Daily Surf Report - 1/3/2015

Inspirational Crystal Quote Of The Day:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Frosty and 40F as the day starts with a blazing red orb rising over the Marin hills.  Streaky skies turn red to purple to blue as the morning arrives in earnest.  Get up early and out there.  Don't waste a minute of this fabulous day on trivial pursuits.  Seek what nurtures and find your inner prize.  Only NW windswell in the water and plenty of tide still rising.  The ocean is unfettered and unencumbered by waves this morning.  Conditions are clean and optimal, just lacking the waves.  Think of the productivity you can achieve without the surfing distractions that are not present today.  Time and tide may tell a different tale later in the day but for now Try Wait.

CHANNEL:  One dolphin.  4 pelicans.  A dominating quietude on the ocean surface.  No bumps, rollers or breaking waves yet.  Low tide afternoon did produce a perfect knee high spinner for 45 minutes yesterday.  Fickle at best and soft in the truest sense.

PATCH:  Phenomenal for sailing or other flat water pursuits.  No wind.  No waves.  No surfers present save for 1 seal basking in the solitude.  Likely not the spot to keep an eye on today as swell direction holds a negative prognosis.

Shaper meet and greet TODAY, 1/3/2015 at 10am:
David Vernor, the man behind Vernor surfboards, will be in the shop from 10am to 11am. Melt minds and create a new board.  Talk fin placement, tail thickness and rocker profile. Maybe just browse the rack of in-stock boards as no-wave days are great shopping days. We have Mini Simmons, shortboards, hybrids, eggs, Mini-Mals, HP longboards and Classic Noseriders in the shop. Always hand-made from start to finish in Santa Cruz.
