Daily Surf Report - 1/7/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Losers live in the past. Winners learn from the past and enjoy working in the present toward the future." - Denis Waitley

Greetings earthlings to another wonderful day on your planet. It's a bit overcast here today with the sun attempting to punch through like a Danny 'Little Red' Lopez/Salvador Sanchez bout (look it up. They were awesome!). Though it's nothing like the Midwest/East Coast weather currently beating those regions down as if they owe money, the temperature is oozing in at a somewhat chilly 48 degrees. There really isn't much of a wind, per se and the ocean is attempting to toss out a teeny curly-cue here and there but nothing to really report on that as of yet. The empty parking lot speaks volumes. As always, if it happens, we'll report it right here... if not, we won't.

CHANNEL: Barely an under knee high specimen of salty juice rolling outside of the Groin Pole. If you have an SUP or an aircraft carrier (the difference between the two? One carries planes... the other could) maybe you can float along for about 20/30 yards. No one here... as if I had to tell you.

PATCH: Also attempting to sound off with the (very) occasional under-knee right on the inside of the Clam Patch. Rocks are beginning to snarl with gleaming teeth showing. We do have ding repair. No one here either.

Daily Surf Report - 1/6/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe." - Dalai Lama

Good morning everyone and welcome to the beginning of week two (2) of 2014! It's a brisk morning here at the beach with patchy, overcast skies as the temperature is looping in at 55 degrees along with a slight off-shore wind. The surf conditions are about the same as yesterday. Crap. Albeit, there is something trying to rear it's watery head but apparently that something isn't quite cutting the mustard as of yet. Even the regulars (and irregulars) of the Dawn Patrol Breakfast Club have stood on the sea wall for a long, measured time and have come to the disappointing conclusion, as they cast eyes downward and kick at the ground with disgust that today is not a water day. Maybe later? Maybe tomorrow? Heck, I dunno. If a change occurs I'll be sure to throw down the 411 right here. If not, I won't.

CHANNEL: Another skunk day as it stinks to high heaven (surf-wise) in Le Channel. Below knee chop-slop is trying to bust through but it's like the current political system... it's not really working. No one here for obvious reasons.

PATCH: Rocks + near flatness =...you at work today. As always, the ocean is ever changing and if this change should miraculously occur today I'll personally note it here on this blog. Until then... don't only pray for surf, pray for rain. No one here either.

Daily Surf Report - 1/5/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” - Albert Einstein

Happy Sunday to all of you enthusiasts of liquid salt realities! It is certainly a beautiful morning here at the beach with the sun making a low-on-the-horizon appearance and the temperature scooting in at a palatable 49 degrees. The surf, however is not quite as promising as this clear weather. On-shore winds with nearly flat conditions are making this day either an SUP tour day, or an NFL play-off day, with the remote in one hand and a cold ale in the other. It's your choice and Go Niners!

CHANNEL: Whatever the swell was here yesterday has obviously vacated the premises and is probably home still in bed. The Channel is pretty much a rippling mess with nothing to really ride as it all is well under ankle high and janky. If it changes later I'll post it right here. If not, I won't. Two (2) custodial boards are trying to clean up between there and the ramp.

PATCH: It's almost flat. It's pretty windy (on-shore...read above). and an almost ankle high slurper is trying to break across the (way) inside on the rocks. Any change through the day and... blah, blah, blah you know the drill.

Daily Surf Report - 1/4/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The greatest power is often simple patience.” - E. Joseph Cossman

NOON UPDATE: Full sunshine and surf continues to remain clean and rideable for longboards.

Pre-optical, non-tropical, sub-human surf day.  Fear not as the fog is in and the deadly sun will not burn your pale white skin or blind your eyes.  Grab your 2 best friends and crawl out from under your rock.  Strap on the neoprene and paddle into the dark unknown.  Let the magnetic pull of the waves be your guide or better yet navigate via crystal power.  Overcast with heavy fog, no wind and 44F.  Hints and whispers of sun starting to show so head back to your cave if need be.  The ocean is glassy and there is new swell in the water.  A little steep for Bolinas but a few smooth ones are filtering in.  Tide is now on the rise so get on it as it is rideable and fun for the living and undead.

CHANNEL:  New swell from the N but a bit on the steeper size.  Now that the tide has switched it seems to be cleaning up nicely.  Waist high and glassy peelers and reelers today and you can go left in the Channel or right at Seadrift.  Super foggy with low vis but you can feel the pulse and surf by braile as required.  Still need lots of foam so bring a long board and you will have success.  Some have good shape and hold up for long rides.  All have enough juice to wake you up and stoke your surf desires.

PATCH: Still on the flat side with just a few small rights in the knee high + range.  A few SUPs testing things out and may improve later today with more water and a filling in swell.

Daily Surf Report - 1/3/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Day 3 of 2014 and maybe the nicest day of the year - so far.  Crisp and cool but sunny and clear morning.  Very light offshore winds just kissing the tops of waves.  Sunrise over the Marin hills was fiery and fierce.  Temp now is 44F - later it will be more and possibly into the 60s.  It is a beach day in full force.  Tides still climbing high and swinging low for a few more days so surf conditions and beach access will vary greatly throughout the day.  Point your crystal to the West and let the magic be your guide today.

CHANNEL:  Out with the old NW swell but stay tuned as a new one will start to fill in later today.  Tide is medium now and still filling in.  Will be fat and full at noon to shut things down.  A few fun rights happening over at Seadrift with pop up peaks in the waist to almost chest high size that give false hopes and fun rides.  Channel lefts holding up a bit cleaner today and size ranges from thigh to just below waist.  Big longboards are just the ticket and the 8 in the water all have smiles and sunshine on their faces this morning.  If you are not working stop by the beach and ride a few waves to start the new year off on a good note.

PATCH: Flat with occasional non-breaking bumps.  Incoming tide will keep it quiet until the next dose of swell kicks in.  Paddleboards and kayaks rejoice as the water is calm and smooth.  Emptiness prevails in the lineup.

Daily Surf Report - 1/2/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“What we do today, right now, will have an accumulated effect on all our tomorrows.” - Alexandra Stoddard

Welcome to the New Year 2014.  I believe it is the Year of the Crystal!  Resolve to resolve.  New beginnings and new beliefs.  Recognize the beauty and guidance crystals can provide and give yourself over to the spiritual realities it creates.  We start like we ended with clear and sunny skies, cool mornings that warm as the day goes on.  Currently 47F and a kiss of offshore wind.  Easing back WNW swell today but more is on the way.  King Tides still rising and will hit 7.0' today.  Then it will suck out and drain like the CA economy so pick and choose wisely as timing is everything in life. Fairly full of water and almost swamped out now but enough energy left to get big boards moving as the sandbars are set.

CHANNEL:  Full tide - Fat tide and still coming in for another 2 hours.  Still giving up some rollers that are rideable and thigh hit.  Pull out the biggest log you have and you will enjoy glide-able waves.  Middle bar in into Mali-Bo working on the incoming and though they are small the rights are smooth and have a bit of shape today.  Seadrift still has some leftover rights as well but will work better later when the tides turns.  Still a gorgeous day to be at the beach and not at works so strap on some neoprene and get wet.  3 in the water and more suiting up.

PATCH: Just occasional rollers today as swell has dropped and tide is still peaking.  Nearly shut down and will stay that way for a few hours as tide levels don't start to recede until around 1 pm.  Empty lineup at this time but kayaks and touring SUPs will score.

Daily Surf Report - 1/1/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp on life." -Hugh Sidey

Good morning and a Happy New Year to all of you purveyors of hydrodynamic realities! It's a gorgeous morning here at the beach as the sun is up, albeit with a low-wattage, slightly hung-over smile laying low upon the horizon making the temperature tip-toe in at a sobering 40 degrees. There is still some big lumps coming through town this morning making the first day of the new year surf-friendly. However, again there is a huge, Shaq sized tide coming in, so PLEASE keep your eyes open, your head on a swivel and use the good judgment I know you possess when negotiating the boat ramp/sea walls for entry and exits. So, snap-on the heaviest rubber you have and glide, glide, glide.

CHANNEL: Even with this higher than Jeff Spacolli tide it's still in the waist to very occasional (set wave) shoulder high sets spitting through the Middle bar and inside Mali-Bo bar. Not super clean as they can and do section but it's all Windex glass. Better on the Sea Drift side yet the lemmings are all hunkered smack dab in the middle to the Groin Pole. Go figure. All logs this morning making it a Lumber jack fest.... maybe a pancake breakfast awaits afterword?

PATCH: Even with this Fat Albert high tide there is a waist + roller that comes through the middle of the Clam Patch and then it peter's out before kissing the rocks on the beach. As we have all learned here at The Patch-101, once the high tide reaches maximum density this place will shut down faster than an impromptu rave at a salt lake City Mormon temple parking lot. Get it now or wait until the tide changes later today. It's your call, amigo. Three (3) longboards there now.
