Daily Surf Report - 6/7/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“You bring out the best in yourself by looking for the best in others.” - Gene Bedley

Slow for foxes!  Spring pups are out frolicking and it is their world not ours to inhabit.  Slow it down and soak it in.  Look around and absorb the natural beauty that surrounds.  Shut your eyes and mouth and listen to the sounds of nature.  Show your appreciation every day.  Coastal cloudiness and beach overcast that is expected to burn off and give way to a CRYSTAL clear day full of promise and magic. Temp is in at 55F and again some morning S winds.  These have been slacking off throughout the day and glassing in the evening.  Yewwww.  NW windswell up a few ticks and small S swell holding steady.  Mostly humble morning conditions for surfing but there is hope in the water and in my meager heart.  Fairly typical regional Spring conditions but possible combo waves later in the day with less wind as water levels remain good.

CHANNEL:  Taking in the NW windswell a bit but still mumbled and jumbled surf.  Lightly textured ocean surface with a few rollers breaking in the thigh high size range.  Still a pieces and parts kind of day with waves that break an crumble in both directions.  You can get a longboard moving today and if the weather clears early and the wind dies off and the swell picks up I would naturally expect this spot to fire.  For now and empty lineup but the weekender crew are getting suits on and heading over.

PATCH:  Small and somewhat reasonable to look at, stare out, hope about and imagine the waves that could and will be - but not right now.  A bit textured with the S wind and occasional small waves in the ankle to knee realm.  Evening glass off conditions last nite but for now NO.  Try wait.

Daily Surf Report - 6/6/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“What is defeat? Nothing but education; nothing but the first step to something better.” - Wendell Phillips

Magically misty and overcast morning.  S winds and chopped ocean.  Temp slinks in at 55F.  Can you dig it?  I know the calendar says June but early Spring conditions prevail right now.  Generally dismal conditions today but remain optimistic and keep the clear crystal vibes flowing towards positivity.  Close your eyes and listen to birds chirp and the calmness that prevails in the air.  Each day has beauty if you look closely.  That being said just NW windswell and very weak S swell in the water and the winds are not favorable.  Tides are good and if a big change happens you will have plenty of water covering the bottom and waves will magically start marching in but for now small and sloppy.

CHANNEL:  Pieces and parts of surf and the mid-Channel bars are picking it up a bit.  Not shapely or sizeable but enough to get you on your feet and maybe surf it a bit.  Knee to thigh high and grumpy waves that want less wind and more swell.  For now this is the spot with the most potential and while the lineup remains empty I know there will be takers soon.  A clearing weather trend is coming and the winds may die off later today.  Get it or not but today may be the day to find that new summer longboard in our racks.

PATCH:  Slappy and droopy with nothing surf related to discuss.  The fishermen have moved in this direction and that is somewhat noteworthy.  There is plenty of sand moved back on the beach here.  There are no waves currently here except for the one double over barnacle grinder I saw earlier.

Daily Surf Report - 6/5/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” - Marie Curie

June gloom but don't swoon.  Still got the morning overcasty conditions and moderate temp at 55F.  Fog usually keeps the winds down and they are not blowing this morning.  Still not any real swell in the water to speak of but we will take improvements in small doses and relish them in all their crystal glory.  Surf for the desperadoes today but there is always tomorrow.

CHANNEL:  Gurgling and burping along mini rollers in the Channel proper.  Not sure if they are surfable as the lineup is rightfully empty.  Looks thigh high and janky with not much shape or length to the potential ride.  Not windy though and that is a bonus.  Good day to shop for a a board as we filled the rack yesterday.

PATCH:  Yes to fishing.  No to surfing.  Maybe for canoes, kayaks and touring SUPs as well.  Flat conditions with a dropping tide.  Check back tomorrow.

Daily Surf Report - 6/4/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"The best way out is always through." - Robert Frost

Good morning to all of you enthusiasts of salt water realities! It's another gloomy morning here at the beach with the temperature hobbling in at 52 degrees and that stiff, on-shore breeze still billowing away. Hey, it's springtime and this is a typical springtime morning here. If anything positive should transpire concerning hydrodynamic shenanigans today I will most certainly post it right here where your eyeballs are currently glued...if not, I won't.

CHANNEL:  Latte froth and crummy "janksterosa" conditions here this morning. The tide is shipping out to sea and the sand bars are coming out for a little bit of morning yoga. This isn't stopping one individual with questionable judgement skills and a short board (!) from sitting in cold water and every-so-often taking gas for their efforts. Hm.

PATCH:  Nope.

Daily Surf Report - 6/3/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up." - Muhammed Ali

"Dogged Morning" a one act play by Hoskin Firth

The scene: Cold, windy gray morning on the coast just North of San Francisco. Two raccoon's, Bob and Raymond are sipping coffee and gazing out into the gray abyss.

Bob: It feels colder than 53 degrees.

Raymond: Yep. Colder than a well diggers bee-hind, that's for sure. It's the wind... plus no sun.

Bob: Hey, what was the deal with that dog that was giving you lip this morning? What's his name...?

Raymond: Skippy. Yeah, that jerk has some serious problems, lemme tell ya. He's lucky I didn't go off on him. I think he's a little...I dunno...mentally handicapped.

Bob: Aw, he'll get his soon enough. What do ya expect from a creature that licks his genitals, chases his tail and lets a humanoid control him?

Raymond: Yeah, you're right. Poor bastard.

After a long pause.

Bob: Welp. Let's get going. Those garbage cans aren't going to get tipped over by themselves.

The End

CHANNEL:  Crumbling in the ankle-to-shin catagory this morning it's basically just more of the same. Gray, cold and windy..... but hey, how about those Giants?!

PATCH:  If wishes were fishes the ocean would be full. Nope. Not even happening right now. Empty parking lot = empty heart. :(

Daily Surf Report - 6/2/2014

WE WILL BE CLOSING EARLY TONIGHT BUT WILL RE-OPEN TOMORROW AT OUR USUAL TIME OF 9AM.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Common sense is not so common." - Voltaire

Good morning all of you purveyors of vehicles in the aquatic realm. It's the start of another week and month! It's June and that means that all of you little groms are being released from the doldrums of mandatory state education and will spill upon the glistening shores of the Pacific. However, today pains me...yes, it does. We have that terrible combination of variables that no self-respecting plank spanker likes to hear. There is an increasing on-shore wind, the tide is still going out to negative numbers and finally, there is little if any swell. Bummer, to be sure. If nature changes for the better I'll be sure to throw the 411 down right here on this very spot.

CHANNEL:  Below knee slurping gurglers are lapping along the severally exposed sand bars making this spot, along with the on-shore wind the ultimate spot for perhaps fishing. I know there are perch to be caught out here. One (1) person at the Groin Pole paddling and missing not only the miniscule crumbling wedge but the "point" as well.

PATCH:  And now for the 2-Mile Surf Shop "Math-lete" problem of the day; Negative low tide + on-shore wind + lack of an actual swell =
(the first "Math-lete" to guess this right wins a genuine 2-Mile 'Shaka.')

Daily Surf Report - 6/1/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition" - William Arthur Ward

Overcast and foggy here again as the winds prevail lightly through this morning. Makes for a great shot out of Hitchcock film or just a good morning to read a book by the window and listen to the leaves rustle. The air is nice and crisp at a cool 49F with slight condensation hitting the windshield of those daring to drive out here this morning. With the south swell all but gone and the NW windswell staying active, there is a slight texture on the surface and not much to be said about the waves. That being said, a higher tide late this afternoon may improve the conditions. But for now, it's a good day to just be happy and joyous as the school year comes to a close and many graduate to move on and do bigger and better things.

CHANNEL:  There's a duo out in the line-up this morning sharing all that lake bolinas has to offer. All of the sandbars are exposed as the tide is just about to reach peak low making for small ankle slapping surf. The middle groin seems to be the only rideable spot down on this end of the beach with seadrift starting to shape up, favoring the NW windswell. Take on the day like a spartan and make a stand!... or flop.

PATCH:  As the tide is bottoming out all of the rocks to the way outside are exposed, and yet a handful of daring young men and women are making their way out. Small barely ankle high waves are rolling through and dying off as quick as they appeared. Once again, with the tide coming in during the late morning and afternoon, this spot  may shape up a bit more. So come on out and play in the water, explore the crustaceans in the rocks, or try finding a new hiking trail this morning. The surf can only improve throughout the day right?
