Daily Surf Report - 7/31/2013

Its a magical day today. Humans, fish-people, Mermaids, and all aquatic creatures rejoice! Tide is up, wind is down, and the surf is up. Air temp is a sweet sweet 56*F and the wind is a very sensual and very light sou-westerly. Six creatures are in the water now and I'm seeing surf in the waist to Chest high range; relative to humans. The Buoys are reading 4ft at 15sec so grab your quiver and come enjoy the local wildlife.

CHANNEL:  Finger licking waist to chest high with three friends in the water now. Everyone is getting something and every board may be experimented with today. High tide is making the water a little chubby but there are long rides to be had.

PATCH:  I'm calling it human Knee to human belly high with rides from almost at the meeting rock, all the way to the sand. I'm talking 'bout love. Nose ridding love, knee boarding love, body surfing love and much much more. Go get a section of love for yourself.

Adult Surf Camp will be offered from August 12th to August 15th for $320 per person. Camp will last from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and will include over 3 hours of instruction per day. Students will receive instruction on the beach and in the water and have the opportunity to surf both of the breaks in Bolinas in a range of tides and conditions. Adult Surf camps are the perfect way to quickly improve your surfing skills or learn the basics. Camp size is kept small (4 to 6 people) to ensure students receive the personal attention needed to improve. Advanced registration is required to attend and you can sign up HERE.  Surf equipment (board, wetsuit and boots) will be available to rent from the 2 Mile Surf Shop for your clinic and will be $50/day

Daily Surf Report - 7/30/2013

EARLY CLOSE today, CALL in advance.

There is a beautiful morning calm today with an air temp of 56*F and a very light sou-westerly wind. Calling it knee to thigh high with no one out yet. Over all its looking a little chunky with the high tide, but there are plenty of ride-able sets at both spots.
The ocean is a forever changing. Wind, tide, swell, etc. are all factors that need to be taken into consideration when entering the sea. Conditions WILL change as the day progresses so be ready for anything and come out only if you bring a positive attitude. Have respect for the ocean and the people around you, and you WILL have fun.

CHANNEL:  Thigh high lefts in front of the sign are very do-able and are going un-ridden. There is a current pulling out of the lagoon and no one is out at this time. An egg is sure to get you surf here but bring a log to really tickle your fancy. Be the first out and choose your wave.

PATCH:  Sets are looking to be in the knee high range and a few rocks are popping up throughout. Run the slalom coarse with your biggest board. Lower tide will kill anything growing in the patch so hurry hurry or wait it out. Two other water bathing, ripple riders are headed out now and waiting for you.

Adult Surf Camp will be offered from August 12th to August 15th for $320 per person. Camp will last from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and will include over 3 hours of instruction per day. Daily Surf Report - 7/29/2013

Doors CLOSING @ 5:00 today.

Its Christmas in July, but sadly, there are no presents under the tree. Crisp, Christmas weather is showing up in town. Gray skies and an air temp of 57* has socked in Bolinas nice and tight. No one woke up early to spread the Christmas aloha, but a positive attitude could bring you some surfing joy this morning.

CHANNEL:  Small and messy is the name of the game today, but a big board may do the trick. Waist to possibly belly high sets are rolling in but are being ripped apart like wrapping paper due to the current coming out of the lagoon. There are some surf-able sections for a big enough board and a keen enough eye.

PATCH:  Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is a clean south swell. I really do appreciate the surf I have been given but as you know knee high mush does get tiring. I offer my soul and 1,000 dollars cash money to you in return for the previously mentioned surf.
PS, Please cut off the slight onshore this morning. Thanks
                                                                                Sincerely, Jeff Spicoli

Daily Surf Report - 7/28/2013

Bolinas is so fickle.  So tide and swell dependent.  So willing to change and change again throughout the day, delivering all types of surf at different spots. Yesterday was a perfect example - nothing doing in the early am / Patch working throughout the mid-day into evening before getting swamped out / Channel and Mali-Bo doing its thing in the afternoon / evening session rights at the Groin and even out front.  Waves all over if you take the time to find them.  If you want to roll out here in your monster SUV, loaded with shortboards in an agro style you will always be disappointed.  Come out chill, with some time on your hands.  Bring the family and a few pieces of surf gear.  Enjoy the beautiful drive and take in some scenery.  You will always end your day with a smile.

Overcast and misting - as per Summer.  56F now with sun and mild temps coming later.  No wind.  The S swell is still active and coughing out the last bits of surf for you today.  Watch your tides and pick your spots accordingly.

CHANNEL:  Tide draining but not too low this morning giving this spot the ability to work throughout the day.  Right now the deeper bar has rideable lefts in the waist high size and a small crew of about 8 are on it.  Might be the same group that surfed it last night as it was working then too.  Groin area is getting low but still supporting knee high left zippers probably best for boogie board and body surfers this morning.  Incoming tide had delivered all week.

PATCH:  Small this morning and lulls between the sets.  Mid-way has rollers in the thigh high zone and they come in small bunches as is the way S swells work here.  1 lonely SUP out there now.  Paddle out and let him know he has a friend.  Afternoons with more tide pushed the waves out past the meeting rock.

Daily Surf Report - 7/27/2013

Again we start with overcast skies and coastal cloudiness.  Sun was out by 11am yesterday and today looks to be the same conditions.  Temp a bit cooler at 55F but no wind at the beach.  Still have some decent S swell in the water but the angle is steeper today. The tide is dropping quickly so water levels will not hold waves for too much longer.  Afternoons have been good once the tide fills back in.  Bring a big board and have some time on your hands and you will be rewarded with waves at some point.

CHANNEL:  Tide heading low but still some water and waves to ride this morning.  Small lefts in the Channel that are thigh high + and will break and run along towards the inside.  Soon to be over once the tide bottoms out but incoming tide has produced waves during the later parts of the day.  Some fun body surfing waves right out front of the boat ramp as well.

PATCH:  Not feeling it today as good as yesterday.  Steeper swell angle may be part of the cause.  Long lulls between sets but waves will show up outside the meeting rock.  Rights rolling in about thigh / waist high.  Have a log?  Bring it to the Patch and ride waves today.

Daily Surf Report - 7/26/2013

Drizzle, mist, overcast, coastal cloudiness.  We have a little bit of all here this morning in beautiful West Marin.  Relatively windless and temp 58F.  Sun was out by noon yesterday but today may be a different story.  Dropping tide and dropping S swell makes things fickle today.  Some spots are working now and others will work later.  Bring a big board and have some time on your hands and you will be rewarded with waves at some point.

CHANNEL:  Ripped to shreds by the dropping tide.  Swirling water over exposed sandbars makes for interesting viewing but no surfing at this time.  Empty lineup and rightfully so.  Again the micro spinning left showing us the potential for this spot when conditions are right.  Wait for incoming tide later today and give it another look.

PATCH:  Way outside past the meeting rock there are waves.  Waist high slow rollers good for the log, SUP or NUP.  Dropping tide may shut it down soon but there are about 8 surfers out there now enjoying the morning session.  Afternoons have had positive feedback here when water levels are higher.

Daily Surf Report - 7/25/2013

It all starts with a little belief in miracles.  Good morning and welcome to another summer day in Nor Cal.  Overcast but windless.  Temp at 57F and sun will eventually come out to warm things up.  The tide is bottoming out now but will return without fail by late morning and stick with us into the afternoon.  A S swell is out there and the angle is good but water is required for it to show off.

CHANNEL:  Low tide morning has it drained out and ripped up.  Lots of swirling water around the sandbars and a spinning, draining left that is reeling in 6" of water.  Wave is perfect but ocean conditions are not.  Expect massive improvement later in the day as water levels rise and swell gets to appear.

PATCH:  Too low for the Patch right now.  Knee high rollers not quite breaking but the low tide is the cause.  Let the water levels rise and the surf will come with it.  Patience is a virtue and key today to maximize your stoke. Empty lineup as it should be with these conditions.

Daily Surf Report - 7/24/2013

Good morning all of you purveyors of the brine. It's a foggy morning here at the beach with the temperature coming in at a misty 57 degrees without a bit of wind (thus far). The tide is out but rambling back in and even though the Channel isn't producing anything right now the Patch is trying to show off and grab your attention by tossing a few bones our way on the outside. If you do come out, a log with some volume to it may do the trick.

CHANNEL: Again, this morning low tide is draining the lagoon like 2008 did our savings and with this low tide the sand bars are exposed like a steroids scandal. Fear not, as yesterday by about midday this place was 'a firing. So, go back to bed, go back to work, go back to where ever you go back to and then come back later and give it a check as you may be surprised!

PATCH: Again, the Patch is trying to gleam through the fog like the surfers beacon of hope. Waist (+/-) are slopping through the (way) outside and since there is no wind (yet) the conditions are classy and glassy. Grab the big board and log in the fog! One (1) humanoid out there enjoying the solitude.

Daily Surf Report - 7/23/2013

UPDATE! Things have cleaned up a bit at both the Channel and the Patch. Get a big board and go!

Good morning denizens of all things aquatic. It's another gray day here at the beach with the temperature sneaking in at 59 degrees, though the sun has been coming out later in the mornings. There is no wind to speak of yet and a bit of a swell (emphasis on "bit" as in "small") trying to pump something through. The tide is far too low at the Channel (as the sand bars are opening their trench coats and exposing themselves) but the Patch is showing a bit of a roller on the outside. Could turn out to be a grand day indeed.

CHANNEL: WAAAAAY too low right now but with the incoming tide and the way those sand bars look all groomed and such it "could" be an eventful day in the middle of the Channel a bit later on today. The password here today is; Patience.

PATCH: It looks waist (+/-) outside of the Meeting Rock/Bulk Head/Rock and even Green/Africa is demonstrating a bit of a pop if you feel like paddling over for a bit of a safari. As the tide fills in and if the wind can hold off this may be the call. Four (4) out now on logs. Two (2) trying and failing at inside Mystos. David & Hank heading outside the Bulk Head to where the action is. Ride 'em cowboys!

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 7/22/2013

Good morning you surferos del mar. It's a funky, like a bowl legged monkey Monday morning here with sloppy and choppy surf. The temperature is rumbling in at a cool-ish 58 degrees, overcast and gray and there is this pesky on-shore breeze that's not helping to improve the surf one iota. Hopefully later in the day this wind will die down some, the sun will come out and we could have some shiny little gems rolling and lolling along just how you like 'em. Until then.....

CHANNEL: It's waist high (+/-) crumble-bums that occasionally will roll but not at any consistent level yet. With this on-shore and the tide still way out (but coming back up) it looks like it'll be more of a waiting game here this morning. Two (2) humanoids out now just trying to stay in position... for what, no one knows but them. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

PATCH: Trying to work something out side of the Rock/Bulk Head/Meeting Rock but it's long waits for above waist high, ugly mutants that section and then disappear to whence they came from. maybe later today but this on-shore wind and goofy swell direction(s) is making it anything but enjoyable. Three (3) desperate souls out there now that are clearly.... desperate.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 7/21/2013

Its a cranky day in town today with un-favorable conditions. An unhappy on-shore flow is blowing today and surf is in the small to small range. Average thigh high sets are moving in today with a current temp of 55*F. Gray skies are dominating at this time but have a distinct possibility of clearing up later in the day. Its a crisp and beautiful way to start the day.

CHANNEL: Knee to waist high close outs popping up all over the place. No one out today, and a not so happy texture is making this spot not-so surf-able. Shake off that morning glum and hit the water. Possible lefts in front of the sign may be had but are few and far in between.

PATCH: One Janitorial surfer on it this morning. Knee high and slow is the call today. A big board will be the key as not much is showing itself. Some rocks are ready to weave around but mostly you will be going strait.

Daily Surf Report - 7/20/2013

HAKA HAKA!!!  Holy Saturday Dance Fight Wave Slayers.
It's another Saturday out here in Bolinas and the parking lot is already brimming with wild eyed, drooling surfer types, scratching to get into their wet wetsuits that they forgot to dry out last nite, sandy asses and all.  Rumors of the south swell have undoubtedly made it back to the pentagon, and the secret service is out there with the el jefe in the mar this morning.  The wind is not great right now, slight on shore, creating texture and bump, but swell is filtering regardless.  If it turns around today, the NW could groom it up, or maybe if the janitors get out there to sweep it into a pile...

CHANNEL: About knee high to waist, flip flopping through the middle out there.  About 10 guys on it at present, tide is filling in and if the wind switches and swell continues to fill in we could see some bi-polar vast improvement from the morning sickness that it has now......but we'll have to wait and see.

PATCH: Knee to about waist at present, with about 30 people spread out all along the whole patch reef and beyond.  They must know something we don't as it looks like a buoy convention on the way outside past the meeting rock.  Grab a log and slip and slide through all of your buddies chatting with their coffee and tea in the line up this morning, cliff and wall dwellers need not apply.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Closing at 5:30 today. Sun is out. Both spots have picked up a bit.

Happy Thursday. There is a low lying fog and slight drizzle this morning. Flat  conditions and the temperature is about 57 degrees. Hoping for the sun to make an appearance later in the day.

CHANNEL: Glassy as there is no wind but there really isn't a swell either. About shin high.

Daily Surf Report - 7/17/2013

UPDATE: The sun is out and there is a small little sumpin' sumpin' in the Channel. The wind is going a bit as well but it is a wonderful sunny day.

It's somewhat poetic (perhaps, ironic?) that Wednesday's have been called "Hump Day," because this morning's surf, AT BEST would resemble a hump and not much more. At least it's not drizzling like yesterday. Flat to almost concave conditions this morning, kids as it's overcast (shocker!) and the temperature is bumping along at 58 degrees. Let's just hope this marine layer burns off and we can have some sun and a nice beach day!

CHANNEL: Well, the conditions are glassy as there is no wind but there really isn't a swell either. As stated above there really isn't a wave just a hump that might make Quasimodo a tad envious. Maybe a janitor board to tool around the pond? No one here..... duh.

PATCH: Just like yesterday only flatter than the Kansas plains! Again, custodial gear will work here just to paddle around and look at stuff, otherwise.... maybe it's a good day to get to that laundry. No one here either.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 7/16/2013

Good morning surf enthusiasts. It's another gray morning here at the beach but this particular morning is siding a bit more on the dismal side of things as the temperature is oozing in at 55 and it's overcast and drizzling a touch. Hey, this is how summer can be at this little South facing, Northern California beach. Maybe later we may see some positive changes, so lets hope for the best.

CHANNEL: It's crumbly and cruddy here this morning as this knee-high looking thing that is attempting to pass itself off as a wave isn't fooling anyone... well, most anyone. It's puking along the sand bar as the lagoon empties it's contents like a date-rapey frat boy would do at Spring Break after far too many Bud light's and shots of Jaegermeister. You may want to wait this one out today and check back later after lunchtime.... or nap time... maybe dinner? Two (2) longboards out there looking more like white water kayakers.

PATCH: Fah-lat! I watched the Patch this morning over my coffee for 25 minutes and I've seen more action on CSPAN then anything here today. Maybe later but I really doubt it as not much of a swell is coming through. Maybe tomorrow? No one here. Not a soul. Nada. Nothing. No-thing!

Daily Surf Report - 7/15/2013

Happy Monday kids! It's another crisp, cool summer morning here at the beach as it's foggy (a bit), overcast (a lot) with almost ride-able surf (sorta'). The temp is sputtering in at about 54 degrees as a bit of a SW wind is sneezing on the salad bar giving the water surface that texture your skin gets after laying in the bath far too long. There are some wishful thinkers out there right now. If things change I'll let you know all about it right here.

CHANNEL: The lagoon is emptying out faster than the audience at a Michelle Shocked concert. Exposed sand bars are imminent as a knee high gurgler is sloshing across this rapidly draining river run. Naturally, what goes out will come back in. Later in the day this may be the spot. No one here as of yet.

PATCH: "They say that I'm a dreamer--but I'm not the only one." Today at the Patch and Green/Africa this 'morn there are plenty of John Lennon fans who are taking 'Imagine' to heart. Long waits for knee-high waves that don't break or go ten yards for a first down then disappear. Not the most optimum conditions but I admire the pluck of dreamers. Five to six (5-6) longboards and custodial gear looking for Yoko.

Daily Surf Report - 7/14/2013

Put on your party hat and crack that whip today.  Overcast, misty fog with clearing expected.  Currently 56F and a bit humid but calm with zero wind.  Tide heading low so you may have some time to wait for more water and better waves but come get wet anyway today.

CHANNEL: 4 in the water battling small conditions and outgoing tide rip.  Churned up by dropping water levels but that isn't stopping the intrepid surfer that needs to get waves and it shouldn't stop you either.  Bring the longboard and try to catch 3 to the beach.  They are out there if you wait and are in the right position.  Thigh high + on the best ones.

PATCH: 1 janitor sweeping things up and doing a great job.  Smooth and FLAT surface in the Patch this morning.  Occasional calf cramper rights rolling through that the biggest of boards or SUPs can ride.  More water and less rocks will be the ticket here later in the day.

Daily Surf Report - 7/13/2013

It's a funky funky morning out here in Bobo-town today.  Not many surfers around, except for the one surfer out in the channel getting swirled around by the rip.  Throw on some George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic and get righteous this morning as the waves, well, the waves are FUNKY.

CHANNEL: one person out...waves?  Hmm.  Re-read above.  Maybe waist high over at seadrift, but not much to speak of.  maybe when the tide turns around.

PATCH: On-shore winds and questionable conditions are what we have yet again this morning.  Exposed rocks everywhere, and maybe some whitewater bashing against it here and there, but no waves as of yet...maybe when the tides pushes in.

Daily Surf Report - 7/12/2013

Good morning everyone and a happy Friday to you all. It's yet another overcast morning here at the beach with the temperature coming in at 56 degrees and a pretty stiff on-shore breeze has the water surface textured pretty well. Per usual, the tide change and weather conditions will be the factor for some possible fun later. I'll post up any changes if they do indeed occur or time permits. May the force be with you.

CHANNEL: I could of just copied and pasted the exact same thing here from previous days this week as the Channel is pretty much doing what it has been doing all week during the mornings, which is the same as that janky homeless guy up on the Mesa has been doing.... nothing. However, the tide turnaround later in the day has been delivering some ride-able glides in the afternoon/evening. Wait for it and it will come....hopefully. As for the homeless guy.... naw.

PATCH: On-shore winds and questionable conditions are not stopping six or seven longboards and janitor boards from slogging along. Though the sets are rolling in at about waist high right around the Bulk Head/Meeting Rock/Rock and with this on-shore wind they are anything but clean. Still, if you've been out of the water a while and are desperate.... Maybe later it'll clean up.

Daily Surf Report - 7/11/2013

Good day to all of you denizens of salty realities. It's another summer morning here at the beach... as in, overcast and drizzly with temps slipping in at 56 degrees. It'll warm up eventually but right now there is a pretty thick fog hugging the coast but not enough where you can't see the surf... if there were any. Okay- it's really trying today but these negative tides have a way of acting like the "Fun Police" that like to kill the buzz so badly that even Gandhi would cross the street to kick 'em in the berries. I say wait for the tide change then grab a log and glide your cares away.

CHANNEL: Low tide = No Bueno here! Sand bars so exposed that I watched a Golden Retriever chase a flock of sea gulls (not to be confused with that British haircut band) almost to the line up. So, if you don't have hip waders and a fishing pole I suggest waiting for the tide to turn and then make a plan of action.... until then, get back to work. I'm not paying you to fool around on the computer!

PATCH: It's REALLY trying to do something here. What that "something" is, I haven't a clue but I would guess that it's attempting to create some sort of wave action...? The rocks are exposed and out by the "Meeting Rock/Bulk Head/Rock it's calling like the sirens in Odysseus... with the tide turn (much, much) later and a big enough log you may be able to spank that plank into some nice glides.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 7/10/2013

Good morning creatures of the brine and welcome to another "Hump day." The conditions today.... well, second verse, same as the first but a little bit louder and a little bit worse. Pretty much identical to yesterdays conditions- Over cast with slight bit of fog, no wind to speak of, temp coming in at about 57 degrees but the fog will burn off and things will heat up. Ironically, later in the afternoon yesterday the swell did pick up a smidgen. By evening it was really sunny, slight side wind and waist-to-occasional-just-under chest high peelers (Under chest: Channel. Waist: Patch). Perhaps this could happen again today? Stay tuned.

CHANNEL: This low tide is killing any possibility of a wave to ride. The sand bars are exposed Like Nixon at Watergate (look it up, kids. It's good to know your history). The swell is near non-existent right now, though it's glassy it just isn't classy. However, later today with the tide change it could get snappy and then you can get jiggy with it! Not a soul here as I write this....shocker!

PATCH: The Patch. A fickle spot indeed. One day it can be the ultimate in gliding elegance and then the next day it can flatten right out only to frustrate and cause one to curse a blue streak. Unfortunately, this morning it's the latter. Though last night there were plenty of waist high gems to hang five over on and only three (3) of us in the water enjoying it.... maybe tonight we will see a repeat performance? One can only hope and wait. Russ and Frank, the Dawn Patrols version of "Bert & Ernie" are counting to ten and learning their ABC's on custodial equipment as I write this as there is not much in waves to be cleaned this 'morn.
This report is brought to you by the letter; E and the number; 8.

Daily Surf Report - 7/9/2013

Buenas dias vatos y cholas de surferos! It's foggy out here at the beach this morning and so quiet you could almost hear a mouse pass gas from the Stinson/Sea Drift side of the lagoon. It's 57 degrees and should warm up a bit later. No wind to speak of making it Windex glassy out here BUT... almost no surf to speak of either. Small to non-existent in each spot but once the tide turns around one never truly knows what the day can bring. I'll update right here if anything should change for the better.

CHANNEL: A little bit of a swell attempting to show but it's almost knee high (but not quite) and it's in ankle deep water as the tide is WAY out. Sand bars are more visible than Janet Jackson's nipple at a Super Bowl halftime show. When the tide shifts gears later perhaps this spot may show something worth while. Two humanoids are out there now attempting to make it look like they are surfing before they have to stop and trudge off to their respective cubicles and go back to living the "Office Space" lifestyle. Let's hope that they don't have to move their desk again.... and they get to keep the red Swingerland stapler too.

PATCH: The Patch is really trying by letting knee-high slurpers grunt and wheeze around the Meeting Rock/Bulk Head/Rock before disappearing completely back under the oceans surface never to be heard from again. So, with the tide turnaround perhaps the good 'ol Patch will give you something later today instead of acting like Lucy and snatching the football away at the last second. No one here but a few gulls.
