Daily Surf Report - 5/13/2014

WE WILL BE CLOSING A TAD EARLY TONIGHT BUT WE WILL RE-OPEN TOMORROW MORNING AT 9AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
Keep your eyes open to your mercies. The man who forgets to be thankful has fallen asleep." - Robert Lewis Stevenson

Musings from the surf shop guy: To all of you "surfers" out there. If you're itching to come out to the beach and surf because it's sunny just like in all of the groovy surf movies but there isn't any surf, you should realize that by driving all the way here it isn't going to make the surf magically appear. There are a couple of things that actual surfers know and do. These days it's incredible with all of the technology available as you have countless, free websites to access that can assist to inform you if and what is happening at the beach. Some sites are pretty good at this (CDIP), others are not (Surfline). Another thing, know the spot! Know what kind of conditions work here and which don't. Swell directions, tides, storms, etc. Also, it NEVER hurts to follow the weather and their patterns...that's how we did it "way back in the old days,"(aka, before 2000). Lastly, don't come into the shop staring at the wax and asking how the surf is. You only have another 500+ steps to go to do an actual "surf check." Spend a minimum of ten (10) minutes looking at the water and seeing if anything is breaking, how often and where. Putting in the time makes you an even better surfer.

Daily Surf Report - 5/12/2014

WE WILL BE CLOSING A LITTLE EARLY TONIGHT, HOWEVER WE WILL RE-OPEN TOMORROW MORNING AT 9AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Good artists copy, great artists steal." - Pablo Picasso

Good morning to all of you children of the brine. It's another gorgeous morning here at the beach. The sun is up with a high-gloss shine as all of the birds are singing in the key of the Rascals tune, 'A Beautiful Morning.' That temperature is bouncing in at a deceptively cool 51 degrees but fear not, intrepid reader as it promises to heat up today to near 80 degrees... now, if only the waves would heat up as well. Almost dead flat here at Lake Bolinas today but maybe something will pop through for a visit later? we'll keep you posted if such a thing does occur.

CHANNEL:  Ankle high at best here this morning that even the sea lions are sleeping in and staying lagoon bound. No one here as of yet but it could change later.... or not.

PATCH:   Ankle high slow-pokes right over the very inside of the good 'ol Clam Patch and right over the good 'ol ding inducing rocks. Nothing to really surf upon, yet six (6) young lads were seen meandering down to the Patch with various craft from a shorty, to logs to even a couple of Costco foam-top specials, which I suppose they are hoping to make the best out of their journey here worthwhile by forcing something from the ocean which is non-existent at this point in time? Well, it's a beautiful day to say the least.

Daily Surf Report - 5/11/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” —Abraham Lincoln

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there! And a happy day it is out here at the beach. There's not a cloud in the sky, the birds are chirping, and the sun is shining it's radiant light down on the sand. So to all you children out there who are celebrating with your mother's, go clean the house and make them breakfast, then take them down to the beach to let their toes bury in the sand with an ice cold drink in their hand. This day comes and goes much to fast as I'm sure every mother would agree, so let them relax and enjoy the surf and sun. The air is at a crisp 60F and heating up with just a faint breeze. The water is cool and refreshing as spring hits us in full swing. With a small NW wind swell and even smaller south swell trying to make it's way here, there is only minimal surf, but a few small gems could be found by the log enthusiasts out there. So come on out and bring your mother! Enjoy the day and have no regrets!

CHANNEL:  Breaking but just barely in the ankle to knee range around the seadrift side. A handful of guys that are trying their best out there with a few SUPs showing off. The Groin is rolling in slowly, but may break more with the incoming tide. Paddle out and try your luck before the tide shift and you may find yourself riding in circles from the break to the beach and back again.

PATCH:   Breaking inside along the rocks in the ankle +/- range. The rights look rideable on the sets, but as of now there is only one man daring the exposed reef. May improve with a higher tide. Try it out if you dare or wait till the tide comes in a bit more and see if your fortune improves.

Daily Surf Report - 5/10/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“You have no cause for anything but gratitude and joy.” - Buddha

Do you like sunshiny mornings with the dew just starting to dry on the foliage, the hill fog burning off, foxes retreating to their den for peace and serenity, the sounds of chirping birds and nothing else and the promise of a beautiful day ahead?  Abandon your troubles and cares and make your way down to the water's edge.  Dive in to cleanse your soul and crystals in the watery brine from which all life began.  Be reborn and seek the highest peak today as you strive for greatness amongst the masses.  All of this and more is possible today.  A bit chill at 52F and light winds that will likely pick up later.  Water cooled off as it does with Spring winds so bring the booties if you are so inclined.  Still not a whole lot to surf but there is something for the longboard surfer today.  Just moderate NW wind-swell trying to work some magic.  Seek and you will find.  Enjoy what is given and don't ask WHY.

CHANNEL:  Small but breaking with the incoming tide inside the Groin pole at Mali-Bo.  That won't last past high tide so the clock is ticking here.  Short-short and sweet with knee high rights if you line one up.  Across at Seadrift there are some bars that have formed to give you a knee high grinder worth paddling over to.  Lose your mind and get on the conveyer belt to happiness.

PATCH:  Press repeat - again small and again mostly inside today.  A slightly different angle with surf size pushing knee high +/-.  Empty lineup but the rights look rideable on the biggest surf craft with fins you can haul down the beach.

Daily Surf Report - 5/9/2014

4:30pm - CLOSING EARLY.  WINDY.
WE WILL RE-OPEN TOMORROW AT 9AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The wind and the waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.” - Edward Gibbon

Streaky clouds but mostly sunshine.  No more drizzle but overall moist morning.  Winds are very light and ocean is glassing up.  Temp is 55F and it is a beautiful beach day this morning.  Still not much doing in terms of swell or waves.  Small NW wind-swell and very minor S swell not giving it up and producing the good stuff to ride.  Marginal at best with hope only on the horizon but expectations remain low.  Fear not as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and love is where you find it.  Crystallize your dreams and take what Mother Ocean offers and turn it into gold.

CHANNEL:  Small and nearly not breaking except inside the Groin pole at Mali-Bo.  Tide switch in 3 minutes will shut that down so pack a lunch and paddle across to Seadrift to find a wave.  Knee high and not too much more here today.

PATCH:  Again small and again mostly inside today.  A bit more on the Northern reaches of the Patch with surf size pushing knee high +/-.  Pop up peaks that disappear quickly.  May be rideable but lineup is currently empty.  1 SUP back from a 3 hour tour reports "small surf".  You heard it here first.

Daily Surf Report - 5/8/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Caminante, ho hay camino.  Se hace camino al andar." - Antonio Machado

No sun but misty hills above us.  Moderate flow of S winds and morning temp is 54F.  Hello Spring surf conditions.  Not much out there on the buoys and even less showing up in the water right now.  Tides are good but other factors not so cooperative.  Nice herd of barking seals about 100 yards off the beach.  They may have found some anchovies for breakfast and are noshing down.  Otherwise good day for hiking and walking and almost surfing very small waves.

CHANNEL:  Not much doing and even less to write about today.  Ankle high at best and nearly flat conditions.  Nothing to do the Wa-Wa-Tusi dance on that is for sure.  Pack a lunch and hike the hills. Clean your boards and patch your suits.  Surf will soon come.

PATCH:  Very small and in the calf high size spectrum.  Breaking only inside amongst the Snags.  Potentially and possibly rideable on the biggest of big surfboards.  My advice to you is to start paddling heavily.

Daily Surf Report - 5/7/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It's kind of fun to do the impossible." - Walt Disney

Good morning humans and welcome to the middle of another week in your life. It's another glorious morning here at the beach with the sun sporting the Ray-Bans but, with that 52 degree temperature the sun is also sporting the Patagonia nano-puff jacket to keep the chill off. A bit of a breeze out there putting so much texture on the water to the point that even Helen Keller could paddle out and tell you there isn't really any surf. The near empty parking lot speaks volumes. Maybe later with some slight variable changes.

CHANNEL:  No. That's the word for here today...no. Below knee white water clunkers lacking any shape at all that they make Rosie O'Donnell look like an SI swimsuit model. Again, maybe later in the day when the tide shifts....maybe. No one here....duh.

PATCH: This week on Border Wars! Bert & Ernie are back on their maritime paddle planks as they have more on their minds than just "mopping up the Patch!" You can tell that they mean business just by the war cries and threatening gestures they make with their 'war paddles' as they battle over below-knee-high slow-pokes on the Clam Patch/Green-Africa border. Who will win this epic battle to the death of unimaginable dorkiness and be crowned Janitor Of The the Patch? Stay tuned....
