Daily Surf Report - 6/30/2013

An important message from the Sandbar Conservation Coalition:
Attention all surfers and beach goers.  In an effort to help preserve and grow the current sandbar population in Bolinas we are asking you to please leave the sand on the beach.  Do NOT bring it all back on your wet wetsuits or stuck to the melted wax on your boards.  This sand ends up in the public sewer system and clogs drains.  It diminishes our vital surfing resource which are sandbars that form and groom waves.  Thank you for your prompt attention to this epidemic problem.

More heat inland for today and into Wednesday.

Un-official temps recorded yesterday were records and are listed here:
Bolinas 92
Fairfax 118
San Rafael 120
Petaluma 119
Santa Rosa 135
Sacramento 151

Head to the beach for some relief and catch a few waves as well.  We have sunny skies and a morning temp of 60F with no wind to start the day.  A full parking lot already with plenty of surfers in the water and more coming.  S swell dropping but still out there in the water along with a bit of NW windswell.  Definitely waves to ride but smaller than in the past 2 days.  Morning tides are good and evening tides are better.

CHANNEL:  Smaller but plentiful with thigh to almost waist high waves to ride at a few spots.  Outside Channel bar is set and hopefully will stay that way.  There are good lefts to ride there until the tide bottoms out.  Outgoing flow making it hard to stay on your spot but bring a longboard and be rewarded.  Inner Groin bar has waves as well that are smooth and thigh high.  Mali-BO and inside the Channel proper has some rideable rollers that will run for a while if you are in the right spot.  Water is warm and air is hot.

PATCH: Scattered waves to ride with the S swell still showing and delivering a few waves to ride.  Not as consistent in between the sets but there are rights way outside and mid-way as well in the thigh high +.  Inside waves for the moment as the tide is still good.  Bring the trusty log and paddle out.

Daily Surf Report - 6/29/2013

HBD to WBT.  30 today.  Abide

Heat wave, frying eggs, killer bees and more on this hot-hot weekend.  Already 62F and warming.  Full sunshine and light N winds.  Still a bit of NW windswell and a diminishing S ground swell in the water.  A full parking lot already and lots of families heading to the beach.  Tide is heading low so get on it now.  Plenty to ride all over town today so bring your riding apparatus and get wet or swelter inland.

"The National Weather Service is warning residents from northern California, including Sacramento, all the way to southern Arizona of the possibility of intense heat through the weekend that could rival a 2005 heat wave that killed 17 people in the Las Vegas area.  Arizona and the California deserts seem to be in for the worst of it. Temperatures are forecast to rise as high as 122 degrees in California's Coachella Valley, as high as 129 in Death Valley and up to 118 in Phoenix.  Head to the beaches to get waves and cool off."

CHANNEL: A bit wonky as the tide drops and runs out of the lagoon.  Smooth conditions outside on the deeper Channel bar where there are waist high + waves breaking left.  A bit ripped up at the inner Groin bar due to the outgoing water movement.  The inside lefts up towards the Boat Ramp area are smooth, glassy, thigh high and empty.  That is where I would park my log and ride.  Expect sub-optimal water levels soon but the afternoon and evening sessions have had plenty of water and lots of waves as well.  Lots of body surfing opportunities as well.

PATCH: Scattered waves to ride with S swell surf still lingering and rideable today.  Rights way outside and mid-way as well in the almost waist high size.  Inside waves at the Snags that are smooth and thigh high.  All fun stuff in the water so bring your big board and get a few.  Outgoing tide will get the rocks showing their teeth but the afternoon incoming tide will start up the carnival ride again.

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 6/28/2013

 Evening Update:
SURF!
Overcast and fog starting to give way to sunshine.  Expect warmness at the beach and unbearable heat inland.  Temps predicted to hit triple digits for the next 3-4 days.  Currently 59F and no wind.  Still high humidity at 71%.  Tide starting to really suck out and you know what that can do the surf conditions.  Still have the SW swell kicking in but NW has dropped and is mainly windswell at this time.  Waves to ride out in the mist and the lineups will be getting crowded.

CHANNEL: Glassy and low tide conditions.  Standing room only as you can walk out to the break.  Shallow at best on most waves.  Lots of water leaving the lagoon and tide pull is strong.  Plenty of paddling required to hold your position and find the best waves.  Deeper Channel giving up a few good ones that pitch and run a bit before hitting the inside shallows and close out or die.  Size is waist high + on the better waves but they are shifty and some of the drops have no water.  Sit deep on a longboard and get in early.  At the Groin and towards the boat ramp are miscellaneous waves with mostly lefts to ride.  Sectiony and thigh/waist high.  A few hold up long enough for a few turns.  Super fun for the body surfing enthusiast.

PATCH: Still foggy but I know the Patch likes a S swell.  There were waves here all day yesterday and into the evening and the buoy numbers are still reading good.  This is the spot today so pull out the big board and go get some glide, slide and ride to start your day off right.  Size is unknown and reports will vary but I am willing to bet waist high +.

Daily Surf Report - 6/27/2013

Now full sunshine and warming up to 72F at noon!  S swell starting to pump in the Patch.

Starfish and urchin spines.  Algae, kelp and scallops.  Sea anemones and nudibranchs.  All on display in the fog as the tide bottoms out and goes negative.  There are also a few mysto waves out there in the mist and if you paddle out you will be happily rewarded.  Not quite the best surfing tide but we do have a NW swell combo-ing up with a SW ground swell.  The union is good for surfing and all spots in town should have waves even if you can't see them from the beach.  Morning temp is 59F and balmy/humid.  High pressure system is over the Bay Area and things are going to heat up significantly as we head into July.  Sun should be out - eventually.

CHANNEL: No wind, thick fog and glassy conditions.  Low tide with all sand and Groin wall showing.  There are thigh high beach breaking lefts out front and towards the pole.  Great to body surf and looks to be rideable on the surfboard as well.  The camp groms will no doubt be on it soon.  More water this afternoon and the current swell will satisfy most surf appetites.

PATCH: Too foggy to see outside but there is some whitewater rolling through the inside Snags.  Tide pool exploration now and surf later when the tide fills in and the fog burns off.  S swell will deliver but bring the log for best results.  Updates will follow.

Daily Surf Report - 6/26/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Happy Wednesday to all of you who endeavor adventures upon the salty brine. It's a foggy and somewhat drizzly morning here at the beach but surprisingly not very cold. The temperature is buzzing in at a balmy 60 degrees and there are not any crowds to tangle with for parking.... or surfing....or hiking....
Great day for the SUP (aka Janitor board/custodial equipment) or even do a little body surfing on some of the beach break peelers. Not much in the way of actual surf at the moment... but we all know that could change... or not.

CHANNEL: No wind and it's glassy all around.... the very exposed sand bar. This tide is so low one could almost walk out to the Farallon Islands! There are knee high breach breaking lefts rolling along between the Groin Pole and the Boat Ramp and if one were so inclined to grab a hand plane and some swim fins.... just sayin'. No one here yet but maybe with the tide turn-around?

PATCH: Nope. Not just yet. There could be something happening waaaaaay out there but with this pesky fog it's pretty hard to tell. The rocks at the Patch are exposed more than a flasher in Golden Gate Park on a summer night. Still, a few intrepid souls are suiting up and hoping for the best. One longboard and one Janitor Board getting ready to sail away, sail away, sail away...

Daily Surf Report - 6/25/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

CLOSING EARLY - Call In advance!

I guess you can't have sun some days without rain during others. The day of a thousand tears is here today. I received the sad news that Bolinas has fell into a coma and her vital signs are not looking good. There is a not so sensual south wind hacking our dreams to pieces and a not so fun low tide killing anything that could overcome the wind. Its 58*F this morning with ominous skies. Slight rain is keeping everyone behind their doors and no one is in this turbulent aquatic fluid yet. If there is a wave, the little grommets of surf camp will find it. It's not a summers' day but its still a beautiful one, if you have the kiwis to get wet than I commend you and promote you to Captain.

CHANNEL: Sad and angry. On top of the wind and bottoming out tide there is a racing current sucking out every last bit of rideable wave.
And now, let us have a moment of silence for the departed... RIP Channel.

PATCH: Rocks are blown out and small. No water, no Laundry.
Lets do the math. NO Water + Howling South = Tears.
On the positive side, the beach is empty and the air smells beautiful. Grab a coffee with a buddy and enjoy the weather.

Daily Surf Report - 6/24/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Misty Monday morning. Prepare for large amounts of moisture that are sure to make your eyes urinate. It is 56*f this wild morning with no wind and very calm and glassy conditions. Beautiful day for a long paddle or slow motion run through the drizzle. Not one human being in the water so far. Be the first to make first contact with this beautiful morning ocean.

CHANNEL: There is almost a ripper of a standing wave as all the water runs scared of the channel. Unfortunately that is the only wave out there today. I'm calling it Achilles tendon high with extreme warble. Once the tide flips and heads in, the conditions should dramatically improve. Head down to the lagoon, jump in, and get swept out to sea. Franticly swim to shore, repeat.

PATCH: We need water. It keeps us alive, grows our food, and brings us waves. It seems that someone got the ocean drunk last night, along with the entire town and now, and now no one wants to make an appearance. Shell collectors are cruising but besides that there are no people in sight. Be the first office to hold a conference on the meeting rock.

Daily Surf Report - 6/23/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Ghost town morning lineup as the negative low tide dominates the early hours.  Rub the sleep out of your eyes, get some brekkie and coffee going, fire up and hit the beach in an hour or two.  Overcast morning but winds are light and temp is already 58F.  We won't likely see the sun today but the rain is predicted to hold off until the evening.   Jump in today before conditions deteriorate.

CHANNEL: Rip and tear, thrash and burn.  Low tide has ripped it up and left little water but lots of beach and exposed sandbars.  Let it fill in then shred the late morning before the storm hits and S winds shred the ocean.  Current size is im-measurable but best guess is calf high and solid.  Tide is on the way in but needs a bit of time.  Race the clock to get on it before the crowds.  Bring the big floaty board as well.

PATCH: Plenty of rocks to pick around and not much surf at all.  This spot always needs water and there is currently none.  Actually it is less than zero but coming back.  Little bit of a steep S swell which gives us hope for the later part of the day.

Daliy Surf Report - 6/22/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

The harbor seals are king this morning with about 5 hanging around the groin pole, perv-ing at all the fresh neoprene. It took me 7 years to learn fluent seal but It was well worth it. I have entered their inner circles and learned the secrets of the body surf. My feelings of accomplishment soon left me as I still look like a  kook trying to body surf next to these water dogs. H20 is feeling warmer than usual, and its a beautiful, clear, and crisp morning for all you ocean lovers. Current air temp is 54*F and there are plenty of radical poets and artists cruising the sand. Tide is extremely low and 5 people in the water spreading themselves out like the chunky peanut butter on your morning toast.

CHANNEL: A solid, very bumpy calf high left is breaking in about 3 feet of water. Higher tide should show a dramatic change in the right direction. 4 water bathing surfers out here this morning. Big boards may get a tasty section if they paddle their hearts out. Go join the morning as it wakes up.

PATCH: Knee high rock. The rock patch is looking sadder than ever in the wave department. Nothing breaking at the moment with one Janitorial surfer sweeping the outside rock. On the bright side, there are plenty of ingredients on the walk over for a California roll, so go get your grub on. Higher tide will be the only possibility for surf.

Daily Surf Report - 6/21/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Welcome to SUMMER!  Time to hit the beaches, roller coasters and get your chocolate dipped cone on.  We have a beautiful and sunny morning with no wind and temp is 56F.  No wind now but it has been picking up in the afternoon and blowing unseasonably stiff into the evening.  Now is the best time to surf as things are calm, glassy and clean in the water.  Grab your longboard and come on out.  Also, great day to rent gear and learn to surf.

CHANNEL: Thigh high or better waves to ride with lefts off the Groin bar and even outside on the deeper Channel bar as well.  Small but smooth and enough to get the longboard going down the line. A few rights over on the Sea Drift side are being ridden today.  Tide a bit low now and is coming up from an early morning negative.  Keep on eye on  the Mali-BO rights as they will start working shortly.  An overall nice morning and there are small waves to surf.

PATCH:  A hint, a whiff a slight vapor trail of S swell in the water.  It is small but long period with readings of 1.5' @ 15 secs.  Recent winds may have been knocking it down but it is trying to work in the Patch today and surfers are out in the lineup.  Scattered waves in the thigh high range and logs will get the glide and ride today with some patience and paddling acumen.  Incoming tide will get all the rocks covered so give it a good look then paddle out.

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

International Surf Day 2013 is TODAY.  Come out the the beach and celebrate the sport we all love.  Get in the water with all the groms and gremmies today and ride at least 3 to the beach.  It as a beautiful and sunny morning with no wind and temp is 57F.  Surf is small with potential and the surf camp kids are frothing for the final day surf contest.  See who will be crowned King of the Groms in UN-Mavericks like conditions.

CHANNEL: Knee high and glistening rollers over the Groin bar and the Sea Drift side of the Channel.  Nice and slow waves for your longboarding pleasure.  Tide is coming in and Mali-BO rights have been seen occasionally.  Grab something big and learn to surf today or bring a book and enjoy the weather.

PATCH: Not much but a little.  Trying to work with a few insider rights breaking in shallow water and about knee high in size.  More water will help as will more swell.  Not much in the swell category today but the tide is coming IN.

Daily Surf Report - 6/19/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Good morning kids! It's another wonderful day here at the beach. The sun is out and the temp is a delightful 56 degrees. There is a bit of a shifting breeze out there as well that is mostly off-to-side shore. Nothing to get your undies in a bunch over....yet. The surf is knee high to Papa Smurf (I love when you call me Big Papa) but that isn't deterring the few intrepid dorks out there now from having a bit of salty fun.

CHANNEL: Knee high (at best) section-y crumblers rolling over the middle bar and the Sea Drift side of the Channel. It's looking like a Caltrans work crew out there now (What's orange and sleeps six comfortably?)... about five or six (5-6) guys sitting around waiting for quitting time. Great day for janitor boards, prone paddle boards or air craft carriers.

PATCH: It's really trying. It's a lot like Loch Ness here today as every now and again something rears up, slips along and the disappears back into the brine. Maybe later today, or maybe later in the week.... definitely in the future... no one out as I write this. Shocker!

Daily Surf Report - 6/18/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

ALL of you surfers are on double secret probation! The ocean is extremely disappointed in you and is refusing us service. Its a beautiful day on lake Bo this morning with no wind and calm seas... very very calm seas. Its 56*F this morning and the sun is shinning. Great day to nap on the beach or smooch a spouse. Face it, you threw up on Dean Wormer.

CHANNEL: Looks like the BoBo buoy is calling a pumping .01ft. I'm seeing ankle high rollers going right and left, but with little push and a lot of sectiony sections. No one is out riding but there is possibility for a ride if you bring your biggest board and a positive attitude.

PATCH: All waves have been confiscated! Even the ones we didn't steal! One soul surfer out there looking for a ride. His or her legs may be cold and cramping but his or her soul and mind are in great shape. A couple pelicans are looking for breakfast just off shore and having a way better time than those lazy gulls who stayed home.

Can I have ten thousand marbles please?

Hey Derek. Do you know what's good for shoulder pain? If you go surfing. Radical day this morning with clear skies and crispy, clean conditions. Its not shark week in town but you and your step brother will still have oodles of fun. Current temp is 55*F and no wind is gracing our presence yet. The streets are already bumping with party people who want to get wet. Come out and enjoy this sweet sweet Mon of a day.

SURF CAMP starts today. Soon stoked grommets will flood the streets and learn to shred. Come watch as they spread their wings and morph from rad asexual ankle bitters to rad hash-tagging pre-teens. You won't hear them complaining about being cold.

CHANNEL: We are seeing pieces and parts breaking in the shin to knee cap high range. 10 humans out here this morning paddling their hearts out. Strap some volume to the top of your car and you should get a few. Small rights and lefts working in front and around the pole. Ditch the leash and practice your cross step.

PATCH: Micro anklet size peelers are popping up outside and dying fast. One positive person is sitting solo amongst some seals and a dry rock or two. Lower tide should shut this place down so either wait it out or hurry out. NO excuses for not surfing because I KNOW that Cops doesn't come on until 4:00!

PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Daily Surf Report - 6/16/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

O YA! Absolutely brilliant day in town today, we have no wind this morning and some MICRO WAVES for your logging pleasure. Its a balmy 55*F this morning and I'm calling the surf shin to thigh high. Lots of peeps and homies already in town soaking up the lovin'. Pull your breakfast out of the microwave oven and come ride on all these microwaves.

CHANNEL: These sets are more regularly than Charlie Sheens rehab visits. Lots of small waves rolling in, and everyone seems to be getting waves. Peaks are extremely random and it seems hard to find the right spot to sit. If you get lucky you might get a thigh high roller. You can go right! left! or more frequently, strait. Its not as good as pipe but its enough to get you off the pot and enjoy the day.

PATCH: Nothing to speak of. BUT plenty to talk about with your Dad!!! You thought that I forgot! Happy Fathers day to all dads and father figures. Find your long lost sons and dads and "catch up" at the patch. Ill whisper to you all that there are some ankle high occasional burgers sliding in. Exposed rocks make your 1/4 mile paddle out to surf dangerous. Make breakfast for your Dad then come out for the high tide.

Daily Surf Report - 6/15/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

5:00pm UPDATE:
Siberian Sandstorm Winds whipping sand around .  Mali-BO grinders directly off the wall worth riding.

Ladies and gentlemen start your engines.  It is the 6th Annual Shore to Shore Paddle race from Bolinas to Stinson and all the watercraft are hitting the beach!

Bit of a grizzled morning with overcast and foggy coastal conditions.  Light SW winds but not too bad and the current temp is 54F.  Expecting full sunshine later today and through the weekend.  Small surf conditions with just localized NW windswell and a very small background S in the water.  Just enough wave action to convince yourself to get wet.  Leave the shortboard home.  Bring the log and take a dip.

CHANNEL: Waves like puzzle pieces and thigh high + in size.  Some fit together to make that bigger section.  Some you have to force hoping they will work and fill in the gaps.  Lefts of the Groin bar that have a little potential.  A few rights that will let you tip toe through the Groin wall and have workable sections.  Ride the outgoing rip back out to you appointed lineup spot.  Overall a fair surf morning.  Seadrift has a few rights to ride and deeper in the Channel a rideable left was spotted.  Lots of beach for walks and the paddle race should provide some good spectator sport as well.

PATCH: Gurgling up a wave or two in the thigh high range.  Not liking the outgoing tide and rocks are very much exposed.  Had a little action yesterday afternoon as the tide came back.  Grab your big log or SUP and do battle with the race contestants as the try to be first around the buoy marker.  Keep your eye open for changing conditions and jump on the first wave you see.

Daily Surf Report - 6/14/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

It's the eve of Shomer Shabbos and all is calm in town.  It is sunny with clear blue skies, no wind and a morning temp of 57F.  Grab the family and head on out to the beach before sundown when driving ceases.  Still experiencing just localized NW windswell and a very small background S in the water.  Just enough wave action to convince yourself to get wet.  Leave the shortboard home.  Bring the log and take a dip.

CHANNEL: Still heading to another low tide morning with plenty of beach to walk or run the dog.  Glassy and sunny little lefts spinning off the Groin bar in the knee + size.  Good enough to take a chance and more water will help.  About 8 in the water on logs and SUPs.  Seadrift will activate later as tide fills in so give it a look as well.

PATCH: Trying to work but not quite enough water or energy to break consistently.  Occasional roller in the thigh high range will fold over and break giving you a right to glide on about mid-way out.  Lots of exposed rocks with the draining tide.  Have it solo session style as the line up is empty.  Whatever comes through is all yours for the taking.

Daily Surf Report - 6/13/2013

Now rocking our SUMMER HOURS and open daily from 9am - 6pm.

Beautiful morning in Bolinas.  BO-Beautiful with sunshine, no wind and temp coming in at 57F already.  Low tide morning with not much out there swell wise.  Localized NW windswell and a very small S but not producing EPIC conditions today.  Fisherman's Delight at the beach but take what the ocean gives you and make the most of it.

CHANNEL: Low tide with plenty of beach to walk or run doggy.  Spinning knee high cylinders of joy at the Groin bar heading left and reducing in size as they fire along.  A few surfers on longboards giving it a try.  If nothing else it is a nice beach day.

PATCH: Gurgling along with occasional knee high rollers outside.  Looks possible on a SUP, NUP or great big log.  No one out yet and more tide should help.  Bring a big single-fin and your favorite novel and pass the time at the meeting rock.
