Daily Surf Report - 2/5/2012

Surf's up.
It's a beuatiful sunny day out here. Winds are out of the East, the parking lot is full, just like the tide, and waves are crashing and swirling like the primordial soup of our predecessors...

Channel: Waves everywhere, over at Seadrift, the middle of the channel, off the groin and even on bits of the beach. About waist to shoulder/chest high, with a sideshore breeze. Looks like plenty of waves, a little swampy with the high tide, but to be entirely accurate, I stopped counting how many surfers were in the water when I hit 40, so it is packed. Awareness, know you're surroundings and be respectful in the water, catch some sweet sliders and have fun.

Patch: Only two surfers out at this spot, and not much for waves, saw a couple knee, maybe waist high rollers, tide is high, so maybe as it turns we will hopefully see some improvement.

New batch of Sk8 Plane handplanes are in the shop. Each one has individual pyrographic Haida wood burning images. Functional art that are locally hand-crafted by 2-Mile's, employee of the month, Blair Tom, and you can check out his work at www.walterblairtom.com. Come check them out. You wont find a better way to get closer to the wave curl and you will have a blast in the water.

Daily Surf Report - 2/4/2012

Mixed energy and new swell.
Buoys showing 12' @ 13 secs this morning. Surf a bit directionally and tidally challenged but a definite bump up in size and juice.

Sunny, blue skies again and a current temp of 51F this morning. Moderate off-shore wind putting a nice back spray off the back of the waves.

Channel: Both deeper bars producing rideable surf. Consistently waist high with a few chest high sets mixed in. Longboards doing best due to paddling ability with incoming tide and off shore winds. Short boards sitting on the inner Groin bar catching waves as well. Some bowly-bowly sections, some long walls to turn on. Mixed bag of surf for everyone today. Tide switch should make things interesting later.

Patch: Not really feeling it with this swell. Slim pickings again with scattered waves in the thigh high range. Lots of water but not much swell showing. About 3 - 4 surfers out on logs. Bring something big and catch the inside waves which have some better shape.

Daily Surf Report - 2/3/2012

RIP Don Cornelius
1936 - 2012
Peace, Love and Soooul!

Sunny, blue skies again with current temp of 47F to start the day. Light side shore wind putting a bit of texture on the water but not too bad. Small long period swell moving in today and should bring a bit of sure to us.

Channel: Still a bit bumpy out there and tide recently peaked. Slight direction change has waves breaking right into the Channel a bit more today. Surf in the waist high range. About 8 - 10 in the water on longboards and SUPs. Afternoon goodness as tide fills in.

Patch: Slim pickings so far with scattered waves in the thigh high range. Lots of water but not much swell showing. A couple of surfers out on logs. Bring something big and catch the inside waves.

Daily Surf Report - 2/2/2012

Groundhog Day 2012:
Punxsutawney Phil sees shadow, 6 more weeks of winter predicted.
At 7:25 a.m. this morning, amidst mostly cloudy skies, and temperatures in the low 30s, Groundhog Phil saw his shadow in the little town of Punxsutawney, Pa.

According to folklore, Phil’s sighting of his own shadow means there will be six more weeks of winter. Had Phil not seen his shadow, it would have meant “there will be an early spring.”

We have clear and sunny skies with temps in the low 40s to start the day. Our winter has been clear and dry and the surf has been very good so I can live with Phil's prediction.

Channel: Cleaned up from yesterday's bit of weather. Surf in the waist high + size. Seadrift looks a little cleaner and better if you want to paddle across and get some rights. About 8 in the water.

Patch: Good tide and has come up in size. Thigh to waist high pop up peaks that look best mid-way and inside. Couple of longboards and SUPs over here already.

Daily Surf Report - 2/1/2012

The last and shortest surf month of winter, February is now upon us.
And geeze is it mixed up out there? In kinda a good way.

The Channel is a challenging chest high, with onshore sections making it fast and tricky, this is made do~able through the minimal crowd.

The patch is a little more protected, and surprisingly crowded, only about knee high here.

Did I mention it is raining?

Channel: Chest high, storm surf conditions. goofy footers on quad fins might be punting?

Patch: Ankle, inside low tide still showing.

A little historical Bolinas photo from back in the day. Looks like the Channel was breaking.

Daily Surf Report - 1/31/2012

A crowded beach in Nor Cal is a total shame.
What else are you up here for if it is not for fierce desolation?
Well, that's what we have folks. Call it "Soft Desolation" with a full stock of rentals and a liquor store out front.

Come out and remember how to cross stepp in the Channel today.
It's about waist high, peeling clean, and the Patch might pick up later.

If your board is under 9 ft, you will wish it wasn't.
Clean, 53 degrees, sun peeping already, light wind?

Channel: Waist high, middle bar, kinda mushy.

Patch: Ankle, inside low tide still showing.

Daily Surf Report - 1/30/2012

Ok,
Straight out. There are tiny little waves peeling nicely in goodish conditions. It's about 50 degrees, no wind, slight overcast, and there is no one out surfing at the moment. The shape is good enough to pump a shortboard even though it is only waist high at the channel, looks like it is peeling clean and nice for a longboard.

Channel: Clean little lefts, at the middle of the channel, about waist high. One could force a shortboard, or a longboard would be fun and easy.

Patch: Ankle high and peeling in one spot, not surfable currently, but could be later.

Only days left in Our Customer Appreciation sale which goes till the end of the month - 25% off everything in the store, surfboards are 10 % off. All the details HERE.
