Daily Surf Report - 12/31/2011

Last Day - Good Day.

Sunny, clear, NE winds blowing offshore. Cool at 46F but warming.
NW swell remains and still delivering rideable and rippable surf. Has some juice and push today. Little bit of ocean texture but winds are trying to groom it up. Get it while it lasts.

Crowded again with the Channel having about 25 surfers, Seadrift around 10 and the Patch about 10. Dropping tide is improving conditions in the Channel. Still have some decent shorebreak as well - good for the handplane, surf mat or boogie board.

Channel: Consistent and waist to chest high. Both bars working and the rights at Seadrift as well. Fun lefts that hold up and are shortboardable today. Tide swings will cause changes all day. Good beach and surf day with great weather.

Patch: Also has more energy today with waves in the waist high size. The middle is still working best and cleanest and the inside as well. Big logs can grab the way outside waves before they mush out. There is enough water covering most of the inside rocks for longer rides.

Look what Santa just delivered. A 3-pack of Vernor Silver Bullets. Take the wave catching ability of the Mini Simmons and add a high performance shortboard nose to get vertical. Take your surfing to the next level. We have 5.8 / 5.10 / 6.0 in the shop!

Just a reminder to pack your trash!!! PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT. Respect the Beach.

Tides:
High: 4:34 am 5.4'
Low: 11:01 am 2.0'
High: 4:37 pm 3.8'

We are now open daily from 10am - 5pm for our Winter hours from NOVEMBER through APRIL. Come out to rent if you need gear. We have a full selection of suits, boots, boards and SUPs to rent every day and are only 522 steps to the beach.

We just stocked the racks with 15 new boards so come check it out. Hooded wetsuits, 5mm booties and gloves are in stock as well. If your are in need of a new suit or board now is a great time to shop. We have all the gear for your cold water surfing needs.

Daily Surf Report - 12/30/2011

Overcast, misty, fog and humidity. Also NW swell in the water delivering surf to both locations. Still have smooth and glassy ocean conditions. No sun to speak of and probably won't come out. Who cares - there are waves to ride.
54F, no wind - 97% humidity.

Crowds have returned with the Channel having about 20 surfers and the Patch supporting about 10. Dropping tide is improving conditions now. Still have some decent shorebreak as well - good for the handplane, surf mat or boogie board.

Channel: Waist to Chest high on the sets and clean on the deep bar. Getting consistent on the inside with outer sets worth the wait. Tide swings will cause changes all day. Longboards and a few shorter and mid-sized boards in the lineup. Fun stuff.

Patch: Thigh to Waist high and again all over the place. Breaking way outside then burgering out. Reforms in the middle and rolls through, then breaks fairly well on the inside. Nice slopey wave with lots of potential to walk the nose, glide and trim. Still enough water covering most of the rocks. A bit more shape and push today.

Daily Surf Report - 12/29/2011

Hide and seek in the fog. Thick morning blanket has brought us smooth and glassy conditions. Starting to lift and there is a glimmer of sunlight working its way through now. 52F, no wind - foggy with good chance of sunshine later today.

Crowds have thinned a bit with the majority in the Channel. Dropping tide is improving conditions there now. Patch has surfers as well with lots of different peaks to choose from. Decent shorebreak as well - good for the handplane, surf mat or boogie board.

Channel: Waist to Chest high on the sets and clean on the deep bar. Not as consistent as yesterday and tide swings will cause changes all day. Longboards and a few SUPs in the lineup. I bet you could get a smaller board working on the inside if you paddle hard.

Patch: Thigh to Waist high all over the place. Breaking way outside then burgering out. Reforms in the middle and rolls through, then breaks fairly well on the inside. Nice slopey wave with lots of potential to walk the nose, glide and trim. Still enough water covering most of the rocks.

Daily Surf Report - 12/28/2011

Just when you thought things were about to mellow out~
Times like this morning will certainly surprise you.
Both spots are breaking, breaking well.
Excellent conditions, kind of a thick crowd, and set after set is coming through. The channel is seeing chest high waves off the outer bar swinging through to the groin, and unfortunately I saw around 5 people dropping in on the same wave. Stop on by the shop today and pick up our new flyer/handout on surf etiquette, knowledge is more than power, it is also good vibes.

54 degrees, sunny, no wind. Tides will be changing quite a bit, so get it before you miss it.

Channel: Chest high sets coming in, somewhat consistent. Crowdeito.

Patch: Waist high all the time, all over the place, lining up nice through the inside.

Daily Surf Report - 12/27/2011

Xmas Break is still Real ~

The waves are fun and way more crowded than normal times.
Families from Delaware have rented the beach houses and clogged the line up with young protestant college students. The channel currently has about 20 people, and the patch around 10.
That being said, the conditions are amazing, around 52 degrees, no wind, super sunny.

Channel: Chest high sets coming in, somewhat consistent.

Patch: Waist high max, lining up nice through the inside.

Daily Surf Report - 12/24/2011

Different day with same great weather. Big NW swell hitting and delivering good surf in town. Thank you Santa!

Currently 35F with clear and sunny skies. Light offshore winds and predicted temps to reach up to 60F through the weekend. New long period NW swell in the water but morning high tide is starting to soften it up. Still very rideable and will improve as tide heads low. Set your sights on later today through the afternoon as conditions will change for the better. A beautiful winter morning in Bolinas. Last day to shop for Christmas gifts.

Channel: Big NW swell producing solid waves chest to head high and very rippable on the deep bar. High tide still letting the swell in. Good lefts that are shortboardable today. Should get even better as tide swings low. Lots of surfers in the water. It's the holiday season so give a wave and get a wave. Plenty for everyone.

Patch: Inside waves are breaking best with the high tide in the waist high size. Outside lines holding up and hard to get into as they roll over in the deeper water. As tide goes out shape and rideability should improve. High tide covers the rocks so you can get in and ride your log here.

Limited Edition Surf Art posters are available in the shop. Numbered and signed by a Sonoma County surfer/artist/historian. Pick one up for the surfer in your family. Makes a great holiday gift and supports a local artist.

Daily Surf Report - 12/23/2011

Currently 36F with clear and sunny skies. Light offshore winds and predicted temps to reach up to 60F through the weekend. Still have a long period NW swell in the water but morning high tide is swamped it out right now. Has gotten better with receding tide throughout the day. Set your sights on later today through the afternoon as I expect conditions to change for the better. Still a beautiful morning in Bolinas. Oh yeah - only 2 days left to shop for Christmas.

Channel: High tide letting a few soft ones through more on the Stinson side of the Channel. Longer rights and shorter lefts that are mushy and about thigh to waist high on the inside. Slightly rideable on a longboard but expect improvement as the tide heads low.

Patch: Periodic waves here - probably the best shape currently. Breaking on the inside when it happens with waves about thigh high +. High tide covers the rocks so you can get in and ride your log here.

Daily Surf Report - 12/22/2011

I love winter. Today is the Winter Solstice.
Frost covered valleys all perfectly white with thick coated foxes out and about. Sun rising above the hills starting to warm things up. Calm winds and NW swells in the water. You will need the hat and gloves in the morning and the sunscreen on your face. Currently 52F and beautiful.

Peaking high tide has swamped the scene out. Water up to the foot of the bott ramp at this time. But, the tide is changing and change is good. Bolinas tends to like an outgoing tide with swell in the water. Set your sights on later today through the afternoon as I expect conditions to change for the better.

Channel: Big mushy peaks that break left and reform on the inside and create a little Mali-Bo right. Too much water right now and marginally rideable. 2 guys sitting on the middle bar. Abouth thigh to almost waist high.

Patch: Periodic waves here. Lots of tide not helping too much. Breaking on the inside when it happens with waves about knee to thigh high.

Daily Surf Report - 12/21/2011

They Come, They Go
The waves that is. The sets are infrequent, but the ones that do come look kinda fun. Primarily fun over at the patch at the moment, because the channel is too swamped out from the high tide. There's about 4 people out at each spot. Oh! it is really sunny, and warmer than usual at about 55degrees with no wind. Today could be really fun at some point.

Channel: Mushburgers, or crumbledumpers, call them what you like, but they are the biproduct of the high tide. About 4 guys sitting on the middle bar.

Patch: I would just do this, with a giant board. Curling through the inside with lined up little pockets, about knee to waist, surf here and then check around when the tide moves : )

Daily Surf Report - 12/20/2011

It's Hard to Say~
I mean, there is so much water from the high tide, the swell that is out there is like hiding underwater. When the tides have been favorable, the waves have been shreddable. The all too consistent channel sand bar here in Bolinas is just not really breaking at the moment. Good news on this outgoing high tide, is that the patch IS breaking about : knee to waist with fun little shape to it. Less than 5 people in the water total.
Conditions: Very Nice. Light offshore, no clouds, bright sun, about 45 degrees in the shade and warming warming warming~~~~

Channel: Mushburgers, or crumbledumpers, call them what you like, but they are the sad biproduct of the high tide. About 3 guys sitting on the inside bar.

Patch: I would just do this, with a giant board. Curling through the inside with lined up little pockets, about knee to waist, surf here and then check around when the tide moves : )

Daily Surf Report - 12/19/2011

Sunny, warmish, wave action.

I believe the size has dropped a tad (even though it is supposed to build) and the outgoing tide has it a little drained as well. Still many waist to chest high sets coming through the channel. 50 degrees, sunny, no wind.

Channel: Thigh high to chest and breaking on the outer bar through the inside. Starting to grind, but nothing is throwing. About 10 people out.
You could still ride a shortboard, or you could take your longboard out and either really rip, or really get in the way.

Patch: Longboards are gonna love it. Many waist high log waves lining up through the middle reef, peeling to the inside section. Long rights.
About 7 folks out here.

Daily Surf Report - 12/18/2011

Overcast, with snippits of sun rays, glassy waters and swell lines filtering through. Not a sunny beach day...yet...but definitely a surf day, so come out and get wet. Temp around 48 degrees and not as cold as it has been in the water.

Channel: Thigh high to chest/shoulder and breaking on the outer bar and grinding through to the in the inside, looks like fun lefts wedging through. Starting to clean up with tide change. Groin wave starting to churn a little. 25-30 people in the water on longboards, but a fish or shortboard could also work on the punchy ones.

Patch: Knee to waist high but still rideable on a log or SUP and breaking cleanly on the inside and to the right, some even further out. Good place to cruise or paddle today. Roughly 15-17 guys out.

Daily Surf Report - 12/17/2011

Sunny / Mild / Mixed Winds:

Currently 48F and beautifully clear. Red and orange streaked sky and clear all the way to SF. Feels like it will warm up nicely today. Windswelly conditions with textured overnite ocean. Water temp a bit chilly on the toes and fingers today. Overall nice day to be at the beach and there are still waves to ride.

Channel: Thigh high and breaking on the outer bar. A bit jumbled this morning from wind which is currently switching around to offshore or slack. Starting to clean up with tide change. Pieces of waves with the occasional corner to turn on or small face to set your rail. Groin wave starting to churn a little. 6 people in the water on longboards.

Patch: Knee high but still rideable on a log and breaking cleanly on the inside and to the right. Good place to cruise or paddle today.

Sunshine / Frost / Windless:

Currently 41F and beautifully clear. Smooth ocean with fading swell. Still a nice day to be at the beach and a few waves remain to be ridden.

Channel: Thigh high, peeling from the outer bar inward. A little bump on it from the tide change but there are lefts to ride on a longboard. 5 people in the water.

Patch: Knee high but rideable on a log and breaking cleanly on the inside and to the right.

Channel: Thigh high, peeling from the outer bar inwards, spray off the back. Only 2 people in the water.

Daily Surf Report - 12/14/2011

Still Doing It,

As the swell drops and fades, your board should probably get bigger each day. That being said, the conditions are rather amazing and the waves still peeling, although tiny. About 48 degrees, sunny, light offshore winds.

Channel: Thigh high, peeling from the outer bar inwards, about 6 people out.

Patch: ankle to knee high, but actually lining up and breaking well, you could ride this wave.

Daily Surf Report - 12/12/2011

Winter just woke up in Bolinas.

Surf is fun, and frequent. You might even get tired paddling for once out here. Weather is good enough, side/offshore, about 52 degrees, the ground is wet, but there is no more rain. About 10 people out total.
Waist to Shoulder sets. Grinding.

Channel: About 8 people out, consistant lines cranking through from the outside bar, some sets are at shoulder height.

Patch: longboardable for sure, not as consistant as the channel, but still breaking and looks kinda fun about waist high.

Daily Surf Report - 12/11/2011

Aloha

Clear sunny morning withe streaks in the sky and swell still lingering in the water, 47 degrees and glassy as can be...

Plenty of fun and rideable surf in town today. Longboards will work best now with tide filling in and high. Mid-lenghts, eggs, fish, Simmons and shortboards still catching waves but will do better on outgoing tide.

Channel: In the Channel there are lefts and rights that are knee to waist high on the bigger ones. Smooth and breaking along to the inside. High tide mushing it out a bit but still very surfable. Groin has an inside left and high tide is helping Mali-Bo as well. A few chilly duck dives today as well. Tide switch to low will improve conditions. Starting to get a little crowded so make sure to bring your chillest vibes, I stopped counting heads when I got over twenty...so remember, awareness! Know your surroundings.

Patch: Burgers rolling through on the outside and high tide keeps them breaking to the inside where the rocks are covered up. Waves size is thigh to waist and there are currently about 10 longboarders out.

Matuse wetsuit 3-day sale starts today. 25% off on all fullsuits Friday through Sunday (12/9 - 12/11). This year treat yourself to the best wetsuit on the market.
