Daily Surf Report - 7/31/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
"Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

This PSA brought to you today by The Ocean:
Please do not take all the beach sand on your wetsuits, booties and surfboards.  The shop does not want it.  The storm drains do not want it.  The streets do not want it, but the ocean does.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Low and thick fog and moistness morning.  Spritzing drizzle but not rain.  Calm and peaceful morning with a few puffs of wind from the S.  Temp is 60F and sun will not be available until the mid afternoon.  Snarf your vitamin D tablets orally for best results.  Minor uptick in steep angle S swell but Patch water levels are low at this time.  Try wait until the afternoon to see if it materializes into rideable surf.  There are still some small nuggets out there to ride and it will be Surf Camp Delight shortly.  Incoming tide will help especially if the winds stay calm.

CHANNEL: Middle Groin bar displaying knee high and better waves this morning that should improve in shape as the tide fills in later this morning.  Now a bit chopped but still rideable sections for longboard glory.  Deeper Channel bar working about the same effectiveness and keep your eye on Mali-Bo as the tide fills in.  Sand has moved about and ripping here can be accomplished under the proper conditions.

PATCH:  Very small waves and the low tide is the reason.  Steep angle S swell in play but a bit more water is needed.  Wait for the turnaround which is happening shortly and see if this spot doesn't tickle your fancy then.  Now under knee high ship-stern crunchers that have minor appeal.

The world is calm and serene this morning as once again the fog sits low and extends as far as the eye can see. Temperatures are at 59F and bound to stay there through the morning until the fog burns off later in the afternoon. The wind is nonexistent thanks to the fog and the swell has picked up slightly. Regardless of the low tide, there are a few knee high peaks coming through. Expect that to pick up later in the day as the tide fills in as well. Overall it should shape up to be a nice day with fun surf that is perfect for beginners.

CHANNEL: Glassy this morning as some knee high lefts are breaking in the middle groin. Nine dawn patrolers are out trying their luck at these little gliders. With the incoming tide through the afternoon, the waves should pick up and get better.

PATCH:  Small waves are once again rolling and rolling all the way to the shore and have the potential to be some fun knee high waves... if they ever broke. Wait for the tide to see any improvement.

It's another overcast morning as the clouds are sitting low and pockets of fog are scattered throughout the area. Yet it is still a beautiful morning as the ocean is clear and glassy and all manor of wildlife are out and about doing their thing. Air temps are at 60F and the wind is nonexistent as we kick off the day. Today would be a wonderful day for a hike as the sun will hopefully break through later today as it did yesterday in the afternoon. Why a hike you ask? Well there is little to no swell still and the wind will most likely pick up later today as it did yesterday. But that isn't to say there is no fun to be had, so come out and spend some time in the sand and relax.

CHANNEL:  Glassy this morning as little ankle biters break on the exposed sand bars. Middle groin and seadrift will be the better peaks later today. No one is out and nothing very rideable is available as of now. The tide will have to come in before I suggest going out.

PATCH:  Little waves in the knee high range are rolling and rolling and rolling in some more, but never quite breaking until they reach the dry and exposed rocks and the shore. No one is out here, but it is possible that these knee high sliders will be rideable later today with the incoming tide.

Please do not take all the beach sand on your wetsuits, booties and surfboards.  The shop does not want it.  The storm drains do not want it.  The streets do not want it, but the ocean does.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The fog is dense and laying low over these empty streets this morning as it appears as if another monsoon may roll through sometime this week. Air Temps are at 56F and will likely stay around there today if this fog decides to stay. As for the surf, it is looking just as poor as this weather. Though it is glassy with only the faintest of breezes, there is zero swell. Granted the tide is extremely low and not helping with the production of waves. Once the tide comes in later today, there may be some improvement. Though don't expect anything very much bigger than a micro ankle slider.

CHANNEL:   Fairly glassy as the sandbars are exposed and the pelicans and seagulls reign over their little channel islands. Nothing much is breaking here except for some whitewater shorebreak that is crashing down onto the dry bars. With a tide shift, some actual waves may form later today. The key for today would be to wait.

PATCH: Completely flat with all the rocks exposed. Not even the birds dawn this spot this morning. Maybe with the tide it will improve, though with very little swell in the water, don't expect too much. Maybe just have fun playing in the sand or exploring the cliff side today

Another beautiful morning here in Bolinas as the fog is light and already starting to burn off and the temps are nice and cool at 61F. Expect it to heat up and for the sun to shine as the day gets underway. Perfect day to bring the family and play on the beach and escape the unbearable inland heat. As for the surf, it is small and inconsistent as there is very little swell in the water. Tide is extremely low right now which isn't helping, but expect for some slightly better surf later today with a higher tide. That being said, it is the perfect day for all you beginners out there are is it is mellow and rideable. Come out and see what's in store for all you weekend warriors.

CHANNEL:  Slight texture reminiscent of last evenings breeze this morning. Tide is low and the bars are exposed, yet some small knee high peelers are standing up and rolling through in the middle and over to the seadrift side. Tide is incoming till later this afternoon and should improve the wave conditions and size. Not a soul in sight.... yet.

PATCH: Tiny waves in the ankle range are breaking on the inside where it is extremely shallow and riddled with scattered rocks. But there are a few logs out catching some non-breaking waves that are just steep enough to get them moving just next to the meeting rock. More water is needed here before those waves really start to break. Might be a good morning to explore the tide pools within the rocks.

Sunny, beautiful and expected hot temps.  Great day for the shovel and pail crew to hit the beach and build some castles.  Temp in at 60F and just a few light breaths of winds for texture purposes.  Mind surfing is supreme today as swell remains small to non-existent.  Just windswell and low tide this morning.  Afternoon and evening fuller tides have had a bit more to ride but still in the micro-slider realm of possibilities.  Chill at the beach for the day and expect the UN-expected today.

CHANNEL:   Calf to knee high reelers and dealers this morning as the swell remains weak and the water is low.  Incoming tide will give a little bit more push.  Choppy now with a touch of wind and tide pushing back.  Evening glass off may be worth a look.   A few weekend warriors on it but not EPIC conditions.

PATCH:  Pelicans have gone but rocks remain evident.  Still nearly flat with occasional blips of S swell activity but very infrequently.  Great day for paddling or swimming but not so much for surfing right now.  More water may equal more fun.

Chill and chipper morning with the high pressure system settling in for the weekend.  Sunny skies and no wind.  Air temp checking in at 57F with mid 80s expected.  A day of endless possibilities so rise to the occasion and seek levels above 1.  Find the true purpose within yourself and let the world know.  Just NW windswell today as the S swell dies off.  Also, early morning low tide filling in and starting to get things covered up.  All vampire sea creatures seeking refuge under the watery blankets now.  Small surf and not much of it but the day is beautiful and long and you never know what surprises may be in store later.

CHANNEL:   Knee high grinders and shin burners galore this morning as the swell is weak and the water is low.  Incoming tide will give a little bit more push.  The windswell is actually up a bit so more water could turn it on a touch more.  For now, super small and no takers but some lookers.  Longboards will work later but wave size is debatable. Another great beginner surf day.  Don't forget the sunscreen.

PATCH:  Rocks and pelican morning but still no surfable waves.  Needs more water and the afternoon will have it.  Now flat.  Later ankle high + peelers.  Swimmers, kayaks and touring SUPs own it today.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars, to change the world.” - Harriet Tubman

Heavy with humidity but no rain.  Weatherman says high pressure and hot temps are coming.  Currently 61F and calm with glassy ocean surfaces.  NW windswell has picked up a bit and S swell has dropped so that is translating into Channel surf only this morning.  Early morning low tides are starting to fill in and push back and water levels are positive for most all the rest of the day.  There is small longboardable surf in town today and if you come with a smile on your face you will leave with one as well.

CHANNEL:   Taking a liking to the NW windswell and pop up peaks in the thigh high + size abound.  Rights and lefts and scattered mostly in the Channel proper with a few swinger waves hitting the Groin bar.  Seadrift feeling good as well with a bit smaller size but good shape and fun rides.  About 8 in the water and 2 van loads just pulling up loaded with foamie boards.  A great day for beginners and amateurs of all shapes and sizes.

PATCH:  Pelican a Plenty and not much else.  Flat and smooth and not surf conducive right now.  Some rocks showing but incoming tide will soon cover.  Needs S swell which we don't currently have.  Empty.

Daily Surf Report - 7/23/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It’s a magical world, Hobbes, ol’ buddy…Let’s go exploring!.” - Calvin (Bill Watterson)

Monsoons are rolling through today as it is densely drizzling this morning. Makes you want be a kid again, relaxing in that chair in the corner and reading some Calvin and Hobbes while you sip some warm hot chocolate and listen to the water hit the windows. Back to Bolinas and the real world. The ocean is glassy and the tide is high and still incoming, swamping out the surf creating lake Bo. If you're headed out here to surf, I recommend waiting for the tide to be a bit lower. Temperatures are in the low 60s and bound to stay there today if this monsoon decides to stay. Be careful driving out as highway 1 is slippery when wet and windy as always.

MORNING WEATHER UPDATE: The sun is peaking thru and the rain has passed. Looking like it may warm up and be a bright sunny day.

CHANNEL:   Small waves are breaking in the ankle high range in the middle groin and over to seadrift. No one is out and nothing is really breaking on the Bo side this morning. Wait for the tide to be a bit lower and see whats in store.

PATCH:  Pure sheets of glass only disturbed by the pelicans diving down for breakfast. No one is out and no waves are breaking as of now. Once again the key is to wait.

Daily Surf Report - 7/22/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It's never too late - never too late to start over, never too late to be happy. - Jane Fonda

Some days you wake up on the winning side, some days on the losing side, and some days you wake up too late and missed the game. Today is one of those late days. I'll get right down to the meat and potatoes this morning in hopes of settling all of the hunger building up inside you wave warriors. Slightly foggy this morning, but temperatures are at 61F with sunny skies on highway 1 the whole drive in. Hopefully the sun will break through the fog here today. Take in the beautiful scenery as there isn't a breath of wind and surface texture is as glassy as can be. Unfortunately it's a bit too glassy with not even the waves disturbing the surface. The tide is still incoming and a little too high so wait for a bit less water today before the waves appear in force. And don't forget the larger section of your quiver. Should be a great day for beginners though

CHANNEL:  Small waves in the ankle to knee high range are breaking this morning as the tide is a bit too high and swamping most of the swell out. Conditions should improve with a little less water on the bars later today. One SUP is out there cruising around trying his luck as of now.

PATCH: Conditions are glassy as could be and the water looks clear. Sort of reminiscent of Lake Tahoe on a warm day. No waves breaking here as the S Swell is no longer showing itself. Wait for the tide and maybe something will roll through.

Daily Surf Report - 7/21/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“He who has health, has hope; and he who has hope, has everything.” - Thomas Carlyle

Coastal cloudiness but no rain or low fog today - yippee!  Par for the July course of weather.  Humid and warm at 63F and not a breath of wind.  Calm and quiet morning.  Close your eyes, breathe deeply and soak in the sound of NOTHING.  Smooth ocean with just fading S swell and the NW windswell still delivering the goods this morning.  Plenty to ride for your nice longboard and we have full racks if your quiver needs an upgrade.

CHANNEL:  A nice wave rolling through the Channel on the deeper bar.  Plenty of potential for lefts, rights and straights.  Size is waist high and consistency was observed.  Seadrift has good bars set up as well with a little left but a longer right to ride.  Tides are finally favorable all day so jump on it while the waves are fun and available.

PATCH:  Last gasps of S swell showing up every 20+ mins of so - otherwise relatively flat.  Smooth and wonderful for kayaks and SUP paddlers but not much surfing moments so far.  Try wait for the next S swell or enjoy the peace and serenity as the lineup is empty.  Knee high waves when they do show.

Daily Surf Report 7/20/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Dare to be true: nothing can need a lie: A fault, which needs it most, grows two thereby.” - George Herbert, poet

Yes - we now have actual rain!

Some fog, some clouds, some whispers of sun burning through over the lagoon.  A typical Nor Cal morning full of joy, wonder and profound potential.  Winds are light and ocean is glassy and smooth.  Maybe smooth in a not so good kind of way.  Fading S swell (they don't last long) and a bit of NW windswell in the offering for wave production today.  Perfect for the beginner, amateur and micro slider crew.  Roly poly slip sliders in the knee to thigh high size are out there but the waiting period is a bit tedious this morning.  Good tides in your favor and positive thoughts may enhance your experience greatly.

CHANNEL:  2 SUPs on the inside Groin area says a lot this morning.  Occasional knee high rights coming through but mostly paddling in circles has been observed and duly noted.  Incoming afternoon tide may be able to give that extra little push we all need but for now you may need to seek refuge on the Seadrift side or explore new regions that offer a bit more exposure to swell.

PATCH:  Smoothness and S swell remnants.  Will spit out the dying gasps of swell every 20 mins or so.  What remains is thigh high + rights working on the inside.  Will hold for trim and peel towards shore.  Not sure what else you can ask for on an early Sunday morning.  Get it now while water levels remain high.  Mind the rocks later and remember we offer excellent ding repair services for the careless and carefree. 1 surfer on it and he is stoked for the peace and serenity.

Daily Surf Report - 7/19/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“The real voyage of discovery lies not in seeking new lands, but in seeing with new eyes.” - Marcel Proust

Coastal cloudiness and overcast conditions to start the morning.  Fear not as we will have sun on tap later today and mild temps approaching 70 - I consulted my CRYSTAL ball.  For now - 61F with light S winds texturing up the ocean a little bit.  SW swell hanging in there and a bit of NW windswell to boot.  Water levels are decent throughout the day and surf can be had all over the beach.  Still in the thigh to almost waist high realm but perfect for the longboard contingent.  Gather your precious stones and paddle out to get the weekend off on a positive note.

CHANNEL:  Paddle out to the Channel proper and towards the Seadrift side of things today for best results.  Good water levels here and a nice rolling wave with right and left potential for you.  Sizes run up to waist high and about 10 surfers on it now with more heading down.  Groin bar not feeling it yet but looks perfect for the wee little kids and micro-slider crew.

PATCH:  A bit of texture on it with the S winds but still feeling pulses from the S swell.  It is a battle of wills to see who will prevail and dominate the dojo.  Mid level rights that reel and run towards shore and allow for a trip to the nose or a stall on the face.  Still working at a fun size despite the wind and a small crew of log jammers partaking of the goodness.  Size sizzles at thigh / waist high but if you know the Patch this will work for your big boards with 1 fin.

Spritzing moisture but not quite rain.  Overcast and gloomy yet humid and warm at 61F.  No wind and expectations of sun should be realized later in the day.  Meager NW windswell and a decent and mid-period S swell joining forces to deliver the goods this morning.  Not pumping or epic but clean and rideable and the early morning tides were just right like baby bear's porridge.  There is something out there today you just have to have on open mind to see it.

CHANNEL:  Tide has peaked and now begins to drop until the late morning.  Not going negative but will eventually be too low to have good surf.  A clean wave breaking straight through the middle of the Channel and thigh to waist high in size breaking predominantly left with a little attempt at going right as well.  Overall and nice wave to view and ride and your longboard should agree as well.  Evening tides will be good as well.

PATCH:  Plenty of early morning water and the early birds catching the worm.  Mostly middle style rights that the Power Mouse knows how to ride.  Officially un-scored but the shop judges declare him the clear king today.  Size remains up to waist high +/- but smooth and holding shape this morning.  Tide now dropping so tread lightly as the rocks will expose and are always lurking below.  Evening incoming tide should have fun stuff as well so take advantage today as S swells do tend to die out quickly.

In addition, an Intergenerational Team Division and a Stand Up Paddle Board Division welcomes surfers of all ages.

Daily Surf Report - 7/17/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.” - Albert Einstein

Mellow moistness as we had some light overnight precipitation.  Now calm with sun breaking through, windless with glassy ocean, humid with a temp of 62F.  Looks like it could all be coming together for a nice beach day.  Still not much surf action with a fading NW windswell and a dropping tide.  Could be a new pulse of S swell showing up later today but it will take until the afternoon for water levels to rise enough to let it in.  A few waves are out there for the offering and positivity reigns supreme as always.

CHANNEL:  Tide still dropping to low for another 2 hours but sandbars are starting to show already.  A few lefts off the Groin bar that are rideable and ruling at thigh high in size.  Deeper Channel showing a mix of rights and lefts that end quickly with low water levels.  Still something that will get your longboard moving in the shoreward direction this morning.

PATCH: Still some water and a few rollers trying their best to fold over and break.  Best options are inside where the rocks are mostly covered and the rights run thigh high and will peel along towards shore.  Out by the meeting rock are teaser waves the look to break then hold up and roll under.  Those that work are thigh high + and longer rides can be had.  More waiting than surfing further out but the choice is always yours to make.  Afternoon high tide and a new S swell will turn the magic on.

Daily Surf Report - 7/16/2014

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” - Confucius

It's a cloudy morning here in Bolinas as the sun is doing it's best to push its way through and shine its radiant light upon us all. With air temps already in the mid 60s this morning, expect the sun to come out and for it to be a warm and beautiful day here once again. As far as surf goes, there isn't much to be seen. The tide is too low right now, but wait for later today as the tide comes in. The horizon is full of corduroy lines right now that are slowly rolling in and when the tide shifts and more water is over both the patch and groin, you can expect this 2-3ft NW swell to produce some fun small waves. But as has been the case for this week so far, the key is to wait for the tide and be patient.

CHANNEL:  All of the sandbars are exposed as the tide is in the negative and still going out. Lines are forming on the horizon though so expect waves in the ankle+ range as the tide fills in over the bars.

PATCH: Similar to the groin as the tide is too low and all of the rocks are exposed. Lines are rolling in and breaking on the way inside in the ankle range with corduroy lines all the way to the horizon giving hope to fun waves later today when the tide shifts. Wait for the tide before trying your luck and you may find some gems.
