Daily Surf Report - 12/17/2013

We will be closing a touch early tonight. We will re-open tomorrow morning at our usual time of 10AM

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much” - Jim Rohn

Good morning to all of you creatures of the deep! It's yet another spectacular morning here at the beach on this fine Tuesday 'morn! The temperature is doing the mambo at 59 degrees as the sun is in a full cumbia across the lower part of the sky! Baile! The surf is still knocking about here in town, so  what are you waiting for? My permission? Ha! Go get your dancing shoes on and get down, boggie, oogie, oogie!

CHANNEL: That middle bar is still supporting this swell better than a jock strap! The wave in question is mowing through at a waist to almost chest high right down the center of the plate, so you'd be able to spank a stand-up double right into the gap! There is also a very stiff off-shore breeze so keep that in mind during your take-off. HOWEVER, not many of them are clean. It's a section-y day to-be-sure, but there is a corner in which to glide upon and the patient and keen-eye surfer will be able to discern which is the winning lotto ticket.
About five (5) there now on logs and janitor gear hoping to win the Power Ball!

PATCH: There is indeed a waist high (+/-) wave there to slide upon but it's right smack dab in the middle-to-the-inside of the Clam Patch. The tide is coming in, so dings and losing your fin are at a minimum (We do have ding repair here at the shop...just sayin') but that tide is going to put on the WWF choke-hold pretty soon. Not to mention, but I will... that either the long paddle back to the ramp for a (hopefully) well timed exit, or the tedious long climb across walls and rocks due to the Ming Yao sized tide are going to be something to be aware of. So, use your noodle and be careful. About eight (8) logs out there mostly doing the straight off, Adolph routine.

We will be closing a little early tonight, however we will re-open tomorrow morning at our usual time of 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” - Hunter S. Thompson

Good morning to all of you children of the brine! Another glorious morning with the sun up, temperatures at a balmy 64 degrees and just about everyone and their grandmother in the H2O this day. The only two things that seem to be working today are the surf and yours truly. Loaded parking lot and I'm sure more than a few wave enthusiasts as well. Snap on the neoprene and glide, Clyde!

CHANNEL: The Mali-Bo bar is working as well as the left on the Groin Pole from waist to shoulder high. LOADS of craft of every description are out there now failing about. What are you waiting for? Be part of the "surf amoeba" and get out there and jam that break even more!

PATCH: Waist (+) at the Snags and inside. Only about four (4) logs out there seeming to be enjoying the solitude of sliding an emerald gem.

Daily Surf Report - 12/15/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“If you want to live a truly passionate life you must embrace both good and evil, then choose one to hold nearest your heart.” - anonymous.

Icy wonderlands coating the whole world today and all the Christmas carolers are ready with coffee in hand. The most beautiful thing about this time of year is not what is bought and wrapped underneath a dead tree, but rather the feelings brought up by the crystal in your heart. There is no time to be selfish, no time to be unaware and under stress. This life is something to be experienced and shared. Bring what you can to the table and start the feast. I'm not the only one imagining. Surf looks shred-able shareable and with an air temp of 45*f its feeling like a warm bath and foot massage from a Swedish masseuse.

CHANNEL: Backhand to the sand if your ridding with your left forward. You know what I'm talking about. DO you pick up what I'm putting down? I'm seeing chest high sets if your about 5'9 and some reeling knee high rippers for some cross stepping power. Bring a fast board and enter the void. Let go and go forth. Glassy as can be.

PATCH: High tide makes some salty rides. Knee to waist high plus for the average human body and Joe, Fred, and Kevan are throwing shakas and stretch fives all over this place. Get on it and find that sweet spot on your stick that makes these longboard-able rhythmic energy waves come alive. Watch your step at the low tide, may not be as choice here. Good times come to us now.

Daily Surf Report - 12/14/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“All human wisdom is summed up in two words; wait and hope.” - Alexandre Dumas

Creative morning with foraging foxes about.  If you know their language you can having a fulfilling communique.  Owls and bats hunting for breakfast as we all know it is the most important meal of the day.  Throw in a black cat for good luck and the day is off to a roaring start.  There is a whole world out there with lots going on in the early hour moonlight.  Currently clear blue skies and sunshine.  Very calm and still with a temp of 41F.  Expect warmth today with temps reaching into the 60s as high pressure is in play.  W/NW swell started building last night and a little S swell in the background.  Size is not big but direction and shape look promising.  Tide is very high and peaking currently which has it soft and shut down.  Plenty of beach dumpers and ramp thumpers now that are not good for the bare feet as they carry toe smashing rocks.  Bumps are out there but not perfectly rideable yet with just too much water now. Outgoing should improve things and give you something your longboard will agree with.  It is a magically beautiful day and Santa will be downtown around 2pm so bring your lists.

CHANNEL: Water and waves up the boat ramp that have scattered the wall watchers and fishermen alike.  Run for cover unless you want to have wet clothing.  If you are wearing neoprene than dive in as the water is fine and still feels warm even if the air and ground isn't. Tide has just reached maximum density and peaked.  Too high to allow for much real surfing currently but the outgoing could improve the shape as there are rollers out there that just need to find the bottom and break.  Wave size is relative but mostly thigh high at the moment.  I yearn for more and it may be out there for the taking.

PATCH: A few almost waves with hints and whispers of potential.  The S swell is small and the tide is large so not the best love connection being made today.  Let the tide drop and maybe it will turn on for the log enthusiast.

Daily Surf Report - 12/13/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential.” - Black Elk - Lakota Chief

Friday the 13th but fear not as the day is sunny, clear and crisp with red, white and blue skies.  Temp down to 41F and still a frosty morning but high pressure returns to the Bay Area today along with E winds and another warming trend through the weekend.  Expect dry, clear weather with temps into the 60s.  Still waiting for the W/NW swell to arrive as a little S will blend into the background.  Good conditions on the horizon but currently still very small and higher tides keeping things shut down.  Keep fingers crossed and burn some purple sage today as the surf is coming - just like Christmas.

CHANNEL: Tide has peaked and will start to drain out the lagoon shortly.  Mind the rip unless you want a one-way ticket to visit Stinson.  Currently very small with just an occasional inside Channel roller that is knee high if it breaks.  Next swell on the way is good for this spot but it is not here yet and the high tide is keeping it all on the down low.  It is a beautiful morning and will remain that way through the day.  Hoping for more soon but less is what we currently have.

PATCH: Outgoing waves off the wall and from shore looking like the best bet here currently.  Very flat yet I spy a janitor that is both prone and upright and in the water as well making the most of a gorgeous morning.  It is not always the quantity of waves but the quality that is important and 1 good wave will make today an outright success.

Daily Surf Report - 12/12/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.” - Hamilton Wright Mabie

I sense thawing and a warming trend in my bones and bare legs.  Again it is sunny but temps are already up to 45F and the lowest in the valleys was 29F so things are moving in a positive direction especially for the no pants crew.  I also detect a building WNW swell that should arrive on Friday and hold through the weekend.  Clear and sunny skies are in play for the foreseeable future so surf may be inevitable shortly.  As for today it is Lake Bolinas with high swamped out tide and no waves to ride.  There are still endless possibilities out there if your eyes and mind are open to change.  Let nature be your guide today but leave the surfboard at home.

CHANNEL: Tide has peaked and will drain out for the next 5 hours.  Would be good conditions if there was any swell - which there isn't.  Very flat and no one out - not even a SUP today.  Swimming and fishing should move up on your "things to do" list as surfing is not currently possible.  Stay tuned for updates of a significant nature as a new WNW swell is on the way.

PATCH: Flat and more flat here.  Beautiful and serene but not for surfing. Sorry we cannot improve conditions.

Daily Surf report - 12/11/2013

We will be closing early today. We will re-open tomorrow at our usual time of 10AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good morning everyone and happy middle of the week. Yes, it is still a bit on the chilly, chill, chill side of the thermometer at a brisk 44 degrees but things are warming up a smidgen and as far as I'm concerned, that is muy bueno. The sun is out and slinking closer to the horizon and there is more than a bit of an off-shore-to-side-shore wind ruffling the waters feathers. As for surf.... gee, after watching both spots for exactly 22 minutes while sipping my coffee and listening to Miles Davis it is one of the rare mornings where nothing, and I mean NOTHING resembling a wave came through. Hey, it's a clear day and a SUP tour could be in your near future. Any changes that may arise today I'll be sure to report them right here.

CHANNEL: Draining lagoon, not a wave to be seen and the Pelican just moseying on through on his Janitor special doing his morning exercise paddle.

PATCH: Choppy, sloppy and not much else. Sorry.

NEWS: Today in Brazil the very last Volkswagen Van will roll of the assembly line and will be discontinued. Surfers the world over hang their collective heads and weep.

RIP Steve "Steve-O" McAlpin - who passed away Monday after a fire destroyed his home.  Long-time Bodega Bay resident and Sonoma County surfer.  Steve loved Bolinas and especially the Patch.  He will be missed by everyone.
