Daily Surf Report - 3/14/2014

TGIF and good morning!  A bit of coastal cloudiness greets us this morning but patches of blue and sun are starting to show through.  No wind and very quiet and calm in town.  Temp is 52F and we will see warm temps into the weekend.  Diminishing swell leaving leftovers today but still some good pickings if you take the time to look and explore.  Longboards are the recommended board for the day as surf is small but smooth and rideable. 

CHANNEL:  Ride the inside Mali-Bo rights or seek serenity across the channel at Seadrift.  Just knee high waves on the Bolinas side and the incoming tide is giving that push to get things moving towards shore.  Still smooth but a lot smaller today.  A few more consistent and bigger waves can be had at Seadrift where there look to be rights and lefts in the waist high category.  Please bring a longboard into the water here if you wish to ride waves.  3 in the water.

PATCH:  Still surfable for log enthusiasts and janitors alike.  Bring a big board or long paddle and you will get thigh to waist high waves here today.  A patchwork of places breaking but with the tide coming in you can connect through the Snags to the very inside.  A contingent of about 12 in the water here now and more suiting up.

Daily Surf Report - 3/13/2014

Good morning and welcome to a wonderful Thursday in West Marin.  Wind has died down, sun is fully out and the temp is nicely in at 49F and will be warming quickly.  High pressure in the region so get ready for beach weather.  We do have a fairly solid NW swell in the water today with good size and a long interval.  Looks like a proper surf day today and the parking lot is nearly full.  Not the kind of quit your job or call in sick surf day but the nice day to get waves on a longboard kind of day with smooth ocean surface and decent waves to ride.  You'll also get some nice sun on your face as well so throw on the neoprene and skip down to the shoreline to find that perfect peak.

CHANNEL:  Smoothed out and spread out here today with scattered peaks up to waist high.  Not super organized but surfers up and riding at the inside Mali-Bo peak, Channel lefts and rights and across the way at Seadrift as well.  Longboards are the call as there are waves but not pumping.  Enough to get you riding and put a grin on your mug.  Remember - the Dude abides.

PATCH:  Here and there but breaking and rideable for the log and SUP aficionado.  Bring your big board here and get some rideable-glideable surf today.  Tide pushing in for another hour and plenty of water to let the swell in and keep the rocks covered.  Most of the usual suspects are on it so it must be good.  Size looks waist +/- but that looks good to me.

Good morning everyone we are having what one could best describe as an Alan Ginsberg morning....HOWL. Yes, the wind is howling off shore but as stated it's HOWLING and putting a chop on the water that even Bruce Lee would be impressed with. It's currently 62 degrees and the sun is up and gleaming it's high-gloss shine. A little bit of a bump in the water BUT it's being muscled out by this wind. The empty parking speaks volumes. Yep. It's White Cap Wednesday!

CHANNEL:  Waist high sections that this wind is janking up to no end. Maybe later? maybe tomorrow? I dunno. No one here probably because they were blown out to sea.

PATCH:  Ha! Same as above only way smaller.

Good morning to all of you bipedal amphibians of the deep. It's yet another glorious morning here at the beach. The sun is up with it's golden goodness as the temperature is sneaking in on the nippy side of 47 degrees. The birds are out singing in the key of Jules from Sea Of Bees and everything is just dandy. The surf has dissipated a bit more and isn't really doing a heck of a lot. It could be a good day for beginners, custodial equipment or a nice hike.  


CHANNEL:  Waist (at best) on the inside middle bar that is sectioning like the tuba section of a Midwestern high school marching band. Nothing really clean as of yet but that isn't stopping one janitor out there right now polishing that turd.

PATCH:  Like geese farts on a muggy day the Patch is even smaller today (below waist) when an actual wave breaks, that is. Waaaay inside a little, sorta' something is going, sorta', kinda' With a tide change later it could improve. One (1) log so far inside they could almost be back on the beach.

Good morning to all of you Mermaids & Mermen... or, would the PC terminology be; Merpeople? Nevertheless, it's a fine morning here at the beach as the sun is beaming it's high-watt gold toothed display and the birds are singing in the key of Diane Reeves in this 54 degree blissful environ. There are still some modest, watery undulations meandering through the brine, so take some time...sit back, relax and just dig yo'self. 


CHANNEL:  Waist (+/-) on the middle bar in the Channel. Humanoids are spread out far and wide from almost the boat ramp to waaaaay over (literally) at Sea Drift. Though wedges are coming through, it would seem they are sectioning more than the old Jim Crow laws. Maybe with the tide change it could clean up...maybe. Several out there now on logs mostly.

PATCH:  Once again, it's in the middle of the Clam Patch that is belching a super slow-poke right that sections for the predominate amount of the way from waist-to-below-waist. With this outgoing tide one must be mindful of the snaggle-toothed rocks that inhabit the inside, always diligent and at the ready to take a bite out of your board. Six (6) out there now... three (3) longboards, two (2) custodial hall buffers and one butt-ski.

Daily Surf Report - 3/9/2014

Good morning to all of you rascals and scallywags of the brine. It's an overcast morning here at the beach with the temp wiggling in at 55 degrees. Today's surf should probably be viewed somewhat like a swap meet/flea market/garage sale... there are deals to be had but one must be patient and pick through what is there to truly find the near mint copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (mono).


CHANNEL:  Waist (+/-) on the middle bar in the Channel and an occasional, cleaner left near the Groin Pole. The middle peak is about as organized as a ride on the 30 Stockton Avenue Muni during rush hour. However, the left can get a nice pinwheel green glide for the discerning rider. About ten (10) on various craft with several more in the parking lot ready to clog-it when they get out there to log-it.

PATCH:  The very middle of the Patch as well as the Snags are working today...somewhat. Just like it's cousin, The Channel one will have to sort of wait-and-see when a clean glide will come through. Unlike the crosstown cousin, half of these waves start but don't finish. Again, the discerning eye will help one with slide 'n glide realities. Twenty plus (20+) already out there and yes, more are on the way.

Daily Surf Report - 3/8/2014

Welcome to the weekend!  We have sunny skies and no wind with a morning temp of 52F.  Get ready for a nice bit of weather.  Diminishing swells fade away but still give up some rideable waves.  Think of it as leftovers for breakfast.  It was better the day before but still worth riding today.  Longboards are the call and there are plenty scattered about this morning.  Dropping tide pushes back to late morning so take advantage now and ride again later.  Perfect beach day.


CHANNEL:  A few lefts of the Groin and a few rights in the Channel.  Smooth when they show and size is waist high.  Not too organized so be prepared to wait for the better waves to arrive while catching a few sectioning ones in between.  Still best on a longboard today as the push is less and the tide is draining to low.  Smoothness at times and a beautiful morning to be in the water. 

PATCH:  If you have a 9.6 longboard then please bring it to the Patch to ride.  Lovely logging morning with softening peaks that will let you in then disappear or not.  Playing a bit of a game called "Wave or Not Wave" today.  The extra length on your board will help you get in and make sections.  Size is almost waist high a few will run all the way to the beach from way outside - most don't.  Inside at the Snags there are boils to avoid with the dropping water but rights that will wall up and reel to the sand.  Fast, fun and short but smooth and glassy this morning.  Get in and get some today then check it again as the tide fills in tonight.  Those with imbedded crystals in their boards will have the best results.
