Daily Surf Report - 12/31/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Minds are like parachutes...they only function when open." - Rick DaPrado

Good morning and a happy New Years Eve to all of you gnarly kids of the brine! It's another bee-u-tee-ful day here at the beach with a kiss of an off-shore breeze and the sun slung low on the horizon battling the overcast skies for domination. This is making that temperature creep in at a cool-ish 46 degrees. There is still some undulating activity in the liquid as I write this but there is also a higher-than-a-Georgia-pine tide coming in right about now (read tides at bottom of this blog). Use your better judgment when navigating your way in and out of the water with the boat ramp and/or sea wall and be kind to your fellow peeps.

CHANNEL:  Again, we have a decent bit of swell left in the water at waist + size as that middle bar and yes, the Mali-Bo bar are peeling like bananas this 'morn. I don't know how long this will continue considering the usual variables of tide and wind, but now is probably better than later as the out-going tide will be sucking out harder than a Capp Street Ho. A plethora of hydrodynamic equipment is there now.

PATCH: Too much water like too much beer to a frat boy. Pukey and not much else. However, later, gator is when this spot will present the purveyor's of the logs with some glide-able goodness. Empty of humanoids as I write this.

Daily Surf report - 12/30/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Happiness often sneaks through a door you didn't know you left open." -John Barrymore

Good morning water people and welcome to the last week of 2013! We have another glorious morning here at the beach with the temperature meandering in at 51 degrees and the sun shining like a silky smooth Dexter Gordon solo. We also have a bump in the water BUT also a snarling, big dawg tide that will bite and scare the watery undulations into hiding for a while. However, if time is a major factor and you have to venture into the water this morning, then sailor take warning of entering/exiting the ramp area and walking the walls. Keep your eyes open, your head on a swivel and use good judgment.

CHANNEL:  There is most definitely a boom in the trunk of this ranfla as the water height of these emerald gems is in the waist-to-occasional-eyeball high zone. The tide is rolling up faster than 5-Oh on a group of cholos holding a stolen flat-screen, so you can either jump on it now, or if you have a bit more of a leisurely lifestyle you can wait until that tide does the turn-around boogie and shake yo' booty later. Many water craft from custodial to shorty's and all tastes in-between are there now doing the slip-and-slide.

PATCH: This high tide is choking out the possibility of a decent wave like El Santo choking out Diablo Azul right now. However, for you longtime denizens of the Clam Patch you all know that the tide change is going to make this puppy bark like Cujo later today. Right now it's TRYING to throw down an above waist glider.... no one here....yet!

Aloha and safe travels to Sam "The Jepson Boy!" You're are already missed around here, homie. have fun but hurry back!

Daily Surf Report - 12/29/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Feel the breath of nature and you will understand how small we are.” -Anonymous

Fabulous and fairly, barely rideable. I'm seeing the greatest of possibilities for minimalists and train car hoppers. If it made sense, than it wouldn't be important. I'm seeing two of everything and a calm day with an air temp of 49*f and humidity at 49%. The sun is shinning and the beautiful people of our area are awake and ready for the love today. It is currently swelling with love and swelling even higher with water. The tide is furiously high and borderline baked. Bring the most foam you have or wait for a flip in the tidal scenario.

CHANNEL:  Up to the stars and out of the sky and into my crystal. The most gold I have ever personally seen in a sunrise. I'm saying it was as magical as you want it to be. To all who shared it with me, we are truly blessed. Its looking like it wants to peel, real, and steal our hearts, but with the magnitude of water gracing our presents it is making some frustrated faces in the H2O. The ocean is changing and with a few hours we might find ourselves with very positive change in conditions. Knee to waist high now, should be on the up and up. Soon young Skywalker.

PATCH: Bumpy and lumpy but no crackers for Polly are flowing. I'm seeing no souls feeling for a paddle and no one has signed up for my free, late night, meditation class and fishing tours. I'm seeing a lot of things, most times they are complicated. When we find something simple hold on to it. Not breaking yet but be positive. Wait it out.

Daily Surf Report - 12/28/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.” - Lao Tzu

Micro-frost and macro-sliders today.  Lowland frosty grasses and frisky foxes. Mid-level fog and watching owls - they see and know ALL.  Here in Bolinas the sun has returned in full force after a brief departure yesterday.  It is a beautiful and prosperous beach day today.  Currently temp is 43F but expect mid 60s by the afternoon with the high pressure weather system.  Winds remain NE - which is good and swell continues to deliver consistently although not too much size that all can't benefit.  Tide has just peaked and is heading low.  Entry and exit remains slightly dicey at the ramp so mind your toes.  Our dinghy holds 7 and is ready to depart for parts unknown so jump on board if you dare.  Parking is already thin and lineups are getting thick.  Should be surfable all day so take you time and get some waves.

CHANNEL:  Tide is heading low and in a hurry.  It can groom up the waves and make them throw a bit but watch the rip and surface conditions.  Still have good bars and swell hitting in the Channel and across at Seadrift.  Lefts in the Channel go waist high or better.  Rights at Seadrift are waist to chest and like the tide going low.  Shallow sections expose openings to pull into so disappear for a few seconds if you can.  Rideable and consistent for longboards, eggs and fish again today.  Spread out surfers with about 20+ in the water.  More are coming so remember your manners during this season of love and giving.

PATCH: Less waves and less people.  Less can be more if you have the right board.  Bring your big log to the Patch and score in solitude.  Less water may help and the outside peaks are showing up and have some size (waist+?) when they break.  Inside Snags continues to work and there is enough water to keep things covered for now.  Afternoon incoming tide will get things going again so keep the Patch on your radar today.

Daily Surf Report - 12/27/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I want to lean on you, get Jan and Dean on you.  It's time to spread a little mass perception." - Anthony Kiedis

Happy Days and smiles all around today.  WNW swell finding its way into Bolinas and delivering some holiday gifts for all.  Early am vampire surf crew and wanna-be blood suckers reap rewards.  A few pulses of energy can be felt.  Feel the center of the ocean.  Find the core, sink the fangs and drink deeply from the heart.  Fish and eggs for breakfast.  Suck it up.  Choke it down.  Brew some cramp-bark tea and knock it all back.  Tide is high and has peaked.  Outgoing starting to rip but also expose the depths of the ocean floor and let the sandbars strut their stuff.  Pick a peak and hold your ground.  Resist the pull and pull in where applicable.  Waves abound and all rejoice in the spirit of the holidays.  Sun over the Marin hills causes night creatures to retreat until later as the mass of humanity arrives.  Remember, it is better to give than receive but take a few extra today when everyone is looking.  Again sunny skies and warm temps.  Currently 54F with NE winds and a fine day to find your way to the beach.

CHANNEL:  Now tide is outgoing and a bit rippy on the surface.  Lefts in the Channel / Groin region that are waist high but not super clean.  A few hours of tide change will clean things up and there should be waves to ride all day.  Seadrift rights have good bars and open faces to rip on the sets.  Take the high line outside then stall the clamp section inside and find the barrel in the haystack.  It is there if you want it today.  Size runs chest high on the better waves and moderately consistent.  A spread out group of 12 + in the area and all are getting waves.  Not epic or world class but fun times with friends during this holiday time.

PATCH: Scattered peaks showing on the high tide with inside Snags rights and outside miscellaneous peaks breaking both ways.  Enough energy and area to find something to your liking and if you have a big board then head this direction.  Surface is smooth and good rides are abundant.  Size runs waist high or better today.

Daily Surf Report - 12/26/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” - Jimi Hendrix

Happy Boxing Day to all those in the UK and Canada.  Semi-chipper morning here with sunny skies, high pressure weather system bringing us temps of 57F already and lots of warm air on tap.  A wonderful day at the beach with lots of areas to explore and things to do if surfing isn't too high on your list.  Where all the swell at?  WNW groundswell starting to kick in on the buoys but not showing up in the water here yet.  Conditions are clean and tide is dropping so we are all set for when it arrives and will keep you posted as conditions improve.  In the meantime, throw on that new Xmas sweater, pull on your funky socks and slippers and roll out of bed to celebrate the glorious day ahead.  If Santa didn't get you that new wave sled or wetsuit swing by the shop to browse and find the gift you truly deserve.  Free hugs and candy canes while they last!!

CHANNEL:  Tide was high but is not on the retreat.  Ocean is smooth with inconsistent ripples and a few waves as well.  Only thigh high + and not too appetizing especially after a full Christmas dinner gorging.  There are a few in the water enjoying the weather and occasional rideable wave.  New swell should be coming soon and we'll keep an eye open for improvement throughout the day.

PATCH: Inside rights at the Snags with draining tide and emerging rocks.  Racy and risky but for those craving adventure this knee high wave may be just the ticket.  Empty lineup currently.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
  - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

MERRY CHRISTMAS.  We are CLOSED.
We will re-open Thursday morning at our usual time of 10AM

Good morning and Feliz Navidad todo! It's a wonderful Christmas morning here at the beach. The sun is up and singing in the key of Nat 'King' Cole as the temperature zips in at a nice 54 degrees. Not a whole heck of a lot to report wave-wise but it's still a nice day to tour on a SUP/kayak, go hiking or just loll around the beach with family and friends.

CHANNEL:  A sloppy thigh high at best this morning. A few janitors and a couple of logs sloshing around and enjoying the yule tide morning.

PATCH: Below knee and slower than the O.J. low-speed chase as these little po-dunks slurp over the rocks waaaaaay inside. No takers as of yet.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer." - Bruce Lee

Good morning and Happy Holidays to all of you mammals of the brine! It's yet another glorious morning here at the beach. the sun is up in it's winter, low-slung position smiling that gold tooth display as the temperature is sliding in at a chilly 45 degrees. There is vaguely a little bump left in the water today but looks to be quite the effort to get anything going... though, as surfing legend Larry Bertlemann has said, "Anything is possible."

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday for Christmas day but will re-open Thursday morning at our usual time of 10AM

CHANNEL:  That draining lagoon is making it so ugly right now that it could give aspirin a headache. Though a little waist high roller comes through here-and-there, one must really be aware of the outgoing tide to position correctly for a clean wave and take-off. About five (5) on longboards out there now doing more paddling than surfing. Maybe later with the tide change something a bit more positive will happen here.

PATCH: Super clean and glassy at just below waist high BUT not enough push today to make it a real barn burner. What waves that do make it past the hole are breaking way inside over the middle of the Patch and we all know that those rocks just under the surface want to play the Grinch to your Christmas wishes. We do offer ding repair... just sayin'.
Four (4) there now on longboards and janitorial equipment playing "Dodge the rocks."

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you won't have to hunt for happiness." - William E. Gladstone

Good morning everyone! Welcome to another spectacular morning here at the beach. The sun is up but hanging low above the horizon as the temperature slips in at a cool 46 degrees. There is still some juice left to be had in the H2O but that pesky tide is going to try it's best to harsh your buzz. Don't let it! Snap on the neoprene and grab the hydrodynamic vehicle of your choosing and do what Big Joe Turner used to say, "Flip, Flop and Fly!"

CHANNEL:  a little sumpthin' be-boppin' in at waist (+/-) range with a few takers out there gliding and sliding the morning (and quite possibly their cares, as well) away over that middle bar which is working a bit better on that Sea Drift side. Be-bop-a-lula!

PATCH: Hunky and chunky but a corner may be obtained with the right eyeballing and a little bit of patience. Things are slipping through in the waist (+/-) range for the moment from the middle/inside of the Clam Patch to the Snags to just out side of the Snags, Left of the Clam Patch (aka Ladies Lefts. E.T.'s, Estrogen Reef et al) and there is plenty for all to share. remember the rules of the road and everyone should have a wonderful time.

Daily Surf Report - 12/22/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“All who can let go, are the real holders of their reality.” - anonymous

Good morning to all and everyone this morning. It's beautiful, it's wild , it's whatever your little day is supposed to be. Its' reality, It's myth, It's surfing. 45*f this morning with a positively perfect flaming orb in the sky melting all those frozen toes in the water now. We crawl out of bed, and walk to our car, bike or any vehicle. BUT; when we get to the ocean, there is a reason we run to the water's edge. Think literally and mystically and you will finally get surfing. A few in the water, wavers to ride and smiles to have.

CHANNEL:  Surf riders and all fantasizing terrestrial organisms rejoice. There is a little bit of the good stuff in the knee to belly range and about 5 of the mentioned above in the water. The days are expanding but not nearly as fast as my mind. Let the water flow over you and wash your sorrows away. 20 minutes will yield a much more tangible effect on the soul than 20 hours behind a desk. Experience life for the first time again and rip or shred. Slightly closing out but tidal change may be beneficial in this region.

PATCH: Pass a note to that cutie in the lineup and confess your love. No one will know you have a heart if you don't show it around at all convenient and inconvenient places. Look around and if you take it to seriously, you are not quite there yet. The SURF is LOOKING Knee to possibly waist high plus depending on the tidal swings. That's the plain English version. Remember to kiss your important person so you can get personal with yourself.

Daily Surf Report - 12/21/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“It takes a noble man to plant a seed for a tree that will some day give shade to people he may never meet.” - D. Elton Trueblood

Winter solstice 2013 begins today: The sun is lowest, the night is longest, with 9.5 hours of light and 14.5 hours of darkness.  Interesting facts indeed.  No matter where you live on Earth’s globe, it’s your signal to celebrate. For us on the northern part of Earth, the shortest day is here! After the winter solstice, the days get longer, and the nights shorter. It’s a seasonal shift that nearly everyone notices.  Again it is sunny and much warmer already with a temp of 50F.  E winds and high pressure are back in the Bay Area and that means warm and dry weather conditions.  I've got multiple visions of sugar plum fairies dancing in my head and a cold dip in the ocean should straighten your sights.  Rapidly dropping wind swell  still delivering but size is diminishing.  It is a new season with a myriad of possibilities starting now.  Free range foxes rule the day.  Don't let today slip away without getting a wave or two.

CHANNEL:  Bars remain in place as wind swell drops and the interval shortens.  Still providing something to ride and the off shore winds are moderate and warm today.  Plenty of spray off the back and extra foam is the key to happiness and harmony today.   Santa will be delivering a new WNW swell and precursor waves may be viewed before dark if we are lucky.  Weather conditions are fab so make the first day of Winter and beach day by golly.  Waves in both the Channel and at Seadrift have come down in size and run consistently thigh high + but still enough energy to get longboards going.

PATCH: A hint of a small background S swell in the water but waves are few and far between this morning.  Kayaks and SUPs are more apt to enjoy this spot today for paddling pleasure.  Stand up surfing may not take place here today unless conditions change significantly.  Sunny, smooth ocean and beautiful just not any swell making it into the Patch quite yet.  Stay tuned as the next swell is big and could wrap a few in later in the weekend.

Daily Surf Report - 12/20/2013

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“Don't be pushed by your problems, be led by your dreams.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Blisteringly crispy morning with temps back down into the high 20s in the low regions.  No moisture in the air but frosty conditions exist.  Now up to a robust 35F as the sun is out, the skies are blue and the wind remains light and offshore.  Fabulous Fall morning - again.  Still have a decent dose of NW wind swell but it has some size to it and is translating into rideable and fun surf conditions today.  The sandbars are set and the direction is good.  Grab some foam and toss your troubles to the wind.  Find your happy place in the ocean and allow the serenity to soak in.  It is medically and scientifically proven that surfing is the cure for all ailments.

CHANNEL: Magical moonlit session with champagne wishes and caviar dreams.  Also frosty toes and dripping noses.  Water still hanging in at 52F but air and ground about half that.  NW wind swell continues to deliver fun stuff today.  In the Channel the left bar is working at waist high and the morning crew of 8 are rotating through with plenty of nice manners.  Venture across to Seadrift and you will find waist to chest high rights that reel and peel and are fast and fun.  Walls to climb and a cross step or two.  Inner bend section has dropping bottom and throwing top and there is a small window to peek or climb into for a brief moment.  Incoming tide is just right and the surf is fairly consistent and gave everyone plenty of rides.  Logs and eggs are the call.  Hot coffee and a side of bacon as well.  Hold the toast cause BT don't roll like that.  Smooth ocean surface and sunny.  Why wait - try now.

PATCH: A few more instances of waves in the Patch today but looking mostly suitable for SUPs.  Inner Snags section still whomping away and the outside wave is breaking softly and thigh high in size.  It is beautiful and sunny this way and just a few in the water so give it a look as the incoming tide is helping a bit.  Not great but a few rides can be had here today.

It is a wonderful Fall morning here at the beach with the temp in at 47F, clear blue skies and full of sunshine.  Soak in some vitamin D today and give those cheeks a rosy glow.  Wind remains off shore and there is still some remaining swell in the water graciously delivering rideable waves today.   Put off your holiday shopping and take a dip.  You still have 6 more days until Christmas.

CHANNEL: Mostly NW windswell but it shows size on the buoys and the angle is hitting the Channel.  Incoming tide for a little extra push.  Offshore winds have the deeper bar left spraying off the back and rolling, reeling and peeling towards shore.  Size goes waist high + and fun stuff on your longboard today.  Inner bar Mali-Bo rights like these conditions and occasionally delivers a wave for a shorter board.  Groomed up and clean today and worth putting on a suit.  2 in the water so far.

PATCH: Way, way inside at the Snags it walls up then fires towards shore.  It is short, sweet and fast but a bit shallow and rocky.  If you are looking for excitement here - this is your wave.  Otherwise, outside at the meeting rock there are a few waves that are breaking with no takers.  Big boards look like they could work and size is a guess-timate at thigh high +.  Tide peaks in 2 hours and maybe later it will clean up a bit.  Not the best swell angle to make this spot epic.

Inspirational crystal quote of the day:
“My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure” - Abraham Lincoln

Good morning to all of you gliders, sliders and wave riders! It's a wonderful winter morning here at the beach with the temperature bobbing in at a brisk 46 degrees. The sun is up and out but playing hide-and-seek behind some scattered cumulus with a slight off-shore breeze texturing the surface of the water. There is still a tad of a swell left here in town and no one really knows how long it intends to hang around, so if you are so inclined perhaps a maritime trip is in your near future.

CHANNEL: Even with this incoming tide the Middle Bar is attempting to toss something up for some liquid enjoyment in the waist (+/-) area and surprisingly there are currently NO takers! It's a bit of a wait for a clean one but they do arrive, a polished emerald gleaming in the morning light is yawning, empty and lonely across the sand bar.

PATCH: A sub-par undulation right in the middle of the Clam Patch that can ramp up slightly more waaaaaay inside... if you catch it that is. However, with this upcoming tide these "waves" are getting flatter and flatter. For some bizarre reason, while the Channel is giving a much better wave with no takers there are about ten (10) logs and custodians in the Patch failing away. Go figure.
