Daily Surf Report - 5/7/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It's kind of fun to do the impossible." - Walt Disney

Good morning humans and welcome to the middle of another week in your life. It's another glorious morning here at the beach with the sun sporting the Ray-Bans but, with that 52 degree temperature the sun is also sporting the Patagonia nano-puff jacket to keep the chill off. A bit of a breeze out there putting so much texture on the water to the point that even Helen Keller could paddle out and tell you there isn't really any surf. The near empty parking lot speaks volumes. Maybe later with some slight variable changes.

CHANNEL:  No. That's the word for here today...no. Below knee white water clunkers lacking any shape at all that they make Rosie O'Donnell look like an SI swimsuit model. Again, maybe later in the day when the tide shifts....maybe. No one here....duh.

PATCH: This week on Border Wars! Bert & Ernie are back on their maritime paddle planks as they have more on their minds than just "mopping up the Patch!" You can tell that they mean business just by the war cries and threatening gestures they make with their 'war paddles' as they battle over below-knee-high slow-pokes on the Clam Patch/Green-Africa border. Who will win this epic battle to the death of unimaginable dorkiness and be crowned Janitor Of The the Patch? Stay tuned....

Daily Surf Report - 5/6/2014

WE WILL BE CLOSING EARLY TODAY BUT WILL RE-OPEN TOMORROW AT 9AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age." - Lucille Ball

Well, good morning to all of you wave chasers and ocean enthusiasts. It's another bee-u-tee-ful morning here at the beach. As promised, the sun is up once again grinning that warm, gold toothed display while the birds are all singing harmonies ala the Mills Brothers. The temperature has dipped a little this morning at a cool-ish 52 degrees but will warm up a touch a little later on. Not really any swell to speak of this day but, it's absolutely gorgeous out there for a hike, bike, swim and even (choke) a janitorial run on a S.S. Mop & Glow.

CHANNEL:  Knee high crumblers that if I were you, and clearly I'm not, but if I were I would take out the swim fins and either; a) body surf that little left between the Groin Pole and Boat Ramp, with or without a hand plane, or b) still using the swim fins whip out the surf mat/boogie board/paipo and ride the said left. Looks fun and I'd do it but I have to be here to antagonize folks as they pass through the hollowed portal of the oh-so-sacred 2-Mile Shop, so...
It's your call, bub.

PATCH: Hardly anything coming across here today and what does is a super slow, super tiny ankle slapper right across the rocks. Meh...it happens. Maybe later? If it does you'll be the first I let know.

Daily Surf Report - 5/5/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I am not afraid of death. I just don't want to be there when it happens." - Woody Allen

The scene: Overcast morning on the Northern California coast with a slight breeze and the temperature is a 55 degrees. Two raccoons, we'll call them Kevin and Raymond are standing high above the the coast line while smoking menthol's and watching the water below after a pre-dawn garbage can raid...

Kevin: It's really something out here, ain't it?

Raymond: And How! This is the life, I tell ya.

Kevin: (chuckling) Look at those stupid humans down there, Raymond. You'd never catch me out there in that water wearing some ridiculous outfit and riding those silly planks all over the place.

Raymond: (pausing to reflect on the scenario his friend has just presented) Absolutely not! It's so....so...I dunno. Undignified, if you ask me.

Kevin: Exactimundo, my friend.

Raymond: And they act like they "own" everything and they can't even figure out that bungee cords are no problem to remove from garbage cans.

Kevin: (chuckling) And they call themselves superior!

Raymond: (laughing hard) Thumbs are overrated on some species if you ask me!

Taking the last puff from his smoke, Kevin tamps it out on the guard rail and palms the butt to throw out later.

Kevin: Let's get out of here.

Raymond: Yeah.... I need another coffee... y' think that the People's Store is open yet?

Kevin: Do I look like I have a watch? I'm a raccoon, for Christs sake!

end scene.

CHANNEL:  Thigh (+/-) white water janksters are slop, slop, slopping along. The tide is still retreating faster than the French army but that isn't stopping the Kookamungus brothers, Stink Bug and Barney from riding straight-off, Adolph for 20 to 30 yards and then falling off of the back end. Maybe later... I'll let you know.

PATCH:  Not really working too well at the moment. Thigh and below as there really isn't a heck of a lot of energy at this time. Right on the border of the Clam Patch and Green/Africa there is Bert & Ernie the dynamic custodial duo along with Half Full riding some of the slowest waves I've ever seen. Maybe later here too?

Daily Surf Report - 5/4/2014

We will be closing a little early tonight but will re-open tomorrow morning 9AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening. Sleep at night." - William Blake

Happy Sunday to all of you bipeds who live for kicks, chicks and thrills... or, those of you that just love to glide. It's another glorious morning here at the beach. The temperature is buzzing in at a sumptuous 55 degrees as the sun is peaking out and yawning and all of the birds are singing in the key of Sister Rosetta Tharp! Now the main course, there is also a bit of a swell popping into town for a friendly, little visit. Why not put on your Sunday best neoprene and say hello to this day? Go ahead... the first one is always free.

CHANNEL:  Jumpin' barnacles! There are waist (+/-) high, smile inducing emerald wedges that are sailing through the Channel this 'morn. Right-smack-dab down the middle bar and it's peeling off in either preference the predominate amount of time! When the tide turns and begins to come back up I betcha' this'll be the place! Several out there now spread all over the dang place!

PATCH:  The Clam Patch is not one to be left out of the hydrodynamic shenanigans lately as it's producing a waist (+/-) undulation in which one may smile at as they glide upon it's watery goodness. This is going on way out past the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock as well as in the Snags and over at Ladies Lefts. Many log enthusiasts as well as the pseudo-surfing janitor boards.

Daily Surf Report - 5/3/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties.” - Harry S. Truman

Sunny yes with a few streaky clouds on the horizon.  Start your day nice and see where it takes you.  There is potential for greatness if you are open to variations.  Temp is 55F and should stay moderate to almost warm today.  Minor puffs of wind that neither hurt nor help so far.  Venture down the gopher hole but mind the "friendly" squirrel and all foxes.  Take the path untrodden and see where it leads.  S swell fades today and morning water levels are very low.  Incoming tide push and possible NW windswell gives a bit more juice later in the day.  For now it is a beautiful morning to be at the beach and ride a wave or two.

CHANNEL:  Morning low tide and still dropping but that is not stopping the intrepid dozen that are on it early and spread out from the Groin across to Seadrift and all parts in-between.  Exposing sandbars make for shallow conditions but there are a few inner spinners in the knee high size that may just allow you to strut your stuff on a big board.  Waves appear like mirages on the horizon and the lucky ones get the dreamy rides.  Afternoon should be better with more tide and a NW swell starting to fill in.

PATCH:  Way outside find that meeting rock.  Use it as your marker and take off zone as this is the only place with enough water and does have a rideable log wave.  Jacking up to thigh high here and rolling through both right and left.  Not a whole lot of energy left but with no water you can't be too picky this morning.  1 surfer on it now and he has reserved the Patch until 9am when the tide finally hits low and things shut down.  Free swim and surf hours will be from 10am - 10pm today.

Daily Surf Report - 5/2/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” - Helen Keller

Supernaturally quiet, foggy and overcast morning in Bolinas.  Dead calm and ocean glass.  Temp in around 55F.  Slip in under to cloud cover and find your place in the sea.  Clean conditions with easing NW windswell but S swell is holding and the angle has gotten a bit steeper.  Small but spewing waves to ride.  Sun will be out soon and tide dropping so all vampires take advantage now.  Bare your fangs and coffin ride your log.

CHANNEL:  Just hitting negative low tide and all the sand bars are exposed.  Seadrift lefts looks to be showing and size is a guesstimate at knee high +.  A few in the water on shorter boards here giving it a whirl.  Looks fast and short but has some push and I expect more water will help to improve the conditions.

PATCH:  Again we have Low tide, No tide and ALL rocks exposed.  Yet, the S swell is giving up waves out past the meeting rock for all those that dare to venture or paddle the distance.  It is usually worth the effort.  Waves are fog-covered and concealed but the premonition is thigh high with a bit of push to get big boards rolling and riding.  Maybe 8 or more here.  Mind the rocks on your feet and fins and get some waves.

Daily Surf Report - 5/1/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“If you want your dreams to come true, you must wake them up.” - Anonymous

Magically delicious morning here in Bolinas with temp already 59F, no wind to speak of, full sunshine and the promise of warm to hot temps.  Beautiful beach day with almost every grain of sand and all rocks exposed with the negative low tide.  Still have a bit of lingering S in the water like that last party guest that refuses to leave.  In this case he is coughing up a few rideable waves with his last energy gasps.  Grab a big board and go ride a few today.

CHANNEL: The sand bars are fully exposed so you might want to avert your eyes.  Otherwise take a closer look and see how waves are made when the water rolls over the bottom undulations.  Dr. Surf Science knows a few things and classes in the Channel are learning patience today as there is not much there due to no water.  It is not stopping the 3 hearty souls out now grabbing the Mafia-style kneecap crunching lefts that break close to shore with short rides.  Mystical micro-sliders for sure.

PATCH: Low tide, No tide and ALL rocks exposed.  Even so way out past the bulkhead meeting rock the S delivers waves that can and are being ridden today.  More water will help but right now thigh high rights and lefts are available for riding.  2 in the water now and more should be on the way.
