Daily Surf Report - 5/31/2012

8:00pm Update:
After a few victorious rounds of Cornhole - an evening birthday session with Rik and Ginger + DJ and Scott. Mali-Bo rights working. Knee / thight / waist high ??? Who cares when you are surfing with 5 friends. Lots of long rides on the conveyor belt and walks back to the Groin pole.

Happy Birthday to Rik S! May the coming year be filled with joy and many waves.

Overcast morning with hints of sun and light onshore wind. Current temp is 53F and it is mild and quiet in town. Mostly NW windswell with a very small background S in the water. Expected nice weather for the next few days.

Channel: Inside waves on the Groin bar. Consistent and almost waist high. High tide pushing in but looks to be fun lefts are working right now. About 8 in the water on longboards.

Patch: Flat but good for SUPs and kayak and swimmers and those wanting to get on the water and paddle for exercise and sightseeing. No one out here.

Come by and check out the new art around the shop. Local surfer, shop employee, instructor, and artist Blair Tom has installed some sweet surf totems! Come say a prayer for surf and check out Drew's gumball color explosion Pollack-esque fin installation and Urban's new custom planter boxes with sunflowers and a memorial succulent garden!!!

Daily Surf Report - 5/28/2012

Tuesday,

Looking fun-er/ish,
Starting to peel through channel. A handfull of people are getting some fun little waves. The conditions are nice, about 60 degrees, no wind, light haze. I am hoping that the winds will stay down for a while.

Channel: Frequent waist high waves, and a handfull of people are catching some waves. Peeling left just past the groin, and also definetly peeling right through the inside*

Patch: Did not see any ridable waves here this morning.

Come by and check out the new art around the shop. Local surfer, shop employee, instructor, and artist Blair Tom has installed some sweet surf totems! Daily Surf Report - 5/27/2012

Calm and cool with a hint of Shabbos.
Uberglassy morning, compared to the past week of howling winds, this morning greets us like a calm ghost guiding us down to the mystical waves that pass as phantoms in the morning mist, and that is exactly what the waves are today, figments of our imaginations...

Channel: not many waves at the present, perhaps you can surf the outgoing riptide?

Patch: Saw something way, way, way, way out there, a little micro ride for a macro paddle.

Come by and check out the new art around the shop. Local surfer, shop employee, instructor, and artist Blair Tom has installed some sweet surf totems! Daily Surf Report - 5/26/2012

Well, it's Memorial Day Weekend, 52 degrees out and offshore winds...the water is cold, the beach is sandy and the cooler is packed, pop a cold one and slide through the majestic beauty that is shin to waist high grinders. Bring out the fam, should be a beautiful beach day, and hoepfully a little surf.

Pet the sea squirrel and recieve a crystal dredgin' malibo grinder.
Put out the good vibes and get some cool rides.
Be safe this weekend.

Channel: shin to knee, touch your knee to thigh, and make your hips dangle, we had a little surf to mangle. A little bit of left, a little bit of right, the seadrift side could be just right. I think the mid tide zone around noon should be the call, swell is up and once the tide pulls its head out of its a** and covers some sand we should see some radical little spinners putting forth their best impersonations of septic piping, unleashing gnarwhal magic upon the chosen few in the right spot at the right time. I would recommend waiting for the tide to bottom out, then have a gander at it.

Patch: rocky rocky, bulwinkle tinkle, me thinks the flood tide shall better serve thee, witnessed swell lines last nite and this morning did I, perchance the patch will roll again this afternoon...not many waves but one brave soul slayed the dragon o'er yonder and gleamed thy cube on green Junod, a board ny more beautiful than thy majesty's waves.

Come by and check out the new art around the shop. Local surfer, shop employee, instructor, and artist Blair Tom has installed some sweet surf totems! Daily Surf Report - 5/25/2012

Same as it ever was, it is a brisk and windy beautiful morning out here in Bobo. 53 degrees and sunny, hopefully it will warm up soon. Not too much wave activity but hopefully the rising tide will summon some waves.

Channel: shin/knee high, super drained out. One guy way out over at seadrift but a lot of texture and current right now as the tide is about to bottom out. Should improve with the incoming tide.

Patch: Currently offering: rocks, small micro waves. Saw a few teenie tiny rights dribble through, one longboarded braving the mussel slapping reelers.

Daily Surf Report - 5/24/2012

Warm and sunny, with light East winds. Makes for a nice beginning to the day. 56F currently and warmish already.

Tide is bottomed out so will be filling in until mid afternoon. Lots of rocks and sand showing but a few waves from the small south swell as well. A few ducks on the inside shorebreak are scoring tubes while surfers on long boards are catching rights and lefts in the knee high range.

Channel: Knee high on the low tide. Something on the inside at Mali-Bo and Seadrift worth riding. Incoming tide will improve conditions.

Patch: Currently offering: rocks, small micro waves. Sick inside right. Perfect size for the ducks but not enough water for humans at this time.

Daily Surf Report - 5/23/2012

Windy and sunny, In the morning

I guess that means it is going to get windy-er. But it isn't a south wind, it's a sun wind. A north wind, I suppose there is already pressure (I wish I was a meteorologist) It is still favorable surf conditions though, this sun wind is blowing sideshore, almost totally offshore, so if there were waves, it would be sick. Did I mention Nobody is out? This is because the waves are small and the tide is way out.

Channel: Ankle high on the low tide. Maybe a little something on the inside, esp~ for the kiddos

Patch: Currently offering: rocks, no waves.

check back later for updates

Daily Surf Report - 5/22/2012

Tuesday,

Conditions look pretty nice. Didn't see too many waves, but I know they are out there, and will be with the incoming tide. Conditions are sunny, 61 degrees, light winds out of the northwest, and nobody really is on the beach.

Channel: Ankle high on the low tide, 2 big boards just sitting out there.

Patch: Rocks are drying out in the sun, later today with a high tide, it might break.

Will update as tide fills in.

May, Mondays, eclipses, low tides, small waves and new moons. What does it all mean?????
It means you better bring your longboard! If you are coming to Bo.
Sunny, light sideshore wind out of the north, 60 degrees, 3 people out at the channel chasing ankle high waves.

Channel: Ankle high on the low tide, 2 or so SUP's in the water insisting they have it under control.

Patch: Like a rock quarry rock garden out there. All exposed, nothing possible yet.

Will update as tide fills in.

Daily Surf Report - 5/20/2012

Same as it ever was...
Another beautiful sunny morning in BoBo, the seagulls are swooning the trash can delight from the musical parties of yesteryear, perhaps an encore will happen today. We were witness to several canine carvers, shredding the shorebreak this morning, taking bodysurfing back to a feral level with crystalline chambers of aqua marine in the double to triple over paw range and some definite tail wagging juice - - WOOF!

It's a new day and a New Moon...

Channel: Super grande maximum low tide hodad morning, waves rippling and trickling like, like a babbling spring in a sun soaked twilight lit mirage. Three SUPers having a convention on the oustide groin while the log convention has begun with several longboarders, and a couple bodysurfing dogs on the inside. Those things I remember as waves are in the shin, to maybe knee high, if you bend your knees. Don't forget to stretch, you don't want to pull a hammy.

Patch: nada, zip, zilch, nothin, bingo bongo, batman and robin. A lonely SUP is negotiating the rocky reef that is the patch, searching for a wave like Indiana Jones in the temple of doom, Kali Ma...maybe if we have a ritual scarifice today to appease the surf gods on this new moon, a great wave will arise to take us all to the great barrel in the sky...don't drink the kool-aid. No waves currently at this spot.

Summer Time = Handplane Time.

Small south swells will be heading up the coast and there is no better time to start bodysurfing. This is the best way to get closest to the wave curl. Check out the selection of Sk8 Planes in the shop. Re-purposed from broken skateboards. Sealed naturally with linseed oil and beeswax. Individual pyrographic wood art from local Sonoma County artist. Support the DIY spirit and get your summer stoke on!

Daily Surf Report - 5/19/2012

It's a beautiful brisk morning, the sun is rising over hills and I think I saw a naturalist trying to mate or counsel a seagull. No wind to speak of, a toilet drained out low tide, and more rocks and sand than I've seen in a while. All in all..IF...the swell picks up a tad and with the incoming tide we could see some playful loggable surf out there, grab a 10 footer and your closest mythological sea dwelling partner and "TALLY HO!" into the great primordial soup from which we came...
Pop your kickstand it's a New Moon tomorrow.

Channel: Lots of current is discernable from the beach, once the tide pushes happens those little cylinders could be rifling through the groin. Right now only two oysters ominously overpowering the oppulent osscillating organic outside wedges, easily double over sea squirrel and pushing gnarwhal and a half on the sets, 1-2ft grinders for the layperson.

Patch: dude...soooooooooooooooooooooooooo drained out right now, more rocks than waves. Saw some little swell lines, potential once the tide rises. Tandem competition at 12:50, discounted entry fee for matching speedo teams.

Sunny and smooth this morning. 51F with full sunshine and no wind. Still fun little waves today. Size and consistency has picked up and there are about 12 surfers in the water.

Channel: Has come to life with waves on both bars breaking thigh to waist and peeling along to the left for quite a ways. Dont forget about Mali-Bo which has inside rights that are working as well in the knee to thigh size. A fun morning with all longboards out.

Patch: Basically flat with a few knee high rights on the inside. Incoming tide will help here later in the morning. Bring the SUP or big log to ride here.

Small and shapely -

Smoothness on the surface with occassional little peelers. Oh so smooth and glassy but in the knee high range at best. Only 3 people out early so the waves are yours to ride. Light overcast giving way to sunshine and 52F with no wind.

Channel: Mostly knee high waves on the bars. Sweet little lefts but bring the big log. Tide is filling in but not too high today.

Patch: Dropped off to almost nothing. But then a fun one comes through. South swell have lulls then deliver. Only about knee high but rideable and smooth.

59 degrees, no wind, overcast sky.

Channel: knee with occasional waist, 3 people out, tide is coming high.

Patch: fun longboard rides, about waist high and shapely. A small pack of 6 people are sitting out there on top of the normal reef spot.

Daily Surf Report - 5/15/2012

Small and Shreddable,

Rad conditions at the moment, but early morning sunshine and niceness usually means strong afternoon winds, so come get on it before it gets strong sideshore. At the moment there are fun little waves in both spots, and the conditions are quite favorable. Light offshores, 60 degrees, partly cloudy and sunny too! Update************************ 1:30 Pm: the sun is out and it is cooking!

**********UPDATE: 11:11 am ~

The fog is still hanging around the channel. Could barely see the patch, nothing at the patch. The channel is around knee to waist high with 1 handfull of people. No winds really ~~~

I didn't see the fog coming. Just woke up and couldn't see the surf. Very low Vis. There is still some south in the water, so I know there are waves.
*********I will update in a bit when the fog clears. The tide is bottoming out Neggy anyway, Super Neg: like -1.7.

Channel: Probably knee to waist and drained lowtide shape.

Daily Surf Report - 5/7/2012

Yes you can call in sick and go surfing.
Yes there are waves in the channel even though the tide is waaaaaay negative. Yes the weather is nice. No, 2mile is not currently hiring.
About 63 degrees, clear, no wind.

Channel: fun looking waist high, lined up lefts, breaking off the outer channel bar on the super low tide. Not grinding, just peeling clean through the whole channel, good sand.

Patch: With the super negative tide, I can see the patch, for real, the entire reef is showing, kinda cool.

Daily Surf Report - 5/6/2012

Another beautiful May morning here in Bolinas. The wind is calm and the temperature is around 49 degrees. Lots of beach goers getting ready for a day in the sun. As for the surf, there's not too much to speak of, but with the right board, a super log or SUP, there might be some fun waves to slide on. Semi glass, slight texture.

Channel: currently it's a little drained out with a super low negative tide this morning, but still some glassy little sliders coming through. About 10 or 12 longboarders out making a go of it. About shin to knee to maybe thigh high.

Patch: really drained low tide, lots of rocks, and one solo mission man waiting out there for the bomb set. Didn't see anything really happening out there, maybe waves later with the tide push.

Daily Surf Report - 5/5/2012

RIP Adam Yauch
- aka MCA from the groundbreaking hip-hop group the Beastie Boys - died yesterday at age 47 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Musical tribute in the shop today.

Huge early morning moon and now another sunny and beautiful morning in Bolinas with no wind and a current temp of 52F. Small south swell in the water starting to show as tide fills in from a negative low. Another day of small but rideable surf at both spots in town today.

Channel: Low tide with lots of sandbars exposed. Starting to fill in and clean up a bit. Small waves starting to peel off the Channel and Groin bars. Knee / thigh high and smooth lefts. Longboards are the call here. Seadrift mini ramps surfable in the walrus high size. Bottomless rights with no water but they do have enough shape to get the Junod Egg and Vernor Simmons moving all the way to shore. All Sea Squirrels getting barreled here. About 12 surfers in the water spread out.

Patch: SUPs and logs in the Patch with waves in the thigh high size. Rights on the north end of the area and some scattered peaks popping up. Incoming tide will help here.

Summer Time = Simmons Time.

If you haven't seen or tried the Mini-Simmons now is the time. Old and new ideas come together, this displacement hull and almost no rocker has been improved by ending the tail with a double concave and a quad fin setup. The fastest and funnest board I've ever ridden. So buttery and skatey on the turns with speed for days. Works insane in all conditions and ridden ridiculously small. Here is a custom order for patriotic Sonoma Surfer - CT.

RIP Adam Yauch
- aka MCA from the groundbreaking hip-hop group the Beastie Boys - has died today at age 47 after a 3 year battle with cancer.

Sunny and beautiful with light NW winds and a current temp of 52F. New bit of south swell in the water and small wind swell to combo. Rideable surf at both spots in town today.

Channel: Waves peeling off of the Channel and Groin bars this morning. Thigh to waist high and smooth, glassy lefts. Longboards are working best but the Groin bar can get a fish or Simmons going today. About 10 - 12 in the water.

Patch: South swell shows at the Patch. Waves in the thigh to waist high size with rights on the north end of the area. Logs and SUPs reaping the benefits today. Working more inside now but filling tide will add to the mix.

Closing at 3:00pm today.

Misty drizzle, almost rain but not quite. Moisture in the air and on ground. Winds are light and SW. 52 degrees F. A bit textured ocean. Small waves peel through.

Channel: Bars are set and small waves in the thigh high range are working. No one out but you could get wet and get a few. Conditons are OK at the moment and weather expected to pass through today.

Patch: Knee to thigh high-ish on the inside. Peeling for a bit and log-able with a big board.
