Daily Surf Report - 3/11/2011

Tsunami warning for CA coast due to 8.9 magnitude earthquake off the eastern coast of Japan. Warning in effect from 8:00am - Noon. Patch water has sucked out and exposed entire reef 2 times then filled back in quickly.

We have sunny skies, no wind and a current temp or 50F. Today promises to be a nice day with no rain. Fingers crossed! Good news is the northern buoys are show swell activity and there should be some decent surf in the area later today and through the weekend.

Channel/Groin: Thigh to waist high waves, breaking on the outside bar. Things are shifting around with the tsunami activity but there are currently waves in the Channel.

Patch: Lots of ocean activity with water levels moving up and down but surf has moved to more of the out front boat ramp area. Surfers out cathcing waves in the waist high + size.

NEWS: Mini Simmons Surfboards -
With the return of retro and classic surfboards, many surfers love the feel of riding a Mini Simmons board. Based on the early designs of Bob Simmons, who was light years ahead of his peers, the boards were considered revolutionary at the time. They have enjoyed resurgence in the last few years with a massive decrease in their length, and a modernization of their features. The best way to describe these boards is short and wide. The board is a revelation to ride. They are loose, oh so skatey and the fastest board you’ll feel under your feet - period.
Designed so that even the heaviest of riders can go small in size, these boards are ridden ridiculously small, rarely getting over the 6’0” mark. An awesome alternative to the swallow-tail fish which can tend to be tippy and doesn’t handle bigger surf well.
Vernor Surfboards is blending old and new ideas together with this board. Featuring a displacement hull with almost no rocker and improved by ending the tail with a double concave and a 4-fin setup. Come by the shop on Saturday, 3/12/2011, to meet the shaper and be one of the first to get your hands on the boards. David will be in the shop to show boards and answer questions from 10am - Noon.

We have new locally shaped SK8 Hand Planes in the shop made from recycled skateboards. Pair it with a set of Churchill fins and you will always have a smile on your face after your session. Each plane is unique and has individual signed artwork. Come by the shop and check them out. Makes a great gift for the surfer in the family.

Awesome board bags from Deeper Visions are flying out the door. Hand-made by a local Bolinas artist. A perfect way to store your board and all are one of a kind. Check out our current selection or ask about a custom order.
