Daily Surf Report - 1/31/2013
Wikipedia defines surfing as:
a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a "surfer," rides on the forward face of a wave, which is most often carrying the surfer towards shore. Waves suitable for surfing are found primarily in the ocean, but can be found in some lakes, in rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore. Surfing can also be done in manmade sources such as wave pools and boat wakes. The term "surfing" refers to the act of riding a wave and not the form (with or without a board) in which the wave is ridden. For instance, the native peoples of the Pacific surfed waves on alaia, paipo, and other such crafts on their belly, knees, and feet. Not to mention, bodysurfing, the act of surfing a wave without a board, is considered by some to be the purest form of surfing. That much said, the more modern day definition of surfing tends to refer to when a surfer rides a wave standing up on a surfboard, which is referred to as surfing.
Surfers represent a diverse culture based on riding the waves. Some people practice surfing as a recreational activity while others make it the central focus of their lives. Within the United States, surfing culture is most dominant in Hawaii and California because these two states offer the best surfing conditions. However, waves can be found wherever there is coastline, and a tight-knit yet far-reaching subculture of surfers has emerged throughout America. Some historical markers of the culture included the woodie, the station wagon used to carry surfers' boards, as well as boardshorts, the long swim shorts typically worn while surfing.
With all that being said it is truly one of the nicest days of the year in Bolinas. Full sunshine, blue skies, no wind and warm. High pressure system will stick around through the weekend with temps in the mid 60s to low 70s - currently 47F. Small waves but lots of beach and another big NW swell is heading our way expected to arrive this weekend. We'll take what there is until the bigger waves arrive. The Niners are in the Super Bowl and all is good in the Bay Area. Put your happy face on and come out to the beach. Great, great day for beginners today.
CHANNEL: Knee high sparklers in the Channel with 2 surfers and a SUP in the water. Nothing special but it is such a nice day here it would be a crime not to get in the water and ride a few rollers.
PATCH: Miscellaneous knee high waves scattered around the area. Good for logs or SUPs as well. Tide is low but turning around and some rocks are exposed but will get covered soon. Too nice of a day to not get wet.

Daily Surf Report - 1/30/2013
Goodmorning campers and welcome to the middle of the week AND the second-to-last day of the month! It's an absolutely gorgeous day out here at the beach this morning with the temperature coming at 43 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Again, the birds are out singing songs in the key of Curtis Mayfield, even the sun is wearing sun glasses because it's shinning so bright and that grumpy old Mr. Wind is nowhere to be found.... nor are the waves. Little ankle high crumblers are everywhere but there is no ticket to ride. Still, an SUP or a prone paddleboard would be nice for a little tour of Duxbury Reef or a paddle over to Stinson to the Poop House and back.
CHANNEL: Ankle high dribblers that could make "Pistol Pete" Maravich proud. Touring on an SUP might be fun today as it is a beautiful sunny day.
PATCH: Same as above... or, second verse, same as the first but a little bit louder and a little bit worse.

Daily Surf Report - 1/29/2013
Goodmorning wave sliders of the bay area! It's another beautiful sunny morning here at the beach with a temperature coming in at 47 degrees and it looks like just about everyone in town has had their "Grumpy-be-gone" shots because a lot of folks are smiling (for a change). The surf is about the same as yesterday. Little corners to glide upon here-and-there but clean rides are seemily hard to find. Still, it's far better than no surf, or nuclear war, or speeding tickets, or toothaches, or.....
CHANNEL: Coming in at waist (+/-) as the Channel is still spitting section-y wedges in front of the Groing Pole, Middle Bar as well as on the Sea Drift side. Six (6) Longboards and Custodial equipment that just can't get enough of that funky stuff.
PATCH: Thigh-to-waist high rollers coming through the middle of the Clam Patch and the Snags just like Frankie & Johnny do when they roll them bones! With the upcoming tide the window for this spot is indeed limited. No one out there but the ghosts from surfings past.

Daily Surf report - 1/28/2013
Goodmorning sliders of the H2O. It's 47 degrees and another wonderful sunny day here at the beach. There is something out there to be had at both spots and with a touch of patience one may be able to obtain the glide of the day. Big boards look to be the trend here and with the impending up-coming tide later in the morning this "Big Board Theory" looks to be spot-on.
CHANNEL: Coming in at waist + to an occasional chest-high set-wave, the Channel is spitting section-y wedges in front of the Groing Pole, Middle Bar and an occasional clean right on the Sea Drift side. If you can snatch the pebble from the Channel's hand then it is time for you to shred. About ten plus (10+) on longboards and SUP's getting into adventures an' stuff.
PATCH: Thigh-to-waist high rollers coming through the middle of the Clam Patch, the Snags and occasionally (!) between the Green/Grafitti wall and the Prick (Fallen Tree). Two (2) were out there gliding and sliding on a log and a Janitor board but they eventually left. Hm. Did somebody fart? No one there at the moment and with the up-coming tide neither will the waves, so get on it now!

Daily Surf Report - 1/27/2013
Calm and beautiful easy Sunday morning out here today. Sunny and light offshores, with some swell still lingering around.
Still fun size with a bit of push and consistently waist high + with standout waves up to chest high. Water level is getting high with tide peaking at 11:09am so be wary on entrance and exit from the beach. Bring what you like to ride and some sunscreen.
CHANNEL: good, fun, glassy and calm. About waist high with some occassional chestys. Plenty of people out and peaks popping up all over keeping it pretty spread out as well from seadrift to the boat ramp. Fishes, longoards, eggs, surfmats, handplanes, kayaks are all a go today.
PATCH: waves breaking from the outside all the way to the inside, but a little wish washy. A few head out and about bobbing and gliding, about knee to thigh high.

Daily Surf Report - 1/26/2013
Surfs up today as our latest delivery from the NW lingers around. Beautiful morning with sun rise over the fog shrouded Marin hills, windless and warm at 54F, a smooth ocean surf with swell and 25 of your favorite surfing buddies in the water. There are hipsters on fish, hulls and eggs, youthful shortboarders, old guys on logs, newbies on Wavestorms and lots of others in between.
Still fun size with a bit of push and consistently waist high + with standout waves up to shoulder high. Water level is getting high with tide peaking at 10:30am so be wary on entrance and exit from the beach. Bring what you like to ride and some sunscreen.
CHANNEL: Still lots of rideable peaks and waves this morning. Nice bowly, pocket left working off the Groin pole. Steep drop then workable to the inside. Best peak is the right off the Groin pole that runs into the Channel. Walls up on the drop, backs off a bit as it hits the inside ledge then stands up and run into the Channel. Prepare for a long paddle back to the line up. Seadrift side of things working as well the rights to ride. Lots of surfers in the water already and wave size runs waist + up to shoulder on the better ones. Nice and fun surf morning today.
PATCH: Working this morning as tide has not filled all the way in. Still have lots of water breaking up against the seawall so access is up and over then down the rocks. Inside waves are rideable and thigh/waist high. All rocks covered up. Outside peaks a bit scattered but rideable on a longboard this morning and size runs to waist high. Beautiful, sunny beach day as well so come on out and get some waves.

Daily Surf Report - 1/25/2013
Must be skunk mating season as there are a bunch flattened out there on the roads. Prepare for an odiferous drive out but it is sunny, windless and crystal clear at the beach today. Temp is 53F and warming with the last bit of high pressure system still in play. Energy from the WNW swell reaching into town today and it is better in the water than it looks on land. Those that stood on the wall talking and didn't surf missed out while those in the water scored. Glassy and smooth ocean surface and incoming tide a favorable combo to start the day. High tide has water coming up the boat ramp carrying small rocks and toe boulders so be careful and have a plan.
CHANNEL: Tide coming in and peaking in 1 hour but there are plenty of waves to ride currently. Nice little session with only 4 in the water trading off right and left peaks in the golden sunshine. Bowly little lefts off the Groin that heave then cup you and let you bottom and top turn towards the inside. Rights that wall up then back off on a ledgy section then wall up again and race to the inside of the Channel. Long rides to be had if you can pump for some speed. Incoming tide also has Mali-Bo working as well with workable inside rights. Wave heights average waist + with standouts at chest to shoulder. Fun stuff and rideable on lots of board types. Don't watch it - Get on it.
PATCH: Patch still trying to make sense of the swell but too much water has it confused at the moment. Lots of water smashing and bouncing of the seawall right now. Less water will help as there are bumps and lines out there just not breaking consistently. Size looks to be thigh to waist when it works.

Daily Surf Report - 1/24/2013
Overcast with low fog but windless and 52F this morning. Ocean is smooth with last residual leftovers of swell in the water. A few bumps to ride and a few surfers on longboards giving it their best efforts. Rideable to a degree and you can get wet if you need to. Something new in the N swell department is out there just not showing here yet.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Incoming tide has just peaked and will make its way back out to a small negative low. Outgoing tide could help with shape a bit but there are a few rights worth looking at coming in almost waist high. A bit white-watery to start then it hits the inside and cleans up a bit. Longboards are best bet now as swell energy is minor. Stay tuned for next round of N swell soon.
PATCH: The Patch is trying it's best this morning. However, with this high tide, backwash/bounce back and the absurd long periods of waiting a waist high set eventually comes through. Some waves break and others just tease but there are rollers out there to try. A surfer or two is on it and outgoing tide will help as it is maxed out now at 6.0'.

ATTENTION: We will be closing early today at 3:00 SHARP! However, we will re-open tomorrow morning at our usual time of 10AM. Thank you.
Buenas dias surferos del mar. It's overcast here at the beach with the temp coming in at about 54 degrees. Hardly any wind let alone a breeze to speak of this morning and that pretty much goes right along with the surf as well. An empty parking lot speaks volumes around here. Crumble bums are tumbling along in around the waist high (+/-) neighborhood, so if you like riding white water then this is your place. Otherwise, I'd wait for the tide to swing around later.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: With this high tide these tumbling tumbleweeds that resemble a minature wall of cotton balls are slogging in at about waist high. It could change later with the tide but it's gonna' be a sharp turn-around that's sharper than a Samurai Sword from Kill Bill (parts I & II)! If there is a change I'll update...if not, I won't. Nobody out here but some flotsom.
PATCH: The Patch is trying it's best this morning. However, with this high tide, backwash/bounce back and the absurd loooooooong periods of waiting a waist high set (sorta') comes through. However (oh, yeah there's always one of these) these "sets" are crumbling and stalling and just when you think it's gonna' break clean...it doesn't. Again, maybe later with this radical tide change but I think the window of opportunity is going to be a super short one... if it shows at all. Same as above, I'll update if there is a change...if not, I won't. No one here and for good reason.

Goodmorning sliders of the sea! It's another sunny morning here at the beach today at a comfortable 55 degrees and yes, that off-shore wind is still here as well. The swell has dropped a significant amount but there are still rolling lumps of water in which to slide upon. Rain is in the forcast for later in the week so get a glide while you can or practice your Gene Kelly impersonation because you'll be singing in the rain.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: With the off-shore wind and the draining lagoon the conditions here could be a new Ben & Jerry's flavor; Chunky & Funky. Still, it's in the waist plus catagory breaking/crumbling/sectioning right at the mouth of the lagoon. Maybe later with the upcoming tide it'll clean up better than a hillbilly before church on Sunday. Two (2) Barney's out there having fun doing the Straight-off Adolph.
PATCH: Even with this "Honey, I shrunk the Swell" the Patch is pushing thigh (+/-) rights through the middle to the inside and over towards the Snags. Of course, as the tide recedes like Lance Armstrong's career the rocks will be there like a troll under a bridge. There are no takers here at the moment.

Daily Surf Report - 1/21/2013
Greetings sea fairing humaniods to another week in surflandia. It's sunny and about 56 degrees, which is far better than last week as the swell is also sticking around (albeit, a little less so) and there are waves to slide upon, HOWEVER the hard, off-shore wind is really making for a less-than-stellar situation out here at the beach today. The skinny is as follows; Waist-to-shoulder-to-occasional-head high but the wind is stiffer than a junior high kid with a stack of Playboys. You will need to toss in a couple of extra paddles on your take-off to gain entry into waves today. All boards can work today...it just depends on operator experience.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Today, this is the spot for the waist-shoulder-occasional head high goods on the Groin pole and between the Groin Pole and Boat Ramp. The lagoon is draining pretty fast right now making positioning a bit of a chore. Pick your indicator (like the Groin pole or edge of the Air Plane House fence line) and try to keep to it. Closing out mostly but there is an occasional corner to occupy for a down-the-line glide. About ten (10) longboards looking for Mr. Goodbar.
PATCH: Waist high (+/-) breaking/crumbling in the middle of the Clam Patch and towards the Snags. The tide is going out so the backwash/bounce back shouldn't be a factor but on the inside the subsequent rocks will bite you or your board given the chance. As always, the bigger the board the better the glide. The extra couple of paddles thrown in on a take off apply here as well...maybe even a couple more for good measure. Just Hank & Mary out there right now.

Daily Surf Report - 1/20/2013
It's STILL here! Buoy readings on Pt Reyes of 8.1ft @ 18.2s today. I think it may have peaked last nite like the full tweak poncho clad riding. Mini-Mavericks out here in Bolinas today with lumpy, bumpy swell but be sure to tune into the live webcast if you're not watching the futbol game. Lots of water moving around. Stiff offshore winds as well. Surf heights are anywhere from waist to chest to shoulder to head or better. Some waves are not rideable and close out the beach. Some let you in then clamp down. Some have nice open faces and room for turns and a few crumbly chandeliers are grinding away. Choose wisely as there are some golden ticket rides to be had. Do or do not, there is no try.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: swell still kicking around a bit in here, lot's of swell lines and sand moved around, some corners here and there. Waves in the waist to shoulder high range, lot's of closeouts but little shoulders here and there too. About 20 guys pretty spread out from middle channel to the boat ramp on mixed equipment, fishes, shortys, longdongs, eggs, and sponges.
PATCH: plenty of people out on longboards and SUPs and some waves crumbling through in the wast high region. A little all over the place but some fun mellow rides to be had for sure.

Daily Surf Report - 1/19/2013
It's here! Buoy readings of 6' @ 22s today. Expected to peak and linger for a couple of days with residual energy into Monday. Mini-Mavericks out here in Bolinas today with lumpy, bumpy swell. Lots of water moving around. Stiff offshore winds as well. It may be in the 30s where you live but out here it is currently 55F due to the NE air flow. Surf heights are anywhere from waist to chest to shoulder to head or better. Some waves are not rideable and close out the beach. Some let you in then clamp down. Some have nice open faces and room for turns and a few TUBES were seen and ridden as well. Choose wisely as there are some golden ticket rides to be had.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Offshore winds are stiff and holding up the faces. Takes a bit of paddling to get into the waves and down the face. You're off to the races once you are in. Plenty of surf all over the place with the corners working best and cleanest. Rights into the Channel and lefts at the Groin with sizes from waist to head high +. Tides are favorable throughout the day. Giddy up!
PATCH: Big rolling waves breaking in the Patch today. Some are way, way outside and some are mid way and inside as well. Rideable to a certain degree if you choose carefully. Some close out but there are good rides as well to be had. Size runs anywhere from waist up to shoulder or better. Bring your longboard and score today. A nice change from the flat conditions earlier in the week.

Daily Surf Report - 1/18/2013
2:30pm Update:
Ripples on the horizon with waves in the Patch reaching knee high on the inside. Channel breaks occasionally and almost thigh high on the Groin bar when it does. Swell still filling in and may not see it fully until tomorrow. Weather remains beautiful with sunny skies, light offshore winds and temps in the low 60s.
Not quite yet but on the way.... Still waiting for the new WNW swell to fill in and peak over the next 2 days. Great NE winds already have the town temp up to 46F. You will see frost and ice on the drive out but the beach weather is clear, sunny and beautiful. Will update conditions this afternoon as things change for the better.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Offshore and groomed up mini barrels and grinders in the calf high size only. Hoping for more swell to show up and produce but currently only 3 surfer on the Seadrift side making a go of the small surf conditions. Very small and breaking only on the inside. Low tide-ish so lots of sand and Groin wall exposed.
PATCH: Triple over banacle and reeling rights at the Patch. Ankle high clam clampers. Seahorse size surf at the moment. As for regular humans - not yet.

Daily Surf Report - 1/17/2013
Frosty, white hills with clear, blue skies and full on sunshine. Temps in the 30s in the shade but warming up at the beach and already a balmy 45F. Still have flat ocean but something big is coming down from the north. Very long period swell which has the Mavericks organizers calling for contest conditions this weekend. Not sure what it will translate to here but deeper water canyons will benefit big time. Tides will cooperate and expect offshore winds as well.
We are still flat out here today but looks to be a phenomenal beach day or SUP tour or kayak paddling day as it is clear and beautiful with lots of beach available. Should start to see some ripples as the weekend approaches and we will update you as to all positive surf condition changes.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Sea Squirrels only conditions. Very small and breaking only on the inside. Low tide-ish so lots of sand and Groin wall exposed.
PATCH: Double over banacle and reeling at the Patch. Shrink yourself down to 12" in height and you will be stoked. As for regular humans - not yet.

Daily Surf Report - 1/16/2013
Attention: We will be closing early today but will open tomorrow at our usual time of 10AM. Thanks.
Shhh. Don't make too much noise as we don't want to do anything foolish like, oh I dunno, wake up the surf! Yes, you've guessed it. The surf is still in a horizontal position today. It's sunny and a bit warmer (!) at 38 degrees, yet we're getting absolutely Z-E-R-O cooperation from our homie, Neptune (We owe him money, or what?). However, word has it that there is some big surf signed, sealed and being shipped for later in the week as I write this, so keep the faith and an eye peeled.

Daily Surf Report - 1/15/2013
Attention K-Mart shoppers: We will be closing early today however, we will open tomorrow at the usual time of 10AM. Thank you.
What a beautiful morning (as the Rascals used to sing). The sun is up, the temp is cold (30-ish), the sky is blue, the birds are singing, the squirrels are squirreling and the surf is exactly like the tires on that old International pick-up truck on Brighton... classic but flat. Duxbury Reef is snoozing as well but it is a gorgeous day and if you don't have to work, go to school or you're on a work-release program it's a perfect day to hike around the beach or Mt. Tam.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.

Daily Surf Report - 1/14/2013
Well, goodmorning and welcome to another new week campers! It's sunny and brisk this morning at the beach with the temp coming in at the moment around 31 degrees (in the shop it's probably about -2 but at least there is no wind chill factor). As for the surf...well, it is trying (Duxbury Reef looks as if it's awoke from it's early morning slumber but we'll have to wait it out and see) but for the time being it looks as if we're all going to have to sing a hearty rendition of that tried-and-true classic, "Lake Bolinas." Sing it in any key you wish as long as it's in a FLAT key. If there are any changes you know I'll post it here. If not, well you know the name of that tune as well.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Flatter than a pancake. Flatter than a tortilla. Flatter than a pool table and twice as green. Flatter than the EKG line of one of Dr. Kavorkian's patients. Cold and chilly but sunny and no wind. Looks like another beautiful winter's day out here in Bolinas. Alas, there is no surf to speak of, looking rather like a lake out there today, pray for surf!

Daily Surf Report - 1/12/2013
Cold, clear and beautiful morning in Bolinas. Some parts frosty and 30F, some parts not and 38F with sunshine. Sunny and clear skies. Light offshores again and lingering swell producing clean and fun surfing conditions. Sandbars are set and swell direction is favorable. King tides again today with extreme morning highs and negative low lows in the afternoon. Please have an entrance and exit strategy when heading out to surf as the boat ramp, seawall and rocks are not your friends and will damage both you and your board if you get smashed up against them. FYI - we do sell boots, hoods and gloves if your extremities are cold.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Rights in the Channel on the Groin bar giving us waves from the outside and through into Mali-Bo. Size goes thigh to waist and offshore winds have things smooth and clean. Backlit cylinders of goodness from the sunshine. Smooth and rideable with all types of boards in the water. Starts soft then hits the inside shallow section and races into the Channel. Faces to sink a rail or pocket turn a fish are available. Plenty of peaks to go around. Should be even better later in the day with outgoing tide but is working now with lots of water. Decreasing beach as we speak but still easy access. Watch out for rip heading towards Stinson as tide drops almost 8 feet later today.
PATCH: Incoming high tide and it is trying to break. Occasional rights in the calf/knee size about mid way outside. A SUP or two on it this morning. Small to flat for surfing right now but nice for the SUPs or kayak touring while you wait for conditions to change. All rocks covered up and the day is dry, clear, beautiful and totally sunny. Tide change throughout the day should turn this spot on in the early afternoon.

Daily Surf Report - 1/11/2013
Closing today at 3:30pm. We will open tomorrow at 10am
Not nearly as cold or icy as predicted. Currently 44F and partly cloudy. Light offshore winds grooming things up and a good working sandbar in the Channel delivering waves. King tides again today with extreme morning highs and negative low lows in the afternoon. Please have an entrance and exit strategy when heading out to surf as the boat ramp, seawall and rocks will not treat you or your board kindly if you get smashed up against them. New bump up in swell today but timing will be critical as to how much water makes things work best.

Should be even better with outgoing tide but is working now with lots of water. Watch out for rip heading towards Stinson as tide drops almost 9 feet again today.
PATCH: High tide is still not working in the Patch this morning. Flat for surfing but nice for the SUPs or kayak touring at the moment. All rocks covered up and the day is dry and beautiful if not totally sunny. Tide change throughout the day should turn this spot on in the later morning to early afternoon. Daily Surf Report - 1/9/2013
Achtung! We will be closing early today but will be open tomorrow at our regular time 10AM.
Hello and goodmorning to you humanoids of the swells. It's 48 degrees and overcast here at the beach this morn' with a little bit (I do mean 'little bit') of swell that has picked up over night. However, with this higher than Bob Marley tide it's really flooding the beach making it difficult to get clean slides at the moment. Again, a radical tide swing is a comin' later today so that could be the best time for wave time. Storms with rain and wind are due later and tomorrow--just sayin'. Also, be careful when entering and exiting the water with these tides. Use good judgement!
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Waist to occasional, just-under-chest high "things" rolling in about the Groin Pole to Middle inside bar that are section-y and with the tide tend to mush out towards the end. Later today with the changing tide I bet this spot gets to firing. Just hope it does before the rain and wind arrives. Four (4) longboards pretending that it's awesome before they have to go off to work and harsh their collective buzz.
PATCH: High tide + The Patch = Surfing elsewhere. Rolling but not breaking at all. 'Course, later today with that tide change this could be the slide spot. Two (2) Sea Gulls on a piece of drift wood (tandem?)--I kid you not.

Hello and goodmorning to you humanoids of the swells. It's 48 degrees and overcast here at the beach this morn' with a little bit (I do mean 'little bit') of swell that has picked up over night. Again, a radical tide swing is a comin' later today so that could be the best time for wave time. Storms with rain and wind are due later and tomorrow--just sayin'. Daily Surf Report - 1/8/2013
Attention: We will be closing early today but we will be open tomorrow morning at our usual time 10AM. Thanks!
Goodmorning children of the brine! It's sunny out and a cool 44 degrees here at the beach today. That dwindling swell I wrote about yesterday has dwindled a smidge more. Sure, there's a bit of a bump out there now but with that dwindle mixed with the high tide it's so soft even Viagra couldn't help it now. Before you go sulking away remember; there is always hope with the afternoon tide swing.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: If this were a ride at Disney Land no one over five years of age would be on it. There is a thigh/waist high foamer drooling across the middle bar and into the lagoon but with a minute swell and a tide that is so high it makes Jeff Spicoli and Cheech & Chong look like sober, right-wing repulicans that perhaps later with that Lizzy Borden moodswing tide it could get better. Four (4) Longboards out there doing whatever it is one will do with these conditions.
PATCH: High tide + The Patch = grunting. Little rolling speed bumps that would seem more in place in a strip mall parking lot. Yup. The tide swing later today could spruce this place up rather well. No one out except the sun and bird life at the moment.
PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 1/6/2012
About 47F degrees and the storm has cleared out mostly, light sprinkles, but glassy conditions. Light east wind is grooming it a bit and there is a little bit of surf in both spots today.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Little bits of surf here and there but glassy and nice, about 10 guys on seadrift and 4 on the groin. Waves in the knee to waist high range.
PATCH: about 3 loggers jamming it out there right now with shin to thigh high waves rolling on through, tide will bottom out soon though so maybe when it turns around in the evening.

Daily Surf Report - 1/5/2013
Current temp of 50F with light southerly winds blowing against your cheek. A bit of texture on the ocean but some waves to be ridden none the less. Rain expected tonight and currently overcast with a few rays of sunshine breaking through. Get it while you can.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Pieces and parts with scattered peaks across the area. Breaking out front of the boat ramp as well. Size is thigh to maybe waist high and still not too clean or holding up too well but some break and can be ridden and turned on if you have patience. Seadrift still has the best shaped waves today. Low tide approaching so it will become a bit rippy in the middle.
PATCH: Pop up peaks and toe busting rocks making an appearance in the Patch this morning. Still have inside rights to be surfed and the outside peaks are delivering surf as well. Size is thigh high + and big boards are the call. Occasional left can be surfed but be careful as tide continues to drop and rocks reach the surface. Afternoon incoming tide session has been good and clean hopefull we can expect the same results today. Grab your log and cruise.

Daily Surf Report - 1/4/2013
Not as cold but still a bit frosty this morning. Another Bo-beautiful day here with clear skies full of sunshine and a few patchy clouds, temp of 42F and light NE winds warming it up. New little dose of N swell in the water today picking it up a notch. Still on the small side but a bit cleaner and rideable at both spots in town.
Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Seadrift has the best shaped waves today with surf in the waist high range. Longboards and SUPs across the Channel and on it now. Low tide approaching so it will become a bit rippy in the middle. Deeper Channel bar is intermittent today but does deliver clean rights when swell hits it just right. Groin bar still shifting around but has small thigh high waves that mostly closeout but occasionally a gem comes through heading left.
PATCH: Pop up peaks all over in the Patch this morning. Inside rights to be surfed and some rock navigation in the thigh high + size. Outside waves are best when they break and can be ridden until the inside. Still have some lines coming through but scattered with mixed results. Afternoon incoming tide session was good and clean yesterday and expect same results today. Grab your log and cruise.

Daily Surf Report - 1/3/2013
Frosty white hills with clear blue skies full of sunshine. Winter at its finest today. Current temp is 39 with ENE winds that will help warm things up a bit before too long. Diminishing NW swell still has a long interval on the buoys. Small surf in town today. Perfect for the longboard.
ALSO: Be careful when driving the West Marin environs this time of year. Black ice is prevalent and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and it takes a while to thaw out. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: Low tide approaching so a bit rippy in the middle. Mostly closeout waves in the thigh + size but occasionally a nice right that holds up and allows a few turns. Deeper Channel bar is still best with rides over to Seadrift. Groin bar still needs fixing to really clean up but a few knee high insiders that you can drop into. Energy has backed off so a longboard is the right call today. Incoming morning tide could have this spot working better in a few short hours.
PATCH: Afternoon incoming tide session with Lilly, Jonathon, Jeff and Skye. Plenty of waves in the thigh to waist high size. Fun rights rolling along until the inside. Still have some lines coming through but scattered with mixed results. Knee crunching rights on the inside look the best with intermittent lefts and a few outside peaks that want to break but dont. Tide will fill in and cover all the showing rocks and that could be the ticket here. David and Hank putting on suits and heading this direction.

Daily Surf Report - 1/2/2013
Happy New Year kids! It's another sunny day here at the beach and that is ALWAYS a great way to start the year, yes? It's a coolish 48 degrees in the air and slightly warmer in the ocean. The little bit of swell we had is dwindling at the moment and the side-shore wind isn't really helping matters, either. If one looks out at Duxbury Reef you can see that the slabs that were once pile driving it for the past few days has now cooled it's jets quite a bit. Still, with the tide change and such there is always hope for later. Check back here later today for an update--if no update appears that would indicate that the conditions are either the same OR worse.
ALSO: Be mindful when traversing the West Marin environs by vehicle this time of year. The nights-into-early-mornings have reached freezing tempatures and there are still small patches of ice on the road as the sun is low in the sky and the PCH (Highway 1) is a bit hilly so sunshine doesn't always hit every spot. Drive slowly and with caution.
CHANNEL: That pesky tide is making the Channel look a bit like the Patch on a mushy day. Waist high close outs and section-y undulations on the middle bar and occasionally the Groin Pole. A couple of longboards waaaaaay over at Sea Drift finding an occasional corner that eventually turns into a white water rapid. Perhaps later in the day with the tide change it could look better than the current crappy motel painting that it is right now.
PATCH: Slower than Forest Gump processing a thought. There are some lines coming through that are somewhere in the neighborhood of waist high but not all of them break...in fact, hardly any of them are peeling. Outside of the Rock/Meeting Rock/Bulk Head are lines, middle of the Patch and inside (with the snarling, ding inducing rocks)there are lines BUT not a lot of gliders. Patients is what will work today. Four (4) intrepid wishful thinkers out there now...one (1) longboard and three (3) custodians buffing the floors for school on Monday.
PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.
