We expect E winds and a little swell bump but may not see significant improvement until the weekend.

PATCH: You like flat Brah?  Us either but that is what we are seeing early this morning.  Potential peaks roll through but not much breaking wave action so far.  Great for kayaks, touring SUPs and swimmers but not so much for the surfing contingent.  Post up here later with an open third eye and maybe find a few gems in the afternoon.

Daily Surf Report - 9/26/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” - Carlos Casteneda

Good morning and welcome to our beautiful Fall morning at the beach.  Temp is a brisk 52F but the sun is out and the winds are starting very lightly.  It is as fresh as a Fall day can get so put your happy pants on.  Smooth ocean today with a few bumps still out there from the last NW swell.  Grab to trusty longboard and get wet today.

CHANNEL: Channel has waves in two spots.  Inside bar small and beginner style with surf in the thigh high size.  A mixture of rights, lefts and whitewater but something to pop up on.  Outside bar has a group of about 10 sitting on it waiting for the good stuff.  Takes a while but waist high lefts will appear and are smooth and fun.  Has a bit of push to it as well. Be prepared for the paddle battle to get it first and call everyone else off!

PATCH: A few nice little rollers here although the lineup is empty.  Serenity Now is the call as you can have it to yourself for rides and glides.  Plenty of good tide here all day long so log it baby, log it.

Daily Surf Report - 9/25/2013

ATTENTION! We will be closing early today, however we will re-open tomorrow morning at our usual time of 9AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The waves always make it special but just being in the water is the real connection. The waves are the bonus. ” - the old guy at the shop

Good morning everyone and welcome to another beautiful morning here at the beach. Fall is now official and the air temp is proving thus as it's crisply coming in at 53 degrees. The air is clean, the sun is out and not a cloud or care in the sky. There is a bit of a side shore wind texturing the water but nothing to get in a tizzy over just yet. The swell has dropped a bit since yesterday as well but there is a little (operative word "little") something out there to glide upon.

NOTE: There is a lot of heavy construction going on here today so please be patient and mindful of this when coming into town.

CHANNEL: Le Channel is breaking, albeit a touch sloppily over the outside middle bar. It looks to be waist (+/-) and with a little umph behind it as well. Bring a big board or swim fins and a surf mat/paipo/hand plane and look for the green wall realities! Four (4) creatures out there now and more suiting up to go and blow, baby blow!

PATCH: Not too much happening here today especially compared to yesterday. Knee to smaller gurglers rolling across the inside rocks. A big board and a smile and waiting out the tide could do the trick... also, we do ding repair. No one here as I write this

Daily Surf Report - 9/23/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Happiness is not a goal, but a by-product.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

Some small lumps and bumps of the good stuff doing something today. Its a cool crisp and semi collected day today. Air temp is a radical 57*f and sharp to the touch. The big yellow crystal in the sky is as symmetrical as ever and shinning down all those luscious beams of warmth. Only one sweeper out in the line up enjoying the only morning we have today.

CHANNEL: HAZARD WARNING: Uncontrollable smiling can and will be induced as one enters this oceans edge. I'm calling knee to thigh with a sparkle on the water which will tantalize even the hardest of poker-faces. Crowd level is null to one, while little peelers are plentiful and possibly rideable. Happiness is possible and every probable on this day of probability.

PATCH: Did you know that water is not actually moving forward with a rolling wave? It is actually the medium for waves of energy to pass through. As waves travel thousands of miles to crash on beaches and shorelines they are groomed to perfection through the open ocean. We as surfers are not being pushed forward by water but rather pulses of energy form power crystals in the sun sending us good vibes.
At the patch there are none of these and a lot of rocks.
(Bring your crystals from home.)

Daily Surf Report - 9/22/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.” - Thomas Edison

Gazing into our crystal ball we see the first signs of Fall.  Autumn in poetry has often been associated with melancholy. The possibilities of summer are gone, and the chill of winter is on the horizon. Skies turn grey, and many people turn inward, both physically and mentally.  We start to see the start of Winter surf season as well with swells coming down from the NW delivering some juice.

We have perfectly clear skies this morning with a temp of 53F.  Sunshine prevails and there is NO wind.  Storm surf has cleaned up a bit but dropped in size.  Clean and small and rideable as well.  Bring your log and get a few.

CHANNEL:  Set and hard sandbars in the Channel.  Waves in the thigh high + size when they hit just right.  A bit on the low tide side as it just bottomed out and is starting to fill back in.  Another hour of water will help things out.  About 10 in the water on the outside bar riding lefts and the occasional right towards Seadrift.  Beautiful beach day and perfect surf conditions for beginners.

PATCH:  Outside rollers mostly for the janitor set.  Soft and hard to get into without a paddle.  Inside Snags section had rideable peaks that roll to the beach in the sandy section.  Wave size up to waist high but needs a bit more water to cover up the exposed rocks and getting working a little more consistent.  Still fun stuff on a longboard.

Daily Surf Report - 9/21/2013

2:00pm Update - Sunshine and warmth!  Still stormy surf but worth taking a dip.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Change your thoughts and you change your world." - Norman Vincent Peale

Grizzled and drizzled morning as we do have rain and heavy at times.  Periodic downpours mixed with light mist.  A cleansing rinse from above.  We also have S winds and a new dose of storm swell.  A conflicting collaboration of natural events.  Nonetheless surfers are on it and the parking lot is filling up quickly. Current temp is 59F and wind is blowing in your face. Put on your red shoes, hold tight to your board and make a wish for a great day.

CHANNEL:  Misty viewing but storm surf waves can be discerned.  Surfers on the beach doing pre-session yoga and limbering up for a good paddle.  Plenty of wind funneling up the boat ramp makes for an interesting walk.  Keep things close and avoid the ding repair.  Get a few waves and rejoice in the ocean's bounty.  Essentially sloppy surf but maybe a fun corner to pick off here and there.

PATCH:  Usual contingent of surfers heading this direction.  A few wall hangers getting soaked looking into the fog.  Once you are wet you are wet so throw a suit on get busy.  Size varies but saw a few thigh to waist high inside waves breaking.  Tide is low so watch for rocks and debris.

Daily Surf Report - 9/20/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Strive to be first: first to nod, first to smile, first to compliment, and first to forgive.” - Anonymous

Clear and bright morning with full sunshine, no wind and temp starting out at 55F.  Crystals are recharged and everything feels fresh and tingly today.  Another nice beach day although we are between swells and there is not much surf today.  A great day for beginners and SUPs as well.  Saddle up and look on the bright side.

CHANNEL:  Outside bar waves that run up to knee /thigh high but are not consistent.  Good shape when they do break but mostly pieces and parts of waves on the inner bars.  Needs more water and tide is filling in so a bit of help there.  3 in the water - 2 learning to surf and 1 SUP.  Possible potential on the Seadrift side of things but not much more than thigh high waves.

PATCH:  Very small with the occasional knee high roller on the inside.  An empty lineup if you are looking for peace and solitude.  Great conditions for paddling or swimming.  Hoping for improvement and will update if things get better.

Daily Surf Report - 9/19/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Wisdom is knowing what to do next; virtue is doing it.” - David Star Jordan

Full moon evening so get those crystals outside and all charged up.  Sunshine this morning with beautiful weather.  No wind and temp is 54F.  Should be nice and warm throughout the day.  An absence of much swell today but still a roller or two worth watching and suiting up for.  Not great size but a nice day for the beach.

CHANNEL:  Outside bar waves that run up to knee high but have nice shape due to a good sandbar.  Longboards will work here and left is the direction of travel.  2 in the water doing the aqua glide.  Great for beginners as well.  Incoming tide may give a little help here.

PATCH:  Very small and near flat.  Just an occasional knee high inside wave breaking but an empty lineup if you are looking for peace and solitude.  Take your power crystal out and generate some excitement today.

Daily Surf Report - 9/18/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” - George Eliot

Good morning to all of you sliders of the brine! It's a beautiful, clear morning out with the feel of Autumn already in the air as the temperature is coming in at a crisp 52 degrees. The surf is far less appealing as there is plenty of texture on the water's surface and not really much of a swell to speak of. Ankle-to-just-under-knee crumble bums in shallow water. Maybe later we'll get something.
Today also marks 43 years since the demise of the man who changed the way people approached the guitar as well as music in general. James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix continues to be an inspiration to generations of musicians the world over.

CHANNEL: Ankle-to-knee foam balls that could make the Dalai Lama cry. The tide is indeed coming back in but without much of a swell push there really isn't anything to get excited about. One (1) person (the Pelican) out there with his janitorial equipment searching for true enlightenment.

PATCH: Just like the Bonneville Salt flats.... only with water.
