Daily Surf Report - 2/29/2012

Happy Leap Year Day!

Welcome to the day that is not supposed to exist.
The beach has nothing extrodinary to show me right now.
Quite normal actually. Morning sickness, of slight onshore symptoms.
Light overcast from the rain last night, and somewhat warm temps of about 53 degress. There is no crowd, and there still is a little surf out there.
The sun is coming out and I believe today could shape up. Will keep you posted.

Channel: Feathering through the middle section with the onshore wind, surfable little ramps to the inside, but quite small and week in most spots, doesn't get rampy till the inside. 1 guy out.

Patch: needs something, water and swell and I imagine. Ankle-ish. Tide is still dropping.

New logs in the shop. Resin tinted and Volan cloth - a classic combination. Big wide noses and fins. Soft, buttery rails to cruise, glide and trim. These are both 10.0' and were shaped by master craftsman, Bob Miller, out of Santa Cruz. These are the last coming out of his shaping bay for a while as he is sailing off to warmer waters. If you want a board to rule the Patch come take a look.

2012 Tide Logs are finally in. Come by to pick one up.

Just a reminder to pack your trash!!! PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Tides:

Low: 10:01 am 1.1'
High: 5:01 pm 3.6'
Low: 9:30 pm 2.8'

We are now open daily from 10am - 5pm for our Winter hours from NOVEMBER through APRIL. Come out to rent if you need gear. We have a full selection of suits, boots, boards, surf mats and SUPs to rent every day and are only 522 steps to the beach.

Daily Surf Report - 2/28/2012

Tues~
11 Am: Things seem like they would never change. And the tide and wind are picking up. Still surfable in the channel.

9:oo AM:
Oh the shifting sands~ It's great when things shift into a spot of predictability, periodically.
It’s the way the little waves are breaking off the sandbar. Predictably peeling in both directions, off the same breaking spot. This is great for surfers who can’t decide where they want to go.
The waves are about waist high, somewhat consistent, and the conditions are a pleasant windless overcast.

Channel: mellow peak out the deep end of the channel, splitting down both sides of the sandbar right now, but only about knee to waist high, maybe a few bigger every once in a while.

Patch: needs something, water and swell and I imagine. Ankle-ish.

Daily Surf Report - 2/27/2012

Mundi,

It's still like it was, and doesn't look like it shouldn't.
I mean. Those waves, that you can surf. They are still there, at your waistline on both sides. Sit out on the edge of the channel and go either way you like, I don't care ~ Because it is so nice out. FYI- If you come by the shop... I will be in the back covered in Coco butter working on my tan.

Channel: mellow peak out the deep end of the channel, splitting down both sides of the sandbar right now, but only about knee to waist high, maybe a few bigger every once in a while.

Daily Surf Report - 2/26/2012

This Sunday,
It's a warm and sunny 55 degrees. There are a bunch of little waves, and a lot of surfers. About 20 people in the channel, about 6 at the patch.
The channel has little longboardable waves splitting right and left out the back, looking slow but peeley. If you and a friend tried you could almost split this outside little peak down both sides of the channel...
The sky is clear. And the wind is nill'''

Channel: mellow peak out the deep end of the channel, splitting down both sides of the sandbar right now, but only about knee to waist high, maybe a few bigger every once in a while.

Patch: Looking like a bit more water will help and incoming tide is on the way. Scattered waves in the knee to thigh range with longboards and SUPs in the water. The inside right has been smooth but watch out for rocks with low tide.

Daily Surf Report - 2/25/2012

Clear, sunny and crisp morning in Bolinas with moderate NE winds blowing offshore/sideshore. Grooming up the surf but putting a bit of chill in the air. High pressure system remains and looks to be another beautiful beach day. Currently 47 degrees and sunny.

Channel: Low tide starting to fill in and may give a little push. Waves are small but stand up quick and break fast with the shallow water. Spray off the back and in the knee to thigh high range. A solid 1 - 2'. Seadrift not working yet. Lefts in the Channel and the Groin corner are the call with a few fully shacked ankles witnessed.

Patch: Looking like a bit more water will help and incoming tide is on the way. Scattered waves in the knee to thigh range with longboards and SUPs in the water. The inside right has been smooth but watch out for rocks with low tide.

Daily Surf Report - 2/24/2012

Another beautiful, clear, sunny day in Bolinas this morning...
Currently 51 degrees and warming up. Very light offshore winds grooming up the small waves. A great day to come out and have some fun at the beach.

Channel: Breaking really smooth, with a little spray off the back, in the thigh to waist high range. Fun left peelers. Seadrift rights continue to work also in the waist high range. Tide filling in may give a little push. Moderate N swell running on the buoys. Longboards are the call but midlengths will work on the rights.

Patch: Showing a bit more today. Still breaking way outside for SUPs and big logs in the waist high + range. Inside right is also still working and smooth and in the thigh high + range. Looks clean and fun.

New logs in the shop. Resin tinted and Volan cloth - a classic combination. Big wide noses and fins. Soft, buttery rails to cruise, glide and trim. It's Crystal Clear out here. Not a cloud in the sky, the water is glassy, and there are small fun waves over at the channel. There is also a little crew on it, about 10 people. 53 degrees, sunny, no wind...yet.

Tuesday, 8:20am
New moon at 2:35 pm. Make a wish.
Maybe wish for surf while your at it.
You can also make the best with what we have. It's about waist high in the channel, and if the sun breaks through the clouds in a little while, it could be another day of fun surfing and nice conditions.
Currently it is about 48degrees, morning overcast, light light onshores.
With a building high tide.

Channel: Thigh to waist through the inside, a couple of people out on longboards through the inside groin bar. they are longboard surfing on the waves.

Patch: Not yet, but maybe in a bit.

Daily Surf Report - 2/20/2012

President's Day,
The conditions are somewhat calm, overcast, light onshore winds, not too much texture on the water, most likely a little morning sickness and should clear if and when the sun does come out turning winds into the favorable prevailing WNW direction. The surf at the moment is having a hard time showing me what it is made of. This is because there is a 6 ft high tide peaking in just a few minutes. I did see a series of swells come in cleanly and break off the middle groin bar, but there frequency was infrequent. With less water I am sure this will be a much more surfable day.

Channel: waiting for the tide to back off, about 3 surfers in the water.
Occasional nice waist high walled up wave.

Patch: Not yet, but maybe in a bit.

Daily Surf Report - 2/18/2012

Best wishes and prayers go out to Jim and Martha Robinson who were both injured in a car accident while driving home from the beach last weekend. Jim and Martha are Bolinas regulars and great people. Get well soon and see you back in the lineup!

Fat tide buttery-ness with NW-esterlies blowing. A mix of swells with some long period and wind swell combo. Streaky skies with sun playing hide and seek and a current temp of 50F. Rideable surf in town for all boards today.

Channel: Peaking high tide now switching. Surf in the waist to almost chest high size. Sets off the deeper Channel bar getting up to neck high. Inner Groin bar shortboardable but soft and full. Consistent right at Seadrift if you are inclined. Outgoing tide should cause the rollers to pitch and break later today. 12 surfers in the water.

Patch: Not happening so good here so far. Inside waves about knee high. Could be too much water but tide is now heading out. Only 2 surfers on longboards currently out.

New logs in the shop. Resin tinted and Volan cloth - a classic combination. Big wide noses and fins. Soft, buttery rails to cruise, glide and trim. Best wishes and prayers go out to Jim and Martha Robinson who were both injured in a car accident while driving home from the beach last weekend. Jim and Martha are Bolinas regulars and great people. Get well soon and see you back in the lineup!

High pressure system remains active with offshore flow. Warm and clear into the weekend. Today starts at 43F with sunny, blue skies.
Slight uptick on the buoy readings and surf has come up a bit as well. Surf is still small but rideable with a bit more energy today. Longboards are working best but shortboards can get moving on the inner Groin bar.

Channel: Draining tide with waves off the Channel bar. Looks to be a smooth, waist high + left. Inner Groin bar shortboardable and also waist high. Seadrift still has rights working as well. 8 surfers in the water.

Patch: Waist high waves breaking outside on the higher tide. A little cleaner inside but big logs and SUPs are getting into the outer waves. Smooth and rideable rights to be surfed. Higher tide covers rocks but they are there so keep an eye out. About 8 - 10 in the water.

New logs in the shop. Resin tinted and Volan cloth - a classic combination. Big wide noses and fins. Soft, buttery rails to cruise, glide and trim. Daily Surf Report - 2/13/2012

Munday....Valentines Day Eve
The Waters are lonely, Stormy and.....Pumping and Perfect!
This storm is Blowing out of the north for some odd reason. So the waves are actually clean. Not a single person out. Waves are coming into both spots with nice shape. The Bar in the Channel looks clean.
47degrees, winds about 10 mph out of the NW with sideways rain.
Not mellow, but not lame either.

Channel: Waist to Chest, peeling smooth with not much of a section.
No one out. Cold rain.

Patch: knee/waist, maybe a few little bits bigger.
With the high tide later today we could have patch waves rad too.

Daily Surf Report - 2/12/2012

It's another beautiful summer...ergh..winter....um, day?
About 48 degrees and about 48 people in the water. The parking lot and street are already full and the sheriff is driving around making his rounds, the department must need some money cause I saw him write two tickets this morning while I was checking the surf. Fairly glassy conditions, there are some waves, tide bottomed out a bit ago, and crowded, but hey, that's Bolinas in summertime, oh, wait...

Channel: waves are grinding along...knee/waist high with occasional torso/chest manta ray waves breaking. About 28-30 surfers on mixed equipment on the groin/lefts and a handful of poachers over at seadrift on some rights. Tide is filling, so get it while you can.

Patch: knee/waist, maybe a few little bits bigger. Lot's of rocks but lots of starfish wranglin' waves. About 4-6 SUPers out and about 12-16 surfers loggin' around. Should improve with the tide push.

Daily Surf Report - 2/11/2012

Ahoy Polloi -

Surf still cleaning up and weather currently dry. Patches of blue with intermittent sunshine and light NW wind. Temp is 51F. Still swell in the water and on the northern buoys. Mixed bag hitting all the bars and giving us fun and rideable waves. Tide has switched to incomimg and north current has slacked off.

Channel: Consistent waist high waves with a few up to chest high. The sets are holding up better today and are more rideable and up to shoulder high when they come through. Most are smooth and some are textured. The left is good and moving between the Channel and Groin bars but is very rideable and fun. Longboards are the best call today but a few shortboards making a go of it. About 25 already in the water but decently spread out from the Groin to Seadrift.

Patch: Breaking way outside and again all over the place. Inside waves are cleaner and lined up and there are long rides to be had. SUPs getting in early with the paddle advantage but big logs will reap rewards as well. Size is waist high + today.

Daily Surf Report - 2/10/2012

Mixed bag with changing conditions. Still decent swell in the water and relatively clean. Weather has changed to a bit drizzly rain but wind is not a factor. Balmy, overcast and 51F. Tide is filling in and north current has slacked off. Surf all over the place hitting lots of sandbars and giving us rideable waves.

Channel: Consistent waist to chest high. A few sets actually closing out and maybe head high. Some are smooth and some are textured. Still a good left that is moving between the Channel and Groin bars but is very rideable with more makeable sections today. Not as fast or thick as yesterday but a decent amount of push that gets shortboards going today. About 10-12 in the water on a mixture of equipment.

Patch: Breaking outside and all over the place. Looks like an SUP convention with at least 8 way outside catching waves. Might be a meeting I am unaware of. Inside waves are cleaner and lined up and there are long rides to be had. Bring out your big single-fin and get some. A crew of about 12 in total on it with wave height waist high +.

Daily Surf Report - 2/9/2012

Clear conditions with residual swell in the water.

Sunny skies, the wind is light, and the waves are still breaking everywhere. Has cleaned up a bit but still sectiony and scattered. Surfable but right place right time is the motto of the day. Beautiful morning with current temp of 47F and nothing but clear weather ahead.

Channel: Waist to Chest to Head. Good left that is moving between the bars but is very rideable and sometimes hollow. A few are making the section and getting waves to the inside. Fast and thicker than usual. Shortboards work but longboards get you in earlier. About 8 in the water.

Patch: Breaking outside and all over the place. Inside waves are cleaner and lined up with longer rides. The right big board will work wonders today if you don't mind paddling a bit to line things up. A crew of logs and SUPs are on it and waves are waist high +.

Daily Surf Report - 2/8/2012

Stormsurf, without the storm ~

The storm of yesterday has passed, the conditions are clear, the wind is light, and the waves are still breaking everywhere. The channel has a biggish long sectiony left, with rights breaking off too. Out the outer bar. Small crew is doing their best, not seeing too many good rides though.

Patch is breaking out the back, but nothing inside organized to shape.
So much energy moving around, not the best day for a crew of kiddos, but could be fun for most intermiediate and advanced small wave hounds.

Channel: Chest to Head. Fast, thicker than usual, shortboard for sure, have not seen anybody make the big section, but could be way better later today.

Patch: inside patch is not shaping up, the outer patch has long mushburgers, and looks fun for Tom Blake and the Duke.

Daily Surf Report - 2/7/2012

Small Craft advisory/ Victory at Sea
~ If you paddled out right now, had fun, and caught a wave, the real victory would be yours... if you actually want it.
Because right now, there are no takers at all.
The waves are there, but boy so is that wind.
Stormsurf conditions. Cloudy with light rain. Lots of waves. Not really a good time to bring the kiddies since Bo doesn't have a lifeguard. Only experienced hurricane surfers, and maybe just the right SUP rider.

Channel: Waist to head high, Bermuda triangle sand bar is showing, waves coming from every direction at once.

Patch: This is the ironman of patch days, looks like the cape horn of Bolinas. About waist to chest, waves breaking everywhere.
